Book is hands-down, the scariest read ever. I read it shortly after the Shining and Salems lot, which are extremely gripping but not like Pet Sematary. Even King agrees, himself. I like the first movie in from the 80s and was also frightened as a kid, but nothing adapted since.
Agreed. I just re-read my 2nd hand copy.A tattered old 1983 print. & As for the film - I was about 9 when I watched it & Zelda still lives with me!
Pet Sematary was my first King novel. I was so completely entranced and read it in one day/night. My all time favorite!
The only thing I didn’t like about the movie was it felt like something was missing from the hospital scene up to where they meet at Timmy’s house. How did they know Manny’s sister was at the Baterman’s home? Maybe if it wasn’t such a short story, they could have fleshed out some more of the story.

Slight tangent but something interesting is how King feels about the original film version despite being the screenwriter. He told the following to Cinefantastique in 1991:
I think Dale Midkiff is stiff in places. I think Denise Crosby comes across cold in places. I don’t feel that the couple that’s at the center of the story has the kind of warmth that would set them off perfectly against the supernatural element that surrounds them. I like that contrast better. I think it does what horror movies are supposed to do. It’s an outlaw genre. It’s an outlaw picture. A lot of the reviews have suggested very strongly that people are offended by the picture, and that’s exactly the effect that the horror movie seeks.
The worst thing a movie can do is be boring and this movie was boring. It was only 90 minutes which is usually the perfect runtime for me, but I kept checking the runtime to see how much of this was left.
It is not a BAD film. I believe it could have been much better.Although,I must admit,it is beautifully shot.

The actress Natalie Alyn Lind who plays Norma in the film is the daughter of Barbara Alyn Woods from hit TV Series One Tree Hill and Chucky Series along with her younger sister Alyvia Alyn Lid (Lexi Cross)... Her other sister Emily Alyn Lind was in the Netflix horror-comedy The Babysitter 1& 2 and Gossip Girl reboot.... They are family of horror movie/series actresses.
The only thing I like about Pet Sematary: Bloodline is when they went into the backstory of what happened to Timmy and his family that we heard about in the novel and the first original film when Jud was telling the story. Plus legendary phenomenal actress Pam Grier is in the movie which make it little bit better for me😂 lol.
The original is still one of the most powerful movies I've ever seen. It's hard to capture lightning in a bottle like that twice.
Pet Semetery is one of only two books I've read twice, Salem's Lot being the other. That's another remake which really worries me. Doctor Jekyll on the other hand is the film which I'm really excited for this month!
Loved the original film. Heard the Audiobook. Loved the ending of the remake. I have Paramount + (mainly because I'm a Trek freak), but I will surely get around to this. At first, I really did think it was going to be a season of shows. That would make more sense. I'll watch it when I'm bored... but I have a lot to catch up on. Great vid. Please never stop!
I'm getting tired of people trying to expand on original ideas, be it with prequels, sequels, remakes,etc., but it doesn't ruin the original at least. I really like the original,how it deals with our inability or unwillingness to confront loss, plus it gets a few extra brownie points for being one of the few King movies actually filmed in Maine.

I listened to the audiobook of Pet Sematary couple years ago and loved it. I might be one of the few people who actually liked Pet Sematary: Bloodlines. Yes, nothing can capture horror from the book or 80s adaptation. That said i did find myself enjoying the period it was set in and what town looked like before it went downhill. The gore, the kills, and what led Jud to stay in the town. I didn't have problem with the pacing, but i do think david duchovny was misscast for the role. I didn't find him intimidating because he has puppy eyes and not intimidating ones like say...Stephen Lang or Clint Eastwood. 7.1 out of 10.

Pet Sematary has so much potential... I actually don't mind rebooting it, or expanding it.... I almost could see a kind of "Evil Dead" franchise. But yeah, the last two attempts are such a miss.
Still got it on my list, but I’m looking forward to watching it !

I couldn’t get past the fact that the timeline was off from win. Judd tells the story of Tim Biederman in the original movie. I also didn’t like how they added the requirement that you aim for the eyes win. There were no special instructions on how to kill things, they came back from the cemetery and any other installment that I remember
Much like The Exorcist, this is a perfect case of how it should have been one and done.
Technically speaking The Exorcist III was decent, but overall these should just be left alone.
I got as far as the title screen and turned it off instantly! 😂 I love that audiobook.

I liked it but didn't expect anything great! I felt the same with the Children of the Corn prequel earlier this year which I liked parts of, but this one was better. However, nothing beats the original from 1989.

Very good movie and not as scary but interesting, nothing will be as scary as the first but i like this attempt, it fails at Judd being so old in 1989 from 1969 but still cool, i wish they could have ended the movie with the guy from the originals voice saying "sometimes dead is better"
Pet sematary was my first Stephen king book and it was great alittle slow but actually really sad😔🖤
The relationship between Judd and Manny was so unbelievable. I didn’t buy into the emotional grab at the end because they were clearly estranged at the beginning of the movie and did little to build that friendship before the third act. The whole pacing of the movie just felt off.
I also would have liked them to touch on the wendigo. It, in my opinion, is the driving force behind the Pet Semetary.
I think bloodline part two will come, cause Norma still alive. In the 2019 version Old Jud siad "I killed her twice". That's mean Norma die later then Jud buried her at pet sematary and Killed her again.

I agree with your assessment 100%. I enjoyed it, but it is forgettable. People are being overly harsh on it though, with 1/2 a star ratings on Letterboxd.
I enjoyed it and thought it was a solid origin story 🤷🏼♂️ My only real gripe was so many scenes were too damn dark! Like actually dark. I don’t enjoy staring at a black screen with audio and I really wish filmmakers would stop making this choice.

I grew up in the 80’s so sequels don’t bother me, however I thought this was a letdown. Feels like it would have worked better as mini series than a movie.

Not a bad film. Great cast. I was thrown off that Judd didn't know anything about the cemetery's powers. Didn't he tell Louis he buried his dog in it when he was a boy. I hate when franchises forget their own storylines. Also too much stuff happens off screen. I wanted to see Pam fight off the dog and her actual exit was weak.

As somebody with Paramount Plus I thought I would venture my opinion here. I wouldn't watch this movie again if they paid ME, but Paramount does have a nice little selection of horror flicks that are worth checking out even if you just binge them on a free trial.
I hated this film less than the remake but this zombie path they went on just takes away the true horror of the book and original movie
Agreed 3 or 4 score it was quite boring. I haven't read the book forgot about the wendigo does it explain the wendigo in the book?
Not really but it touches on it in a sinister manner kind of like the remake
I've never understood this story. Nobody would want their loved ones to come back as murderous zombies and they know that's what's going to happen.
Because grief makes people desperate
The only interesting part of the movie would have been Timmy and his Dad. The exploration of grief and guilt are important. But they really didn't do much with it. Spent too much time explaining then jumped into the action. Oh well.
Every single person that reviews this disliked it. I found it fun. I liked the additional new characters, I liked the cast. I liked how they added on to the lore by flashbacking to the settlers. No it's got nothing on the original but I had fun with it.
I didn’t feel like much lore was really added by that flash back, nothing that wasn’t already in the title, I was excited when I saw it happening just to realise the sematary was already established

Wasn't all that bad. Could've used less exposition, keep some of the lore a mystery. Would've love to see the Wendigo that appears in the book.
As a fan of the book and the original film, for me this film is very poor. Putting apart the good actors, the writing is poor, there are scenes that are cliché in most horror movies, like an empty hospital or the girl beeing kept alive for some reason. It's a movie that i will forget easilly.

Why nobody is talking about the grotesque plot hole of Jud not knowing the story from cemitery ? He buried his dog Spot when he is younger ,so i got very annoyng . Sorry ,this movie is boring and the story is already told so much better in 5 minutes in the flashback from the original movie.

This pretty much affirmed what I suspected, another milking of this title that offered nothing substantial. Pity, it has a good cast and those clips are nicely shot. Maybe it might garner a following, who knows.
Guys, don't watch dis movie, two days ago, I downloaded straight away without seeing the trailer n rating, I tried to watch dis movie but I slept it. Every time I tried to watch the movie, I fall sleep, then I checked the rating, very poor, next thing I deleted it.
Disapointed! Loved the book and movie and wanted more. But actually expected it not to be that good.
Terrible movie that shat on the pet sematary name. They make some really big continuity issues. Its like whoever made this movie didnt watch any of the other movies. It also felt like there was scenes missing and not exploring the wendigo or the reason why the dead rise is just stupid. What was with the batermans dog aswell how, why and when was it buried at the burial ground? How did that girl get out of being tied up covered in mud and buried underground? And why would the resurrected just kidnap her? And how the fuck did Timmy dig out all those tunnels lol. Not to mention Jud should already know about the burial ground he buried his dog there when he was a boy?

I'm sorry but that is not a young Judd, this is not a prequel to The Original this is not even a prequel to The remake, when you are buried in that Pet Sematary and you come back you do not have the ability to act like a normal person and that is not the same boy from in the story. Pretty much on all points. It adds nothing to the story with no feeling of dread. Jusdt a lot of bad exposition of what we already know and characters we as the viewers do not give a shit about. It's a boring film, nothing fucking happens. The zombies are no threat at all...unless you er, shoot them in the eyes. Jud may have mentioned that the Dr Creed eh? :)
Over and over again, horror ever since the pandemic 😷 lockdown have been horrifyingly BAD. Offensively BAD.
With a very few exceptions, ever since 2020, the majority of horror is almost unwatchable.
The Invisible Man (2020) was really the last Great one.
The Witch (2015) is another excellent one. 2019’s READY OR NOT. TRAIN TO BUSAN from 2016.
But something serious happened ever since COVID, that they just seem to be unable to produce an actually decent scary movie is depressing.
Although Hulu’s recent “NO ONE CAN SAVE YOU,” is entertaining.
But “TALK TO ME,” I found oppressively boring and unimaginative. “X” was NOT GOOD, although “Pearl,” was better.
I dont like this movie. Its boring, I actually fell asleep.
I don't know why this movie is getting so many bad reviews. I'd give it a 7.5 out of 10. If you read the book you'll appreciate the movie. David D. and Pam G. are underused but beyond that it was good. What's wrong Hollywood? Not enough "woke" bs in this movie?
The movie conflicts with the book completely . Jud has a different story about first finding out about the cemetery by his dog… the time lines are also different.
@@spookyastronauts but unlike the original film the people buried in the sour ground know things they couldn't possibly know, which was the scariest part about them in the book. Yeah, Timmy came back from Vietnam (movie) rather than WW2 (book)...I thought the movie could have dug a little deeper into mic Mac/burial ground lore but other than that it was a winner for me.

This movie is boring, tasteless, doesn't even explain why the evil barial ground even exists. The lack of common sense for the sake of horror, plot holes, barely any lore.
People want their loved ones back because of grief, this movie fails to provide that truth.
