- A bent lens bayonet mount ring on Sony E-mount can lead to a lens not connecting to a camera, which is a big issue! In this video, I describe my process on how to replace lens mount (a.k.a. lens bayonet) on a broken Sony 70-200 f4 I bought for my full-frame e-mount cameras ( Sony A7iii ). This method is similar for other manufacturers as well.

This is great! I thought I was going to have to pay a fortune to replace my 24-70 GM but this video saved me! Thank you!
I'm happy to know the guide was of support to you! Let me know how your replacement goes. 😎
@@H3Humper It went as smoothly as hoped! It was a bit nervewracking pushing the ribbon connector in to place but all good! Thanks for taking the time to make this video
Thanks, I'd been hesitating about trying to fix my lens but following these instructions it's now done 🙂
I'm happy to know you were able to repair your lens!
Just wanted to say thank you so much for helping me with this guide
My pleasure 🙏 Happy to know the video was helpful in your repair!
Thanks so much for the clear and easy instruction! I bent my own lens and also ordered a replacement bayonet. Here's hoping it works!
Hello Jonny, let me know if you run into any trouble!
Dude, it worked great! The only thing that was different was I didn’t see any conductive tape on my original ring, so I skipped that part. It was the 24-70 f4 so may be because it’s a different lens? Regardless it seems to be working great. Thanks so much! There’s no chance I would have been able to replace without instruction like this!
@@jonnystollfilms9689 perfect!! I am very happy to know the process was successful! Having something work after a repair is an awesome feeling haha. Thank you for sharing the info on your 24-70 not having the conductive tape. I am interested in other possible differences between lenses, as well.
My 100-400GM had the same problem. Thank you man.
My pleasure! It's an unfortunate problem to have, but luckily can be addressed at home in most cases.
Thank you very much for your tutorial
You're very welcome!
Hello many thanks for this great informative and cost avoidance video beacuse you make what seems a rocket problem in something and average user with minimal DIY skills can do.
Are you planing to do a similar one for the Sony 200-600 as besides de electronic gear has an external rubber gasket.?
No clue if can use the already instaled one or if it´s advisable to by a new one. Is it glued or press fit in the bayonet ?Your comments will be highly apreciated. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Hello, and I appreciate your words. I'm happy to help! I have not tried on the 200-600 yet. If you attempt to make the repair, let me know what you discover. Thank you!
do the mounts need to be the same to be replaced?
Thank you
My pleasure 🙏
Hi, I would like to ask if the replacement mount for sony 70-200GM f2.8 and 70-200 f4 is the same?
Hello there, I do not know if the lenses you mentioned have the same replacement part or method. I would imagine they are similar. Have you attempted either of them yet?
Can't find the replacement mount for a 70-200 GM II (version 2) any ideas, is it the same?
Hey there, I'm not 100% sure on the answer to your question. Removing the bayonet is quite simple and then you can compare how it looks to my replacement to see if it looks compatable. Did you happen to figure it out yet?
Having a difficult time putting the ribbon into the connector. Any tips? Thank you for this video
Never mind, got it! Thank you
Happy you got it!
I have the same issue, may I know how to connect it back?
@@ryanchow1995 it was quite tricky, but I eventually was ale to slide it in
@@danzbeard gt it as well, thank you so much!
What should I do if the other end was dented and I cant put the lense cap on anymore?
Are you talking about the lens filter ring on the front of the lens?
Does this work with the 28-70 kit lens?? Do i buy the exact same bayonet?
Check out 'Sony Encompass' online and try to locate your lens in their system. They sell OEM parts and will hopefully show the part number for the bayonet. I am unsure if it is the same exact bayonet or not. It would make sense to use the same mounts and everything, but I don't have experience with your lens model to confirm.
May I ask where you obtained the replacement ring?
Hello Leo, I purchased mine from ebay and it shipped from China. It took several weeks to arrive but was the cheapest option I could find. 🤓
@@H3Humper Thank you!
Do all Sony lenses have same mount ring? I need for my 100-400GM lens.
Hey there, I do not know if they are exactly the same or not. I believe others have successfully replaced GM bayonets with this same methods based on previous viewer's comments. Have you made an attempt on yours yet?
Does this work on the f2.8 version?
I imagine the process would be remarkably similar. Have you happened to try it out on yours yet?
My issue is with the body bayonet is that the same process?
Hello Cory, I imagine the process is quite similar. I haven't personally replaced a body bayonet, so I don't know for certain. Let me know what you discover!
Greetings. I just dropped my lens and sheared off the little screws that hold on the bayonet. Where can I get them?
Hello there, a hobby store or hardware store might have fine enough fasteners. Otherwise, the Sony Encompass website might have those screws.
@@H3Humper Thank you. I'm sad I dropped the damn thing. If I can remove the headless screws and replace the mount it just might work. If not I'll send it in to be repaired
@K bellanger My pleasure 🙏 Equipment damage really is unfortunate... Getting the headless screws out sounds like a bit of a challenge, for sure. Let me know how it goes! Some fine vice grips might be helpful
@@H3Humper I bet those screws where designed to break off in the event of a fall as not to damage the camera
Oh yeah! Good explanation 👍 Have you made your repair?
Website to find the replacement piece>?

Would thos be the same f9r the 2.8f version?
I am not sure. I recommend checking out the Sony Encompass website for your lens to check. Let me know if it works for you!
Link for that mount pls, thanks

Would the Bayonet cause the lens to not autofocus? Thanks in advance
Hey there Robert, if the contacts on the bayonet are not making a good connection with the pins on the camera body, it could result in many issues, such as autofocus problems. Have you tried cleaning your contacts with rubbing alcohol? Is your bayonet bent at all?
@@H3Humper thank you I will try it. I was also wondering is it normal for a Sony 200-600 lens to have a Nikon optical lens?
@@TopFlightTraining Let me know if it resolves your issue 🤓 I can check my 200-600 to see. Where did you find an identifier of the optical lens being a Nikon?
@@H3Humper So on the lens the optical one on the end of the very front it says nikon NC 95MM made in Japan
@Robert Solano interesting 🤔 Mine does not show Nikon. Where did you purchase yours and was it new?
Only issue is that this video does not highlight the rubber seal. Looks like you put it back on without one? Can’t find a video on how to attach the weather sealing.
Hello Ryan, the "G" 70-200mm is not weather-sealed to my understanding, and does not have the rubber gasket. The lens in the video did not have said gasket, which is why it is not shown. Which model lens are you repairing?
@@H3Humper gotcha, thanks for the clarification! Im using the 70-200 2.8 G-master Lens. I finally figured out how to put it back on, simple put, the rubber part only sits really one way and if one side isn’t working flip the rubber part and it should sit much easier.
Great information to share! Thank you for the update. Did the same lens bayonet work for the GM model, or did you order a different bayonet? I'm always happy to know what other lenses this method works on for reference.
Repair company wants $700 for this job. 😂
Oh my word!! That is incredible lol
