tbh went from iphone 13 to s23 ultra and the only difference I felt is the size, the zoom lenses and the worse video quality
I love the fingerprint but I was way too used to faceid with apple pay, that aside.. they're truly some of the phones of all time.

As an owner of the S23 Ultra, I can agree as the best phone of the year, but also think the iPhone 15 Pro Max is also phone of the year. Here in the UK, I see lots of iPhones, plenty of Samsung phones, some Google Pixels, the odd Honor and other Chinese phones, but I cannot remember seeing a Sony phone out in the wild!

Technically what Arun awards doesn't reflect the popularity of the phone. It's just technicality on Arun usage. It may not have good sense in a way the winning phones, but in reality, the award is subjective.

Only saw my first Zenfone out in public yesterday. Never saw a Sony.

I have Motorola Edge Plus and they have come a long way plus the support for updates and price makes it a winner.
There should have been a category for rugged phones.
Some of use work outside in the elements and I’ve had phones that shut off below 32 Deg F.
No way I would take an iPhone or Samsung out in the dirt.
I gave the awards show a dumbs down. Because how the pixel 8 pro swept the market off its feet. But didn't at least get the most improvement award. The Pixel 8 Pro was the highest praised phone of the year. It does way more than Samsung and Apple. Imma just wait for MKBHD because his was giving im an apple fan boy vibes

Yes but only if you don't mind a flatter screen, a slightly lower zoom range, and if you're outside of the US then possibly an exynos processor

Preach Dayo! There's a lot of praise for the OnePlus Open. I bought the OnePlus Open, but ended up returning it... I got scared by the software experience with OnePlus before. I constantly hear "reviewers" saying that this is a great phone, well the software is okay, or the software is a bit buggy, but overall great!... I think people overlook that normal people need to depend on these phones daily, not swap out every other day, not only use the phone in the evening... but daily.
Appreciate you and your channel... keep up the great work, and at 78k subs... its crazy that nobody is sponsoring your vids yet!

I'm glad you said that about the pixel, I fell for the hype and got the pixel 7 and was disappointed so much so I sold it and got the oppo N 2 flip, better camera better battery and definitely the best phone iv had.
I had the Sony Xperia III... I like the phone, but the camera was way too advanced for me to even use it to its potential
Theres only one reason that keeps me from gettingthe mark v instead of the s23...
to answer your question - live in Australia and I've never seen a Sony phone in someone's hand. I would say it's around 60-70% iPhones, around 30% Galaxies, and the rest are other Androids like Pixels or Oppos. Sony's headphones are pretty popular tho, those XM4/XM5's are quite trendy

Its the only flagship in india under 800$, and the only one to have a QHD+ resolution.. QHD+ is super important to me coz i color grade on my phone.
If you don't trust google with bugs, then don't worry.. i can even go to a local shop mear me and buy a used pixel for 500$. I've thoroughly tested it.
I am also as shocked as you, on the Sony phones, either they are the most underrated ones or Mrwhoistheboss just got paid by them

I'm sorry for my over exaggerated comment but... that is a midrange phone with horrible specs, 60hz display and a sd695 that is so weak for the price. I pick based on flagship phones with flagship specs that worked hard to have good battery life. Now that I'm thinking about it. I think the Xperia 5 mark 5 needs another award to replace the 10 mark 5.
Imagine that the s23 ultra was released since February and no phone could be it at its game till the end of the year...

For me the best phone of the years ( not year) is Samsung Galaxy Zflip3, right now I own Zflip4, but I think it was just an incremental upgrade. ZFlip3 felt better in a hand and was simply GOOD however my sister and niece own this phones and in both phones displays cracked after 6 months and they said that insurance company told them that for these phones it's usual. On the other side I have Zflip4 since a year my display didn't cracked BUT and it's a BIG BUT my phone DIDN'T OPEN COMPLETELY FLAT !!! It's not a big issue but STILL. I hope my zflip4 will survive 3 more years then I will buy zflip7 which be much more reliable

It's in the context of a year not several years. It's best smartphone of the year, not decade. Anyone would want their phone to last well over a year. Only phones that came out this year are what we are referring to.

Problem with S23 is it's very slow processor compared to the iPhone, and it's antiquated cameras (other than for fake moon photos, of course).

Every once in a while you see the people using Motorola and OnePlus but yeah basically Samsung and Apple, occasionally a pixel. Ironically average consumers know more about Huawei ever since they left the US market, but not for the right reasons😂

Sony has everything I want. It has the SD card slot. It has a headphone jack. It has a 4K 120 HZ screen and the cameras are good too and it got the best manual mode in the world.. auto mode on the Xperia 1V is good too..
Front facing speakers and it don't have a front facing camera intruding on the display. I believe thay are the only phone that don't have a camera punch hole in their display and its the worst thing ever to have a camera in a display. When OnePlus came out with the pop-up camera that was like the best thing ever happened. I can't stand cameras in the display.. But anyway, Sony Xperia 1 V I wish it had desktop mode and more software updates and security update at least 5 years. Hopefully they'll do all that with Sony Xperia 1 VI. Yeah I had the Samsung Ultra 22. Love it I think I pulled that s pen out maybe twice the whole time I had it. The s pen is not a deal breaker for me But yeah, Sony most definitely has everything I want and I'm saying this on my Google pixel 8 Pro. my next phone is going to be the Sony Xperia 1 VI.👍🏾

I only buy Motorola phones. I paid around $200.00 for it at Best Buy for my Moto stylus phone about 2 years ago, and it's a fine phone. However I do not live on my phone.

The first and possibly even the second version of one UI on Android 9 and Android 10 was baller, now it's no longer one hand usable. When they launched it wasn't the entire reason of it being called one UI is so you can use the whole user interface with one hand?!

I disagree with the winner of best foldable of the year. I understand why people like the oneplus open, but it’s missing too much polish in my opinion, i’d give the win to the z fold 5. I also completly disagree with best battery phone and best compact phone. I don’t know why the hell he decided to choose Sony, but i’d give the win to the the iPhone 15 Pro Max for best battery phone and to the Zenfone 10 or the Z Flip 5 for best compact phone.

Apple and Samsung will always be at the top. There are a lot of great flagships out there, but Samsung and Apple are still a level ahead of them. I can't imagine any of their competitors overtaking them for the top spot. At least on a consistent basis.

Huawei is the best phone . No doubt about that. If Apple or Samsung were subjected to bans they won't even last for a week but Huawei still makes better phones than apple and Samsung

i had the same reaction when sony won the compact phone award, first off ,i've never heard of it, which is fine, there can be good phones that i haven't heard of, but most of the big creators haven't made a video on the sony 5 V including Arun, which made it hard to judge, but what i know from sony, their camera processing is dog shi (i'm no camera pro) but when the lens is as small as smartphone's is, camera software and processing should be where it should be at, also he didn't give the award to zenphone because it jumped up in price which isn't pleasant to see (still a good phone) but the SONY IS A 1000 dollar phone, unjustifiable imo
also i only knew of sony's EXTREME actual pro (camera) smartphones with actual optical zoom lens that are priced insanely high, nice to know they make more than just those

Had the Z fold 5 and loved that phone but the cameras were terrible! I mean... Oversaturated and SO... SO... Bad low light performance, I now own an Oppo find N3 (Same as One plus open) and the cameras on this phone are WAY and i mean WAY better than my Z fold 5... I don't understand how he thinks the Z fold 5 has better camera 🤔

Huge NDA with the oneplus open. There's something about making an initial hype video for it that a bunch of bigger tech channels got. I'm happy you pointed it out. Good foldable for sure but the Z fold 5 "despite the outside screen being worse" is still better. Oneplus does not have the resources to make comparable software to Samsung.

I feek like MrWhoseTheBoss gave a politically correct answer to appease both crowds. Ive owned both phones and i have to say the S23U was just an overall better phone. Besides, the 14 and 13 Pro Max were better than the S22 and S21 Ultra, so cant win every year.
s23u is objectively the better phone, but i understand why the iphone also got the award, the ecosystem with apple devices is just too strong and convenient, but it's still uneasy to see a tech reviewer have that bias
also the iphone log seems very powerful but i don't think he mentioned that
