City can't even fill their stadium for the Champions League.
Man Utd, Liverpool, Rangers, Celtic
4 biggest clubs in the UK
Exactly right.
Spot on. I don't think people down south realise how big the Old Firm is. Huge fan base.
What I will say is, with my experience down south, I've seen a lot more Arsenal strips kicking about. Arsenal are a massive club, but Man Utd and Liverpool are in a different level.
Arsenal, even Spurs have a bigger fan base abroad than the Scotch teams though.
â@@raijinenel3116no they dont. Not even close.
We are talking about big clubs not dead clubs. So you can leave sevco out of the conversation. Celtic have won more trophies in one season than sevco have won in their entire history.
From a rangers fan celtic are a bigger club than city
City have 52.8 million followers on instagram, Celtic have less than a million!. Where are all those Celtic fans?? They donât use social media in this day and age????
So we are going with instagram followers now đ Iâve been to many countryâs but never saw a Man City pub, plenty of Celtic pubs, in fact thereâs Celtic holidays destinations like Santa Ponsa.
â@@greenockbhoy7347 lol There are definitely City themed pubs the world over but that's a worse way to measure it than social media counts(both City and Liverpool have over 131 million followers across the four main social media platforms of Insta, FB, X, TikTok btw) because it generally only tells you who the owner supports. He'd have very few customers if it was exclusive, you can't have thought this out. Every argument these anti-city nonsense posts throw up is superficial, in the sense that they offer flimsy measures to gauge fan counts. Such as: First hand visual accounts of counting shirts on holidays, number of supporters clubs globally(half could be empty, it doesn't tell us much at all), now themed pubs... My word, talk about scraping the barrel lol. I can tell you this, many blues have counted more City shirts than United Liverpool shirts in recent years while on their jollies... but they don't get carried away because there's probably cognitive bias at play here because obviously there are more United and Liverpool fans still. Just something for you to think about. Or just carry on deluding yourself with these flimsy measure while ignoring all the accepted ones such as broadcast viewing numbers, shirt sales, social media accounts, number of unique visitors to the stadium per season perhaps?(haven't even looked but I'm guessing City would trounce Celtic). More recent figures for you from the M.E.N 99% of the City fanbase now resides outside of the UK, citizens membership subscriptions went up 108% last year on the year before....City have been the fastest growing club in world football for over a decade... But Celtic are still bigger... When Scottish football itself isn't relevant globally(harsh but true), how can you begin to believe that?
@@adeo767..I wonder where all those City fans were before the mega millionaires turned ..Itâll be the same for Newcastle in a few years. Celtic have a bigger history.

Am a Celtic fan , weâre the only club in world football to sweep everything in 67 , we done a quadruple , we also scooped the British sports personality award in that year , this achievement will never ever be repeated, itâs now recognised by UEFA as the greatest achievement in club football, and Celtic stand alone in this exclusive club all on there own , our trophy haul is incredible, weâve racked up 9 league championship in a row twice , 8 trebles , Celtic are one of only five clubs in the world to have won over 100 trophies.[3] The club has won the Scottish league championship 53 times, most recently in 2022-23, the Scottish Cup 41 times and the Scottish League Cup 21 times. The club's greatest season was 1966-67, when Celtic became the first British team to win the European Cup, also winning the Scottish league championship, the Scottish Cup, the League Cup and the Glasgow Cup. Celtic also reached the 1970 European Cup Final and the 2003 UEFA Cup Final, losing in both.
Celtic have a long-standing fierce rivalry with Rangers and, together, the clubs are known as the Old Firm. Their matches against each other are regarded as among the world's biggest football derbies. The club's fanbase was estimated in 2003 as being around 9 million worldwide and there are more than 160 Celtic supporters clubs in over 20 countries. An estimated 80,000 fans travelled to Seville for the 2003 UEFA Cup Final, and their "extraordinarily loyal and sporting behaviour" in spite of defeat earned the club Fair Play awards from FIFA and UEFA, respectively., so the question is â yes weâre a bigger club than Man City ,

Passionate and lifelong - City were setting record attendances during their dark days and getting larger crowds than most of the Premier League.
City also have the highest percentage of fans who have been going 25 years+ in the Premier League.

You can very easily define which clubs are bigger than other. You have to actually put some time and anlytics and data behind but it can be done. You use a weighted matrix with a range of categories and scoring against each, define which are the most important and least important factors, use some common sense to set a baseline and then you can make tweaks but you'll actually have a tool that works. Me and some friends did this years back rather than being bored at work, I've made a start at recreating it but it takes time and I have a day job. If someone who actually works in football wanted to do this it is very doable but sports journalist would rather debate over nothing than actual do the work.
Using a single definition to define what is a big club or which is bigger than another makes no sense as shown here. If Man City win 20 Champions Leagues, make more money than any other club in the world, any other kind of metric but if you go to South Africa and don't see random people wearing a Man City shirt makes them a small club? No substance behind that. History, recent history, trophys, potential, revenue, tv viewers, season ticket holders, stadium capacity, cultural impact, general audience recognition, etc etc. ALL of these things and more determine what makes the club a certain size, it never boils down to 1 or 2 things.
Kids in Africa wearing old Liverpool, ManU, or Arsenal shirts from the 90âs is not necessarily because they support those teams sometimes it just used clothing they bought. I see kids in Africa wearing NFL or NBA jerseys all the time and kids donât know anything about American football
That's because those shirts are giving away. Otherwise, they won't use them

Celtic are the only club in the world supported by a nation- Republic of Ireland!
Would be great if people just supported their local team instead of supporting clubs that win all the time who are in different cityâs countries and even continents. Even Goldstein a Londoner who supports Man Utd, I mean there is plenty of London clubs to choose from
the appeal of the premiership teams is due mainly to the world wide saturation of their matches and the money that has been pumped into it .prior to that a lot of these clubs were not anythin special
I think theres a difference between a big club and a current successful club, a big club has heritage, history, an array of legendary players and a global reach, Cityâs success is too recent for them to be considered up there with Man utd, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich. But like Andy said it doesnât really matter because the here and now is whats important to fans, and right now city might not be the biggest but they are the best.
So when City were winning trophies in the 60s and 70s, had full internationals in the side, were playing in front of the 3rd biggest crowds in the country, does that not count as history or âheritageâ?
What about when City set the attendance record for a game in England outside of Wembley? Still stands at 84,500?

The Brits think history matter more than what's currently happening and it's not that way all over. It's not as though they organically grew and cultivated a following. It was an adrenaline injection of Arab money that allowed them to succeed. But that's only been for a few years. Celtic are the opposite. Grass roots to the core and genuine supporters clubs all around the world. Could they hope to be as successful as Man City? No chance. Money talks. But Celtic are a huge club. They just so happen to play in a league devoid of meaningful investment.
What is the obsession with how "big" a club is? If you're not winning in the present and all you have is your past, you're nothing more than a has-been trying to make your irrelevant club relevant in the present. Rather pathetic and sad when you think about it.
The whole point of winning in the now is to have something to look at in the past. They're two sides of the same coin. Despite what you think, history is important.
True, it's like an aging flim star still thinking they are the box office draw they were in the golden age.
That's like saying Barcelona aren't a big club as they ain't won nowt for a couple of seasons đđđ
Absolutely savage way of putting it... but pretty much spot on đ
What absolute nonsense. All you have is history. Thatâs it. Thatâs all any club has.
Course they are bigger than City!!!! Celtic have been a big club from before a 10 year stint with a massive fan base!!!! Big clubs around the world know that they are abit different and unique and have their own identity and a bit of originality.
What do city have a mega rich state that own them and played with them as a toy and pumped so much money into them to get success in such a short space of time but forgetting the city have never ever been a big club ever before it struggling to stay in the league small crowds and still have a small fan base.
Only have to watch a game on the tele to see massive blocks empty
IMO City's legacy will always have a dent in it because of the charges linked to them regardless of whether they beat the charges or not. Also their lack of urgency to deal with the charges and put it behind them is also not helping their cause. Again this is merely my opinion.
Both the old Firm are bigger than City
City will be viewed similarly to Lance Armstrong long term, financially doped championships that have an asterisk beside them.
What about Declan Rice last summer Andy? He was linked with both Arsenal and City but went to Arsenal because he's 1st name on the team sheet every week whereas Declan Rice would only be a squad player at City.
I have seen many people wearing Chelsea jersey in Europe, India and Australia.. Not sure what Andy is talking about..
Big is totally subjective unless you are talking in terms of how many supporters a club has across the world.
Letâs not conflate successful with big or historic.
The uk is full of teams that are historic which makes them big in the eyes of those who support them. The question should be one about success and not size. The reason people struggle with the idea of city being big is because their success is recent.
Manchester City are a richer club than Celtic.
Celtic are a bigger club than Manchester City.
Many people donât know the difference.
Put it this way, if Celtic were administrated down to the bottom tier of Scottish football in League Two and had to go and play at a local park, Celtic would still have tens of thousands fans turning up to their games. If Manchester City lost their dirty oil billions and got relegated to the bottom tier of English football they would have absolutely no fans.
THAT is difference between a BIG club and a RICH club.
Just not true though is it đ
A big club in Scotland. For the rest of us, Celtic are as relevant as Red Star Belgrade or Rosenborg. Most people outside Scotland donât care about the Scottish league.
@@Marais-cu3vo I can guarantee you there will easily be more Celtic pubs outside the UK than Manchester City pubs
@@celticfan67 city had massive turnout in the lower divisions already
@@jaymuny6126 not compared to Celtic they didnât
lol get that kid off the air, the best players in the world? who wanted bernardo silva before city? who wanted kdb, gundogan, fernandiho, silva, aguero, akanji, ake, rodri and many many more?? how much did city pay for them? lol narratives trying to be made on the fly but people that know about the game know about the brilliance of what man city is doing
the older gen will think that, the new one wont think the same.and so time goes on.
I agree and hate Celtic with a passion but how is this even a debate big club doesnât mean bought trophies rangers and celtic are bigger than most clubs in the uk with the exception of maybe man united and Liverpool wasnât that long ago Glasgow was the only city in Britain with 3 stadiums with a capacity of over 50 thousand rangers fans in Manchester in 2008 was the biggest movement of people since the Great War đ
Haaland is a citizen of Rudigers pocket
Not a fan of Celtic, but he's right. History counts.
He's not wrong
Man City don't rank as a Top 10 club in European Football History because the following clubs are bigger than City:
Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus, Ajax, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal.
That's like saying the sun will rise tomorrow, there are lots of clubs in England that are way bigger than man city, it's a div 3 club
Ask Noel Gallagher he will say the same as Andy
- If no Club in History
- Against so much hate
- Against Establishment
- Succeeded as Sensationally as City
- City are Biggest Club in History,no?đ
Always knew Andy was against Chelsea through his commentary, now proved...
who cares? As a boro fan I am pleased to watch the entertaining football Citeh produce. Their fans that stood with them in div 1 are now living the dream.
100 % right
Celtic đ oh soooo funny made my day
Go and educate yourself on the Old Firn, you will soon see how big they are, both of their fanbases absolutely dwarfs almost every club in England.
1. Mancheter United
2. Liverpool
3. Celtic
4. Rangers
5. The rest...
Every trophy won by an English team after 1992 should have an asterisk on it.
You have well supported clubs, and you have successful clubs. If you are historically or currently successful and well supported then, in my opinion, you can be called a big club.
Imagine if Bournemouth were as successful as City but still play in front of 12000 fans every week, they're not a big club are they. You need both.
Depends on the definition of big club, finances or legacy and support base. If the latter celtic are miles ahead of city
