We discuss McCafferty's history/story as well as Nick Hartkop's antics all the way from 2013-2018. Forest Life, Beachboy, and all the rest. Hope you enjoy.
Part 3 coming sooner than you think.

Yo man! U probably won't see this but i was wondering if you would ever be willing to do a "newcomer bands" type compilation videos or something like that? I've been following u for a while on youtube and i think that there is many new bands/ bandmembers in your followers, myself included that would enjoy that type of content.
Love the content you make mate, i'm genuinely happy i found this channel since it has quickly became one of my favourite channels!
Love from finland
Nikolas Siika-aho you have been heard and I will make a video like this at some point
U gotta make a video on PUP
"Much love!"
@@NateTheMateForever ay bro give it a couple months for my bands ep ;))
When Hanna said “I’m gonna go listen to the front bottoms now” after her statement? iconic.
That's also just so relatable! Everything around mom jeans, McCafferty and sorority noise just made me listen to lyrics videos and tfb
It was based asf
is her listening to the front bottoms now meant to be an insult or something? these 2 videos and jank are the first time ive ever looked in to the history of any band i listen to so i know nothing about anything else other than just the music
theworstpear what’s up with mom jeans? Haven’t heard anything :/
@@TheAfker basically, everyone said McCafferty sounded just like tfb and it made nick angry and they had beef or whatever with tfb fans
I am so scared for young girls in the indie/alt scene. These bands make music about mental health issues and low self esteem, they attract young fans like that, then they turn out to be abusers and predators. Obviously the majority of the people within these spaces are good people, but this pattern is frequent enough to be worrisome. I just hope "cancel culture" can actually mean something good in situations like this so these abusers and predators aren't put on a pedestal for them to use to their advantage.
Exactly! There's a really surface deep veneer in the scene. A lot of guys like Nick act charming, kind, and soft to trap and gas light girls. There's also a total power inbalance that a lot of these people use with their fans to have power over them.
Yeah definitely- as a young teenager (I’m non-binary but I appear very feminine cause I can’t do much sjsgjdjg) it’s really scary whenever I go to a show that if I want to meet the band I run the risk of being sexually harassed/assulted
Most definitely justs makes it suck for the bands that are not like that
Thinking about how Nick Hartkop ended up becoming the very thing most of his fans were advocating against by listening to his music. Sadly ironic
so so true
I domt believe that ita a thing he ended up becoming, but that he was projecting himself onto other people the whole time as a way to play victim. My dad does the same thing
But, I'm only an outsider so it's not like I, or anyone else who wasnt directly involved, will ever know the whole story
Given the intro, I just wanna leave this segment from an old Tumblr post made by Chris Motionless that I think some of you might appreciate.
#2. This “you saved my life”, “you’re my hero” and “you’re my voice” thing has become an unbearable burden and a downright eye roller. NO. I did not save your life. NO.. band X, Y or Z did not save your life. IF in fact you were on the brink of any self harming action… it was YOU who pulled yourself from the ledge. You saved your life, You are the hero. Why are people not willing to take credit for their own actions? Thats right… because thats what fans think bands want to hear. I’m not taking ANYTHING away from people who do self harm or have a hard time with any aspects of their lives. We’ve all been there and having gone through those things myself shaped who I am today and made me want to use music as an outlet. I do agree that music can be a very helpful tool in helping you overcome whatever is ailing you, but in the end it’s only you who had the strength to pull yourself out of it. I am strictly speaking out against the many many people i’ve seen approach me in the most absolute insincere, dishonest fashion with the “you guys saved my life” lines. I wish I had video of it so you can get the full effect. I can see right through it. It’s as though that has become the new “hello” when approaching a band member. What happened to “hey man, great show”, or “Hey guys, I really like your record/song”? Why does fucking EVERYTHING have to be laced with the “omg like you totally saved my life, and my friends life and her cats life” or the “you’re a huge inspiration, you’re my hero”? Can someone please tell me how the FUCK these bands who write lyrics about getting wasted or degrading women have saved your life? Seriously? It’s giving the people who really do deal with this stuff a bad name. Not to mention that on many occasions, I’ve seen people tweet things at me, then i’ll go to their twitter page only to see that they literally copy and pasted the same words to 15 other band members with only the intention of getting a response from one of us so they can screen shot it and brag about it. Disgusting. And you wonder why I just want to just simply write/play music and get the fuck out of that world of things??
TL;DR: You saved your life, not vocalist for your favorite band.
I saved my life but the music I love is the reason why.
That's why I usually say 'your music means a lot to me because i listened to it during a difficult time'. It's annoying when people are like 'Without this tv show I don't know if I'd be alive' like they wouldn't have just used another tv show as a form of escapism- same with music.
This band slept on my floor a few years ago. I couldn’t even believe the allegations that came out at first.
huh
Do you mean like the floor of a hotel or...?
Richard's Biggest Fan The floor of my apartment 10 minutes from the venue that night.
The 9 dislikes are from Nicks alt accounts
or from people that think nick can eventually better himself, I believe he truly is a great person. he just needs to get mental help
@@trevorturner104 if he can get better it wont be soon hes been cited pretending to get better just to fall back with decades of building on this so if he does kudos to him but never should he show his face in the music world again
@@trevorturner104 he can and should get help, become a better person. But stay the hell away from music. Fans who dislike content exposing who the man is isn't fans saying he's a good person; it's fans enabling this behavior. We can all admit he did some really scummy shit and has done too much damage to those in his band/ in the scene for us to give him any other chances. He can become a better person in a different line of work.
and the fan accounts he has for some reason
LMAOO
I usually am the person to dissociate the art from the artist, but I can't do that for this situation. Knowing all this from Nick just feels so wrong. All his "nice" shit he does is just public image and He is actually a terrible person underneath and hearing McCafferty I just feel sick.
Separating art from the artist is especially impossible and disgusting when it comes to this sorta music too, emo-ish music is literally autobiographical. This dude is directly relaying his opinions and emotions via the music. It’s very easy to see how toxic and red flag ridden he is
Wonder Bread the lyrics are literally lying to you. I see what you mean
He’s a punk artist they are know for being shitty
that's not really a good thing to do, because I understand wanting to enjoy media, but at the end of the day, who is getting the money from it? by working to financially support artists who do *terrible* things, you're facilitating them.
Its so sad because McCafferty was my favorite band for 4 YEARS all throughout middle school and now into highschool, i loved the band so much and the songs touched my heart, truly. Its so dissapointing that i cant, in good couscous, continue to support nick even though the band and their songs helped me through so much. :/
I feel you they also helped me so much but i can't listen to them more
You can still listen just pirate all their material, that's what I did with Brand New
I'm sorry but "in good couscous" is so funny omg
Yeah I get that, if you did wanted to tho, you could find a reposting of their songs, rip it on to a CD or your phone and listen without nick getting any support.
Damn they've helped me a lot and now I'm just learning about all this, I don't know if I should keep listening or not :(
Hey good news though, The Front Bottoms are putting out a new album. ;)
8 months in the future, I’m guessing you’re talking about ISAIF, and it’s so good
Rape allegations
i’m gonna go listen to tfb now
as the owner of the (former) mccafferty discord, none of us were actually suprised when these allegations came out, it was more of a "oh it finally happened" moment. we all knew that when nick dropped Divva, mccafferty was pretty much done for. the discord is still alive and kicking, though we closed it off and killed all the links around november 2019 (around the release of Divva) so we wouldnt be associated w/ mccafferty anymore. good video dude im looking forward to the next one. hope you trash on divva lmao
Why Divva? Why that song?
(edit) I stopped listening to him when he last (?) broke up after like a month after the band last (?) broke up and I don't want to listen to that song and give Nick that sweet royalty money.
@@almostshawn3230 what do you mean why divva? are you asking why i thought divva meant mccafferty was done for? if thats what youre asking, then i thought that because it was something so low quality and so... aggressive? like i just knew that nick was cracking under the pressure of having so many fans and that divva was a way to respond to the "haters". i dont really know how to word it but the whole divva thing was so removed from reality it just seemed like he was about to lose it. you can go ahead and listen to it, i doubt you'll be able to make it through the entirety of both songs cuz theyre so bad lmao
Hey I know that u locked down the discord server, however are there any servers u would recommend for being interested in similar Musical taste? I have been looking but never finding something good tbh

@@dangerfry i have been doing so, unfortunately they are small to none (most of them having a dead invite link etc)
I can’t believe all this happened. McCafferty was my favorite band in middle school. I just finished freshman year of high school and all winter I listened to their album “The House With No Doorbell” everyday while walking to the store to buy a donut and a grape soda for lunch. I related to a lot of their music. They were even my biggest inspiration for starting my own music career. But now I don’t think I can listen to McCafferty the same way as I used to. Rip McCafferty.
I just kinda liked Beachbody and now I've seen this :(
this made me so mad when i first hear about it. beach boy was literally my favorite album when i was a freshman and now i cant even listen to it without thinking about all the shit nick has done
Just listen to it its music plus its the past
Big Smoke Not that simple for everyone. Nick was always an artist that felt incredibly tied to his music. Most people who were hardcore fans of the band can’t just separate the art from the artist in this case, and understandably so.
Nick is literally punk Onision
God, true.
i hate the fact that ur so right-
ppl from the Midwest b crazy 😳🥴
It’s always the performative allies that are truly the worst.
and THIS is why, ladies and gentlemen, we torrent
"It's A" used to be my favorite song by this band. But now knowing the context.. out of respect for Nick's ex wife I can't listen to it anymore
I'm gonna go listen to the front bottoms now
Fucking killed em dude
He wanted to be a special ed teacher while saying the r word and having multiple abuse accusations???? Holy shit
i hope nick’s students are alright and nothing happened to them, and that all his victims are doing better. im gonna watch part 3 now
was supposed to tour with these guys. they dropped off the tour a month before. i was sad about it at first but wow did we dodge a fuckin bullet with that one.
Dude I remember when you had something like 1000 subs. I'm so glad you've grown up this much. I love you
im gonna go listen to the front bottoms now
I have been a member of the FB group for years now, & I tried to read the testimonies but I got very confused in the process since they were all posted in threads without much backstory, so I got confused. I’m v happy that you made this series so I can educate myself more about this. I learned so much more than I thought.
I hope I'll never have to see a video like this on Remo Drive
Fuck man same. Same time though, portrait of an ugly man really flopped for me. I don't think that's been the general consensus though
@@cameronwilkinson1894 No it has been, Portrait of an Ugly Man has gotten a sort of negative response. Basically Remo Drive fans are the new Weezer. We hate everything new.
I wouldn’t post comments about other bands on a video like this. This topic is about abuse and negative things a member of a band has done. Not the quality of the music. People might read your comment and get the wrong idea.

After reading and watching videos about narcissim and narcissistic personality disorder, it seems as though that's how Nick is. I'm not a psychologist, but it seems to fit so well.
It seems like he has a lot of issues. I'd say BPD most likely
Hes a borderline:/

I actually speak to nick over Instagram, had a convo with him today actually, even tho what hes done is awful he has truly changed and is a very kind and well spoken person
Thank you Nate, we love you
Nate thank you for posting all of these. I dig most of the same music you do, anda buddy had played a song from this band, and I thought it was cool. But this really does shape my opinion of the band.
Damn “it’s A” is my favorite song ://
i love nate's videos
Aaaand that’s when I took all McCafferty songs out of my playlists. I could possibly seperate the art from the artists with bands like led zeppelin and John Lennon but this is full on.
Let this band fall and rot away in the annals of music history.
Well done 👍🏼
i've been waiting for this; im really bad at keeping track of things so the google document was difficult for me to understand, but you've helped me realised JUST how bad of a person nick really is. thank you for that
We're back on the excursion.
So for all of you commenters I was on the subreddit and something like 16 days ago someone posted something with a message from Nick Hartkop himself saying he was going to be releasing a new album with a full band this time, so apparently he's trying to come back with new bandmates this time.
Would you ever do a dissection of crywank's discography? Today is nearly yesterday and everyday is stupid is a great album.
I will still listen to the music but I will always have this in the back of my head..
With the lyrical content in their songs, is anyone really surprised by any of this?
I joined the McCafferty Facebook group when it opened in 2014-15, (before it was in the front bottoms group in 2013). Back when I was an edgy emotional teenager Nick's songwriting really stuck with me because it was so emotionally charged. Unfortunately it turned out that Nick himself ended up being emotionally abusive and bled thru their music.
McCafferty were renouned for canceling their band countless times, didn't know why but now know because of Nick emotionally abusing others and later his own fans. I did not know any of these further allegations in these videos until now, I just knew when the info about Nick harassing Daisy countless times my support for him was gone, first was the fan t shirts that my friends and I made (mccafferty sucks sheep t shirts) and Nick not taking it to heart (pun intended), then came the voicemails and all I was extremely pissed and left the whole. Just hurt that he hated and harassed his fans that were the only people supporting him at the time, using a victim mentality on the only people actually there for him. You're right about Zane and Daisy being the main force that led them to actually getting big again, they are both the reason why the fan base grew quick since BB2 and stayed so organized, it just hurts that Nick was (for a lack of a better term) tox--- garbage to them.
Reading further into other statements about Nick makes me sick and it hurts to know someone that you think was honest and that their music was your escape from family problems and abuse hurts even more.. .
I grew up around drug abuse of family members, alcoholics, and was bullied since middle school so McCafferty was my one escape on bike rides after school, McCafferty videos still sit on my CZcams account (some unlisted, some public), I don't know if I'll get around to deleting them still or letting it stay up. I do know that Wes and Evan are the real hidden reason I listened to McCafferty in the first place. The diy production and the honesty behind their first band eps got me going. Thanks Sorry Sure felt like a step back because they lost that element via outside overcompressed production but I've learned to appreciate that release more and more. The remixed version of Forest Life and the whole other album art controversy (I don't know if you got into that but Nick actually stole the original FL artwork from someone and never paid for it) sucks. When the Lightning Hit however will always stay as one of my favorite releases, Hold Hands will always slap.
Last year I saw Wes play a show in Rochester NY with his other band Ola Mesa, they're rad and I hope you all check them out. Please support the other members of McCafferty and don't buy any merch that involves Nick.
Nate I enjoyed this series and also your Front Bottoms suck but rock video, keep up the good work!
thanks for being one of the OGs dude! happy my dumb little group i made in high school was a fun place for you :)

I illustrated the cover for ‘when lightening hit’ and it’s embarrassing tbh. Wish I never did that. Wes was always a really kind guy, and any doubts I had about nicks character at the time (2014?) I figured must be fine If all his band maxes were so kind. I had no clue what was really going on, Glad they all spoke out. Fuck mccafferty

Sounded like a bunch of high school stuff that should have stayed in high school man. Everyone these days trying to "cancel" everyone.
I've heard from someone who used to work with them that the bands members are very manipulative and regularly say the n word. It's not that they used to say it, they still do and refuse to understand it's meaning.
some people really do get all the second chances and then just... proceed to suck, huh?
I- Is nick gone now? Or still there, they released a new one last year right?
👌
They just announced on Spotify they are recording beachboy 2
What type of lazy marketing stunt is just naming a new album of your failing band just the name of your most successful album and slapping a 2 on there? Damn, he's not even trying to be original now
You realize making a “sequel” album is very common right?
It was so disheartening to learn about this. Trying to learn how to disconnect music from the artist.
I think it's best to just listen to lyrics videos from independent sources, not from Spotify or anything. It is important to separate art from the artist, but it's a good alternative to just not support them as opposed to just ignoring the actions of the artist.
Couldn't do it with Michael Jackson and idk if I'll be able to do it now
But music is an embodiment of the artist
I'm only about 8 minutes into the video. While I wasnt really all that invested into Mccafferty and rarely listened to the music, it's still sickening and even embarrassing that I ever listened to that music when Nick is the same type of person that abused me my entire life. So many of these things that Lindsay spoke up about are eerily similar to the shit my mother went through before she and my father divorced. And after they did, for that matter, since he still has partial custody to my brother and I. (He cut off all contact to us recently though, probably as "punishment;" however, it was more of a blessing than a curse). I dont remember the things he did before they divorced-I was barely a toddler-but the stories and my own experiences are enough for Nick's treatment of his ex-wife to feel disgustingly familiar.
i can believe it
bojack horseman is real

Is the music at 11:59 a little bit tone-deaf, Nate?
This is so sad I was a huge fan of McCafferty especially because of their song trees I already knew of them before trees came out but it really spoke what I didn't know how to describe and hearing about how terrible he really is is heartbreaking
This shit sucks. I was a massive fan of mccafferty, i related to the lyrics because of my abusive dad and it helped me get thru shit. Then this come out, and i realize I've been supporting an abuser for a couple years? Crazy man. It sucks
Nick sounds a lot like my father
cool video, however the mid roll ad every 3 seconds makes it infuriating to watch
Man, this really sucks. I JUST found this band a couple months ago. Though I really hope the people involved with all of "that" are okay now. Seems like it would be really mentally draining and just a terrible place to be at the time tbh.
Very informing video! Can’t believe how awful he is. One criticism about it tho. Nothing about the content just how you order everything. You jump around to different times a lot and it can be a little confusing getting a clear coherent timeline in my head. Other than that great video!
Genuinely appreciate your constructive criticism. I’ll keep that in mind when producing future videos. Thank you so much
Just a small thing but you really shouldn't use the word testify if it's not related to a court case
So heres a question. I dig McCafferty and it sucks that nick is such a monster, if i keep listening to their albums on spotify does he profit? Do the former members profit? How does me listening to them effect all of them?
Like... i want to boycott nick, but not to the detriment of the other members.
I mean use other platforms that don't involve the McCafferty name. There's people that repost their music. But I'm not sure if they still somehow profit like that.
There is no rest of the band. It's just Nick and Emily. Listening on Spotify and CZcams gives them revenue.
Pirate it if you can. Nick makes 100% of the band’s revenue from Spotify. Don’t listen there.
the other members have divorced themselves from mccafferty. they want nothing to do with it, and nick is withholding all band revenue.
I love moose blood
