Facts. He constantly says during the fight to give back Gohan. He stood up against someone who was way more powerful than him, and gave his life, just to save his son.
He sacrificed himself twice for his son, broke the rules of the afterlife for his son, never forced anything upon his son unless it was for his son’s own well-being, trusted in his son, took accountability for his and his son’s mistakes, supported his son through thick and thin, took pride in his son’s achievements, spent time with his son whenever he had the chance, made sure his son was safe no matter what, despised seeing his son be hurt and did everything in his power to minimize the damage, and did everything to make sure his son grew up to be a good child. He wasn’t the best father, sure, but when you’re the literal guardian of Earth, this is more than enough to be a very good father.
I will also add that he always stayed close to Chichi unless he felt the need to be away for a while (like when I went off to train Uub to pass the baton). He was not a perfect husband, but he respected his wife's opinions far more than Vegeta did for a while. Goku became a farmer while Vegeta never bothered to find a job despite Bulma complaining about it to Gohan.
Their only argument is that super dumbed down Goku to being a "bad father" and even if that's true he still had some moments with Gohan in dbs so idk why they even say that. And don't even get me started on the senzu bean situation???? He legit knew Gohan would turn into himhan and what would he get from fighting a weakened cell? That's right he WOULDN'T GET SHIT like wtf is this logic. Goku went out of his way to give Bojack the heavenly fade. I don't get it??? This is actually so stupid. He SACRIFICED HIMSELF TWICE HOW IS THIS BAD FATHER MENTALITY??? I'm beginning to think dbz fans did not watch the show and don't know what "sacrifice" means like goddamn this is the worst damn debate in dragon ball history.
@@PoorlyDrawnGoldenTeeth I 100 percent agree people who say goku is a bad father don't know the show at all sadly nowadays people don't pay attention to the family moments in the show that really matters if they would watch the those moments and pay attention to the those moment's they would understand Goku saved krillen and gohan from nappa he fights vegeta technically had to transform into a great ape to beat a beat in up goku plus saved earth and the universe from frieza dbz fans now what there talking about it's sad
When did he die twice for Gohan? I haven’t seen Z since I was a kid and the series was never interesting enough for me to rewatch. But when he died fighting Raditz that wasn’t just for Gohan wasn’t it? Raditz taking Gohan was the catalyst for the fight but I thought him dying was just the only way to beat Radtiz and get rid of the threat. As for with Cell that also wasn’t just for Gohan, that was for the Planet. Also the whole reason they were in the predicament with Cell was because of him anyways. I feel like people see Piccolo more positively as a father figure because he actually involved with Gohan and his sacrifice is more blatant. Piccolo never had to sacrifice himself for Naapa. As an audience we know Piccolo is seemingly more important than Gohan but he gave his life anyways. Piccolo even got a whole character arc and got closer to Gohan. Meanwhile Goku doesn’t really get something that huge. Then later on Piccolo trains with Gohan in modern Dragonball, talks to Gohan, watched his child and then even trained with her a bit. Meanwhile Goku is always off even in his spare time just fighting some more. But Goku just is the type of guy to love fighting and values it more than being at home and with his family.
An underrated part of Goku as a father, that I dont think is brought up alot, is his supportiveness of Gohan’s desire to be a scholar despite knowing his potential as a fighter.
Thats what a good parent does.Supports thier kid no matter what they want to do in life and Goku always encouraged him to be a scholar as he got older. He knows Gohans potential but he didnt force the fighting life onto him. If anything Gohan trained to protect his family and friends out of respect for his dad at times. Sure he got soft after the 7 year timeskip till the Buu Saga. But hey no threats were around during that time so of course he took it easy and lived his life and occasionally sparred with his little Brother Goten.
@@PhilPhantomZSaber😑 The point kap made isn't whether Goku's a good or bad father, it's the fact that his sons' love doesn't prove that. Humans are known for loving abusive people. Well Goku isn’t a hero but he is a good guy, if he sees you or I in direct danger he’ll save us but he won’t ever go out of his way to save someone halfway across the planet just cause its the right thing to do like a hero would.
@@tnmblonewolf8799 I mean just because he isn't actively being Super-Man doesn't discount him from being a hero. He's actively defending Earth and putting his life on the line for others. That's what a hero is.
This version of goku in dbz is actually a pretty deep guy. He isn’t so emotionless as they peg him to be. He values family and friendships just as much as martial arts. Outside of being a saiyan I think he realizes that martial art has brought him a whole circle of friends and family he didn’t have when he was alone as a child.
for real man, super potrays goku as someone with barely human feelings. he just fights people and stays on beerus' planet. he is never shown to be spending time with his friends and family. he didn't even attend the birthday party of his very first friend who showed and took him around the world, and because of her he doesn't live alone anymore; he's made so many friends, learned from many teachers and has a family of his own. even toriyama says that goku is a saiyan who only cares about fighting, training and eating. honestly with the way goku is now, i sometimes doubt/wonder if his family even likes him anymore and/or has mixed feelings for him
@@weirdface1846what? goku is shown spending time with goten at the beginning of the series and throughout the show. he didnt attend the birthday part sure, but post majin buu saga goku also hadnt visited bulma in five years in favor of training, so how is he any different?
@@superubergoober hm i had not thought about that, krillin also says how goku trains but doesn't visit anymore. the difference is that goku not being there with his family in z is because it's circumstancial. he's always either dead or on another planet. at the beginning of z he was with gohan chi chi and ox king for 5 years, and three years with gohan prior to the androids arrival. while super goku is just like "oh parties? sure i could attend, but nah imma train bruh" of course. end of z goku also did the same thing... but what i mean is he's mostly on beerus' planet (and so is vegeta). he's choosing to be there rather than being forced to be unavailable. in super, goku barely cared that he has a granddaughter and he just ran to beerus planet while in end of z, he was shown to be training pan and had a close bond with her also if you say that he is shown to be with goten, i just feel like that happens offscreen mostly and when we see the story going on, he just goes to some planet or something. but i think you're right, he does spend time with goten, since goten loves goku unconditionally, which means goku and goten had father son moment and bonding in the 4 year timeskip. but regardless, i just feel like super goku doesn't hang out with his friends and family than z goku does. he just had that one scene where he didn't see bulma and others for 5 years, but that happens during when dbs happens, and that line will probably be retconned
@@weirdface1846 well you could say z goku's absences are circumstancial, but super takes place within a few years, goku is almost constantly fighting some new threat, not to mention beerus. i do find it interesting you mention goku training with gohan though, as super goku shows a much better understanding of him. it was always weird to me that goku was fine with letting gohan fight buu, not even bringing up his dislike of fighting. whereas super goku apologizes when he had to fight. at the end of the day, toriyama always meant to portray goku as someone who is so pure in his desire to grow as a martial artist that he can be oblivious to everything else. looking at all the different media for dragonball (dubs, games, translations, etc) and seeing all the ways goku has been personified is quite unique. i do think z goku and super goku are more similar than people make them out to be, but everyone sees them in their own eyes so whatever. anyway, see you around, have a good day
@@superubergoober while it is true that goku is fighting threats in super too, im not gonna deny that, but it's not always immediately after the previous threat. when there's peace, he is on beerus' planet (but that also proves beneficial, as goku unlocked ssb which helped against golden frieza and top). in z, he was on earth training with gohan and piccolo before androids came during times of peace. as for understanding gohan, i think you're right, and it was sweet of goku to understand his son. also in super anime, goku is fine with gohan not fighting at the universe 6 tournament because he's busy being a scholar, and goku's like "no worries, its alright, studying is important too" which was really nice. he did let gohan fight buu but he hand his hands full with majin vegeta. i honestly think goku is one of those types of people who are "wants to spend time but too busy". many parents or friends can't make time for their loved ones because they're too busy. goku, as a martial artist is also busy training and improving, he is a fighter, a saiyan. but i don't believe that to be true. i don't think goku is so busy training that he can't make time, nor that he doesn't wanna. it's most likely just, as you said, so pure on pushing himself that he doesn't even realise he's not giving time to his friends and family. but i think he is, he is balancing both personal life and training life. there are different times for that. i just wish we got to see more moments of goku with his friends and family. he is with them, but only offscreen which gives people the wrong idea that goku doesn't give no shit about anyone, but that couldn't be further from the truth. i may have been wrong. again i wish we got to see more goku's normal life moments with the people he's close with. regardless, see you and i hope you have a good day too
@@beanik835The funny thing is, none of that happened in the manga. Hell, Gohan's Super Saiyan transformation was just him powering up while being angry. Super threw out most of the content created by the anime, and used the manga as it's basis

For a man who’s the main guardian of an entire planet, from a race of people not usually meant to care for their kids much at all. I’d say he did a damn good job.
“He’s not a fighter like you, do you want to know what he’s thinking? He’s not thinking about strength or competition. He’s wondering why his fathers is standing there letting him die” was a goated line 😭
also the scene in the time chamber gohan is actively seeking a fight with goku when trying to become a super saiyan. saying that he doesnt need rest, saying goku needs to be serious. this scene is what gave goku the impression that gohan was like him even tho he wasnt
I Never realized how often Goku calls Gohan Champ, or says things like “I’m proud of you.” DBZA has kinda overwritten most of the English dub in my head
Exactly the reason why i kinda hate it as a db parody Its funny and a fun watch but it also became so big that it rewrites people's view on db despite alot of the jokes are over exaggerated Also people use dbza as facts and not watch the og and will never listen to reasoning because it doesnt fit their view And it really shows how much they hate goku despite the show being mostly about him and dragon balls
@@zaidkapadia6824 as much as it is ignoring that people do take it seriously is dumb People that think that the abridge is closer to the canon do exist and just saying their fictional doesn't mean anything Example: People will still love war hammer 40k despite having rough details and will still argue that their universe' marines would reck other sci fi marines With that being said because the abridge stained people's perception of the original dragon ball in ways such as goku being the worst father, vegeta being leagues better father than goku, goku being shit to his family, goku ignoring gohan's dreams and hobbies, piccolo being the better father without fault, chi chi being a nag or worst, gohan disliking fighting and such Although as what i previously said I'm only a little annoyed at dba being the parody version because it became very big and saying that its fictional and ignoring people's passion and the fact that it changes people's perception and opinion of the original db is dumb
Like, nappa in dragon ball abridged is fucking hilarious, but in the anime he is the guy who killed half of the z fighters. But the abridged version is so more liked that people think that nappa its just a dumb strong guy, and he shouldnt appear in the games and give space to other characters

Fucking hell, you people are actually allowed to procreate and that's frieghtening.
The fact gohan had to force goku to actually fight him in the cell saga shows he cares. Goku was more willing to go easy on his son in fear of hurting him and risk the earth being destroyed
Hindsight’s 20/20 for TFS. They regret a LOT of their early choices, but unfortunately they couldn’t get those back and ultimately tried their best in the end to fix their mistake
Unfortunately i was also one of them, not until i read the manga. Its when i realized people should actually take their warning "This is a fan based PARODY" seriously.
Not even thinking about whether or not Goku's a good dad, this video just reminded me of how much I miss how Goku used to be written and we're probably never getting that back.
Yeah I really miss dbz goku, and in general the writing from dbz. A lot of what we see in super is purely fan service and filler rather than genuine characterization of the cast we appreciate so dearly. Maybe in the new show as opposed to introducing all these new forms and enemies, they can focus on giving us some more introspective on the characters. I would really love to see that and genuinely wouldn’t complain at all.
Considering Goku grew up as a Saiyan in the wilderness with fighting as his primary education, he has adapted remarkably well to life on Earth. He's not perfect but dammit Goku is not a bad dad. I would argue he's a great dad. Pay attention to those lessons he impacts on Gohan. He trains his son to defend himself, teaches him how to be persistent and work hard the right way, he teaches Gohan to believe in himself, to enjoy the small moments and so much more. Goku is also highly supportive of what Gohan wants to do in life and doesn't look down on him because he wants to be a scholar. A lot of people would wish they could have a present father like Goku.
If anything, people should get mad at how much Goku is owed by everyone. Goku took out the RR, singlehandedly as a kid and wasn't given any kind of reward for saving the world. Then he took out Demon King Piccolo and gang, after they started killing fighters and publicly threaten the world. After, he fought Piccolo Jr. at the WMAT live to the whole world, because Protector of Earth Kami wasn't capable, and apparently neither the WG or Kami could give Goku other than the Prize money he won. Gokus been cheated several times by the Ox King who only sends money, instead of giving Goku some farming land/farmers so he can be self sustainable with his family. Why doesn't King Kai help Goku find space plants or valuables, knowing how difficult it is to keep a Saiyan and support one, let alone a family that constantly helped him solve his problems (Frieza, Cell, Buu). In Super, Ox King can't afford to help, so Goku has to start farming, which he could've already been doing. Hercule&Bulma, neither have helped Goku repair his home, get better amenities, cover his purchases, or give him some extra cash for the countless times he's saved them and the world, and Gokus the reason why Vegeta survived the first encounter that led to Bulma getting married. The literal King of the Universe saw Goku fight for their universe, and didn't send him anything as thanks! Goku is the most shafted MC in anime
Nah I think it'd rather have a dad that didn't put the weight of the galaxy on my shoulders at 10 years old and just leaves his family to train for months or years at a time.
@afrofriend9140 all these things youve listed are things 95% of the fathers wouldve done if they were in gokus shoes, goku isnt retarded he just lacks societal norms yet he never tried to apply himself for his family (during the time he was alive) nor did he ask mr satan if he could help out with money since he took credit for killing cell, he tried to bribe the elder kai in the buu saga with gohans girlfriend, talking more with gohan/goten from the afterlife clearly wouldnt have been a problem considering the things hes done for the universe also gohan wants to be a scholar? gohan doesnt even know himself what he wants thats why everyone else tells him what he wants (chichi: a scholar, goku/piccolo: a fighter etc.) the final straw that broke gohans back to reach SSJ2 was seeing the head of an android getting crushed by cell - the android he has never spoken to or seen before and not the friends/family he knew since years getting beat up
The difference is Piccolo cares about Gohan's well being that he disregards Gohan's ability to fight Cell, but Goku actually believes in his son and thought he was destined to do great things. That's a trait of a good father to me, if you don't believe in your own son that just makes you a bad parent, Goku cares alot about Gohan too and obviously he doesn't want him to get hurt but Gohan is literally the only one who can fight Cell in that arc because of his hidden potential.
Piccolo disregarded Gohan’s fighting ability because he didn’t spend a year in the time chamber with a super Saiyan Gohan. He didn’t see Gohan nearly ascend to the next level like Goku. Vegeta figured Gohan had great power due to Gohan being natural in his Super Saiyan state. But Piccolo looked at Gohan as a child even though Gohan was stronger than him at that point.
@SRT_DRE That's not true, listen to what Piccolo says to Goku while cell is torturing him again. Don't hate on Piccolo just because you're mad about people criticizing Goku
@SRT_DRE Here's the thing........ In a way Piccolo was right: Gohan doesn't not like fighting but Goku was right too because he spent a year with his son training and he knew that Gohan was the only person who could defeat Cell and save the world Both Piccolo and Goku were right in that situation
@@Snailshroom No one is hating on piccolo as we all know that goku should have been a little more vocal about his actual plan to defeat cell as this is the only reason as to why gohan found and felt himself as truly alone in the battlefield but that was an ultimatum either way as literally each of the z fighter was surprised at gohan's strength when he came on to fight as a super saiyan so goku still wasn't wrong in his belief. Piccolo literally did the same thing that too with a 4 year old gohan who was kept sheltered even by his own parents just because of the urgency of the situation. Funny thing is in the end they both have to sacrifice themselves for that love to protect gohan while further playing their part in the character development of gohan and the whole relation dynamic as we saw him growing up from a mere child to an adult.
12:06 I actually love how you even include the part of Goku's mistake of throwing Gohan to Cell so carresly and Piccolo scolding Goku for it. While this is one of the worst mistakes Goku did in DBZ this is also pretty understandable if you think about how Goku was like growing up, he thought Gohan needed to experience similar things he did so Gohan could get stronger. And I'm glad how Goku realized his mistake and tried to sacrifice himself to save them instead of pushing Gohan again
@@michaelw2797 he fell down from a cliff when he was a kid after Old Man Gohan found him from the wild and he hit his head in the rock pretty hard. his violent nature was gone after that and he became a very good kid ever since.
Honestly, immensly good parenting on gokus part when hes consoling gohan on namek after his beating from recoome, staying perfectly calm and assuring him that he'll be alright, since he knows the senzu beans can fix it
I think the scene with him right after turning super saiyan is heavily underrated. It’s incredibly rare that we ever see goku act or even acknowledge his authority, in general. And it’s genuinely important as a parent to establish/maintain that level of authority with your children, or else they’ll start to act off and potentially put themselves at risk. Not to mention, the fact that in this moment goku is surging with the most power he’s ever had, and rather than using that power as leverage and threatening gohan, the only reason he gives to listen to him is “i’m your father.” Which signals that it’s still goku that’s firmly in control and capable to act rationally in a state that could potentially be dangerous to others if he couldn’t
@user-qd5lb7qr8z actually adhering to authority is called being a cuck. If authority is what's stopping someone from doing bad things then they have some fundamental issues.

Bojack is the only movie before Battle of Gods to not contradict canon material, and filler is... Questionable in terms of how much or how little of it can be considered a legitimate part of his character. Nevermind dubs making Goku like Superman in Z. He's not the best father, rarely anyone is. He's a good father and not a bad one. Go and ponder that for a moment. For someone with his upbringing and race id argue he's an amazing father!
But people will change the context of every one of these scenes and remove Goku weeping and breaking reality for his son multiple times so they can feed the narrative that Goku’s a bad dad. They blame themselves too and want to say that while the joke was funny for the parody, it ruined the way fans view the franchise because Abridged Only people exist. The ones who jump in, miss a lot of context and then argue with their entire chests about plots and characterisations only to be wrong on several fronts because they had seen a comedic parody made into a love letter to a franchise that meant so much to those involved with it (to the point even Chris Sabat and Kyle Hebert got involved) and not the actual source materials.

That is not okay by our "Western Standards." I prefer "human standards."
You can tell Goku is a good dad by his first meeting with Goten. He made Gohan the team captain of universe 7 simply because he acknowledged his strength and believed in him. He also accidentally put the world in more peril simply because he wanted Goten and Trunks to be able to save the world because he knew he wouldn't always be around.

9:18 is one of my favorite moments in dragonball period. Just the ambience of the scene and Goku’s delivery really hammers home what the stakes are and how he feels in the moment. I knew Goku was never really a bad dad, sure he does do some questionable things, but you also gotta remember that he was raised in the wild as a sayan. No one’s perfect, but you can tell that he’s trying his best with this line. I like super a lot, but I wish Goku was this mature more often in it, especially in the tournament of power arc.
Also, people forget that compared to Saiyan nature, Goku is actually one of the best fathers out there. Paragus used his son just to inflate his ego and get revenge. Same with Vegeta with Future/Present trunks and didn't give a shit about the former until he was bleeding out and dying to cell and present timeline trunks until he had to sacrifice himself against buu, and even then, he stated he never hugged his son at all or even took notice of him. Unlike Goku, who he actually spent four years with gohan before Raditz' arrival, and hugged goten for the first time. Vegeta was a terrible parent throughout the entirety of Z. Bardock himself was a deadbeat as in games it was implied that Bardock didn't care much about Raditz and blatantly favored Goku. In the DBS manga, Bardock never even saw Goku until frieza literally blew up his planet. In Z, he couldn't care less about Goku until future sight made him see goku confronting Frieza. King Vegeta was a shit parent to Tarble and sent his son away because he was disgusted with his level of power like Vegeta. These Goku is terrible dad arguments are so pathetically bad to downright laughable when put under scrutiny. These people think Vegeta was a good dad when he didn't care about his future and present timeline son until GT and DBS and towards the end of Z. They just hyperfocus on goku and think he's a terrible parent when they ignore the other characters' flaws because it's much easier to plug your ears and headcanon bullshit into what they think instead of what is shown on screen or page. It's much easier to not admit your favorite character has any flaws
In my opinion Goku has been one of the best examples of underserved slandering. The image of him is loved and inspired by all has been tarnished in recent years when literally jokes are being taken as facts. Butchering everything we loved about him and making it out to be a mockery. There are characters who are outright horrendous at times and unlikable (even if they're heroes) to where I'm wondering why do people gives these selfish characters a pass to do what they want yet Goku gets slandered for literally dying. And not to mention both times were to save his son. Goku may love battle and he may like to train he is also a lovable goofball, but to just make him out to be a literal manchild who can't take responsibility or saying he isn't good to his family is outrageous.
@@shawerful5209 yeah I agree. Dragon Ball Abridged did it's thing as a very fun project to show a humorous side to Dragon Ball, but I think people grew to view the parody's narratives as evidence or facts and projected it onto the actual canon series where hardly any of it was true. If anything

"PiCcOlO iS A BeTtEr DaD THaN GokU!" bro he literally kidnaped him at 4 years old and left him alone in the wild to defend himself. And he didn't to it because he wanted to spend good quality time with Gohan, he did it because of two saiyans were about to destroy the earth and needed all the man power to defeat them. At the end of Z and throughout Super yeah, he is very much like an uncle to Gohan, But he's never done anything father-like stuff with Gohan.
look its simple, we don't know actually know if we're or somebody is a good father since people do good things but they also make mistakes. what we do is not be a good father but actually try to be one. piccolo and goku did that too, they made mistakes but they were also always there for gohan. my point is, neither goku nor piccolo are perfect (if you wanna debate who is a better father). they both are living beings, they make mistakes but that doesn't make them terrible at anything. i don't consider piccolo gohan's dad or anything, im just saying that, again both piccolo and goku have flaws. but so does everyone, fictional or not. that's just a fact of life
Bro, whenever I see someone call Goku a terrible dad I have to remind them that the man literally came back from the death twice and spends time with his sons, there are dads out there who don’t even come back with the milk, those are real bad dads 💀

Protecting him? Maybe I watched a different fight between Gohan and Cell, where Goku didn't take the full time available to him in the Room of Spirit and Time, and indeed could have trained with Vegeta to obviously be far ahead of where he was. The LITERAL subtext of the Cell Saga was Gohan VS the mistakes of HIS FATHER!!
@@nathanstruble2177 gohan when he left the time chamber was already stronger than goku, and goku made a point that too much training would do nothing to increase his strength, vegeta trained another year after in the time chamber and still couldn’t catch up to goku, everything goku did in the fight vs cell was because he knew gohans potential better than everyone else and knew what to do to push him to unlock ssj2 he wouldn’t have done that if he didn’t think gohan was their only hope of winning
Some of these moments can drive a grown man to tears. When you pay close attention to Goku and Gohan's relationship, you can see they care for each other immensely. A father who supports his son and would fight tooth and nail for him while simultaneously owning up to his and his son's mistakes is very commendable. And a son who listens to his father while trying to uphold his good values and improve upon them is a bond that nothing can break. This Father-Son Duo is probably one of the most inspiring and powerful bonds in media. I really appreciate how well the two blend together when the chips are down.
I guess people forgot that goku used to be alone in a short time after his grandpa gohan's death. Dude was still a kid, and he already surviving alone in the human world. That's one of the reasons why goku never used to taking care of his children even when we know he clearly love them. He doesn't know what it feels like to have a dad, let alone be one. I don't blame goku for that.
People constantly bring up the Cell Saga Senzu bean arc as if that shit ruins Goku's entire character but conveniently forget Vegeta's stupid overconfident ass is the one that let Cell reach perfect in the first place by stopping Trunks. People only remember Krillin refusing to blow her up, but if Vegeta didn't fuck around SS Trunks was already about to annihilate Semi Perfect Cell.
As much of a masterpiece DBZA was, it rotted a LOT of people's brains when it came to Goku's relationship with his son. Even Curtis (Takahata101, one of the lead writers of DBZA) said Goku, while imperfect, was a wonderful dad, and HE'S the one who pushed for those jokes to be made in the first place. Goku was ANYTHING but an uncaring neglectful father.
@@tarnw3301 Ignoring gohan mostly. That's just how he was written by TFS. Gohan constantly shows that he has issues with Goku not being there for him, complaining about Krillin & Bulma but saying "At least they're around!", then not hesitating to beat the shit out of Ginyu possessing Goku's body because he had major abandonment issues. Then the first time Gohan saw Goku in years since Namek, the first thing he does is tell Gohan "Imma go talk to this guy (Trunks)" and brushing off his protests by saying "Yeah cool". The only real time he spent with Gohan was in the Time Chamber, and that was just because Goku thought his son liked fighting like he did. Either way, he was written as a sort of absentee father and not there for Gohan when he needed to be.
@@tarnw3301there was tons of running jokes where Goku completely forgot he had a son, and the fact that DBZA was the main culprit behind the "Piccolo is Gohan's real dad" jokes. Like in Cooler's Revenge, after Cooler finishes ranting about his dad, Goku responds with "If I ever have a son, I'll treat him better." They really made it seem like Goku never really gave a shit about his family which while funny sometimes got annoying later on

Although they started the trend, they made up for it on part 2 of Ep60, with Goku flat out telling Gohan he was sorry for wrongly assuming he was also into fighting, and he was trying to bond because that's all he knew and didn't take his son's wishes to just hang out with him instead of just training. Also his speech when about to die with Cell when he was about to explode really made him closer to the version on this video
I already knew Goku was a great dad... what this video made me ask was Damm What happened to Goku in Super? all that seriousness when the time was needed, that mature and calm demeanor when relaxing, being an adult... Toriyama really nerf his personality there
My theory is that his is Goku after being dead for 7 years, ever wonder what type of effect that has on a person staying in the afterlife that long. If you come back you'd just want to enjoy the time while you can.
The greatest thing a father can do is believe in their son/daughter. And however little present he is, the moment he is it should memmorable. Goku did that in spades. Now great husband not so sure lmaoo
Super Goku? Probably not. But I think Z Goku should get some credit. He does love his wife. You can tell. He listened to her and respected her wishes when it came to Gohan being a scholar. He wasn't perfect, but he definitely wasn't bad.
Kinda reminded me of that episode when Goku got beaten up so badly by Great Ape Vegeta right after and ChiChi started running towards him but doesn’t care about Goku at the moment but only Master Roshi and Bulma. I like ChiChi and i really do but she built different 😭😭
He keeps his promises to get a job after finishing cell but he died and Buu saga happened so he did get a job when we was able to. @@Eesar11 I mean he was treated well by Grandpa Gohan who’s a human and raised him since his parents died and there’s Raditz who is a Brother of Goku and told him everything about saiyan and you already know the rest about Saiyans and planet Vegeta but at the end of day he’s a saiyan from earth. Yes you’re right he’s battle hungry but keep it mind tho, he wants to fight strong opponents and it doesn’t matter if you’re a villain or heroes from different universes. Take an example of Dragon Ball Super, he was forced to work because ChiChi doesn’t want him to fight but if it was a life or death situation then she wants him to fight against that enemy like she’s the only one who could put him in check. Please don’t take offense, it’s my opinion

14:00 love how even tho gohan is stronger than goku, but still decides to call him daddy. He still sees him as his dad, who's there to protect him. He said it when it mattered most, right before goku saved him one last time.
EXACTLY! I'd KILL to have a dad as great as Goku bro! He fuckin loves his family and would do anything for their safty- that sounds like all you could ask for in a dad.
One moment in this that’s often used as evidence of goku being a bad dad is tossing cell the senzu bean, but what everyone always misses out is that goku was able to step in and save him if it went wrong and he also knew that Gohan would only win if he was dealing with an all or nothing situation, he was the only one who knew that it would work
What do you mean, "could've"? Gohan did surpass Goku. It was slacking off on his training which caused him to stagnate. Not to mention that Goku trained relentlessly in a place where he was free of mortal limitations, for seven years.
@DrMcMoist exactly i meant lol. He could've kept training more and more over the years and surpassed his father even more but didn't which caused him to stop training like 3 times? Remember he always wanted to study not fight.

Well his wife would have killed him if he came home without Gohan
Goku’s gotta get his back back luckily thats when Piccolo shows up, now Piccolo’s a saiyan just like raditz

Dragon Ball fans explaining how literally dying for your son twice makes you a bad father:
Goku saved krillen and gohan from nappa he fights vegeta technically had to transform into a great ape to beat a beat in up goku plus saved earth and the universe from frieza dbz fans now what there talking about it's sad
Facts. I went to school with a few kids growing up that had a parent(s) that really wanted their kids to only have lifes around academics.
😭😭😭
Thats what a good parent does.Supports thier kid no matter what they want to do in life and Goku always encouraged him to be a scholar as he got older. He knows Gohans potential but he didnt force the fighting life onto him. If anything Gohan trained to protect his family and friends out of respect for his dad at times. Sure he got soft after the 7 year timeskip till the Buu Saga. But hey no threats were around during that time so of course he took it easy and lived his life and occasionally sparred with his little Brother Goten.
Tru. Better than what the Dragon Ball fan base has been saying about Gohan

@@superubergoober hm i had not thought about that, krillin also says how goku trains but doesn't visit anymore.
the difference is that goku not being there with his family in z is because it's circumstancial. he's always either dead or on another planet. at the beginning of z he was with gohan chi chi and ox king for 5 years, and three years with gohan prior to the androids arrival. while super goku is just like "oh parties? sure i could attend, but nah imma train bruh" of course. end of z goku also did the same thing...
but what i mean is he's mostly on beerus' planet (and so is vegeta). he's choosing to be there rather than being forced to be unavailable. in super, goku barely cared that he has a granddaughter and he just ran to beerus planet while in end of z, he was shown to be training pan and had a close bond with her
also if you say that he is shown to be with goten, i just feel like that happens offscreen mostly and when we see the story going on, he just goes to some planet or something. but i think you're right, he does spend time with goten, since goten loves goku unconditionally, which means goku and goten had father son moment and bonding in the 4 year timeskip.
but regardless, i just feel like super goku doesn't hang out with his friends and family than z goku does. he just had that one scene where he didn't see bulma and others for 5 years, but that happens during when dbs happens, and that line will probably be retconned

This
If anything, people should get mad at how much Goku is owed by everyone.
@afrofriend9140 all these things youve listed are things 95% of the fathers wouldve done if they were in gokus shoes, goku isnt retarded he just lacks societal norms yet he never tried to apply himself for his family (during the time he was alive) nor did he ask mr satan if he could help out with money since he took credit for killing cell, he tried to bribe the elder kai in the buu saga with gohans girlfriend, talking more with gohan/goten from the afterlife clearly wouldnt have been a problem considering the things hes done for the universe
also gohan wants to be a scholar? gohan doesnt even know himself what he wants thats why everyone else tells him what he wants (chichi: a scholar, goku/piccolo: a fighter etc.) the final straw that broke gohans back to reach SSJ2 was seeing the head of an android getting crushed by cell - the android he has never spoken to or seen before and not the friends/family he knew since years getting beat up

Both are good traits, It's important to Recognize your son's potential, but It's also important tò preserva their wellbeing
@SRT_DRE Here's the thing........ In a way Piccolo was right: Gohan doesn't not like fighting but Goku was right too because he spent a year with his son training and he knew that Gohan was the only person who could defeat Cell and save the world
Both Piccolo and Goku were right in that situation

Saiyan's pride coming in
Tbh its actually just saiyan stuff for goku to throw his son into the batlle with cell
I like super a lot, but I wish Goku was this mature more often in it, especially in the tournament of power arc.
if we talk about manga super goku is mature in moro arc and granola arc the most
Also, people forget that compared to Saiyan nature, Goku is actually one of the best fathers out there.
Goku may love battle and he may like to train he is also a lovable goofball, but to just make him out to be a literal manchild who can't take responsibility or saying he isn't good to his family is outrageous.
only idiots think that "Memes = Reality", im blaming TFS for perpetuating this sh*t
I think its because of dragon ball abridged, its a parody but people think that its just how the series is, but less self aware
@@shawerful5209 yeah I agree. Dragon Ball Abridged did it's thing as a very fun project to show a humorous side to Dragon Ball, but I think people grew to view the parody's narratives as evidence or facts and projected it onto the actual canon series where hardly any of it was true. If anything
@@Douio That'd be pretty odd considering they say at the start of every episode that it's a " *Fan-Based Parody* "
@@iamthestrong927dragon ball fans can’t read also they do take DBZA as the actual canon which is extreme brain rot they don’t even know the actual show or have even seen it
Hey man🙂😌,thanks for giving us this video, 🙇❤🔥!
Very emotional I love DBZ been watching since a kid🥹💞💯

People also ignore the fact there are literal years in time gaps when Goku is alive and is with his family.
@@noonnoon658 hey that’s actually a great explanation of cultural differences, honestly the western fanbase complains a lot about Goku not being a conventional dad, but come on, aside from him being an alien warrior who defends earth from other aliens and even gods, the guy was raised in the mountains and never got basic education, how are there people who really expect him to be the regular dad with some regular job and spend most of his time at home doing whatever? the guy saves the universe on a daily basis AND he’s officially a millionaire since Mr.Satan gave him those 30M so they aren’t short on money by any means, people just like to criticize while completely ignoring all the relevant details

Goku is truly an amazing father.
Agreed.

Totally
The others who says that he is a "bad father" they forgot about THIS moments
I wouldn’t say he’s “amazing”. He just tries his best and does what he knows how.
People accuse Goku of being a bad dad but seem to forget how terrible Vegeta was to Trunks both adult and kid Trunks all because of Vegeta's sacrifice while great still makes people forget just how bad of a father he really was.
Its crazy that people say this when for 3/4 of dragon ball z goku was protecting gohan
@@nathanstruble2177You do know training alone isn't how characters in DBZ get stronger right?
Thank you for this. We all need parents who believe in their kids the way Goku believes in Gohan.
You bring up a really good point of course he doesn't know how to completely be a dad he was all alone in the world after his Grandpa died

What did DBZA Goku do worth being labeled a "bad father"?
Like in Cooler's Revenge, after Cooler finishes ranting about his dad, Goku responds with "If I ever have a son, I'll treat him better." They really made it seem like Goku never really gave a shit about his family which while funny sometimes got annoying later on
@@Subpar1O1I actually have a hard time rewatching DBZA as a result. also I cant stand the fact that Kaisers response to people getting upset with them popularizing the joke is to go “we didn’t invent that joke”
people most likely know about the joke because of DBZA. Own it Kaiser.
I already knew Goku was a great dad... what this video made me ask was
Damm What happened to Goku in Super? all that seriousness when the time was needed, that mature and calm demeanor when relaxing, being an adult... Toriyama really nerf his personality there
My theory is that his is Goku after being dead for 7 years, ever wonder what type of effect that has on a person staying in the afterlife that long. If you come back you'd just want to enjoy the time while you can.

9:09 Goku really did fulfil his promise.
P.S At start of Z, Goku promised Gohan that they will go fishing together someday.
Now I don't know why you think Goku is a human for some reason he is an alien that fight for living it's in there blood if Goku wants to fight it's because he is sayain nothing more
@@Eesar11 I mean he was treated well by Grandpa Gohan who’s a human and raised him since his parents died and there’s Raditz who is a Brother of Goku and told him everything about saiyan and you already know the rest about Saiyans and planet Vegeta but at the end of day he’s a saiyan from earth. 14:00 love how even tho gohan is stronger than goku, but still decides to call him daddy. He still sees him as his dad, who's there to protect him. He said it when it mattered most, right before goku saved him one last time.
Also saved him in the buu saga . But we don't talk about the buu saga.
Goku really isn't a bad dad.
Also, Gohan's OG dubbed VA will always be my favorite
EXACTLY! I'd KILL to have a dad as great as Goku bro! He fuckin loves his family and would do anything for their safty- that sounds like all you could ask for in a dad.
6:35 Notice how Goku is completely silent, he DOESN'T WANT to hurt his son, but if he doesn't push then Cell will destroy the Earth.
You really recopiled 17 minutes of Goku being a incredible father? I wasn't expecting this, but we needed this🗿
It wasn’t hard if you actually watched the show instead of reels and DBZA
One moment in this that’s often used as evidence of goku being a bad dad is tossing cell the senzu bean, but what everyone always misses out is that goku was able to step in and save him if it went wrong and he also knew that Gohan would only win if he was dealing with an all or nothing situation, he was the only one who knew that it would work

As someone who’s only seen clips of the original DBZ and only watched DBS, I’m genuinely surprised how warm and supportive Goku was as a dad.
You can care for someone but still be terrible for them sometimes the best thing is to let them go.
What's crazy is that Gohan could've literally surpassed his father if he kept training over the years. He could've become the most strongest.
