- I created a tutorial for this plane back in 1.51 and, lets be frank, it was an absolute dog. But no longer! This guide shows how to get the most out of the all-new XP-55, and how to defeat it if you're flying against one.

I didn't ever regret buying the plane. Really I only got it because it was unique, so I was going to get it eventually, but the event they had a few months back landed me a 75% off so I completed a few Gold Wagers to earn enough premium and picked it up. I still enjoyed it, even when it couldn't turn, as it had speed and energy retention then, too, you just couldn't get guns on target properly. The only time I lost it though was usually because I held on for too long shooting at someone who was too low, and couldn't pull up in time.
As it is now, though... it's just so smooth! I love it! Even if it is broken.
well that explains a lot. I had the misfortune of finding out the hard way how much better this plane has gotten. first hand, and sadly, more than once. thanks for the update. I was sure I was running into either a WT God or some major shenanigans.
I went up against one of these yesterday, in my German turncoat P47, in RB. The guy murdered everyone on my team, including me. I thought the guy was cheating, I'm sad to say. Now I see what it really was.
+korgeth Nice to know ahead of time this thing is a clubber. Now we can concentrate on them if we see them.
Really nice valley fighting, that's how to get kills fast and safe.

I have not seen a flatspin so hilariously bad ever since I tried to do a snaproll in the Spitfire Mk.1a when its FM was slightly borked...
+Mattac0n I'll see your spitfire, and raise you the line of P400-like planes, aerocobra and king cobras because of all the flat spinning they'd do and the fact they are shell gas stations with a propeller and unaimable cannon.
+Kurt Bennett I totally forgot about turning those planes into tornadoes given how broken (*in a bad way) their spiral stability really is now.
+Mattac0n You can snaproll the Spit Mk 16 and get a spin. You also used to be able to spin the Ki-61 Otsu, but they nerfed the roll rate hard and now it's impossible.

I'd like to see the P-47 act like this plane AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, that would a JOKE. Can you imagine that lumbering old bird outturning a Spitfire, out diving anything, hugging terrain so that nothing can get it, retaining energy as if it were constipated and being able to loop so fast that a biplane would be spooked? And even better, if it rolled as fast as an He-51 xD
I guarantee that this is a scheme to boost sales. fix a bad plane and make it broken powerful so people buy it on a sale then nerf a little time after.

+fox inuasha you might be right there, only time will tell, i bought it at the anneversary sale, but havnt gotten around to flying it yet. i guess i'll spped that process up. But only time will tell if this will indeed pan out the way you describe it :)
+Jengar its become almost a common grimy practice for freemium games like these.
of the top of my head, Hi-Rez before they were fully dedicated to Smite used this tactic in Tribes Ascend. Each patch was a broken weapon and then nerfed a month later.
How to fly the xp- 55. Easily, I think is the best way to describe it.
I got the xp-55 for an hour on my daily login bonus yesterday. With a completely fresh crew lacking any skill what so ever and only this plane queued up for battle I proceeded to roflstomp everything for three games. So it would seem it is still horrendously broken. If only it wasn't 3900GE....
Pulled this out of the closet today for a spin, and... yeah, it's totally broken.

get the upgrades and it is a beast, end of guide.
my old reply would have been 'get a ki-43-III' but 1.55 killed that plane, so ill change it to 'get a J7W1 instead'
for some reason the stock grind feels too painful on this plane for me to ever play it as it relies on climb rate to survive, which requires you to get the engine injection upgrade(much like how the j7w1 needs engine injection and ammo belts upgrades) but it does not seem to be worth it when compared to the competition of it's br, being the j7w and the j2m's.
The good news is that a lot of very bad pilots are flocking to this plane (and many other American clubbers) for the seal clubbing actions. I've fought many of these "premium" American pilots and they have no idea how to do proper energy fighting, and so they are hilarious kills.
+zxbc And the pity of it is, those pilots will suppress the statistics and keep the BR low :\
I realize this would be increasing your workload/prep for videos, but, did you consider testing the impact of flaps with the canard design? I seem to remember there being a marked difference in the way flaps make such airframes perform, if they have 'em at all.
+jamespfp They have flaps, yes, but I don't see a huge difference. The turning circle's a little smaller, but the turning time is the same reflecting a loss of speed but not a gain in turning ability. Hence I'd use combat flaps at the top of a loop or immelman if a tight turn is required, possibly along with a cut in throttle, and also if I've got guns on a target in a deflection shot & they're moving across my sights, as the flaps may help hold the aim a little longer. Otherwise I prefer to keep the plane fast.
+long5hot How about on landing/takeoff? I'm thinking avoiding a nasty surprise if the plane pitches in the reverse direction than anticipated, though mouse-aim tends to correct for that kind of thing.

+Zhafrie Zahed J7W1 is coming next (stock survival guide), and while it has similarities with the XP-55 its certainly not the same. Unfortunately it can't out-turn Spitfires ;)

Did they change some aspects of the flightmodel in one of the last mini-patches? For a couple of days I notice a strong wiggle or shake of the rudder. It's kind of annoying experience
I think its good for a premium because premium are to help you get silver lions.
So... you say this is a side effect of a general change to the modeling of canards?

Interesting that a snap roll put it into a spin, I had the same issue in the Mig 3-34 last night! Is this a growing issue? I mothballed my corsair's because of this problem.
+llmari Yes the MiG-3-34 has it now, and so does the P-40. The Corsairs are fine, they were fixed a couple of patches back.
Various Spitfires have had it, not sure if they still do, the Airacobras were prone to it & last I checked the P-400 could flat-spin, and the first version of the Ki-43-III was quite bad as well. The problem's been around for quite some time and just moves from plane to plane.
The canard fighters were however known for their instability, so it wouldn't surprise me if this behaviour was actually accurate for them - and it certainly doesn't hurt for this plane to have a weakness.

long5hot -that is exactly how I got my xp 55. I learned to fly it when the handling resembled a clumsy attacker. now, it's kind of easy mode. eventually stopped flying it because I felt bad.

+blaster1 112 Yeah I wouldn't recommend buying it, unless maybe its on a 50% sale - and that's because the plane in its current form either has a broken FM which will be nerfed sooner or later, or its BR will be kicked upstairs over 4.0. Possibly both :)
+long5hot I would count on both. Gaijin has a habit of breaking a vehicles FM or ammo and giving it a BR raise at the same time.
They do the same with GF ( such as the M26 Pershing) which was given a 6.7 BR due to its HVAP ammo, and then HVAP ammo was basically changed to be useless against slopes so the BR adjustment was for naught. Even though the Pershing still its at the same 6.7 BR today for some unknown reason.
This shit is broken sorry but if i'm not mistake thats a TiR 2 plane 800 IAS and i'ts not in the fucking red wtf and he keep hes speed after all those turns ?!?!?!? i can't do that in my 6.0 BR planes -.-

Hello. I have a suggestion or a plea rather. Why dont you create a video on how the entire USA tree above 4,0 sucks balls. Starting form the useless Mustangs,to the most useless fighter in the game the F8F-1. Apparently Gaijin forces you to play only bombers or dive bombers when using USA br above 4,0(both in arcade and realistic). You have limited airplanes like the twin mustang and the F4U-1c. The only two viable high br aircrafts are the f8f-1b and the f7f.
+gugi233 Is the F7F viable? I thought it was so far overtiered as to be unflyable. I do have footage recorded for a stock survival vid on the F8F-1, just need to find the time to narrate & edit it.
Umm that is certainly not true, from my experience the F8F-1 is a super effective fighter since the switch from M3 to M2 .50 cals. It has less burst mass but far less sparking and much more reliable damage output.
+JingleBaby Both in arcade and Realistic? IMO the P-51D aswell as the P-38's are viable US fighters above 4.0 when it comes to Realistic. I don't see the issue with them. I might even say the P-63's can be flown above 4.0 quite easily, as they're already quite under-tiered.
+James V. D. Bosch Yes, in both arcade and realistic, and I agree with your opinion on the P-38's and P-63's.
+gugi233 I loved the Twinstang and Cannonsair both, actually, and HATED the Tigercat. The first Bearcat, so long as you don't fly it like a typical US aircraft, does a fine job, though the stock grind is horrible like all of tier IV.
The F-82, once you unlock the gunpod, becomes the undisputed king of apply-directly-to-forehead. My personal best is five kills in one pass; the rage from 190 pilots who never learned anything except how to derp into head-ons warms my black little heart. Yeah, you have to fly it like every other heavy fighter and never ever turn, but it climbs well and it's so damned fast that maneuverability is kind of irrelevant.
The F4U-1c was the first US plane I really felt could compete with everyone else in terms of firepower (this was back before US .50 cals got buffed), and anytime I'm flying a 5.0ish lineup I'll tend to throw it in, along with the Superbolt, as one of my headhunters: if someone takes me out with a cheap shot or RNGs me to death, I'll hop into it and just kill them over and over and over again. The with recent buff to Corsair FMs, they've gotten even better to fly. They've always been, barring rudder bugs, adequate flight models, but after 1.53 they're total sweethearts.
The F7F would be an amazing heavy fighter... at 5.7. As it is, I've found myself fighting Sabres and La-15s with alarming regularity, and taking a plane that relies totally on speed for survival is pointless when you're flying against opponents 300+ kph faster than you are. Spading the Tigercat is far and away the most miserable experience I've ever had in WT air battles... or was, up until the new P-38s, anyway.

Unfortunate the game is going this way, this is pure Pay to Win territory. The sad thing is it works... I'm sure these XP-55s will be flying off the shelves.
+wiz4rd I dunno. Given the XP-55 has been expensive and _bad_ for the overwhelming majority of its existence, pointing to it as proof of Pay-To-Win at this point strikes me as a bit premature.
I'm more inclined to think the current situation is just a fluke, due to the fact that the ratings haven't caught up with the FM change. If it's still clubbing like this in 6 months, then I'll be more inclined to agree.
Nah I have a hard time believing it'll stay that way. If I know a company like Gaijin they likely do this on purpose to create a buzz about this premium to get more people buying it, then a few months they'll nerf it back to a more reasonable level (without saying anything about it in patch notes of course)
Besides, it's just an American plane. For the time being just fly out your Russian fighters against them to even the scales
+Sikaidus Akari Except there aren't any Russian planes with equivalent dive speed & high speed handling along with better-than-spitfire turnrate. The XP-55 outperforms everything in its BR range in everything except climbrate, in which it is only surpassed by Bf109s, Spitfires, Ki-44s and the XP-50.
