What is going on my mates! I hope you have all been very well. Today we are going to be talking about a band called My Chemical Romance and their album The Black Parade | For a while now I've wondered how the black parade is still relevant so I thought I'd make a vid showcasing my thoughts on this. Keep in mind, this video isn't meant to be perceived as fact, rather just my ideas and thoughts since there is no cut and dry answer.
My Chemical Romance consisted of Gerard Way, Frank Iero, Mikey Way, Michael Pedicone, and Ray Toro. They have released great albums like Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, and Danger Days. Nothing comes quite as close as The Black Parade in terms of commercial success, overall appeal, and relevancy. Gerard Way is truly a visionary and it really shines through on this album and seems to be continuing into his later work aka TV shows. And of course Frank Iero is his own beast, I mean come on, you already know how talented and prolific Frank Iero is
My Chemical Romance has been described as being alternative rock, emo rock, pop punk, and many other things. They're a hard group to assign genres to, but I've always just considered them a cool, weird, unique rock band sorta..? haha I don't even know, they're just great.
The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance contains great tracks like: The End. , Dead! , This Is How I Disappear, The Sharpest Lives, Welcome To The Black Parade, I Don't Love You, House Of Wolves, Cancer, Mama, Sleep, Teenagers, Disenchanted, Famous Last Words, and of course the hidden track Blood
The album was released October 23, 2006 and lives on strongly today in infamy
Emo kids then listened to it and modern day emo kids still listen to it.
Great album
I will thank you and high five Gerard Way if you follow my brand on IG @matesclubusa
thank you always
Love you.

Why do people act like they have to grow out of music? I still listen to all the Pop Punk and Emo music that I listened to growing up.
same I listen to that stuff most my music tastes just expanded (film scores, blues, jazz, 1930's-40's - Frank sinatra, Glenn Miller, psy-trance, The Beatles, Floyd, Metallica, Motorhead, AC/DC, Bon jovi and loads more)
I was into 1970s-90's punk music like The Clash, The Ramones, The Misfits before I started liking modern stuff like Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco etc but I remember hearing Early Sunsets Over Monroeville by MCR off their 1st record when I was 6 thanks to my childhood best friends big brother who had the 1st album and was one of the 1st to get it here in England actually had a friend from America send it over, loved it so much he made a playlist for me like my own CD mixtape that included Early Sunsets and Skylines And Turnstiles, I think I still have that CD in my attic to this day
To add more context I'm 24 now (turning 25 in January)
My 1 year old son is already a MCR fan, he smiles every time Welcome To The Black Parade comes on so that is a song that will definitely span the generations and will stand the test of time as one of the greats, a lot of their songs will

NUUUU
the black parade is basically this:
when you’re young you enjoy it
when you’re old you understand it.
in the same way that when you’re younger you identified with SpongeBob, but when you got older you identify with Squidward
Edit: for the 12 year olds who got defensive about being young and not understanding the music and who say age doesn’t matter, guys age DOES matter it makes you wiser and helps you gain more experience in life which leads to having a different perspective on things such as death, loss, illness and depression which all are topics this albums focuses so much on. There is no shame in being young and naive and admitting that there is so many things in life you are ignorant about, just like how there is no age that determines complete knowledge and wisdom we are always learning and evolving ☺️. sorry for the rant
But I'm young and I enjoy and understand it......
@@izzysavage4634 did you understand it on your own ?

People were mad coz they were "ripping off Queen"?????
As a Queen fan, i can confirm that Queen is very different from My Chemical Romance. And that isnt a bad thing.
I think that the song black parade is very reminiscent of Queen because it is a rock anthem much like a lot of queens songs but it has its own style and flare. Not to mention MCR is the Queen, Elvis Presley, frank Sinatra etc. of our generation
Same
Isn't Gerard a fan of Queen tho?
Magos Explorator Adeon he is. Very much so. I believe that he’s mentioned that the band was influenced by Queen. :)
Magos Explorator Adeon yes. It’s just rude to say it’s a “rip off“ because they don’t sound alike at all.

@@southernladyish Agree, everybody should watch that
Agreed
It literally is
It's timeless. The album is about death, disease, frustration, lost of love, anxiety, loneliness and the need to keep living and move forward despite all of it. You can enjoy it as a teenager or in your 30's, the feeling stays the same.
What the video should have said.
If anything my connection to the album has evolved and grown with me as iv gone from a teen to an adult
That’s what seems to make it timeless. As you get older, the themes evolve with you.
...and late 40s!
As a ‘90s Goth (not on purpose; uni students like me tended to fall in to this...) good non boppy music tends to appeal over the generations.
I only truly understood this album when I became an adult.

The official stamp of approval
god same, my Christian, near-boomer, scolded me for saying frick LOVED mcr
If you actually think about it if this album was made in the early years of Christianity this album would popular among Christians There was this practice called memento mori which was about reflecting on ones own death which was a popular practice in the early stages of Christianity. This practice actually kinda became re-popularlized at least within Catholic circles by a nun who has a large Catholic following. And since this album is focused on death they are also technically doing this practice which means your mother is just doing what her Christian ancestors did.

Welcome To The Black Parade is basically like an emo version of Bohemian Rhapsody. IMO.

I'm a 50 year old "old school" Metalhead and tbh The Black Parade, since day 1, has been my favorite album.
same here...... great concept, great arrangements, songwriting and also very good lyric-writing...... that record has so many things other records from that "bucket" just don’t have...... for me, it aged quite well
Ah me as an 11 MCR fan since the beginning of last year, I can agree they are a great band
No Problem and Gerard Is 43 years old
@Donnie V. nobody’s saying that it isn’t.
Fellow metalhead here.. I just posted a very similar comment about this album on another video 🤘
I never had an emo phase. I don’t think you need to have one to appreciate The Black Parade, even thought that’s how a lot of people got into it.
The music itself is creative and engaging. Once you take the lyrics seriously for a few seconds, you’ll see the genuine effort and emotion that built them.
I agree. I was only 10 when this album came out, and never had anything close to an emo phase. I would hear some of their more popular tracks now and again courtesy of my more Hot Topic inclined friends, but never really took the time to look any further into their music. I only very recently started diving into their deeper tracks and HOLY guacamole do I curse the fact that I never got to wallow in these albums during my angsty years.
Ikr? I also didn't have an emo phase, but when I heard I'm not okay I heavily related. ADHD is a very invisible disorder bc everyone gets distracted sometimes, but that's like comparing depression to being sad sometimes
I was too old when it came out to have an emo phase. And I agree. It's just extremely well written music.
When Black Parade was at its height, I was heavy into rap and rnb not caring for anything rock but Welcome to the Black Parade and Teenagers really stuck out to me and I actually liked them despite my stubborn music taste. Like I wouldn't listen to anything else but if those 2 came up I wouldn't mind finishing off the song. Since then, I've fully embraced it all and love most of their music. Danger Days I love the most
Honestly, I'm IN my emo phase. Actually, no...
IT'S NOT A PHASE, MOM!
okay I'm sorry I'm gonna go back into the Teenagers music video where I belong.
They gonna clean up your looks, with all the lies in the books-
I feel that
"Teenagers" suddenly came on while I was listening to my 4000-ish "Liked" songs on Spotify and right after it ended I had a sudden moment of clarity
Now at 27 years old I finally understood that song
Teenagers scare the living shit out of me as well 😂
Because I'm far from that age myself and that's it I'm getting old
Well... This aged well. Yesterday I returned to my very first album that I listened to: welcome to the black parade. I listened it with my mom and my dad in 2007 and in 2009 they split up, some discussions went down and I remember running to my room and put some headphones and my ipod and cry listening to that album. After that I kinda let it go because of the bad memories. But from time to time I would go and listen to some of the musics, and yesterday I don't know why but I listened the album all day long, even in work. It's so damn good. By the way, my dad and mom are friends, they have a good relationship between them and I got to see both of them.
They released stuff after 2009 though. The actual (Disbandment) break happened after the release of Danger Days and it's complementary set of singles Conventional Weapons in 2014 (this is probably because they toured this album and while they toured it I think they also worked on the CWeps single set). If you're referring to the lineup before Bob left then yea it's probably 2009, but after he left they recorded a few more things.
I think people leave out the final album because they feel TBP is the magnum opus and not Danger Days which was them really moving forward, including with their appearance. Probably also left out by many due to the songs feeling not very cohesive (within one genre/sub-genre), like with the previous album (TBP) since that one more or less had songs on the same tangent in terms of genres.
Vampire Money is kind of an important song and that's from the final album, since it's the story of how they turned down having any song in any installment of Twilight in a song. I think I learned that little fact recently watching others cover MCR in similar format videos after they had their only reunion tour so far.
“Even your mom has probably heard them (songs from Black Parade) at one point.”

Yeah buddy. The song was well timed bc of the post 911 imagery. Did anybody else get the feeling that GW was sticking it to GW (Bush) with the "starving to death" sign? And Mama... Yes I was already a mom when this came out. But even the best of us like to scream out our mother issues when tender young minds aren't around to see us. This was my own mother's funeral song. And others... Most of the album speaks to the places where we all hold our deepest rage and indignation. I still love it, and I was never emo, or even goth (I listened to Yer Grandpa's Metal when It was still new ;) )
Hold the phone... this was GW's death fixation? Disappointed :P I'm sticking with the "giving the bird to the Bush Administration's war machine" fan theory :P
I'll still be listening to MCR and all my emo bands.....my dad was a metalhead when he was a teen and he's still one and still listening to his favorite bands to this day!

I’m 36. Just started listening to the album a month ago. Haven’t stopped. It’s transcendent, taking you on a journey through life and death. It deals with heavy themes with tenderness, sensitiveness, angst and presents them with pure, raw emotion. The last song and arc to redemption “I am not afraid of keep on living” is an anthemic, life-affirming screaming of the soul. The whole thing is exhaustingly wonderful and one of the greatest concept albums ever. So glad I discovered it. 👌🏻

Yes! I'm in my mid 30's and I only discovered this album in the last few months (by chance playing I'm Not Okay on Guitar Hero and then looking into more of MCR's albums from that). Although I was aware of a few of the songs, there's something about the lyrics that resonates with me now I'm older and have a family. There's also something about the actual instrumental side of it that just makes me go all goosebumpy as I can appreciate the skill involved. This is a great album to get lost in.
Bold of you to assume I'm gonna stop listenning to emo music one day
I remember when The Black Parade was released, I was in middle school and wow the impact that it made. I didn’t stop listening to it for MONTHS. It was THAT AMAZING. Even Non emo kids in my school didn’t stop talking about it. It made that much of an impact. Unfortunately when they went on tour my parents didn’t let me go cause they didn’t approve their music. And now after 15 years of waiting I get to finally see them live!
When I first heard "though you're dead and gone, believe me, your memory will carry on", (when I was 11/12) I thought it was the most beautiful, eloquent piece of lyric I'd ever heard.
And at 23, amidst my weekly existential episodes, it still has the same affect.

I thought this would be an informative video that constructs its arguments based on music theory. This is just your personal experience listening to the album/song (not that that's wrong I'm thrilled you enjoyed the album). Taking the song at face value, maybe you like the chord progressions, the variety of instruments making it more aligned to the sounds of a parade, the vocals, the drummer, the fact your parents didn't like it, or you liked the idea of it trying to encompass a dying man's thoughts. Taking it at face value, you probably won't get all of those and many more things the artist put into the song. Revisiting it will give you a deeper understanding and appreciation for it throughout the years, but the fact that MCR nailed so many of these attributes so well is what makes it a good song. Many artists have tried to do one or two of these and couldn't do it. That's why I was hoping he would discuss some high level music theory to explain why MCR's Black Parade hits these things so well where others have failed. :(
Im 28 now, almost 14 years later, I still love it!
There are no skips on this album. Their whole discography still holds up.
Ok, so I know you probably didn't expect someone old enough to be your gran commenting but here I am! When I first saw I'm Not OK I knew, even though I was 40, that I was listening to something amazing. When TBP came out I realised how brilliant it was, and unlike the Queen fans who thought it derivative I was a Queen fan who relished a band who I saw as natural successors to Queen, with such creativity and musicianship. I've seen a ton of bands live and nothing ever came close to the raw power of an MCR gig. I miss their live shows so much. I just hope they reform, or at least tour, before I become the patient myself!!
I was in my 30s and know what you mean. That's a lovely reply.
I doubt we will get a reform given them all being very happy with the career paths they are in now, and I'm not sure I'd want one. Their was a raw passion behind what they started, and their last album although musically great felt like it was the end to the era. They didn't expect to go past BP so for an extra album after that to come I think that was probably the perfect way to end it. I'd worry that with such passion in other areas now they'd not have the same drive for MCR, plus not to mention Gerard doesn't like to be Infront of a camera never mind an audience anymore haha x
Sista, you are singing my song!!!
Yes! Exactly!
lol, i'm 54...
I just listened to this album for the first time today, and this is beautiful to watch, thank you.
I'm almost 40 and I Love this Album! have loved it since it came out!
Great! I still plug it in every week because it's great.
"You probably heard the album when you where going through your emo phase"
I never had a emo phase and just discovered MCR like last month and all their songs are bops. I listened to them everyday now, they have consumed my existence now
sameeee
You have just entered the emo stage
I already had my emo phase, and two years later, I’m obsessed with MCR... so
@@annoyingposer Welcome back🤣
Omg me too!!!! I never thought about only emo kids listening to mcr lol. Mcr realy is just awesome!!
I never stopped listening to MCR. I still have all their albums on my phone
I loved this album! I remember being able to relate to bunkmates at camp over Welcome to the Black Parade, people who I never thought would share any interests with me.
I also want to show some love for Danger Days! My friends and I welcomed the change and tone. We really liked the direction MCR went with songs like Na Na Na and Planetary Go! The album still hypes me up and pumps me full of energy
You're doing god's work, This band really crafted my formative years. I was introduced to rock and roll through The doors and this was like a change that I wasn't excited about but just changed my life forever.
I was fortunate enough when I was a sophomore to go to their Black Parade tour in 2007 with two of my friends. It was a 5 hour concert with Taking Back Sunday and Rise Against. MCR played the entirety of Three Cheers and Black Parade from start to finish. One of the best nights of my life.
A friend in middle school was a fan from the first album, and I followed along. I was (still am) such a massive lover of MCR, and rode along with the album releases as they happened. It was pre-internet, so I didn't have the blessing of online fandom discourse, so it was just all contained in my heart. But it defined me. Truly. God bless that band.
You do know the internet existed in 2007 right. Fan forums were a thing.
@@bt3743 oh I know. I was on a bunch of forum sites for Harry Potter stuff. It just never crossed my mind to look for ones on bands.
Holy Shit!!! I went to that same tour!!!! I believe I went to the one at Nassau Coliseum in Long Island. I still listen to all three of them. I still go to every Taking Back Sunday concert in the NY/NJ area. TBS played their rendition of Umbrella at that concert right? And he took off a mask during Error Operator. I was a teen at the time and I remember some guy saying that Rise Against was a political band lol.
I would die to see that show holy shit
Sounds like an amazing show.
Because it’s a masterpiece and one of the best albums ever written. End of discussion
I never stopped listening to this album. I'm over 40. I remember working in LA the night KROQ played five or six songs from the album preceding it's release. I had to make returns in this box truck and I only had the radio to listen to. I was very excited about the the Black Parade because Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge had been in the CD player of my Jeep for FOUR MONTHS. It was how I got around town. Every trip anywhere in LA was like a 45 minute venture so that album just ran and ran. It was high octane and kept me energized through everything. So I was listening to the BP songs and they got me thinking instead of moving. And then Famous Last Words came on and my head exploded. That song got me through every possible hurt. It's a mantra. It's medicine. It's why I picked up my guitar again. It manages me and maneuvers me. I have a lot of favorite songs, but Famous Last Words is the flagship of favorite songs. The rest of the album takes care of me, I almost never listen to Teenagers, but Disenchantment has so much meaning, and This Is How I Disappear wraps me up. Famous Last Words may be the song I want played at my funeral. And I'm not dying.
They're still relevant because they are coming back together.
Also because us emo kids listen to them every day
This album is the Nevermind of its generation,
amazing and timeless lyrics
amazing instrumentals
very creative concept,
actual depth and thought put into it,
not afraid to be itself.
Ok but the black parade ain’t the only good My Chem album.
It’s the most iconic though in comparison to their other albums. Ngl I enjoy three cheers a bit more but the black parade was the most relatable, even when you’re not a cancer patient waiting to die in a hospital bed. Shits a mf rollercoaster
I'm not agree
Bullets wasn’t that good imo
They’re all good, but Wttbp is the most iconic
@@hehe4070 aww I liked bullets a lot wyd
that album is so iconic even my DAD listened to it before I even told him about it
I learned of these guys when I was seven. Yes I was seven. My sister listened to it and I quite liked it. Now I’m 14. And I still love it.
I will NEVER drop “emo” music, it is literally my religion
SAME, Emo kid for life 😎😎💔
Same here
Now that MCR is back, I’m staying true to my comment. I will never stop listening to “emo” music
I only listen to MCR now tbh. Most other emo bands just suck. In the words of Gerard Way: "Emo is fucking garbage".
Emo is forever!
Who still listen to MCR in 2019?
Ha ha I do that.
Turned 30 this year, and MCR is still one of my favorite bands.
@@AssassinLupus7 Turn 50 next year and... yeah... same.
Me 😍i still love Them 😍
Yep
It happened to me, I listened to this album for the first time in 2006 when I was 14... I couldn't understand english very well, yet I loved it. But I recently listened to it again after more than 10 years and I can't explain how I felt, I could feel every word of each song, I understood the concept within the whole album in a way I still don't know how to describe...I cried listening Famous Last Words at the end like it was the first time in my life I deeply asked to myself what death really meant and what my last words to my loved ones would be... It's been 2 years since that and I'm sure I will never get tired of it. Its strong message still touches me. I'm really happy to be alive to see them coming back. California 2019!
My dad was actually the one who introduced them to me, indirectly, but it was still him. He was listening to Teenagers one day when I was around seven or eight and at the time I found it humorous, so naturally, I wanted to listen to it more. When I asked what it was called he told me and for awhile it was the only song of theirs I listened to. Around age nine I delved deeper into them and other brands such as FOB and P!ATD, my depression started around then and between MCR's songs of death, Beebo's positiveness, and Patrick being Patrick, it really balanced things out and made life a bit more enjoyable. I still listen to them pretty often, my whole family does at times as well. MCR has impacted my mum, dad, and older sister in different ways, they are very important to us and many others. I just wish I could have gone to their comeback concert... They deserve a lot of love.
"You probably won't constantly listen to it"
Me, a killjoy: "Ummm…."
What's your Killjoy I.D.?
Nice
I feel attacked by this video title I literally listen to album everyday
Me to
Dude great video, cool to see the perspective of this album from someone younger, The Black Parade means the world to me, and in my memory I found it a few years after my mother's death, but your video Shocked Me with the album's actual release date, which means I found my mother's dead body from an OD @ age 21 and 11 months later the black parade came into my life, I was 22 then. And I needed that album, the perfect album for that time in my life. Total catharsis, It was a definitive album that I revisit often.
*I was born when this album came out, so I **_literally_** grew up listening to it*
CupvChino well no not at all, your 13 so you probably started listening to it at 9 or 10
@@TheSexhaver2625 my family loved MCR, especially my brother (who is 8 years older than me) and I was born in 2006, and have known about them and listened to them since around then. So yes, I grew up listening to it.
CupvChino that makes more sense, my bad for assuming
@@TheSexhaver2625 no probs!
Nate I need a video on The Used ASAP mate, bless us
I’ll also settle for Taking Back Sunday :^)
Yes to both
Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge is better. Prove me wrong.
Lowkey true
I disagree but understand and respect your decision
Theee Cheers, in my opinion, isn’t as consistently rememberable/catchy as TBP. Also, the concept is much less defined and harder to follow. And while TCFSR May be consistently darker/heavier, it doesn’t pack the same punch as the climaxes of “Mama” or “Sleep.” However, it’s still a fantastic album and one of my favorites.
They're equal, but yes, TCFSR is better... But TBP has songs with more meaning and emotion.
Yeh I think its better to 🖤💀
I watched this video about a year ago when it came out and got about half way through before I decided that I needed to listen to this album for the first time. I hadn't listened to any MCR besides Welcome to the Black Parade. Evidently when I listened to it for the first time, it rocked me. I had never heard anything so incredible in my life! As Gerard Way said, I did smile and I did cry. I was in England at the time visiting family for a few weeks and I must have listened to that album once or twice a day everyday for like 3 weeks. I've now listened to damn near every song by them and wish that I could erase my memory and listen to it all over again.
They’re back and I can’t wait to see what they sound like now.
Ok so basically,
All the MCR albums are like, to be played at a certain time of the year for me.
Three Cheers - Mid-Spring
The Black Parade - Christmas
Danger Days - Summer (danger days’ll always stick with me.)
Conventional Weapons - Mid-Spring
(All the mcr albums will always stick with me, but danger days and the black parade are the most memorable in my opinion lol)
Fandom Universe bruh what about I brought you my bullets?
My!ChemicalDiscotrash don’t murder me but I’m waiting to listen to it for when danger days turns 10. I feel like listening to their first album near their latest album’s birthday would be a good idea somehow. I’d say it’d be a thanksgiving thing though.
And bullets???
For me bullets it's perfect for the fall...
Good list, but Three Cheers is more of a Fall album for me.
So no Bullets love?
"how is the black parade still relevant"
But- that's revenge era gerard-
I liked that album much better to be honest haha
I'm going to watch this later but just came to see of anyone pointed that out haha
I listened to MCR since I was 6! It was awesome! Especially their song "Teenagers"
Loved your video. I am 56 and I own over 300 albums (on vinyl!), and The Black Parade is my very favorite.
“You probably discovered it as a young teen” the black parade was played to me when I was a baby
I wasn't even emo when I heard The Black Parade, my sister was, but it's the one album from that phase that we both really enjoy lol
also,,,, gerard way is a vampire and doesn’t die.... just like his music
From the day this album was released until today has saved my life every day. Thank you mcr we will forever love you
