    To explain the Heimdall fight: the idea is that as you use the spear to catch him off guard, you slowly begin to overwhelm his senses and overcome his precognition (notice how when Kratos gets in close with his fists, he can't hit Heimdall at all, then forces him to block instead of dodge, and finally hits him on the cheek). Once you've hit him for the first time and can start hitting him normally, its to show that Kratos has essentially gotten fast enough and unpredictable enough that Heimdall's precognition is no longer an advantage.

    Seeing the hatred on Kratos's face for the split second as he flipped Heimdall over to strangle him to death was intense.
    And it's even worse because it's explained that Heimdall doesn't quite read your mind, like what you're thinking, he reads your intentions. So when he was forced to stare a murderous Kratos in the eyes as he died, he could feel just how far and deep Kratos's wrath goes towards him and all of Asgard for continuously threatening his son goes.
    Back when Thor threatened Heimdall he called him a "Sick man". But when he saw the old God of War peering out from behind its cage of control all he could muster out in horror was "monster".

      Throughout the Norse series, the best way to hurt Kratos emotionally is to call him a monster, to suggest that the only thing he's good for is brutally murdering people. Heimdall would've spotted _that_ a mile away. And as Heimdall was dying, and could do nothing more to Kratos physically, calling him "monster" was the last attack Heimdall had left.

      Main story bosses in games tend to be easier than optional side bosses since developers want everyone to be able to finish a game and see the end of the story whereas optional fights are for people who want more challenge. If they weren't optional and they were insanely hard, it would put a lot of people off the game. Well there’s actually plenty of reason to feel sorry for him, just like Thor and Baldur. They spent their entire lives being groomed, gaslit, abûsed, and just generally manipulated by a father that cared no more for them than what they could offer him through their abilities. He didn’t mourn for Heimdall, he mourned the loss of his foresight and the Gjallarhorn, even though Heimdall was overall perfectly loyal to him and his own son.
      It’s heartbreaking when you realize the lengths of abuse and mind bending he must have gone through for so many years that turned him into the devoted, mindless slave Odin needed him to be. His arrogance likely spawned from a mental defensivenesses, the need to remind himself that he was special and needed. That he MUST be better than others, that his father must surely love and respect HIM because he always does what is asked of him and has powers that are beyond that of most others. He also probably associated being used by Odin with high honor and status because he was raised to be loyal to him unconditionally.
      All of Odin’s children are horribly tragic and I wish all of them got to be mourned and appreciated for who they are. Unfortunately, not only did the developers make Heimdall into a supreme annoyance, but they also didn’t explore his mental state and toxic relationship like they did for Thor. Even Baldur gets some level of empathy and pity through our questing with Freya. Sad that poor Heimdall didn’t get to be portrayed as the Martyr he truly was.

But then Utgard Loki revealed Thor was drinking a cup connected to the world’s oceans and he significantly reduced the water level of the whole planet, the cat was Jormangandr the World Serpent, and even lifting one cats paw off the ground could’ve destroyed the earth, and finally the old lady was the personification of death and the fact that Thor could even put up a bit of a fight was really freaky to Utgard Loki.

    To explain why you were able to hit Himdal during the fight. The first time you stun him, your punches are slow and sloppy, but Kratos was testing his speed. The 2nd time is the same thing, but the final punch made Himdal BLOCK, so he knew he can’t dodge them all, even if he knows they are coming. And so after the 3rd time, he was so fast he was able to hit Himdal for the remaining time during the fight.
    So to summarize, Kratos was smart enough to go faster and faster over time. Even if Himdal knows what Kratos will do, he won’t be fast enough to dodge the attacks.

      @bruv.2214 Před rokem +77

      I don’t agree with this, for a few reasons. It’s a good theory but that would defeat the whole purpose of the spear in the first place. Even Mimir who has seen Kratos fight multiple enemies, was not confident he could lay a finger on Heimdall. The Spear is needed in the battle, Hiemdall did not believe the spear would explode so when it did it disorientated him. Kratos was able to hit him with his fist because I believe Hiemdall was still so confused by the notion and did not have time to recover, but I don’t think it’s a result of “Kratos punching faster than last time.” Personally I’m not really a fan of how the fight played out, with the potential it had it could’ve been really interesting fighting someone who could read your mind and movements but towards the end it just became a regular slasher fight and Hiemdall became more vulnerable like any other enemy.

      He DID test his precognition with different speeds and punches (wild, controlled, very precise and then finally grabbing him ) and slowly got faster, the faster he got the more Heimdal couldn't react, however that wouldn't have been possible were it not for the spear to break his initial guard of arrogance and pride. He couldn't fathom that happened, as was the goal, he was "overwhelmed", Kratos becoming faster and closer to his true godly power being a big part of that.

He realized that Atreus almost got him and he had an angry look at his face (if the arrow didn't affect him at all he would've just been smug about it) and was about to retaliate but then Thor arrived just in time, neat detail.

The first time he could do nothing, the second, his punches more controlled and faster, Heimdal had to block, he couldn't dodge, the third time, even faster, Kratos anticipated the guard and he grabbed him, and punched him.
      He couldn't "just punch him" because Heimdal was still a very strong adversary, and Kratos found the easiest way to strike surely, he knew Heimdal would block, for him he got predictable, and he knew that with this set of punches he would surely land a hit.
