What is RUM?
Rum is a distilled alcoholic drink made from sugarcane byproducts, such as molasses, or directly from sugarcane juice, by a process of fermentation and distillation. The distillate, a clear liquid, is then usually aged in oak barrels. - Wikipedia
Most of the world’s rum is produced in the Caribbean and Latin America but its production has spread throughout the world. Rums are produced in various styles.
LIGHT RUMS (also known as white or silver rums) have nearly no color and are lighter in flavour.
AGED RUMS are aged in wooden casks for some period of time which
gives the spirit its signature color and sweeter, richer flavor.
DARK RUMS are aged the longest of any of these types of rum. The extended time it spends in wooden casks gives it a dark color and deep, smoky-sweet flavor.
SPICED RUM is typically aged for the same length of time as black rum but spices and caramel colorings are added to give it a signature sweet spice taste.
CUBA LIBRE
The Cuba Libre is a simple, tasty cocktail steeped with history. The drink was created during the Spanish-American war and the words Cuba Libre translate to 'free Cuba'.
INGREDIENTS
- 60mL White Rum (2 oz)
- Half a lime squeezed
- 120mL Cola (4 oz)
METHOD
1. Squeeze half a lime into a high ball glass
2. Fill the glass with ice
3. Add 60mL of rum
4. Top with cola
PINA COLADA
The Pina Colada is the official cocktail of Puerto Rico and has been for over 35 years! It is also classified as an International Bartenders Association official cocktail and for good reason. Everyone loves a good pina colada especially in the summer months.
INGREDIENTS (***UPDATED***)
- 60mL Light Rum (2 oz)
- 45mL Cream of Coconut (1.5 oz)
- 45mL Fresh Pineapple Juice (1.5 oz)
- 15ml Lime Juice (0.5 oz)
METHOD
1. Combine all ingredients into your blender base
2. Add ¾ cup of crushed ice
3. Blend for 20-30 seconds
4. Pour into a hurricane glass
5. Garnish with a pineapple wedge
HURRICANE
The Hurricane was created in New Orleans back in the 1940s. Two large measures of both white and dark rum is shaken with citrus, passionfruit and grenadine to create a surprisingly smooth drink.
INGREDIENTS
- 60mL White Rum (2 oz)
- 60mL Dark Jamaican Rum (2 oz)
- 30mL Fresh Lime Juice (1 oz)
- 30mL Fresh Orange Juice (1 oz)
- 15mL Passionfruit Puree (½ oz)
- Barspoon of Grenadine
METHOD
1. Combine all the ingredients to your cocktail shaker
2. Shake with ice
3. Strain into a hurricane glass
4. Top with crushed ice
5. Garnish with a slice of orange and cherry
PLANTERS PUNCH
This version of the Planter's Punch is essentially a dark rum Daiquiri with the addition of aromatic bitters served over crushed ice. There are numerous versions of the Planters Punch cocktail but I prefer the simple yet strong recipe that David Embury features in his 1948 book, The Fine Art of Making Drinks.
INGREDIENTS
- 60mL Dark Jamaican Rum (2 oz)
- 30mL Fresh Lemon Juice (1 oz)
- 22.5mL Simple Syrup (¾ oz)
- 2-3 Dashes of Angostura Bitters
METHOD
1. Combine all the ingredients into a high ball glass
2. Fill with crushed ice and stir
3. Garnish with a pineapple wedge, sprig of mint and cherry
FIREMAN'S SOUR
The Fireman’s Sour was created in the early 1900s when grenadine was becoming popular in cocktails and mixed drinks. It was first mentioned in Hugo Ensslin’s Recipe’s for Mixed Drinks in 1917.
INGREDIENTS
- 60mL White Rum (2 oz)
- 30mL Fresh Lime Juice (1 oz)
- 15mL Grenadine (½ oz)
- ½ Egg White
METHOD
1. Combine all the ingredients into your cocktail shaker
2. Dry shake (without ice)
3. Wet shake (with ice)
4. Strain over fresh ice into an old fashioned glass
5. Garnish with a lime wedge

Steve's got the nicest smile on youtube
haha that's true
He’s adorable
Sadly he got the worst focusing camera too :/
And nicest accent!
Agreed!
I'm a 35 year old straight man, and every time Steve looks at the camera and smiles while shaking, I smirk like a teeenage girl who's crush just waved at them!
Better get yourself
checked mate ....straight men just see a guy making lovely cocktails
bruh
🤣🤣🤣 best comment on the internet
Just imagine if you were gay 😂
MI81LO learn how to mix drinks and smile while you are shaking, you we’ll melt every women’s heart.
5:05 he did the grind but did not look at the camera... I feel memed
I like to take a clear solo cup, put 3/4 of an inch of spiced rum on the bottom, half and half some ice & sprite on top. Then meter my straw in the cup to get sips of soda and rum as I want
Here in Brazil we have a classic cocktail called "Bombeirinho" (Little Fireman). Which is Cachaça, lime and grenadine. It doesn't seem like they originated from the same place, but I thought it was interesting the name and ingredients being quite similar.
The step-by-step instructions make it easy for viewers to recreate these drinks at home and enjoy a taste of the tropical paradise. The enthusiasm and expertise of the mixologists really shine through, and their passion for rum cocktails is infectious.
Love to learn a lot from Mr. Steve the Bartender he is so clear in explaining all the ingredients for every cocktails with such a lovely & pleasant smile 🤗
Dude, the fireman's sour is my new favorite drink. Ever.
whole video on one side and THOSE SMILES WHEN YOU SHAKING on otherside win it all!!
Steve's smile is so genuine and happy. Steve, this the first of your videos I've ever seen, but you're such a friendly and welcoming-feeling channel that I have to sub to you. I love experimenting with mixed drinks at home or with my friends. You make great videos, have a wonderful rest of the evening and keep up the outstanding work
Your channel has become one of my favorites! Nice recipes and really helpful for someone wanting to learn 👏🏼
He’s my best bartender to watch. I learned a lot the simple and easy way, all are so awesome cocktails. I Love it. Thanks Steve. Cheers 😁
Such a charming dude. Aussies seem like such chill people. Like friends you havent crossed paths with.
Why thank you Welsh dude! 🙏
Cuba libre and the hurricane would be my favorite rum cocktails.
I’ve learned a lot from your videos, now I am collecting some beverages and started to make or copy some of your mixed cocktail drinks, thank you so much.
I would choose fireman’s and pinacolada ....it’s so nice that you’re giving a commentary of what you are saying as subtitles below all your video..it’s excellent for people from different parts of the world who can’t follow your pronunciation ....I will also suggest that you have a written recipe as a display at the side of your running video ,.....it’s easy for people to make a note of the quantities of ingredients that you are talking...
You have the best channel cause it’s direct to the point and less boring stories.
Lol, thanks mate!
Planter's punch is one of my favourites. I usually make a couple every week. Very tasty. :)
And that victorious bright smiling announcement at the end of each small cocktail... 😃😃😃
Yes! I was looking for rum cocktails for this summer! awesome video as always!
Good call on that fireman sour. I will be having on of those.
One thing I really appreciate is that you use easy to find and nicely priced liquors. The fact that you can make these really nice drinks with standard booze makes me wanna try them more!
Just have to love that smile
I really didnt knew the fireman's sour, and that's really a pleasant surprise, cheers !
Wow the fireman sour looks so delicious 🤤 I loved them all ! A lot of bars also use normal cream inside the pina colada interesting that you don’t need so many ingredients
Your smile as you do the shake is excellent
I'd probably go for the Fireman's Sour. I need more grenadine recipes to go with my go to Scofflaw.
I made the daiquiri from volume 1 and it was so good!
2am in germany and I am enjoying your vids. What a great life. Love your videos, keep it up man
my favorite rum cocktail: Rum and lemonade, I call it sweeet lemonade ya sweeet lemonade
I've made that. Works with either light or dark rum. You get two different flavors. Both good.
Men you are one of the best. I love your videos..so simple!!! Thx
In Brazil we add condensed milk to the Pina Colada for sweetening, it's good!
Ew, a perfectly plant based drink ruined 🤢
I love when u shake It, cheers from México!!
Thanx a lot for the recipes, I've recently started my Bar, so You help me so much.
Thank You wonderful teacher!!
I had never heard about the fireman's sour. I''ll surely try it soon. Thank you!
I just made the Fireman's Sour this afternoon, and it is so good! I'm glad I discovered your channel. You do a great job of making things simple for those of us who are beginners. Plus, I love the variety and creativity that goes into your drinks. Thanks my friend!
Agreed!
Just made the Fireman’s Sour and it was a beauty 👌🏽
Beautiful cocktails...I would totally go after that Fireman sour. Thanks for your tips!
I tried the hurricane with your tutorial. Thank you. Easy and very good !
Great video mate. Just inspired me for this weekend. Can’t believe they are that easy to make. Subscribed!!
Love the videos Steve! From Louisiana so I'll side with the hurricane as my favorite of those.
Malibu and Bacardi with Piña Colada is a perfect combination🥰yumm you can also add Irish Cream that’s how we do it in Puerto Rico.
I like the hurricane... Will definitely be trying that.
Love the hurricane. Thanks for the recipe
Cuba Libre for me, though the hurricane is tempting
Going to the beach for the week tomorrow! Gonna try all of these!! 🤘🏼
Fireman sour and hurricane look amazing
you are the reason i bought a rum the other day in order to try all of these cocktails :P
I like 3rd cocktail!
I'll try another cocktail. Thank you
You’re welcome!
thanks for the description! love U
The Fireman's is basically a daiquiri. Rum, Lime, and a sweetener. I didn't know it had a name but just experimenting I made one by chance about a week ago...sans oeuf... no egg. A Pomegranate Daiquiri. It's quite good. I use Plantation 3 Star.
I made a variation of Rum, Lime and Apricot liqueur recently which has been a hit. Rum, Lime and Cream of Coconut is quite good too. "You put de lime in de coconut..." It's fun and easy to experiment.
Very nice! I’ll definitely be making some out of this collection.
Def definitely going to try two of theses cause we are making drinks for our engagement party.
You are Awesome, you have inspired me to turn make cocktails a hobby.
Steve! Thank you for the good vedio in your channel. I'm a student and I'm happy to learn much from this channel.❤️❤️
Superb. Keep making more.
Firemans Sour looks delicious. Gotta try that one!
My favourite would have to be piña colada. I’m not a big rum fan (causes headaches). Generally when I make my own, I blend the ingredients and add the rum afterwards and stir. It makes it slightly more pungent. 👌🏼
Fireman Sour looks interesting. Gonna give that a go for sure!
Just got myself a bottle of Plantation, great timing :)
Idk why but he reminds me of Mr. Incredible
steve is the most wholesome person on youtube
I love planter’s punch. I use the smugglers cove recipe but I split Plantation OFTD (1oz) and Botran 12 (2oz)
Hi Steve! I go for the Hurricane! Thanks for your video
Great video mate, me an the Mrs been watching loads of your uploads and loving them all..especially the cheeky grins when you shaking them drinks pal lol.. Cheers Wayne (Scotland). 👍😉
Interesting planters punch! At the tiki bar I work at, our planters punch uses a spice based liquor with Demerara syrup! I actually prefer the way you made it because I’m not a huge fan of the 5 spice liquor we use so thank you :)
Love doing a nice Cuba Libre with black rum and Mexican Coke!
That’s looks so yummy! And so do the cocktails.
4 oz. Blackwell rum, 2 packets Strawberry Crush drink mix, ice and 8 oz. water. Nothing else compares. Best of luck to your channel.
Steve you are a good bar teacher 👍🥂
Planters punch and the Fireman's Sour look mighty tasty.
Planter's Punch will be the one for me in this volume but now I'm going to have to try that fireman's sour!
Thank you Steve!
Welcome! What would be your pick of the bunch?
Piña Coloda is my alltime favourite, but I'll have to try Firemans Sour, thanks Steve
What a delicious looking lineup!
Yeah, I'm gonna have to go with all of them!
The Hurricane!!!! Soooo good!!!!
Thank you so much
Thanks for the recipes, bro! I didn't know how to mix water and ice and thanks to you many of my friends think I am a real bartender (of course I always give all the credit to you). Thank you!!
You’re welcome bro! 🙌
Love Pina Coladas so refreshing.
Fireman's Sour would be my fav because of the colour.
I would totally choose the fireman's sour but planters punch also made me curious!
Hurricanes are my absolute favorite drink to make
They all look good; I especially like Pina Colada because I like coconut.
I’d choose all of these 🥰 thank you
You took me back a good 40 yrs ago at the bar with these. We use lime instead of lemon with Cuba Libres. I havent had the fireman's that I know of .. or is it, just can't remember 🙃😄 cheers/thanks
Great video. I only have a bottle of Red-Eye Louis' Rumquilla, so I'll have to try making these with that.
My favorite rum drink is a Strawberry Daiquiri followed by a Lava Flow. Out of the ones you posted... I think the Cuba Libre is my favorite.
The Fireman's Sour looks very good.
That shake was intense
Piña Colada! Thanks for another great video!!
Love the colors lit..
Pinacolada for sure ... All time one of favourites
Delicious hey!!
@@StevetheBartender_ thankyou big man for delicious cocktails...😋
I like this channel. One thing I do, is I use the ice from the shaker, not new ice. Especially with a margarita.
I love rum! Try this. Rum, mix berries juice, soda (lime or orange). You got a Nutcracker.
Enjoyed the video.
Oh I am all for all 5 drinks. They look tasty. Cheers!
Hello Steve, I love your smile when you shake the shaker. I know it's not going to happen but I'd love to hire you for my daughter's upcoming wedding in California. Love your video. Thanks.
The best CZcamsr ever💎💎❤
Cool. I just came here for pinacolada, but now I'm interested in that Fireman's Sour 😄
Fireman sour has my name on it. Awesome cheers mate from Texas. Just saw your channel and subscribed.
