God of War Ragnarök is an action-adventure video game developed by Santa Monica Studio and the sequel to 2018's God of War. Based on Norse mythology, the game will be set in ancient Scandinavia and feature series protagonist Kratos and his teenage son Atreus. - Hry
Our 2 week journey is complete! Thank you SO MUCH for watching this monster of a game
1
The ending was a Blast game of the year.
Good gaming
Thanks for making these videos so fast they’ve been great to watch
Thanks Sean, it was a blast
Atreus: “I can’t kill him!”
Kratos: “He’s not mine to kill.”
Freya: “He no longer can harm me…”
Sindri: “Oh for *fuck’s* sake…”
Sindri: fine i’ll do it myself
Sindri: “Fine, i’ll do it myself”.
Seems fitting sindri got his revenge
So does this mean that sindris stronger than thor because he one shot Odin with his hammer
@@Yeti-wh7wt Funny, because the Dwarf that made the Infinity Gauntlet is Sindri with another name.
The scene where he starts crying after looking at the murals just broke me. He has come so far, finally became a God that ppl can rely on and worship. This game is a masterpiece.
I feel like you had to be a fan of the entire series to fully appreciate that and many other scenes. People who started on 2018 definitely won’t feel the full weight of that
I had a few teary moments this playthrough, but that scene hit like a truck.
Yes totally, who was the god who said he would couldn't be worshipped or loved? Was it Zeus?
@@leonjulca I think Odin did in this game.
@@leonjulca It was Odin "Has anyone ever worshipped you? Prayed to you? Can you even imagine that kind of love?"
The reason they mention that Jormungandr looks different during Ragnarok is because it’s the younger version of Jormungandr that Atreus “birthed” in Ironwood.
The Jormungandr you see throughout the first game and the first sections of this game is the older version that was already sent back in time from his fight against Thor.
You could also tell cuz there isn’t all that moss on this version. Looks way more bright in color
Sif hated Atreus because she thought he was there to undermine and kill all of them mercilessly, but when she saw that he didn't want to hurt Thrud and that he wanted her to know the truth as Sif did, she understood him.
I also saw her as mad at him for working with Odin and he killed her sons bc she didn't see his true self, so her switch to being supportive and not mad at him didn't feel off to me. I felt a very understanding vibe off her
@@WomenRQueensNMyFaceIsTheThrome On top of that, I think, like Freyja, Sif saw the bigger picture and that the real problem was Odin. While Atreus and Kratos did kill her sons, it was Odin who deliberately put them there to be killed, as Sif herself implied when she said "He will throw anyone at a problem ... [including] family".
the literally said that she hated atreus for killing her sons, this is just plain wrong
@@FacingVicissitudesWhat made that more clear is that Odin felt no remorse for their deaths, even calling them useless right in front of their father. Odin didn’t give a shit about his family. To him they were just expendable tools in his grand scheme.
@@infebrisin the scene where she tells Thor that "he" killed their sons, she was referring to odin
That ending of the people worshipping him hit so hard
"Has anyone ever worshipped you? Ever prayed to you? Can you even imagine that kind of love?"
I'm glad to find this comment. It was one moment that hit me really hard. Kratos being respected and loved, not only by his peers but by the people of the realms. My guy needs this positivity. He's been called a monster his whole life.
He really became the God of War

I don't think I've cried this much playing any game, let alone a God of War one
oh bro that was too much to handle
I can’t believe a GOW game would made me cry 😂
The only other game that made me cry was Telltale Walking Dead Season 1
l cried as well, dont worry lol
For this scene alone, for making such a HUGE character development on Kratos, this game deserves Game of the Year. Also, you can pet a giant doggo
I'm so happy for him. Everybody deserve a second chance, even the god of war.
man.. when he said "a hole...gets bigger the more you take away from it" made me almost cry, im happy he finally got to know as he got his proper goodbye
i am a person that does not feel sad for damn near anything but i will BUST out laughing at sean in general but that scene made me shed a tear... what a great game man
Its such a simple moment but its possibly the most impactful in this entire franchise
666th like woo hoo also yeah I cry every time I watch that scene
1:26:38 Made realize that Ragnarok probably aimed there because I remember one of the characters saying saying something along the lines of : “He will strike for Asgard’s heart, wherever that is”. The heart of Asgard is probably the cave where Odin killed Ymir.
holy shit, i totally forgot that's where ymir was killed, yeah
Sindri's arc broke my heart. From bumbling germaphobe paranoid mess with a heart of gold to a heartless killer who wears his brother's dried blood on his armor... Even though Brok forgave him, Sindri could never forgive himself.
Maybe sindri will be the next protagonist of God Of War
@@jacobhernandez4494 more like antagonist
@@peeposad9127 sindri following kratos all the way to Egypt? Ngl sounds pretty fun
One thouasandth like exactly LESGO
Of course sindri would blame himself. He had to watch his brother die for the second time and now has to live with the knowledge that he condemned Brok to aimlessly wander with no afterlife for all eternity
In case anyone is wondering, the "path" that Kratos saw in the end in the hidden shrine is a future where people are worshipping and adoring him. He actually becomes the loving kind of God that Odin said he would never be and that's why Kratos was so emotionally stricken. He's only lived his life in fear or being feared
And Faye lied to her people, to Odin, to even Kratos and her son to make sure this future happened. It's why she was so secretive. She destroyed her own sons mural. Talk about defiant. Im not sure if you've played the Vanaheim crater side quests, but it turns out with her defiance, her rage, she was so much more like Kratos than he ever thought, She reprimands him not because she's better than him, but because she USED TO be him. And has come out the other end. Powerful stuff.
For me, that was really the moment Kratos was reedemed. After so much he has done, so many bad things (and i mean BAD, like the innocent people he killed in his quest for revenge), it didn't feel right that he would just get a clean slate and acted like nothing happened. Ragnarok really explored a side of Kratos that we would never have seen in Greece (the closest to this was in Ascension), and this really made me feel like a well deserved redemption
Ok thank you cause I was confused like shii
He no longer was known as the god of war. Instead, he was the god of peace
@@calmkoala4533 same kind of God of War as the real Tyr.
It’s so insane to think of the fact that when Kratos asked Aries to spare his life, Odin’s fate was sealed
Prob not that far back cause after that is when kratos killed the sisters of fate to come back to the living. I’d say kratos’s decision to stab himself at the end of GOW 3 is what sealed Odin’s fate
Fate in Norse is different from fate in Greece. Kratos changed fate the moment he arrived in their world, and he changed fate again when he chose to change as a person, but he wasn't necessarily destined to be there or be relevant at all for that matter, if Baldur had just left him alone fate would have spun as intended
God the story writing was SO good.
Brok's riddle about the hole and how Sindri now has a hole in him because of his loss? And Mimir getting it when they see the funeral? Because the hole in Sindri's heart got bigger the more that got taken away. Spectacular set up and delivery.
Tyr having been Odin the whole time and that's how he knew everything? Brilliant. The hints were so well hidden and Brok calling him out and accepting his death was just gut wrenching.
Them changing their fate by breaking the familiar abuse was also beautiful. Odin's Obsession led him to ruin everything around him to pursue his goal, blind to everything he was causing for his own gain, and Atreus swatting all his excuses aside when he tried to gaslight and deflect onto everyone else and back onto them with 'No, you did this yourself', was so well done. Kudos to the writers and the voice actor for making Odin such a brilliant villain.
And for the final panel, for Kratos alone, to see that he will create (Unity, a new home, etc) instead of destroying, was just wonderful. Kratos gets to break those chains after everyone told him he wasn't worth anything (Much like Odin and abusive parents.)
There was an excellent theme of breaking cycles and abuse here, and Faye choosing to destroy the ending so they could write their own *thinking* they were always following a path was also brilliant. Choosing our future despite everything saying we won't is also a whole part of breaking cycles.
God. What a game. What a Journey with Sean. Thanks for taking us with you!

I think you need to have a look at the story and reassess this point. Tyr being Odin did not make sense and was just there for subversion, why would the incredibly smart Odin slip up like 3 times? Odins obsessions with an unexplained being behind an unexplained realm tear behind an unexplained mask. Ragnarok being 20 mins long without dwarves or the army of the dead (budgeting issues). Thor being a whiny little bitch and Odin getting killed by SINDRI. No scenes reconciling with Sindri after, even though it was his fault Brok didn't get to experience his LIFELONG DREAM. The story was all over the place - Kratos has changed, a wait no he hasn't he mashes Heimdalls head in, ok so will we see scenes of Kratos battling with himself about reverting back to his own ways? No just some dialogue. Asgard being a small village with no explanation because "Odin is humble and good". Why do they want sympathy for ODIN AND THOR, to megalomaniacs and a genocidal racist war machine that gives up and gets battered in 2 fights. No massive fight between Thor and Jorm, just a big hit and poof he's gone. Its like the devs were terrified of making a scene really cool and epic despite that first Thor fight. Why build up 2 massive and terrible characters to then just have them killed in the most lacklustre way possible. Every bad guy nowadays has to have some level of good in them, even Thor, yaknow that guy who killed an entire race because they were a different race, but oh wait! He is trying to be a good dad! Overall - Gameplay 8.5/10, Story a disappointing 6/10. Story was basic "I want to overt my death and find out what happens after it".
@@patricktracey6014 It seems like u are a kid that is love with Marvel and wants everything to end in a good way. Didn't like the game?
Fair enough.
U have no understanding of the fact that there are limitations and the game can't be 100 hours.
Realizing that the 2 billion times they were like “want to explore a bit before ragnarok” was them trying to get you to do it with atreus while you still could
I regretted not listening to them so much 😞
When I 100% it on my second playthrough I did all I could with Atreus before I finished the game, got some unique dialog that you'd usually only get with freya cause you would do this after the end of the story
That's where Manual saves comes in clutch
OH MY GOSH STOP
oh yeah
The fact that Faye betrayed her people to push forward an alternative Ragnarok prophecy, where Kratos not only survives but becomes a God loved and revered by the people, a Rebuilder/Protector rather than a Destroyer/Killer, just goes to show how much she loved him.
After all he did, he could never imagine a future where he was worshipped, but she knew he could become a truly good God in the end.
My brother in christ Faye literally fought tooth and nail to defy Kratos’ fate of dying as nothing more than a destroyer to give him life long enough to be able to redeem and see himself as a God worshipped in love, not fear, and youre gonna say that pisses him off?
I saw it as, she always knew the true fate, but madea fake prophecy in jotunheim so that Kratos and Atreus could moce foreward without fate holding them back. Their true story was always the prophecy, but faye "destroyed" the prophecy by hiding it and replacing it
Can anyone tell me there's gonna be another part after this 😭

it hurts me so much that Sindri is one of the only ones who didn't get a happy ending, he's my favorite character and just seeing him break completely and lash out at everything and everyone makes me actually sad.
Agreed. I hope ther will be some follow up to that...
I truly hope he will be completed in a dlc or future game. This is a really really sad ending for him
you forget about thor, who was killed after changing, and couldnt live a happier life with his family
When he was telling Atreus and Kratos about how everything was taken from him, that was immaculate writing. It's all incredibly sad, but the fact it provokes that feeling PROVES how well-written it all is.
I get where Sindri is coming from too. Throughout the entire game people are talking about how they'd gladly make the ultimate sacrifice to win the war, yet the only one who sacrificed anything was Sindri.
I think one main thing that might have been the case with "Sif suddenly changing her opinion" is that she was actually talking about Odin to Thor. When she was talking about Magi and Modi, she was talking about how Odin didn't care. How Odin threw them at his problems. When Odin refused to arrest Atreus, she attempted to have Thor see that Odin didn't care about protecting them. To try and turn Thor against Odin because Thor never stood up to him (you can even hear her saying that while Atreus was eavesdropping on their conversation). Part of her speech may have been directed at Atreus, but I think most of it was really at Odin and trying to make Thor see him for who he really is.
Right! she was trying to convince Thor to turn against Odin the entire game, Thor just didn't want to hear it and continually blamed others instead.
Apparently, there's a reason why Thor was killed so simply after he sent Jormungandr back in time. Back in the first game, Kratos threw the Leviathan Axe into the lake of the nine to summon Jormungandr, who spit it back at him imbued with Eitr. Eitr is the norse word for Jormungandr's poison. That's why the first cut from Kratos and Thor's battle never healed, and why he continued to be vulnerable during their fight.
Yea
It’s thors main weakness basically his krypotonite
And that’s what killed him in Norse mythology
“Loki will go. Atreus... Atreus remains.” Has made me teary-eyed every time I see the ending. That and Kratos softly crying once he sees that he will be a God that is worshipped and loved.
Thats what got me. This is the true end of Kratos' story, really did redeem himself from his rageful days.
I had to hold back tears
Same
I love that that panel to me at least shows that he's no longer feared as a god but will be loved as a man when he was in Sparta he was the God of War he was feared his name was whispered because he was a Hellion on the battlefield switch to this game he's mellowed out he's not getting into fights out of pure anger or vengeance he's learned he's gone back to being the family man he was prior to the events of God of War 1 before he killed his family he goes from being the feared God of War to the beloved Kratos and I like that that's the character Arc they went with this that he has redeemed himself in the eyes of the people to the point where they don't view him as the man he was but is the man he is
Matter of fact I think Thor and Kratos said it best Thor stated that they were destroyers and that they will never change and asked if Kratos had known what he had done. Kratos said yes I do but what will you do now? we must be better for the sake of our children
I saw some people on reddit calling this line "cringe"
meanwhile, I was crying like a baby.
Kratos is a man of few words and those words were so full of emotion that I couldnt care what other thinks, I just love it.
Kratos’ voice trembling when he tells Atreus “Loki will go. Atreus.. Atreus will remain.” has me literally bawling my eyes out. His character development throughout the entire series is so beautifully presented.
tore my heart apart
It got me when kratos saw the mural of him being worshiped because he finally got what he thought was impossible.
there's added weight with Christopher Judge being a dad in real life.
Same. That damn scene is what brought me to full on tears for half an hour.
I would’ve liked when he was screaming at Thor “MY NAME IS” because he was cut off at that point, if he said Atreus by accident showing that he cares more about his fathers name then one given to him from the giants. Even if not outright said, I think we all know it 😁

Abso-fucking-lutely bro!!!
Hearing this in 3D Surround Sound had me SHOOK to my CORE.
that horn's sound made me feel things i cant discuss here.
The final panel shrine I think can be interpreted in tons of ways but I like to think the most satisfying ending is kratos thanks to his actions went from the Greek god of war
To the Norse god of peace
Which like holy fuck what a journey if that’s what they intended
I agree with that, the god of war side of him destroyed the Greek pantheon, but the god of peace side of him essentially saved the Norse pantheon along with all the realms (besides Asgard ofc) by killing Odin and other evil characters, and thus making him a god that people can worship and love due to his actions, instead of fear
I don’t like calling him the God of Peace, because peace cannot be permanently upheld
I rather like to believe he’s still the God of War, but he’s that for a new pantheon
He’s pretty much the same as Tyr was, and Tyr was still a God of War
Plus…God of Peace sounds so fucking lame, be real here, would you really feel threatened if someone introduced themself as the God of PEACE? Would you feel even reverent? I know I wouldn’t
But a God of War is a lot better, it holds power and impact, and if they’re a god of war like Tyr and Kratos, then they’re worthy of reverence, because despite their position as a war god, they still revere and advocate for peace
Just how I feel though

The riddle Brok gives Mimir during their journey, "what gets bigger the more you take away" had such a big payoff that I sincerely did not expect. I thought that it was just a throwaway line at the time which was supposed to show that Mimir isn't infallible in his intelligence, highlighting that there is still stuff in the world that he doesn't know about. But boy was I wrong. Near the end of the game when Brok is killed by Odin, Sindri rants to Atreus, berating him for taking everything, their skills, their friendship, and their home. And finally for taking away Sindri's family too. This line hits really hard for me, I never really thought of Sindri and Brok as more than side characters, people involved in the story to help the main characters on their quest. That's why I never even considered how much Sindri and Brok gave without receiving much in return. At this time in the story, Mimir tells Atreus to not take the words to heart, dismissing them as words said out of anguish and nothing more. But even after time passes and Sindri gets his revenge, he still feels the same way as he did before. At Brok's funeral, he leaves in anger and despair, still harboring the same resentment towards Kratos and Atreus as before. After Sindri leaves, Mimir finally figures out the answer to that riddle that Brok had posed so long ago. A hole gets bigger the more is taken from it, and that's what Sindri has become. A hole was opened in Sindri's heart the first time Brok died, and it kept getting bigger the more Sindri kept giving up to Atreus and Kratos. And finally, his one comfort and joy in life was taken away too. With this final realization of the answer to Brok's riddle, Mimir finds out he was wrong in more ways than one. Sindri's words may have been said out of grief, but they weren't wrong in any regard. Kratos, Atreus, and Mimir may have viewed Brok and Sindri as family, but they still took more and more away from the blacksmithing pair, finally culminating in the death of one of them. And that's a mistake that can never be taken back.
Damn I never would've thought of it that way, now I'm even more sad
that riddle stuck with me, it was almost identical to a riddle given in the old goosebumps/AYAOTD series (cant remember which), that has also stuck with me even after 25 years or however long because i managed to guess it well before the reveal, similar to how Sean did
For me personally, not a lot of the dialogue is throwaway as it shows bits and pieces of personality, story and lore. But my god was that a great setup from the narrative team from Santa Monica. The leadup to figuring out the riddle, joking and teasing about how it could be a meaningless joke, until it wasn't. It kept getting bigger and bigger until there's nothing you can do to fill the hole Brok was insinuating at. This game is my Game of the Year 100%
I agree. In the first game, Sindri and Brok didn't like each other. Sindri was probably okay with it because he probably didn't want to get attached again. He probably said bad things about Brok because he didn't want to get hurt again. When he brought Brok back to life, he probably realized what he did was wrong, for he had brought Brok back to life out of his own selfish desire to not lose him and not respect his brothers passing. When Sindri started working together with Brok again, he probably thought he wouldn't lose his brother again and that it would be safe for him to become attached to him again. There isn't anything wrong with that. I just think it's hitting him harder now because it's the 2nd time, and this time Brok died to Odin. I think Brok mentioned how he didn't like that Sindri was doing his best work for Odin. Sindri helped create Thors Hammer, which led to a lot of destruction. In summary. Sindri is through a lot more guilt. This is the 2nd time he lost his brother. He doesn't know who to blame except those who helped bring them back together again. This is just my perspective on it. I'm pretty sure it could be wrong in some parts, if not all.
This alone is a really great story, a lesson I take from this would be to have gratitude towards those who provide to you and acknowledge their efforts.
What’s even sadder about Brok’s death is that the director said in an interview that they wanted to make it feel like losing the family dog 😭
It started with Atreus losing his dog, and ended with us losing our dawg

1:45:05 I don’t know if anyone mentioned it yet, but I love this soft, happier cover of Kratos’ theme that plays when he sees himself loved.
it’s crazy to believe that the Giants were praying and worshipping Kratos as their champion and saviour long before he even began his journey to the nine realms.
No, that's not right. The Giants foresaw that Kratos would DIE during Ragnarok, the prophecy with Kratos being loved and worshiped as the new All Father was an alteration made by Faye as she went against her people for his and their son's sakes, if you look closely you can see the original prophecy under the drawing with Kratos dead in Atreus' arms and Thor standing over them. The alteration was made based on how Faye sees the potential in Kratos to be much more and better than just being an extremely angry monster who kills gods.
@@MegamanZXOmegaI believe had Thor not had his change of heart in that last fight. Kratos would’ve died. I feel like it was almost a turntable moment because Thor then filled the role of what kratos would’ve been. But yeah I think kratos would’ve died had he not changed as a character. Hell he even showed heimdall mercy but heimdall wanted none of it. Overall this story I think is more complex than what’s really being displayed on the surface of the game.

It's Kratos dead in Atreus's arms, not Odin. This is a confirmed fact and was the original prophecy until they changed their fate by trying to redeem Thor instead of killing him, which allowed Odin to take Kratos place in Atreus's arms dead with Kratos taking Thor's place and standing over them. The Giants foresaw Kratos dying during Ragnarok, Gryla was even taunting Atreus about it, so no matter what anyone tries to say, it's without a doubt Kratos dead in his son's arms in the prophecy, end of story.

I feel like you misunderstood the scene where Sif talked to Thor and Thor went after Atreus. Sif was trying to get through to Thor about how Odin was to blame for all of the family loss. She was trying to convince him to turn on Odin. But Thor took it the wrong way and turned on Atreus instead. It makes sense when she talked her daughter into turning against Odin. She was trying to convince Thor to do the same thing the entire game
Playing this game as a Dad of a young child hits different........this was a truly emotional rollecoaster......loved every seconds of it
The ending with the shrine that has kratos being worshipped hits so hard. It's like Faye telling him that he was not the monster he thought he was, and that he wasn't a destroyer to people but a savior from their suffering. She showed him that he was not a monster, but a true god.
I feel like if they ever bring back Kratos in any future game, it would just be an interaction and a cutscene. Atreus would hug him and learn that Kratos is now kind of the new all-father for everyone. That's just me imagining after seeing the part of the shrine where he is being praised by many.
@@thesmarticus4241 I agree he will be the new "All-Father" however I feel more that you will see him killing gods again. Not out of rage anymore, but it is now because he has to kill them to defend the people that depend on him.
I completely agree with you, and this scene hits even harder for me since Odin in one of the parts said, "Has anyone ever worshipped you," and Faye has seen a future where people worshipped him. It's absolutely beautiful.
@@codyglenn7231 that would actually be interesting, something like gods from other worlds seek him out to kill him because he is known as the god killer, it would be a good excuse to bring kratos to another new mythology
@@RustyHammerPlaysGames Right, that would make sense as the name of the series is God of War, meaning Kratos, not God of Trickery and Mischief, meaning Atreus/Loki
It occurs to me only now that each of his weapons represents a part of his family. The chaos blades represent himself and his past, his axe represents his wife and the promises he made, and his spear represents his son, and the lengths that he will go to protect him. This game is honestly poetic in every part, its so good.
*takes big sip out of story drink*
Goddamn that’s good storytelling
his people are known for poetry after all :"))
Oh god your right his weapons are the representation of his families..... don't say any Dom meme's rather its both poetic and a shown of his growth. This is the best GOW series that shows even a Monster can be a God.
I feel like the spear is for representing the family he's found in the Nine realms themselves, Brok (RIP Brother), Sindri, Mimir, Freya. It does seem appropriate that it's made of Aesir jewelry originally made by Brok and Sindri.
His skin for the past mistakes and present mistakes that he will make
I loved every part of this game. I loved trapping Odin in the ball cause it meant even in death he didn't get to find out what happens next, but then Sindri came in and got his revenge.
I genuinely miss these series on Jack’s channel. The whole process, the gameplay and commentary are just top tier. I’ve never cried over a video game until seeing this the first time, now on my second watch it still hits home.
"Hole..."
I cried at a few different spots during this episode, but it was this single word that broke me. Mimir never got to tell Brok the answer to the riddle.
In a way, I think Brok would prefer it that way. He stumped the world's smartest man for the rest of his life.
It also fit thematically....
Shattered. But nut pr Bruk Brok won
I had to pause the video for five minutes to sit and sob
Not only did he not get to tell Brok, but the answer perfectly describes Sindri in the moment Mimir figures it out. It took Brok dying for Mimir to figure it out. Got the tears flowing for me
Kratos finally seeing people praying to him and breaking down made me cry. Zeus told him he would never be worshipped never be loved, and now he finally is

Kratos: Atreus! Is that a horse?!
Loki: *YES, AND WE'RE IN LOVE!*
The ending scene made me cry. "Loki will go... Atreus remains" that was so much. I cried.
that’s what also made me finally have tears drop. the pain in his voice i just am so sad over this fictional dad
im glad im not the only one, cried through the ending and the credits LMAO still crying
That scene made me tear up but I held. Then they kept hitting with the feels and I cried. Brok's friends talking about him, Kratos calling him a friend, Sindri showing up to light the arrow at his funeral, it just kept coming.
It is heartbreaking when Mimir finally figures out what the answer to the riddle is because he saw what Sindri was feeling, that made me cry
I found this to be a beautiful form of story telling it really pulled at my heart strings
I predicted it
I have a theory that Mimir always knew the answer, but never said anything to make Brok feel better about himself.
@@SamHGA he tells kratos that he was frustrated at the riddle,he really couldn’t figure it out
Yeah
At the end I started crying and then as I was getting myself together, the panel reveal just made me start ugly crying. My husband comes down stairs and was like, "Are you ok?"
I just look at him heaving and sniveling, "IT WAS SO GOOD! THIS WAS SO GOOD!"
I still get choked up and teary eyed every time I see this ending.
Love that it goes full circle in the end. The journey started with a funeral and ended with one.
Seeing them hug and Kratos crying at the panel of him depicted as a God that everyone loves had me absolutely wailing. One of the greatest endings I've ever seen in a long time.
I know it’s very sad as well, and I think it’s describes that Kratos is essentially the new all father and is loved for all he has done.

So sad it’s ending now.
@@benjaminramsey498 what are you talking about?
I think the problem with Sif is that during the scene where she makes Thor try to kill Atreus, she's actually trying to convince him to go against his father, and since Atreus was being kind of his new friend, Thor with his big dumb brain tried to kill him first to stop Odin from completing the mask quest
I agree, Sif knew that Odin was an abusive asshole who had ruined her and Thor's family for years, and it sounded like she had tried multiple times to get Thor to go against his father. So when Atreus comes along, being Odin's new friend, she is immediately against him, and against him befriending her daughter, especially with the history between her family, Atreus and Kratos, and the Giants. But she's not against Atreus specifically beyond past grudges and him following Odin's orders, and you can see even when Atreus tries to talk to her alone about Thrud, that she knows what he says is true, she just doesn't want to admit it to him.
It makes complete sense for her to side with Atreus in the end, the issue is simply that we never got the time to see the where and when that decision took place, like we did with Thor at the end of Kratos' fight with him, and I blame there just not being enough time during the back end of the story arc for that to take place. There was simply too much happening to be able to take time to check in on someone who had really only been a minor character we mostly heard more than we saw through Atreus listening through the bedroom door, and so her convincing Thrud that Odin needs to be stopped feels sudden and out of place.
I was thinking Sif and Thor were both mad at Odin but since they couldn't do anything about him they took it out on Atreus.
Exactly what I was thinking too. When he turned on Atreus, I was like "You big thunder lummox, she meant Odin!"
I agree
So I finally got around to actually watching this. Holy hell this was a emotional roller coaster. The amount of times I cried during this episode was insane. This entire play through was truly amazing and every single person who was involved in making this game should take a bow because GOD DAMN. Thank you Sean for playing this game and taking us on this truly epic journey with you. 💚
I'm gonna try to keep this short.
In '22 I was kicked out of my house, my daughter won't talk to me, and my mom died in July. I watched this playthrough a year into single life as a way to do something I enjoyed with my family before getting kicked out. I love what you bring to the gameplay and especially pointing out developmental achievements worth noting that we amateurs would never notice alone. The issues of loss, dad/boy struggle, and the connection to animals absolutely caused me to bawl my eyes out on no fewer than 4 episodes, and it was all therapeutic. Thank you Sean. This was a fantastic game and joy to watch you play it.
The last part with Kratos seeing the shrine made me cry. Remember when Odin told him that he was a God whom no one worshiped because he brought nothing but chaos? Seeing that shrine; people worshiping him as the God of Peace gave him meaning. This sht is beautiful, man.
+ Kratos was suicidal almost all his life. Glad he found something to live for and turned his life around
Exactly what I thought when I saw that moment
I cried so hard
God loves you
The last board mural kills me every time. Kratos seeing himself not as a monster, but being worthy to be worshiped as a god has to be one of the most heartwarming things in any video game. 1:44:46
Especially after being told he was an unworthy god because no one would pray to him
@@GentlemenFox541 Odin noted in particular that Kratos could not understand being loved enough by people to be worshipped and now he will experience that while Odin will always be remembered as a monster who lost everything due to his choices and depraved nature.
I can`t remember last time i cried so much from a game . Brok`s death , Thor`s death , Sindri`s change of characther , the wolf that died in the beginning , Kratos and Loki sleeping together the day before the final war , it`s such a masterpiece of a game . I think what shocked me the most was Brok`s confrontation towards Tyr and it turned out to be Odin all this time and sadly it ended up being the end of Brok
Fenrir
Why call him loki
I'm 2 months late, because this series made me discover the God of War franchise and I wanted to start watching it from the 2018 game.
Now that it's over, I can say with full confidence that this was an amazing journey and certainly one of the best games I have ever seen.
Thank you Jack for sharing your playthrough with us :D
My two cents why Sif seems like she switched up so quickly: she never really hated Atreus she loathed Odin but because Atreus was helping him and had special privileges/treatment - something Sifs’ own husband could only ever dream of - by extension she hated Atreus. But on the the battlefield, seeing how Atreus was resolved to fight against Odin, save the innocent and his refusal to fight Thrud while still considering her a friend, Sif understands that Loki isn’t deserving of the scorn and accepts to be allies instead.
Plus, in Niflheim, it seemed like Sif was trying to get Thor to turn on Odin, not Atreus, but Thor's blind loyalty twisted her words
That is exactly how it was intended. The only one who ever changed their stance in the matter over the game was Thrud and Thor, with both of them realizing they were deceived. Everyone else in their family either stayed loyal to Odin, or always hated Odin and anyone who aligned with him.
@@d34dstruck13 Misdirection of anger. A common occurrence amongst dysfunctional individuals, and a common story amongst those who find themselves close to suffering alcoholics. Sif in that scene is absolutely trying to get Thor to shake loose from Odin's manipulation - to get him to see that Odin is a bad influence on him, and that Odin got his sons killed. Like sure, Atreus and Kratos delivered the killing blows, but Odin was the one to put them in that position in the first place.
And Thor *knows it*. Thor drinks because there is a huge problem in his life that hasn't been solved, that he wants to solve - a problem that kills his sons and splinters his family and humiliates him regularly. In those moments of awareness, nothing is more important to him than his family and he would give anything to protect them, to solve his problems and better his life and their life. But he's too crushed under the weight of Odin's thumb and bowed under Odin's manipulation to solve the actual problem.
So where will all this frustration go? In that scene, it was directed at the next best thing: Atreus. A child who he doesn't actually blame for his son's deaths, nor for whom he holds any real anger, but finds the slivers of excuses that allow him to hate anyways.
Its only a glimpse into the daily lives of some of the people with broken lives who crawled into a bottle to find solace. And its scary.
when i saw that cutscene i didnt for a moment think she was talking about Atreus, she was talking about odin, then Thor went nuts on Atreus instead i thought he looked fucking stupid
Yeah. She knew that they killed the sons of hers out of the fact that sooner or later they would try to kill them. She loves her sons but knew atreus was just trying to get by. Plus modi said he raped his mom and after recovery, he was just gonna try to kill him afterward.
The ending mural is truly an incredibly way to cap off the story of Kratos. Showing his journey from being an unforgivable killing machine, to someone who is worthy of giving and receiving love. Cory Barlog and the amazing team at Santa Monica really blew it out of the park with this redirection of the series and whether they leave it here or decide to take it other places, I think we can all agree this was another masterpiece.
kratos remissed that gods live far too long.
yet if that long life is used right... you have time to become better than you were before.
It is the future not present. Kratos story not over yet
i hope kratos's and Atreus's stories are not over
theres gonna be more games
Honestly, as much as I prefer the og trilogy, I can't deny that this was a great parallel to Kratos' original journey.
His slow descent into madness and his rising guilt up until the end of 3, followed up by him ending his story repenting for destroying a realm by saving another is great.
Seeing jacks eyes tear up everytime Kratos and Atreus have a father-son moment completely breaks my heart. I've lost my father too. I miss those heart-to-heart moment's soo much! I was his little girl and he was my idol. I feel for you so much Jack. I know you lost your father not long ago. It's been 19 years since I lost mine and it never really heals. You just learn to live with the gaping hole in your chest. And in like a week or two, we're having a baby. A little boy. And I will give him everything I know my father would have given him. ❤
This man NEEDS to record and play the original God of Wars, i will pay money to watch him do it
Kratos telling Atreus a bedtime story made me cry. He's such a good dad, despite his tough shell. He's learned how to be gentle when it matters.
i’m pretty sure it was going to be based around kratos calling for ares back when he gave himself up to him
I noticed kratos only told the part where the guy was ready to die and saved the part where he no longer wished to die until if/after they had won ragnarok
When he told the story he was like stopping little bit. I tearing me up. So much burden.
At 2:01:20 Trey added three extra credits for Sean, Robin, and himself. Absolutely hilarious.

In one of Odin's conversations with Kratos, he tells him he's never known the love and admiration of mortals, what it really means to be a god. I ADORE that the last prophecy painting shows people bowing and presenting offerings to Kratos, as he's destined to take that role and has earned that respect and worship. Such a beautiful touch.
It is so beautiful
Oh man, I didn't even think about it like that. When Kratos tells Atreus not to hold onto anything Odin said to him, you realize that there isn't anyone to tell Kratos the same.
He doesn't have to be anyone's monster anymore
@@ewwpoorpeople5684 I notice how before Odin leaves, he notes that Kratos shouldn't be surprised that his son is in no hurry to return to him and when Mimir said not to listen to him because he is trying to get in his head, Kratos has no reply. Likewise, when Mimir stated that Kratos rattled him as much as Odin rattled him, Kratos was again silent. The Norns vision had shown him his worst fear where Atreus followed Odin willingly and despised him and during it Odin was mocking Kratos for not acknowledging his son and seeing him as he wanted to be seen. So, it seems to me that the comments where Odin is attacking his relationship to his son are the ones that end up sticking to him.
Three against one, huh?
I think what’s so cool about the ending mural is that it explains how kratos didn’t die in a subtle way. The reason kratos didn’t die is because Faye saw that path and instead literally created the path of the first game. So Instead of kratos and atreus following fate they followed her.
Agriboda did say that she defied her people that's probably what it means by destroying the Yotenhilm shrine and a couple of other changes to their otherwise fate such as being forced out of the protective barrier probably earlier than anticipated because Faye made them cut down that tree all of it culminating to this game where the buds of those choices bore fruit and changed the fates of both Kratos and atreus unfortunately that meant she had to sacrifice Brock assuming she saw everything
No prophecy was correct but it was odin not kratos. The drawing in the shrine showing kratos dead in the hands of atreus and a snake thing coming out of his mouth was actually odin and it was his soul that came out of the mouth
@@Vazel I’m seeing this everywhere and it doesn’t make sense. That’d be like me telling you tomorrow your friend, John Smithson will be hit by a car and instead the car hits Smith Johnson. It was obviously an incorrect prediction/ prophecy. The person in the mural was always intended to be Kratos; he has the tattoo; it doesn’t matter how much the final scene with Odin in his arms was reminiscent; the prophecy was wrong 🤷♂️
@@darknight991 Well if u think about it, Odin also has tatoos. They are not as big or coloured red but still they are tatoos so maybe they got the prophecy somewhat right but that was the part they definitely made a mistake somehow.
@@darknight991 I don't know if this makes sense or anything, but Angrboda said that prophecies don't change as in the events happen but details can change, thats kinda what happened with Kratos dying by Thors hand (he kills and then reanimates Kratos when they fight for the first time), Surtr becomes Ragnarok on his own instead of combining with Sinmara (it wasn't how prophecy described it but it happened), I am not sure about the Jotunheim mural, for me its not just reminiscent, it is exactly the same as shown in the mural except instead of Kratos it was Odin, I suppose you could drag it down to other examples even though it is much bigger of a change than any other, who knows honestly, thats how I like to interpret it anyway
i understand people not liking the side quests and long filler fights but they are still so cool to watch so worth sitting through the whole of these long videos, thanks for keeping them in
I normally watch Jack play games AFTER I do, so I could see if his reactions and thought process behind the makings of games are the same as mine. This is the first game/series I’ve watched where I knew nothing about and I wasn’t internally getting frustrated cause he missed something or forgot some details or whatever, I was just happy to be along for the ride and I trusted Jack behind the wheel throughout the whole time.
So thank you Jack ❤
“the culmination of love is grief, and yet we love despite the inevitable” this game is filled with a lot of wisdom
right? after faye said that line i said "she's so wise."
I love the fade to black into credits. The series has technically been one entire cut in terms of camera, from when you fade from black to the start in 2018, to the end of Kratos's story, to the fade to black after the funeral. It really solidifies that its done. Kratos has no more to do, and if we see more from God of War its gonna be with Atreus. Absolute masterpiece of a series
I only hope Atreus sends little postcards or gifts from the places he goes like "Greetings from Egypt, Father!" also I think it would be interesting if the horn heard with Jörmungandr was the sound of the Gjallarhorn
Well atreaus didn't go around the world. He just went with agraboda back to jötunhiem (or however it's spelt) bc he's always wanted to learn what his roots were and he wanted to help bring the giants back
When Mimir says a whole and completes the riddle I cried because now it has a double meaning. Not only is it an answer to the riddle but now it’s how you would describe Sindri, because they kept taking away from him and left a whole in is heart. The storytelling in this game is absolutely phenomenal!!!!!

it also just is such a brok thing to do. mimir and kratos are guessing really abstract things like "nothing" and something else mimir suggested that i forgetand the real answer is just simply "a hole" to me thats just such a brok thing to do
Finishing the riddle broke me, I immediately noticed the double meaning and fell apart 🥺
The fact Faye paved the way for him to become the kind of god he was always meant to be at the cost of her own life.
A lot of people misunderstand Thor's line too, about this feeling familiar.
Faye/Laufey was a warrior too, and that was her axe. She probably battled Thor before, meaning he probably remembers the axe.
It's not about time travel or prophecy at all. All Faye wanted was for everything and everyone to be better.
And that is exactly what Kratos chooses to do as well. Be better.
The writing is so amazing, but eveyone keeps being blinded by theories.
@@watertommyz faye actually fought thor and she was described as female kratos with an axe and even freya tells kratos that she met faye
@@watertommyz you're partially correct. Thor says "this feels familiar" because of the frozen lightning bolt. Because when faye used to be an angry warrior, she and thor created a similar bolt in vanaheim
I really hope the next game has Kratos start off fully as a paragon hero type or at least trying his very best to be. Like his conflict would be him actively trying to make the mortals lives better rather than reluctantly getting dragged into saving them
Greek Kratos was a vengeful monster god, Norse kratos for the most part is an apathetic regretful self loathing god and in the future he can finally be the just, competent and humble god that all mortals want their gods to be, the full superman archetype package with a kind friendly face, white beard and colorful skin as he finally forgives himself for his wife and daughter's deaths
53:20 After watching Sif's cutscenes again, Sif never wanted Atreus dead. She didn't push Thor to kill him either. She said that Odin is ruining their lives and sending their sons to die. But the dumbass Thor tried to kill Atreus instead of standing up to Odin.
She said "He threw them like brittle knives to a mountain face" instead of fighting the one who threw the knifes, Thor tried to fight the mountain.

It's good that the ashes never leave him. Kratos got forgiveness he never asked for; but he will never forget. Even if amnesia was offered him.
It's definitely going to happen. I think he and Atreus deciding their own fates is what broke the curse. I can already see Atreus coming back to discover his father's ashen skin is gone, and maybe with Freya because I can see it despite what happened with Baldur.

I cried so much playing this game. Especially at the end when Atreus leaves and at Brok's funeral. I genuinely couldn't stop crying for about half an hour afterwards. Also that final line from Mimir where he figures out the riddle was genius and so emotional for a final send off for the story of the game. Having Brok's death and Sindri's heartbreak set up so subtly earlier on with a riddle and Brok saying you aren't gonna get the answer out of him easily was incredible. Genuinely one of the best games I have ever played and watching your series after playing it was a joy, seeing your reactions to scenes like Heimdall's death, Brok's death and the spark of the world was great. ngl I don't blame Sindri for having such a harsh reaction every time he sees Kratos after Brok's death - Kratos is literally decked out head to toe in armor that Brok and Sindri made. It's just a reminder of how much they gave to Kratos and Atreus while getting nothing but loss and destruction in return
And like, a large amount of Hacksilver, but yes your point still stands and stands very well. Reminders are, likely the last thing Sindri wants right now
Bro Kratos gave them millions of hacksilver and acquired countless rare materials in order to make all that gear. Lol
I don't blame him cause that's what grief does but I feel he's more angry at himself than anything because when he got Brok's soul back the first time, he essentially denied him an afterlife. It's just that sort of anger is gonna extend toward others even if they had no intent of it happening
@@BuddyChy No matter how much materials and hack silver you have, if you don't have a capable blacksmith like sindri and brok then what's the point?
@@CoolCat35 that’s not the point at all. It was a mutual relationship. Kratos never seeked them out or asked them for anything. They insisted that they help Kratos upgrade the axe and forge him armor.
Sindri’s actor absolutely crushed this role, so did Thor and Odin. Their characters were portrayed sooo well.
Its also interesting that the actor who played Sindri also played as Roy Earle from L.A Noire, the corrupt and sleazebag cop. Who knows that he can play a complete scumbag and a really nice character like Sindri.
Not only actors -- animators as well. The animation of Sindri in grief, his face, his movements, was as harrowing as his voicelines.
I agree, the actors are amazing. Fk Odin cuz he killed Brock. And no I’m talking the character Odin, not his voice actor, his voice actor needs an Emmy
@@geomania8533 That would be Richard Schiff. I don't know much about his prior works, but you can tell he is a talented actor.
Brok too

The music cutting as the portal closes is INCREDIBLE
hearing the Gjallarhorn be blown still gives me goosebumps, its such an incredible noise
I am so shocked that many people apparently disliked the time he spent on side quests! Some of the best character moments were during side quests and I'd have loved another "epilogue" part where he cleans up the side content!
Yeah the side quests add more lore and worldbuilding to the game. I guess some people just wanted the ride to end
The black girl bit was quite boring and drawn out.
Personally im upset he didn't do more of them. Seeing as once completed, they'd sometimes interact with the main story.
Only cu it messed the flow of the main story, I'd rather a video dedicated to side stuff, not side stuff and story mixed, but that's me
@@CalmClamFam Yeah exactly, like some side quests in God of War 2018 spill into the story for this like freeing the Valkyries
I feel so sorry for Sindri, everyone got their closure for their traumas, for their pain. While Sindir, being one of the most caring characters in the game, gets to suffer and deal with the cost of it. I hope our Dwarf friend comes back to us with forgiveness in his heart.
Man the look on his face at the funeral and his voice when he said "I love you Brok"....I haven't felt emotions like this in a video game since Red Dead 2
I don't think Sindri ever does, which is my ONLY complaint about this game.
@Maysun Is it confirmed they'll make another GoW game? Or a spin-off? I don't doubt it'll be years before we even hear of it.
@@TitanGT66i tried dutch, i did. high honor ending is canon for me
I'm a bit late but i can give you my take on it
I feel like the game was made around "Letting go" Kratos let Atreus go, Freya accepted Baldur's death, Atreus and Kratos accepted what they had to do, even if it meant death
Odin and Sindri are different, Odin said he couldn't be better, he didn't let go, so did Sindri, he didn't let Brok go, in the end both suffered the consequences, tragic but realistic
Your editors are on fire with this series! Major props to them
I love how it was only after everybody said they didn’t need to kill Odin that Sindri showed up and said “Ain’t no way this guy is living another second as long as I breathe.”
Little detail that most people missed: ANGRBODA PAINTED THE LAST PANEL! You can tell by the colours and the way it differs slightly in style to the previous artworks you see.
When you first get to Jotunheim as Atreus, there is one set of paintings she won't tell you about. She only says she's still working on it! Because that part of the future had not been decided yet. It was always in your hands. 😭
Wait. This makes it so much more interesting because that means Angrboda was in on it with Faye in keeping it a secret from Atreus and Kratos the WHOLE time. The whole "you can't change destiny" was a big reverse psychology to make them walk directly into the good ending. I guess that's why I found the way she was acting in the whole Ironwood visit so strange
omg you're right
Wow. Thanks for pointing that out. Reminds me of Dr. Strange to Ironman during end-game. Everyone else knowing about Ironwood and Angrboda might have messed up the events. Glad Atreus was able to convince his dad to just trust him. And it also made more sense that Angrboda was extremely hurt when her grandma was screaming at her about Loki when she knew deep inside that what she believed in was straight gonna happen after all.
@@butterbun7033 Didn't angrboda mention she doesn't even know Faye or hasn't met her?
@@satwikk9896 I don't recall, but I do recall that she seemed resigned to the idea that she would fulfill her role and be forgotten while the future was set. She certainly seemed to take the idea of making her own path, but I like to think that is a mixture of Atreus convincing her and her own desire to write her story herself rather than let fate determine it.
I think Jörmungandr’s whole thing about going back in time and living in the same time as itself is a reference to how in mythology, the serpent is so large that it goes all the way around the world and bites itself in the tail. GoW just did it metaphorically with time instead of literally in the physical world! At least that’s how I see it
I find it pretty insane that Thor is going 110% meanwhile Kratos is still holding back a lot.
kratos going from a cold-hearted man to a man that's 100% capable of giving love and being vulnerable is impressive and I'm glad they gave kratos the ability to feel emotions.
What I find more incredible is the ending. Kratos being a God who can be worshipped and loved truly defines his change. Being a God with no worshippers and hated for the death and destruction; then changing to a God that fought for the sake of realms of people to kill a manipulative and world ending God shows his change. "We must be better" shows the main theme of the story completely.
@@demireapers1013 yeah and it's nice to see kratos changing to become a better version of himself.
Kratos has always been able to feel emotions, he’s just become more empathetic and compassionate.
@@mydreaminghill I agree with you on that. 100%.
Although i love what they did with Kratos, but like, he always had the capacity to feel emotions. He legit tried killin himself because he was so upset and broken over all his torture?!? He stripped himself of all of his power to stay with his daughter in elysium. And then regained those powers and had to leave his daughter behind. HE WAS VERY EMOTIONAL THEN TOO
Sif was against you because she was wondering why you were working for Odin. Someone she expected would be opposed to Odin suddenly seemingly working for him, and the fact that Odin seemed to be showing such respect towards you while treating her family even worse when you were around. Plus the fact you were encouraging her daughter to become a Valkyrie AKA yet another of Odins lapdogs. That was why she seemed very cold to you earlier.
Also worth noting that Sif never said to hurt Atreus/Loki, she told Thor to look at what Odin is doing. Thor is the one who took that as "kill Atreus/Loki"
it makes sense now. yeah you probably right.
uh, what did Odin actually do wrong? Nothing, as far as I can tell
@@helvete_ingres4717 what about make parents sacrifice the child by hanging and turn them into his ravens?
@@helvete_ingres4717 he fucking killed thor, what the fuck do you mean with "odin did nothing wrong"?
"This feels familiar." Is a reference to Faye/Laufey probably having done battle with Thor with her axe.
The snakes are two different Giants, and happen to share a hatred for Thor because he killed them.
The prophecies are incomplete and misunderstood, which is why even Odin are freaking out over them.
No time travel needed at all!

I love the fact each time Kratos dreams of his wife and the more he open his heart to her advice he wake up less and less violently like Kratos fights the advice less each time.
She is the best part of him, in the first game when he stated that he and Atreus were not ready to take her ashes up the mountain he said he doesn't know how to do this without her. I think he was referring to other raising their son without her help or ensuring that he did not become who he originally was. He is taking her lessons to heart as best he can and honestly, I can't help but wonder if the dreams he was of her is a way of expressing what she said about how she will always be a part of him even when she is gone.
