- I've created the dumbest bots of all time and put them to the test by seeing who can survive the longest in 10 rounds of Mario and Sonic games.
The bots are controlled by a program I made that feeds them completely random inputs with no logic.

As someone who has no coding experience. I think it would be interesting to run AIs through each Mario and Sonic game until they became competent at them. Then, have them switch and swe who can survive the longest in each other's games.

I like the idea of two identical bots to see who survives the longest with the same exact strings of inputs, as well.
@@JigglesMcRibs That would still just be random nonsense that would depend entirely on which inputs get chosen. Having them both be learning algorithms trained on the other game is way more interesting. My bet is that the AI trained on Mario would win in Sonic, because the AI trained on Sonic would think you can just jump into enemies from the side to kill them in a Mario game, and also would think that you have infinite health as long as you keep collecting coins whereas the mario AI, particularly in 2D, would think it always has 1 health because there are very few "powerups" in Sonic that it could mistake for mushrooms. And honestly the barriers in earlier sonic games *would* act like mushrooms so it'd still work perfectly for him.
The health system was the main reason for this. Mario is usually one hit from death in 2D unless he finds a mushroom, which is basically impossible for a bot like this, whereas Sonic needs rings, which are literally everywhere. This means in 2D Sonic has a huge advantage. However in 3D Mario has a health bar instead while Sonic still relies on rings, so Mario has an advantage.

After Mario touched every element he could imagine, he finally got bored and decided to dumb down and let a bot control him for the day.

Considering that he used SADX on the Gamecube and not the original SA1 on the Dreamcast, he probably did SA2B for the Gamecube and not SA2 for the Dreamcast, and the Gamecube versions are INCREDIBLY broken, not 06 levels, but still very broken.

This has become one of my favorite channels.
I guess the message is that both series are great in their own way.
Truly a testament to the inexorable drift towards imminent self-destruction that all mortals trifle with throughout their existence, and it doesn't matter whether you are an Italian plumber or a blue hedgehog entity, in the end, it waits for us all equally.

The idea Darkflamecrusader came up with is really cool, but pretty hard. An easier idea I think would be cool would be to see this- except featuring other franchises, such as TLOZ or Metroid.

That wouldn't fix the imbalance caused by Sonic's more generous health system. Sonic's levels are a lot longer, so that might give Mario a better chance, but I'm not sure it would be enough.

@@miwer1000 I just realized that 3D Mario levels may be too hard to judge, especially Mario 64. There are multiple endings to the levels.

Probably because of the health systems. In 2D, Mario only has one hit point, while in the 3D games he has multiple.
Well, Sonic did have a rough transition into 3D

My personal answer would be it depends on the situation.
In a situation where there is actually a threat, Sonic would do better. (I actually had some roleplaying AIs in a group room, and I included a villain that would have no qualms about killing someone. Mario pretty much instantly died. I had to nudge Link and Sonic (yes, I had all three) to save Mario before he actually got killed. Sonic survived the villain if I gave him a few nudges on what he could do.)
If it's a race, Sonic wins, especially if he's allowed to use his full speed (looking at you, Olympic committy. His speed was handicapped in Mario and Sonic at the Olympics.)
If it's a swimming competition, Mario wins, unless Sonic has a life jacket, in which case he stands a chance.
I could see Mario winning a hammer throw. He's tossed Bowser around many a time.
If it's who's the more family friendly series, I'd have to give that one to Mario.
So, once again, it depends.
The tiebreaker should be Mario Kart 8 Deluxe vs Team Sonic Racing

Less the 2D Sonic games hold your hand a lot, and more The 2D Mario games have you start off at 1 hit away from death, and getting more hits away from death is much more complicated than in Sonic Games.
Results are Mario is better in 3D, while Sonic is better in 2D.

Idea: get a bot who is great at Mario and one that is great at sonic, and put them in the wrong games. Sonic bot goes to Mario, Mario bot goes to sonic. Make sure they both go to the original game.

It would be worse for Sonic games. The speed at which the games operate simply does not work without precise inputs, not to mention the much more complex level designs.
Many people know that Mario 2 was actually called Doki Doki Panic in Japan, because the original Mario Bros 2 was considered too hard for the Western video game market.
However, a fact that is less well known is that Sonic 2 was actually called Blue Harvest, which is actually also the working title of the original Star Wars movie.

Conclusion: Mario's Strength Area is the 3D Worlds, meanwhile Sonic is the Best at the 2D Areas, but if they both compete with their respective strengths, Mario's strength will be stronger.
