Once your above league one the refs are told who to favour in each game. Thats how they can get cup finals etc with the biggest tv appeal.
It’s not totally match fixing but they enable a team as much as possible for this to happen. Look at recent decisions in that light and you’ll see. This comes from a ref btw. Forest have been earmarked for the relegation scrap all season because the owner is far more unpopular than any other team at the bottom.

We just want it to be fair, and you're right Simon, the ref has his own eyes to make decisions and he has VAR as his other tools, if he doesn't see it, for instance, if players were in his way, there was too much going on or it was too fast for him to call it then he should call upon their assistance, but when they make glaringly obvious mistakes and there is no consistency, and they don't call upon those tools then it does bring up all sorts of ridiculous conspiracy theories. Like Casemiro's shoulder grabbed that the Crystal Palace player lent into and laughed, it looked like he was grabbing his neck but when you see it on the screen after the VAR team have looked at it it didn't deserve a red card, but he still gets a 3 match ban, they don't take it back because Manchester United knew that if they contested it they wouldn't rescind it, because they haven't done in the past, and then the other week a Wolves (was it?) player directly grabs Fernandes around the neck and he gets nothing, VAR don't even look at it, he doesn't even get a yellow, or a ban even after the game has finished and everyone is talking about how bad it was. 2 clear examples of the reason why conspiracy theories come up and if you watch a lot of Manchester United's decisions against them it really doesn't look good for the officiating system in place. Nottingham Forest do have a case for them not being given, I watched that game live and watched every angle for all of them and got to the stage where I was thinking to myself, and been thinking for a while now for many years, there is just no consistency and wondering whether some wealthy clubs pay the officials to throw games because some are at crucial times when games can, or could've changed quite dramatically.
So, either the officials need to be paid more or we need to get ex players in officiating roles to teach officials how the game is played and not from just the rulebook.

Yes. They are making judgements, but do they not see shirt pulls, or a player going through their opponent before making contact with the ball. Some are judgements but even there, there should be a standard across all officials.

Yes, referees should have to call for VAR, not the other way around. Weak refs who need VAR all the time would then get exposed and good refs who can do their jobs without VAR would be elevated. Simple.

I'm sorry but you can't have it both ways... If you are happy the integrity is there then any ref can be in charge of any club. The fact the rule is in place shows there is a concern about impartiality. So either scrap that rule or become more strict with it. Don't say it's not an issue

    1. The on-field referee should be able to look at a replay whenever he wants.
    2. VAR should simply set the footage where the referee asks for it to be, but offer no opinion.
    3. No more offside lines... If the VAR cannot call it as off-side with the naked eye, then it's not offside... What attacking player benefits from being 2cm onside?

Feel all these mini rules/laws referees have to adhere to is bollock trying to make football super complicated. If hits hand = hand ball unless ridiculously close, take someone’s legs from behind = penalty or free kick get it back to being simple! Also too technical on offsides it’s nonsense

I think danny is being generous saying only one of them where pens or should of been personally I am more in agreement with souness that all three were pens really ok the first one you could argue either way if you want to however the other two are both stonewall for me I dont care what the law says your arm shouldnt be there and surely you would expect that to be given and the second one was even worse var described it as a coming together đŸ€Ł he actaually kicks through the back of hudson- odoi surely it aint that difficult to notice thatđŸ€Ł The one that made me laugh most recently was in the north london derby the penalty spurs were given ok they got that decision correct the worrying thing for me with that one it took var intervention to get that correct it looked like a simple decision to give a pen to me live the refs on the pitch need to do better aswell not only varđŸ€”

Why can NF not question the validity of a VAR official, when the PGMOL have exactly the same validity question in their own determination of referees. The only question is where the line is drawn. Humans are humans, and we shouldn't be allowing there to be any question if VAR are making multi million dollar decisions. Not fair on the clubs AND not fair on the officials. No official who's own club (significantly) benefits from the outcome ot a game should be officiating said game. Whether that's one of the clubs or another club that is involved (and we are talking HUGE impact here), it doesn't matter. Start by picking impartial officials...full stop. Then Noone would have the chance to question the officials' bias. Can anyone (Simon) honestly say that there isn't a slight chance that given the Referees narrative, that a VAR official with skin in the game wouldn't conveniently side with the ref. Who the hell are you kidding!
