- We took the Fox Body Fairmont out for a little test drive. This thing sounds wicked and launches like crazy. The exhaust setup includes a set of MAC long tube headers, a modified BBK x-pipe, and Jones mufflers coupled with a set of Pipes flow tubes. The 4.6L Mustang 3V engine is being run by the Ford Racing Controls Pack (M-6017-463V).

That's like the most PERFECT exhaust note that has ever existed.
pondmatter Thanks! This is one mean Fairmont!
3 valve fords sound soooo
Gooood
the 4.6 is the most badass small block ever made ever
I have a mild 302w with custom exhaust and this Fairmont sounds better.. MEANEST V8 EXHAUST NOTE EVER!
Awesome Box Top Fairmont, My dad has two Fairmont's right now a 1980 Sport Coupe and a 1981 Wagon. We hope to follow your build in the 1980 Coupe, And BTW when i had my 1993 Mustang GT i would only buy stuff from you guy's.
Dude nice fairmont .. badass status
Damn I love the sound of that. Got a bad ass growl to it!
i love these fairmonts!!! build more of these people!!!
I love this. I have a 1980, same body style. It has the 200/6. I'd love to put that motor in my car!!!
Yep! 1978 to 1994 was a Fox. Any 2-o-r4 door mid size was a fox. The one that's the rarest is what is called the "baby LTD" . From what I remember, was a four door mustang police interceptor. Check e-bay from time to time, they show up.
This is the most fastest hot rod Fairmont that I ever saw no play with this one no Mustang can't keep up with this
love this actually thinking about getting a fairmont and doing something kool with it like this
I want this Fairmont sooo bad. Sick ride.
Mike M Thanks so much!!
ɷɷɷ Heeyy Friendds I Have Found Working Online Hacck Visit : - t.co/PUo8ZzE9k0
That fuel pump makes a racket.
it hooks up good as hell. i like that.
i have a '79 2.3 fairmont. this is my dream right here! what's cool is that they're sleepers! no one knows what you have under there ;)
Thank you for keeping it all Ford.
The Fairmont share the same fox body as the Mustang. The Fox platform was introduced in 78 for the Fairmont. The Fox platform used unibody construction. Due to the wide variety of cars using the Fox platform from its introduction, it was designed to accommodate 4-cylinder (naturally aspirated and turbocharged), I6, V6, and V8 engines. List of Fox bidied cars : Lincoln Versaille, Capri, 84-92 Lincoln Mark VII, 80-88 Cougar, 80-88 T-Bird, 83-86 Granada/LTD etc...
Man that car sounds good!!!!
bad ass.i just did a 5.0 in my 4 door fairmont and it hauls ass, that thng hs to be quick as hell.
L.R.S !!! i've bought so much stuff from them!! Great company!
Excellent...had a 78 fairmont futura for a while, but always loved the boxier fairmont better....fords answer to the malibu
@latemodelrestoration im gonna have to talk to you about some issues when they come up. I saw the guide and it is insanely detailed. Going to use it for sure. defiantly wouldnt want to get my ass kicked by you fairmont
That is Awsome Man!!
@outlawracer2229 yup the fox body mustang parts will fit because the fairmont was the first fox body.
sick as hell
That's pretty bad ass!
It's for sale on eBay too. Has different wheels, badges, and the lettering is removed. Just search Ford Fairmont on ebay and it's easy to find.
Car sounds so wicked. I could only dream of my 82 GT sounding that good. Car looks fantastic. Only thing is I dont like is the houling whine of the fuel pump.
what did you do for the fuel system
Beautiful car
que buen auto esta impecable
Which color code looks nice
Yeah, those high rev modular motors LOVE gears...
Do you guys know if the aftermarket subframe connectors fit the Fairmonts, I called them and they said they aren't sure it is the same wheelbase, etc. Thanks! Nice care!. Got one for me to work on now!
Cool. Whatcha got for a trans. and diff in that thing??? Would have been even cooler in the Fairmont Futura Sport Coupe or the Mercury Zephyr Z-7 Sport Coupe.
How much horsepower and what times was it running?
im planning on doing the same to my mustang. how hard was it to get the computer and everything to fit
I'll take the 1995 Cobra R on the left at 2:50 ...LOL!!! Seriously though, this video put a smile on my face this morning...LOL!!! Thanks fellas!
I am doing a Fox body 86 project I will install a 3V 4.6 I have the harness computer saw what I need is to fix the harness who can repair it Thanks
Why it sounds like a Vuvuzela when idle? where is that sound coming from??
is that loud humming noise the fuel pump???
Nice fairmont
Have you dynoed it? 0-60 and quarter mile time/speed please
Indeed thats some deep philosophical shit.Good song too.
@jmann229
try 3100 with driver and 12.13 @ 114 on a dot drag radial. Look for 11's on slicks...
very nice , Its definitely responsive , are you guys using a hand held tuner or was it chipped
Wow! Has it been down the strip yet? Looks and sounds great...other than the fuel pump, that is. How come you didn't use the LTD tank & in-tank fuel pump?
nice car, great soung
People don't realize how much of a sleeper the Fairmont is. Just about all Mustang componets will fit it (Fox body style) but the Fairmont weights about 750 lbs less. I know, I use to race a Fairmont with a built 5.0 complete with 8 point cage! Besides, a Fairmont won Pinks All-Out in Mich!
badass car...
Sooooo...are there track times with that thing yet?
That exhaust note is sick! What exhaust setup is it running?
Which Jones' mufflers are those? They sound eerily like Flowmaster 40 series. If they are a straight through design, I'll be getting some of those instead for my turbo 5.0. This Fairmont sounds sick. Nice car overall and very clean too. Thanks for posting.
That 4.6L SOHC 3V V8 sounds badass.
Badass it would look good with a Mercury grill!
Still efi or did you opt for a carb? Friend of mine has a quad cam 4.6 with a Holley carb and a set of Big Mutha Thumpr cams and springs and that thing will move on out. I don't care what anyone says....I love the Mod Motors. I currently have a 99 Gt and the motor is getting a little tired so this winter I plan on a complete rebuild...possibly even stroke it and add a Paxton Novi or maybe a small Hellion Turbo
I know. You should help me find one in the Western North Carolina area
i think my 79 fox body wont mind a new 4.6l heart transplant. Plus good learning experience since im only 17
So sweet.
What about taking the thunder bird super coupe motor and putting it in a mustang. That would be beast.
whats the car run 7.00 ???
What was the original motor for this car? Sounds amazing
I think this is the same Boxtop I went to look at and was located in Somerset massachussetts and was going to trade my 2002 camaro but we couldn't come to an agreement .
CAPTAINBLUFISHMONSTER it is and it’s had a few owners since then, lol
First, let me tell you that this car sounds PERFECT, even better than Flows. I've never even heard of jones mufflers, but I'm in love with the sound. Which model are you using? Also, what's the wet weight on that Fairmont? Keep up the good work and the amazing support you offer the Fox community!
love it
i have the 3v 4.6 in my p71... doesn't quite sound like that
Can't say I'm an expert on it, but the owner of a Fairmont coupe I was considering mentioned having an LTD tank w/pump for doing a 5.0 EFI swap. I'm guessing that somewhere in the 83-86 years, EFI was offered, maybe on the LX or SSP models? Since it's still Fox body, it should be the same. If that route works, please let me know. I'm still looking for the right Fairmont & I like submerged fuel pumps way more than external, especially for safety reasons.
@ jmann229 - How do you figure the 4.6 is "underpowered"? It's a good SB that makes gobs of power in all the places the pushrod 302 doesn't. I used to dislike the 4.6 too....till I bought one. Then there was no turning back, great engines those mod motors are (read in a Yoda voice).
NIIIIIIIIIICE!
SCT SF3 Hand Held Tuner
Is there a build list or thread somewhere with pricing? I'm considering doing a modular motor swap to a Fox platform also and can't decide on the 3-valve like the Fairmont build or picking up a used 4-valve car and taking the powertrain out of it.
CanaanManley You can get more information on this build here - www.latemodelrestoration.com/products/Fox-Body-Fairmont-3V-Motor-Swap . As for pricing, you can pick up used 3v engines in a junk yard for under $2k. You will need the controls pack seen in the link in the description. Beyond that will depend on your transmission set up and other mods you choose to go with.
What year is the Fairmont in? My guess would be a 1978-80
I had a 1980 Fairmont that I bracket raced and had the same color as yours expect it was a 2.3 4-cyl and Auto. Paid $300 bucks for it a raced it 6 times. Ran a 13.00 Second time on the 1/8 lol.
Fuck yeah!
@petersdraggon fairmonts should bolt up to any 79-2004 Mustang without much hassle.
what's that sound???
Any plans to sell that car?
What is that annoying wine noise coming from the car that would drive me absolutely crazy so what is it and how do you fix it
Walbro fuel pumps are noisy as hell
SWEET ! how does it handle the Auto Cross Track ? .
-Nate
It isn't built for turns (evil grin on my face right now) It does great in a straight line.
This car is for sale on craidslist in Massachusetts southcoast. Right now it says Texas car in the ad they want 13 k for it
best sounding ford period i have owned one mustang a 91 with a built 5.0 roughly 380hp with 3inch exhaust single chambers with turndowns didnt sound anywhere near that good
is it a holley blue or an arromotive? the list of pumps options is endless. why don'y u just find wrecked 05 unless u need more psi.malibu killer! lol and wonder if that was cop in the crwn vic :) roasty jacks.Ive been wnating to pit a 3v in my 85gt since 05 came out cause 2 of my 5 oh vlvs looked like magic mushys when I Bought back in 03, a bronco35 is goin in.stock for now solid cam l8r on.
Very very cool swap! for the moeny Id have gone 32V but to each their own....btw sounds terrible on decel...its a mustang motor so it should sound a hell of a lot better on accel and decel.
I've got a 4.6 DOHC waiting for a home in a Fairmont Wagon.
@0:57 Was I the only one like "Oh S*** he's ganna hit the gate!"
Whats that whine noise? Fuel pump? That would drive me insane...
Yep! Here is more information on the fuel system setup: lmr.com/products/Fox-Body-Fairmont-3V-Motor-Swap-FRPP-Controls-Pack-Fuel-Install
-Landan
Does anyone know if a 5.0 Coyote will fit for a swap into a Fairmont like this?
+Juan Huerta it should, people have done foxbody mustang coyote swaps, I believe there is some fitment issues and problems regarding the power steering
Juan Huerta yes it will. Just need a mod motor k member if I remember right
Is that the fuel pump whining like that?
Yes.
So basically the 79-93 foxbodys mustangs are just ford fairmonts and didn't really started making the mustang 94 and up
BRENDAJASON1 Nope 94-04 are foxbody too
Eternal Mesh didn't know that. Cause the 79-93 looks more like the fairmonts cause of the square type body's
BRENDAJASON1 The foxbody was diverse that's why I love them 👍 and sorry for that late response
At Least they weren't pintos like the '74
Id like to 3v a Thundebird!
Sounds like a walbro fuel pump
I'd much rather have on of these than a mustang....rarer, and a more solid look...old school
FUCKING SICK!!!!!!!
built ford tough....with FORD STUFF!
i just got a old Fairmont today and its been siting for 5 years but it runs great and drives great but where putting it in a demo derby
sounds great!! wanna trade for a 90"lx 5.0??lol
lol thats a loud ass fuel pump..Nice sleeper..
named after a vw can you believe it!!!
put one in a focus then i will be impressed!!!
