  • Getting a watch you want isn't necessarily just about having the means to get one. When a piece gets insanely popular getting the watch you want might require just a little bit of cunning. Here's the story about the eight addition to my ever growing collection. My latest Rolex, GMT Master II, the Batgirl.

      Yeah, I originally wanted the Pepsi on jubilee, but when I say the Bruce Wayne (Batman on jubilee), I wanted it so much more.

    I got mine from an out of state AD last month after a two month wait. Got so lucky. Love it! The Bruce Wayne!

      That’s not a crazy long wait. There are some waiting list horror stories out there. Good for you. Enjoy the watch! That one still puts a smile on my face each time I put it on :)

    Another great review on another great watch. That’s awesome you got lucky at the AD and got your hands on it. One of my favorite Rolex models hands down

      Thanks! That was quite lucky. But I figured, the worst they could say is no. It's an awesome watch and well worth the hype.

      I love that look too! Might even give the Sky-Dweller a try on the jubilee :)

    It should be called the Batman not batgirl when the GMT first came out it was in the jubilee bracelet first. People should wake up know there history

    Awesome watch review and very informative. So in your opinion what’s the best time of the year to approach the AD for rare watches like this one.

      I was definitely lucky. But, I do think that around the holidays ADs get a little more of the popular stock. When I got the GMT they actually had one more in the back. As far as I know every AD has their own quota of the type of stock they can get. So they do spread it out through the year. I'd walk in now to express interest in buying one, and swing back around the holidays to see if something shows up. Good luck!

    Do you have any real tips on how to get one with an AD? I just started Rolex purchase recently and only bought a datejust two tone for my dad. I have zero purchase history.

    • @TimeEquation
      @TimeEquation  Před 3 lety +1

      There's no real substitute for a good relationship with your AD. And in my experience that doesn't necessarily equate to a long purchase history for Rolex specifically.
      When I first got into watches I started growing my collection by buying Brietling pieces. And after just the first three, with a casually expressed interest in a blue dial Sky-Dweller, my AD offered me one. I suspect because they knew I would keep the watch, and that I'm going to buy more pieces outside just Rolex from them. They generally like to grow their customer base versus selling watches to random walk ins.
      So I think that's the key if you're looking to get these watches at retail price. Be a genuine watch enthusiast. Show that you know a thing or two about watches. Swing by often. And don't disregard other brands they sell in the store. While waiting for a coveted piece you could be enjoying wearing a great watch that is immediately available. Good luck!

      @@TimeEquation my AD only sells Rolex and custom made jewelry :(. I don’t have a need for custom jewelry.
