My god that thing sounds AMAZING. THAT is what performance-oriented cars should sound like.
That sound is unreal. It must have been hitting 9000 or so in down shifts - almost sounded like a high-strung Honda engine it was spinning so fast (only about a million times better). Love it!!
Yes, that is the *F.O.R.D.* sound.
Hearing that screamy sound made me a believer in “Fast on Race Day.”
Thats just a very well built small block Ford making 500+hp with one hell of a good driver... Top loader 4 spd . VINTAGE racing
That 289 was singing! Love it!
This is some bad ass racing ? Ive been a drag racing fan most of my life . But these guys are on a whole new level .How these cars can handle so much high rpm for such a prolonged time .Even the down shift rpms were sky high .So much punishment on the drive train .
Hop on in and learn the art. It's the best seat in town
What a driver, fearless & a brilliant classic Mustang
Good save in the gravel, most don't make it back out. Those 289 high performance engines mated to the 2,400 lb. Mustang was one sweet combination, a perfect balance of power and awesome quick acceleration. I was fortunate enough to own one for several years. I added the paxton supercharger package and dropped it into a 66 Falcon Sprint and ran B/GS with it at the drags, another fine combination. Just a great little engine with Ford tuff parts. Thanks for the video, it got my 67 year old heart pumpin. :-)
Closer to 2,800 lbs., but very light in any event. My 2002 SVT Focus weighed 2,740 lbs!
My God that is the most beautiful sound
You haven't lived until you drive a gt350r
Shelby.
Excellent driving ! Shelby Stangs still doing it after all these years - best sound ever.
They drove like a period race rather than a Vintage one. Great footage and sound here!
That was fantastic, that cobra cut across your bow, and then wrecked your line, you got back on and pushed though the field. That is what vintage racing is all about. Nicely done.
Back with a vengeance after over run in the gravel..Nice car great driving I can view this for ever!
The most challenging race I ever drove was against a GT-350R at the Glen in 1970. B Production. Nose to tail for the whole race. Another Corvette had blown the engine going up through the chicane, just where I had an advantage over the Mustang so I could pass there. We were pretty much equal everywhere else. I finally got by just before the end. Almost cooked the motor but the little 327 hung in there. Another 15 minutes & story wouldn't have had a very happy ending.
YEP.. I'LL SECOND THE COMMENT REGARDING balls... Ive not seen such daring skilled slip stream'n ..this was amazing footage.. nice ride and thanks to Curt Vogt.. fine car, amazing engine and suspension just off the charts.. you too, fine fine charge !
@13:34 Curt thinks to himself, "I learned that lesson earlier. Right. Now where is that freakin' Vette?!?"
😆🏁 Doing what he does best!
Modern racing can keep their cookie cutter PlayStation soulless cars that sound like a swarm of bees going round the track. Nothing beats the raw power and sound of the classic race cars, nothing.
It's a shame to see so few spectators at these vintage car races, I think so many are bored with what racing has become that they don't realize what a gem this series is.
I looked up "BadAss" on wiki and it sent me here...
Excellent driving ! Great car you have.
Fantastic video, really showed a great view of the race with a perfect mounted camera and a driver who really attacked and made the race exciting to watch. Thank you
Great racing! Music to my ears!
Nice move on the mustang at the 13:30 mark. You kept the high line before the turn and he swoops in to take the inside but he was carrying too much speed and just drifts right past you out of your way. As much as he was using his brakes, it was only a matter of time. Terrific driving on your part throughout the race.
That NOISE! YEAH BABY!
Yes, this is the *Ford* sound.
One can dream of having a tall-Deck with a billet 4340-M crank having 2.9 inches of stroke, and all the goodies.
Beautiful vid!
Vogt's Mustang had a chance on cold tires but once Klutt's '69 L88 Vette tires warmed up it was check out time!
Love the '65 GT350
Great video !
Amazing car and driving of Mr VOGT
Great great great!!! fantastic pilot!
the sound is incredible,,what a thrill of a ride
Bad Ass Car!! Great Driving!! Wow Thank You..
That engine likes high rpms holy shit
Awesome!
and holy shit you were singing man!
Beautiful,loved it.......man on a mission!!!!!!!!!
YES YES YES, LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. Are they not the best car ever…by a mile! Awesome driving too
Oh my God.....a rearview camera would've been the bomb too!!
My dad still reminisces about his Falcon with a 289 that he cranked over 400 hp out of....said it literally screamed....
Jason Fryer my thoughts exactly! Awesome ride along though! Great driving...
Yes, it had the *FORD* sound.
If I had the money, I would have such an an engine in a car from that time period.
Nothing like getting a hair close to 9000rpm under downshifting and still keeping your bottom end ...Love it !
Damn, That’s some serious racing!
Very Cool!
What a soundtrack that motor makes - go team!
Nicely done Curt! Been a long time since I have been on track ... with allot less horsepower to boot. I assume the 'thunks' on braking were the AC getting into the back of you. Sure hope the driver appreciated you taking an off instead of his rear quarter pannel, what a ding-a-ling. Nice job setting up the GT and going high on the entrance ... in fact OUTSTANDING job!
11:30 to 13:30 - fantastic pressure on the Shelby in front!
thats some wild stuff man!
very exiting race I never see
That sound is absolutely hair-raising... I wish I had a car that sounded like that.
How does this video only have 650 likes ?!?!
Sounds more like a sports bike - insane!!
Extreme discipline a nd a very high level of skill for that car!
Very nice...
Intense Whoa !!
This is such an amazing video!
I love the car and I love the track and I’m very sad that they repaved the Glen a few years ago and now it has lost so much of its character..
It’s way to smooth and easy to drive these days.
Racetracks have to have patches and differences in the surface, that is what makes a racetrack interesting and fun to drive!
What a fantastic vid. Great camera location!
the guy in the vette has my respect, fast car and or good driver!
Who cares about the vette 🤣
Fantastique ;-)
Racing at its best...
Drive it like you stole it. Shit yeah
STAND IN IT
Great car and great driver! He's punishing that little small block.
Great set up.. That car is hooked up and digging 289 with a paxton?
unbeliveable!!! never heard a pushrod vintage v8 scream like that, how many hours does it last ? You are a lucky Guy!!
time to wake up then
That engine screams
That man has balls of steal.
This engine screams "Go hard or go home!"
Beautiful sound!
Those poor engine bearings.
I think the guy in the Vette is Peter Klutt from Legendary Motorcar Co.
Driven like it was made to do, no trailer queens here!
Did the Cobra clip him at 7:20?
And to think I knew a kid in high school whose daddy bought him a 66’ GT350 as a seventeen year old. Kid probably told dad it was only a 289 cid and the GT350 is just a trim package.
Dad clearly wasn’t thinking.
Nothing sounds like a built Windsor at full song. I came
Dude can DRIVE the old mustang...shifts remind me of 2 stroke 125 class... HIGH REVVVVS! !My fake 350 just got 347 stroker, , but I short shift at 6000rpm... took too long to scrape $$$ together to build car...!!!! Want it to last my golden years
That is one angry engine - what's the redline? Around 8500? Fine drive!
MrThunder I'm thinking it's the 289 inch motor and the way they were set up they could scream around at 9500 all day long ...The Shelby GT350 was the Hi-Po 289 ...
@@TheRoguelement I think the tach hit around 8500 rpm on some of the downshifts.
You start to get the *FORD* sound when you turn a 289 past Seven or so.
Makes me wish I could have gotten one of these and set it up for this sort of business. That engine sounds wonderful!
What transmission does the car have?
Probaly a jerico with dog teeth , down shift without clutch.
I was there for that race. It's better on u tube.
15 mins at average 7500rpm = 100000 revolutions
i love all these old cars. my adolescence is showing...hahahaha... but serious;y when chev isn't using larger displacement look what happens... give me that mustang....in those days ford engines ruled... lemans proved it...it isn't about how much power you make but for how long you can continue to produce it...
Hi. How many hp ?
крутой пилот, под стать тачке! агрессия!
She sure has a push in the slow speed stuff…stabbing the throttle to get her to rotate …
289 high performance surely its a bigger so much grunt
speed is just a matter of money
THE SOUND IS SO......RUDE AND MEAN 💪
Classic cars be damned..
We're fuc#in racing the shit outta these girls !!!
Even on my couch..this is a white knuckle ride !!!!
WHEW !!
Jerry Reed: PMS, I guess! Hahaa... .
If you never go into the traps, you are not pushing hard enough.
god Damn that vette is quick
ZL1 power!
I don't think this guy used the clutch even once. I could be wrong, but it doesn't sound like it.
Those guys were not fooling around
The punishment that engine is going through is beyond belief
Before rev limiters were a thing 😂
for me i would rather have that mustang than any corvette ever built past, present, or future. what i don't understand is WTF is wrong with that cobra? is it a kit car?
olit toinen
all those amazing noises, but only as fast as a 200hp E36 M3
11:30 watch this amateur riding his brakes
Your stabs at the throttle sound cool, but they make you slow. Be smooth and feed the throttle. You should be flat out through the esses. Not feeding it 8 grand here and there. It sounds awesome, but definitely underpowered compared to the corvette in front of you who is steadily pulling away. Either due to better set up/power or better application of both. Good lord, just put it in a gear and floor it through the esses. And the bus stop should not be a gear shift on exit. Love the car sound, but you have many seconds left in this car..
no way a car with that hp and grip
level is flat through the esses
hey curt i'm offering to help you be a better racing car driver , if i can't help i'll give you $500 . not trying to diss you just offering help
