  • Unfortunately, I could not do a live album reaction to FACE due to technical difficulties during the live stream. All the other videos I was supposed to do are on Patreon ie Jimmy Fallon, the dance practices, and the crown jewel of the album Letter. Sorry, CZcams copyrights that stuff.

    From the Rolling Stone interview-I was encouraged to read the last sentence-he is okay now! 💜 "Actually, my members were the people who made it possible for me to start preparing this album. This all began at the [Permission to Dance on Stage] concerts in Las Vegas last year, and at the time, I was struggling with the emotions that ended up in [“Like Crazy”]… While we were talking over drinks, I told them, “I don’t know if I’m doing well. I don’t even know what I’m doing.” But the members said that it’s perfectly fine to feel that way, that it’s okay to feel lost sometimes. They suggested, “Why don’t you express these emotions through music?” So the moment I returned to Korea from the United States, I met up with the producers and started working on music right away. I’m so thankful to my members for inspiring me to start working on this album. I don’t know how people are going to react to the music, but I actually was able to completely resolve and move on from all those feelings of being lost. I’m perfectly okay now, so I’m so very thankful to them. "

      That’s why I love these guys so much, they show us how real they are, they aren’t just facades of people, they are honest about their flaws and feelings of being scared etc just like all of us. Even when we do love ourselves somehow we feel we can do better and feel inadequate. One of the most relatable feelings in the world.

      With Dive we have 7 songs
      And minus dive is 6
      Think he pick number of the song in perfect way.
      Even number of songs show message of the own
      Also I pick Dive and not add hidden track Letter because ppl ignore Dive bcs. it is not a song and that part of all the songs send a realy powerfull,sad and angry message.
      He put that for a reason in his album.
      He could easy add that with remix songs and add a song in the album instead if he wanted,but you will not hear what he wanted to say show...
      You would miss big part of his message
      He say his story with this songs.
      Skip one song,one part,and you will not hear the full message ...add few more songs and it would be to much for this type of story.
      So the number of songs for this story is actualy perfect.
      Belive when he one day put 2nd album we will see more colors of his songs,more everything.
      If he want to do that.
      Jimin is type of person who dont rush with art and want everything to be perfect
      There are so many Artists who put so much songs on their album. Many times it feel like random songs that have 0 conection or they are just bad and you end up liking one or two songs from the whole album.
      Or none
      Jimin folow BTS way.
      No matter how much songs you have (even that I do belive he pick this number of songs for a reason),the storyline is more important.
      He put himself and his personal feelings into whole album.
      He didnt fake it or add random songs into his story or go to far and to much with his lost and pain.
      He say what he felt and he set himself free
      His 2nd album (one day) will tell diffrent storys

      Agreed, it is not just that it is short. The crescendo moment of Set Me Free Pt 2, where he finally faces his demons is satisfying, but that to be the end of EP is oddly unsettling because I want to know Jimin is okay (which he said he is of course). Another track, something that would have brought that story to completion would have been great. On the other hand, this is probably his genius, he did, in one his lives promise a more upbeat album next. I guess he is saving those tracks for part 2 of the story.

    Thanks so much for posting this reaction, Jim. It might be encouraging to you (like it was for me) to keep in mind that Jimin has said this album reflects his experience during the pandemic but that he has processed through these emotions now and is no longer feeling this way. He also said sharing his thoughts with the other members really helped him to start processing it all and that's what led him to creating this album - so glad they have each other. I think it's incredibly courageous of him to share these reflections on such a difficult moment with us, but I'm also so grateful that he is also sharing with us that he is in a better place mentally now than he was at that time. I think it's really a gift to have artists who are this open, and I wish him only the best for much happier days in the future.

    • @maggan2808
      @maggan2808 Před rokem +10

      Thank you for your post, it's needed. Jimin has clearly stated what the album is about, the effect of the pandemic on him. Jimin thrives on personal contact, on performing in front of live audiences. It's what he was made to do so perfectly. Suddenly, it was all taken away from him, his oxygen. Devastation is probably a mild word for what he was feeling. And still, being the empath that he is, he also felt guilty for those feelings. Like he said, there are others out in the world who had a much harder time than him.
      So many conflicting emotions put into one amazing album. Cathartic? I bet it was. That's why we've seen him smiling so brightly for the last couple of months. And now he can perform live again, oxygen reinstated.

    Face is a beautiful album, many army and non-army don't get it and think is about a relationship, problems with alcohol or try to victimize Jimin. But the beauty of the albulm is hiden and when you take it for what it is, when you pay attention and let yourself be sweep away by the sound and his voice, then you can understand the story.
    Another thing that i pop up in my mind was that the producers Jimin worked with were kind of defending Jimin's song from the haters and evil critics, and i think is because they know how brave Jimin was to show himself so vulnerable and are proud of the work Jimin and them created together, and i say it because i don't remember them doing something like this before.

    Thanks for posting this reactions. Personally I agree. I don't think this album has anything to do with a lost love/relationship but only with his inner struggles. He has always had these struggles but it looks like during the isolation of the pandemic they hit a new high. He has stated that he is much better now and has set himself free (He also noted his next album will be more upbeat). Edit to add; And 3 days ago he stated he will go live with Army on Mar 29 to discuss the album. so we may gain some more insight into the meaning behind each song and wont have to rely on our own interpretations so much.

      I agree with you to some extent however I do not think this album is really about how he felt during the pandemic, i think it goes deeper into what he is feeling during the last 3 years, I got 3 hypothesis: he feels jailed by the fame and second he feels lonely because the lack of a stable love relationship and also the military service looming into his mind.

    I agree with you Jim. The members have always been very transparent with us when it comes to their struggles and inner demons. They've written emotional songs, poured their hearts out on stage, continue to write letters to army and post them on weverse, it's a relationship that keeps building on trust and love. Bts want to write and produce music that helps those who are suffering, feel lonely, and in need of comfort. Jimin's track "alone" was created because he felt lost and depressed and he knew that many people in the world feel the exact same way. Having people listen to his album and relate to his emotions and be comforted by his words, knowing they're not alone, there is someone who hears you, we need more music like this to be played on the radio and topping the charts.

  • @charlenem220
    @charlenem220 Před rokem +9

    After hearing the whole album I also felt like it was telling a very deep and personal story. Each song takes you seamlessly to the next.
    Like you said Jimin didn’t give us the album everyone might have wanted but I feel he gave us the album HE needed to give as an artist. He showed us so much vulnerability and it pains me to know just a fraction of the unimaginable pain he has suffered, but I hope that putting pen to paper and now sharing with all of us has been cathartic for him.
    One last thing I would like to say is the growth he has shown with this album is unbelievable. So much maturity in the music and his voice, incredible.
    On the physical album there is a hidden track called “Letter” (hopefully you will react to it). I think when you listen to Promise which is Jimin’s first song he wrote and produced on his own and then listen to Letter you really get a true understanding of just how far Jimin has grown as a singer and artist. Letter is simply a strong warm and inviting hug. We joke about how everyone needs a Jimin in there life when we see how Jimin is with the other members and how he cares for them. I feel Letter is the closest we as fans will get to truly understanding what it means to have a Jimin.
    Thank you Jim for your awesome reaction and review. You have helped me to view the album with new insight. 😊

    @abbiem7773 Před rokem +17

    ❣To me the key word is also “pandemic” which Jimin did say that this whole album he released is mainly about. I mean at a certain point, didn’t we all feel this way during the pandemic, when so many to various degrees, feel their rooms closing in, during the period when the pandemic was at its worst, felt & had a look of all in the dirt/mud which in actuality represents despair. In the song Alone, the lyrics Jimin wrote really says much that many can relate to during this time period we all went thru during pandemic. Which in turn, caused him to go through so many thoughts, feelings, & emotions, including anxiety, feeling, alone, despair, anguish, as well as depression, & more. Jimin also said he wanted to share with others in hopes it could help them, as well as be able to relate to some of these feelings. Everyone does indeed deal with these kinds of feelings in different ways. Jimin, himself said, in his song Promise, which he also started writing during another time of inner turmoil, & despair, was that it’s best not to hide one’s self in the dark, alone, but to shine the light on yourself, and to speak up for yourself, instead of saying it’s ok, it’s alright, to yourself & others, when it’s not alright. So Jimin has had inner thoughts and emotions such as these somewhat before pandemic at times, like around the time when BTS in early 2018 was thinking of splitting up, right when he started the song, but made it more uplifting and more positive when everything turned better again! I’m sure at certain stages of one’s life there has been situations, and or times that have cause such thoughts, emotions of despair. But not everyone is able to acknowledge let alone talk about them which is therapeutic and helpful as well! I’m sure this process wasn’t easy to get all out and share, but this is situation from past, and as the last song on album says, “Set Me Free”, at the very end it shows that he’s uplifted and free of those feeling pulling him down haunting him! But indeed these songs and lyrics might help others who are going through similar feelings and emotions, so they know they’re not alone out there. Just like how Jimin’s song Promise helped so many others, he’s phoning these songs in this album will have same effect!
    Sorry,,,,I didn’t mean for this to get so lengthy!

    @buffybot11 Před rokem +12

    Jimin is often reduced to his looks and the seductiveness that comes with his dance and voice (Filter is a fandom favorite and I get why, but it has undertones which still make me uncomfortable, I can't help it - I love it, don't get me wrong, but it's never just one emotion in his works)... but he's also fiercly intelligent and so humble.
    Coming from Busan, where being a manly man is so important and him choosing to dance... it must have been difficult.
    He polarizes like no other artist I've come across so far... set me free pt. 2 was dismissed by 'fans' as 'meh' and not fitting their image of his work and some had the audacity to boycott Like Crazy, because... well... he danced with a girl.🙄
    He always struggled with his bodyimage, starved himself half to death, because he was called 'fat'... even now, he struggles and doubts himself. I think he always will. And yes, even with all that money and expensive things around him, the fame and so on... I think he is lonely sometimes. Idols can't do drugs, because their careers are over when it comes out, so they drink and they lie about their well-being, so we don't worry too much.
    When he says he's fine now... I have my doubts.
    I love Face, if it seems raw... it is. It's unusual, but so Jimin. He takes uncomfortable things/thoughts and wrapps them in shiny paper with a bow on top. So fans who like pretty things get that and fans who like to dig deeper, get him.
    Loved your reaction and your thoughts on this and I wholeheartedly agree. 💜

    Every time a member of BTS releases a solo project, I feel like we get to see a part of their souls. Jimin really put himself out there with this album. It's short but it has weight cause of how vulnerable he is. I feel for him and all he's been through, but I appreciate him willing to share his inner self with us. Regarding Alone and about it being related to the pandemic, maybe it’s because they stopped their crazy schedule during the pandemic and so the demons that they’ve been putting off had time to surface and they had no crazy tour to escape to. They had to confront these things that’s been piling up.
    While I’m here and just midway through your review, I’d like to thank you for this in depth reflection. I was so disappointed to hear some ppl dismiss this to just surface feelings and alcoholism as an escape. Jimin being part of BTS means nothing is basic. I see references of Lie, ON, black swan and other subjects they’ve touched on in their discography. Considering those songs were composed of both the theme of the albums and their own feelings and experiences, I’m not surprised Jimin also tackled them in his own album. If you watch the choreo for Like Crazy and set me free, there’s elements from Lie, On, and filter, etc. Filter is about adapting a persona for someone else! Geez. Jimin did such an awesome job. I love this album.

    • @musiclover19797
      @musiclover19797 Před rokem +3

      I think that’s so uniquely Jimin. He’s a layered person and even his album has layers. Maybe it’s purposefully set up that those who decide to look on the surface, can just stay on the surface…but those willing to look deeper can continually unlock new aspects of the story.
      Take Like Crazy, it has such a fun party-like beat and yet it’s a sad song, depressing even. The music video looks fun and happy but it’s actually pretty sad. Set me Free looks dark and rough yet it’s the positive ending to the album, his story of triumph.
      The album is private but also public. Those who want to sing along and dance can but those who want to analyze and look deeper can see Jimin really shared a very vulnerable part of himself, and even resonate with the deeper feelings.
      I’m wondering if he will even mention the story behind the album fully on Weverse on the 29th, given how private he is. This was a very big step for him.

    It was never actually about public persona, haters or how others perceive him.
    In the Suchwita episode, all the interviews, and his own FACE showcase, Jimin mentioned that this album is about a particular hard time that he went through during the pandemic, when he felt distant from his friends (and lost a few...), was lost as a musician and performer, felt emptiness even towards people he loved, and he was drinking a lot to numb all that pain and loneliness. The whole album is a masterfully created chronological story of his painful emotions and experiences during two years of the pandemic.
    Thankfully, he was able to overcome these hardships and create this beautiful album ~

    He created this album with the suggestions of the members because during the pandemic he started having different emotions and started questioning himself. By creating the music it helped him FACE and confront himself and what he's going through. In the end he realized no one can release himself from all those feelings but himself and that's why the last track is Set Me Free Pt2.

    jimin said in the interlude...he gets into his car and starts it up (10:22) JImin did an explanation of the songs after you created this video.
    both on Suchwita and a separate vid, but I am sure you have discovered that by now. Good to compare your thoughts vs. Jimins :-)
    last bit is the writing on his body or maybe on an elastic material...is a poem
    "Ich lebe mein Leben in wachsenden Ringen” by Rainer Maria Rilke.

    Set me free: it's funny how you said it looked he was daydreaming before. Jimin told he was drinking a lot during the pandemic to cope because he was struggling. So actually he wasn't daydreaming but he was dazed because of the drinking. He refers to drinking in the other songs.

    From the beginning, Jimin was always the most insecure of the group. He had the least training time, and there was also a big question about whether they were even going to let him join the group. People used to complain about his singing, and he was very insecure. When he released serendipity, he spent a lot of time talking about how he wasn’t sure his voice was even good enough to do the song. Army spent a lot of time trying to reassure him that he was very good. I really enjoyed that. He’s been so honest about his own demons, because we all have that voice in our heads, that tells us we’re no good.

      To me, the intro sounds like the music you would hear when a character in a movie is drunk or disoriented. Yes, the music is circus music; however, the tempo is slowing, and the audio is panning. I think this is the setup for a significant theme in the album.
