By far the fastest gt350 I have seen on track. Engine sounds amazing.
My god man. What a sound! This man needs to run for high office. Earned my vote!
Actually, I’m pretty damn sure he’s exactly where he wants to be and doing exactly what he wants to do. What an amazing driver Curt is. Politicians talk, painters paint. But this man can drive! Kudos to that car and engine too.

Politicians talk, Painters Paint, Curt Drives & Carroll Shelby Builds Cars.
I look forward to seeing this monster every year at Road America. The sound it makes coming out of the Carousel is spectacular!
WOW! My heart was pounding the entire lap! Wish I had been there.
This car is one of 35 1965 GT350R Mustangs, good luck
Wow, are you serious? What a driver!
That noise is hypnotizing!
ear gasum!!!! love that sound!
That is one healthy piece of machinery!!!!!
Keep in mind this is just a 289 pretty damn good for old school.
289 Ford is an international world champion.
Won the 24 hours of La Mann twice in the FIA GT class and it only ran in that race twice.
Shelby American's Daytona coupe won the FIA world manufacturing championship in 1965 beating Ferrari and his V12's engines with a
289 Ford V8.
Sweet mother of jesus, what an exhaust note. Kick ass video of a kick ass car at a kick ass track. Jealous.
Nice driving.
The sound of that 289 screamin. Intense :)
Ooh! A screamy engine! Awesome!
This is fucking awesome. That's all that needs to be said.
Imagine how great these would have been if those racers in the 60's had a 5spd gearbox
And brakes and tires.....................
The only thing missing in the video is me in the passenger seat yelling! FASTER!!! FASTER!!!!
Carrol Shelby.... The KING!!!
it's not what a driver,,, it's what an engine...nothing compares to a 289 ...
You bet! It should read "she's real fine, my 289".
289 Ford V8 is an international world champion.
Beat Ferrari's 3.0 liter D.O.H.C V12's.
Shelby American's Daytona Coupe is legendary.
usually these guys have 289's in them because they're very light engines, (dry weight APPROX= 580 LB's) and because they can withstand +8,200 RPM with few changes to the block!
How many rpm's is this engine hitting?
thats funtastic!
damn, i need a 65 gt350 !!
Orgasmic exhaust note! :D
this thing revs higher than a honda!
Notice how easily he toasted the Pontiac Trans Am @:31. I always laughed that Pontiac named a car for a race series that, to my knowledge, they never won a race in! Adding insult to injury, Pontiac didn't do their homework on the name they chose, and had to pay the SCCA something like $6 or $8.00 a car for every one sold! Another reason Pontiac is history!
Either way, Shelbys best Mustang in terms of balance, but in all honesty I do know a guy with the 302 in his mustang and it sounds like this, and I know another guy with a 289 in his 1964 Ford Mustang and it sounds slightly higher pitched, higher wound engine.
4.7 litre to be more exact. I think its actually 4.65 or 4.68
@MissouriSGT more like a slightly modified one... ;)
nope it would have a 289, which is 4.7 liter.
The video doesn't do justice to how these cars really sound...
Yeah a 1965 Shelby GT350 is a 289 or 4.7, but this car I believe is a 1965 Shelby GT350R which is a 302 or 5 litre engine, listen to the engine, it sounds like a 302, but I could be wrong.
289. 302 were put in production in 1968.
Hey, COBRA AUTOMOTIVE dudes, why don't you just tell us what this car was running, a 289 or a 302, or maybe even a Chevy 327 (heaven forfend), but whatever it is please fess-up...
+crocostimpy Come to RA and see for yourself. Tuned exhaust gives it a magnificent note!
289.
The 1965 GT-350r beat the 327 corvette in the SCCA B- Production class.
In it's first race, 2/14/65 it qualified in the first 4 out of 5 starting positions including the front row but they came home 1-2-3.
Out of 14 races that year these cars won 12 of them & the other two were won by Corvettes.
you cant decipher the sound between a 289 and 302. The engine is the same, just a shorter stroke...
Now whether or not these guys actually have 289's is a whole different story! I would venture to say they don't regardless of what they are 'supposed' to have
You can hear difference in a 302 and 289 based on stroke only if you're familiar with. This is due to piston speed
its a 5 litre V8 engine
4.7 liter.
289 cid.
