    Martin O'Neil is an honest character

  • @liamdevine8063
    @liamdevine8063 Před 10 měsíci +27

    Martin O'Neil's time at Celtic may look comparable to Brendan's on paper but in reality it was not. Rangers weren't just in charge they were absolutely dominant. Celtic had not had a good and consistent team in almost 20 years. Martin O'Neil dragged that Celtic side from the gutter with his sheer presence and incredible leadership. There was never any way O'Neil could return and get even close to his first spell, that truly was a moment in time and a beautiful one at that.

    • @conner1260
      @conner1260 Před 10 měsíci +4

      Martin O’Neil went against a very strong rangers side who were financially doping and still won a treble. Not including getting Celtic to a European final and quarter final and knocking teams like ajax out of the champions league. Even beat juventus back then too.

    • @dougmasters4579

      @@conner1260 Well said. MON's Euro record was fantastic. 9 points in his first shot at the Champions League groups. A season later he reached a Euro final, then n the next season in the CL saw two of the most dominant performances I've seen from a Celtic side - the second half against Lyon, and the first half vs Anderlecht - utterly destroyed these two teams, they were shellshocked. It's a pity MON didn't recognize a good goalie or that Bobo Balde was a liability in the biggest games.... if he fixed those two positions we could've won in Seville and gone far in the CL.

    • @liamdevine8063
      @liamdevine8063 Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@conner1260 He won a treble and followed hat up with a title. On his watch Rangers won two titles but one by a single goal and another when Celtic conceded last minute. The three he won against (as you corecetly put, it doped up) Rangers he absolutely obliterated them. That' won't necessarily be clear from the recod books but to anyone who lived it (winning every single game against them in 03-04 for example) will tell you how important that was. We had won a title in 98, not since 1988 had we truly dominated Scottish football and O'Neil did that. The long term consequence was the full scale annihilation, demise, death, liquidationg whatever you call it of Rangers. Beyond unthinkable the day he took over in 2001.

      Fair point stephenkelly7413. From Season 2000/2001 until Season 2004/2004 Martin O-Neill did do well over his time span. However he did inherit players like wee Henke via Vimyanson, & Wee Lubo via Dr Joe, & Stillian Petrov via Barnes & Dalgliesh, & other useful players as well. Wee MON spent around 30 Million in his first Season, bringing in players like Chris Sutton/John Hartson/Alan Thompson/Neil Lennon/Joos Valharen/Big Bobo is going to get you, & so on. Wee Henke scored 53 Goals in Season 2000/2001 winning the UEFA Golden Boot that Season as well. & who can forget Saville 2003, where MON's Team just lost out, after Extra Time, against the Manager (Jose Marino) of Porto, who went on the following Season, to win the Champions League with the same side. I'm sure MON even nowadays, still has very fond memories of his time @ the helm of CFC, & he was seen carying the SPL Trophy @ CP just a few short weeks away. So he still has our Club in his heart, that's for sure Hail ! Hail ! & COYBIG 😁😁

If you guys think that Scottish Football, the SPFL is a Backwater League/ A Pub Teams League, & It's a piece of Cake, easy-easy a stroll on the park. Then why don't you ask your favourite Club's/Supporters & Fans of those so-called Clubs, that you like, ask them to apply too, & get into the SPFL in that case? If it's so easy. However your favourite Club's, would have to work their way through all the Scottish Divisions, to eventually get into the top devision. (The SPL) No bye-pass Go ! No £2,000,000 for doing so ! & Earn your way through all the Scottish Leagues, & to rightfully play in the SPL, it's a walk in the Park, yes? a piece of cake? Fair's- Fair, Yes? After all, you would expect Celtic & Rangers to go through the same process, if they wanted to enter into the English Devisions. I will leave that thought with you !

      It was summer 2002, iirc. And having huns sneaking into his garden at night and putting up union flags had a factor in MON's reasoning for leaving. MON is the second most important manager in Celtic's history. Yes, he had two final day collapses in the league, but looking at it in another way, he won 3 out of 5 leagues against the most dominant rangers team in history (which we now know was cheating with illegal use of EBT's), and, most importantly for me, he made Celtic a force again in Europe for the first time since jock stein.

  • @Broonzied
    @Broonzied Před 10 měsíci

    I think it is a bit panicky of Celtic and a mistake on Rodgers part to re-unite. When he was last there Celtic had no serious domestic competition and did very little in Europe. Rangers are much stronger now and will be competitive. The fans will not give him benefit of doubt if things do not go well right from the start and will be on his back in a flash. These second comings very rarely work out.

    To be honest the Scottish Premier League will always be a two horse race for the title between Celtic and Rangers. It's an absolute joke. It's an easy ride and any manager will look good in charge of either team. Steven Gerrard did it with Rangers and Brendan Rogers did it with Celtic. And look what happened to them when they chose to manage a club in the EPL, an actual competitive league. Neither of them survived to the end of their contracts. Brendan bailed on Leicester, who are now a Championship side! And Steven got sacked from Aston Villa after the club only won 2 of their opening 12 games at the start of last season. I've noticed they didn't offer to manage any of the other 10 teams. Says it all, really.

    Rodgers should never have been brought back to Celtic again after his walking away half way through an important season and Celtic had rangers under Gerrard not so long in his job coming to Celtic park next game ..Gerrard picked rangers up and done fine for them time he was there ..Rodgers walked away as said half way through the season what a time to have left club and left club at that moment in time when we had rangers next game up and also left Celtic without a Manager at that time . Should never have been brought back . Do not like the guy at all and never shall for such .
    And Rodgers was only good in Scotland only
    his 1st time in job because rangers then were terrible .. In Europe Rodgers was hopeless and handed Celtic some of worst results we have had in Europe his first time and now 2nd time in worst results again in Europe and dont forget his results with leicester in Europe again were rubbish . He is not good enough a manager and only becaus eof his being irish is why yon Desmond guy got him back in for 2nd time of asking . If left to me is get rid of lot of them irish guys out door not to be trusted .
    As for Martin Oneill here good manager for Celtic although lets be honest he received more millions to spend than any other Celtic manager at time and i belive Desmond irish and Martin Oneill irish and now Rodgers irish they are in favour of Desmond the main money man at the club . why did Rodgers get asked to come back once sacked as he was at leicester no matter what u try cover up . Because Desmond got one of his irish mates back into a job . Not good enough at all . Celtic board are terrible and i have like thousands of Celtic fans no time for the board at Celtic . Gordon Strachan never received millions them guys had and got Celtic into last 16 in Champions league twice sure on a shoe string of a budget ..

Your not English but here is another video putting down scottish football. Everyone in football knows how big Celtic and Rangers are. But they cant tell the truth.
