Jeremy for a 4 cylinder, MSRP and top of the line everything it’s not really that bad of a price, building a STi or mazdaspeed engine to that level of power will cost you quite a bit more. And you can find deals. And building a engine really isn’t all that hard if you’re mechanically inclined, I’m lucky to have gone into the industrial mechanical field, I’m a power engineer... all in all you should be able to source parts for around $10k give or take for a reliable 1000 whp K series done right...

K20A2, pretty much top one out around the 500hp mark .the 6spd is the weak point, a couple missed shifts or money shifts and youre buying/building a new one.

    2 wastegates,intercooler, intercooler piping, BOV,injectors,wiring harness,ecu,tuning,clutch /flywheel kit, trans with lsd,axles,clutch cable,motor mount adapters/brackets...
There is another 10-15k right there.
    I am about to do a k24a2 gt3582r in a 2004 rx8.
I figure if I spend wisely and shop carefully I can do the entire build (traded 2 amps and a sub for the rx8) for under 10k.
Granted it will only be around 500-700 whp but I just can't see spending a lot of money where you did for a turbo car. N/A...you have to pay to play...that is a fact!
    Cams? Any valve headwork?
A lot of what you did I will do but honestly at around half the cost.
    I am stuck on sleeves.
This is a pretty big expenditure and I am seeing some stock bottom end k24's doing 700 whp.
I do plan on upgrading pistons and rods.
Do you think that building this engine at this level is worth the financial investment.
I mean to say... you can get around 700hp for less than half of what you spent.
I really would like to know your opinion.
If it was money coming out of your pocket how far would you have gone in the build?
    Thanks

Was his sharpie technique on the main bolts because they were torque to yeild bolts? I've never done that on my main caps. I always just stop when the wrench clicks.

    • @bradmetts1848
      @bradmetts1848 Před 4 lety +2

I dont know what torque to yield means. But what this guy did is called one flat turn. Do this at work. Torque to spec then next step is tighten one bolt head flat (1/3 of a turn), Our engine books say to do that.
The proper term is called "turn of nut method". More reliable torque method for very high stress connections. For more info and actual calculations Google turn of nut method.

It's far from being a ''setup'', it's still just an engine. There's still no fuel system, west gate, plumbing, ECU, wiring, drivetrain, cooling system, intercooler, and the list goes on. I'd like to know much it cost TOTAL.

I need you to build me a Kswap but I need more of a budget build. K24/K20 with a manual transmission. I really wished you boys were closer to NC so I could just use your shop. I really appreciate your attention to detail. If you know of anyone closer to NC to help in my build, let me know. So many shops but who can you really trust to do the work correctly.
