- How to fit a sleeved letter plate by www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/for...
This video shows what you can do if your existing letter box hole in a wooden door is too big. Fitting a sleeved letter plate which are normally used on PVC doors is a good option to overcome the problem. - Jak na to + styl
Thankyou.
Ive found when even using smaller dia bits, like 5 and 6mm,on laminate covered wood it can totally ruin it when it comes through the other side.
For this reason i always try and use brad point drill bits on wood from now on.
Thanks again...!
Hi again,
Is the reason,as also in your door viewer video, that you stop drilling all the way through, then reverse the bit and drill from the other side,to prevent the wood splintering when you break through to the other side?
As usual,great videos...
Always the best instructional videos.
I appreciate that!
That video was great - could I ask where you purchased the letter plat you used? It is the exact same one that I need to replace and I can't find any manufacturer's marks to help find a supplier.
I think I bought it from either Toolstation, or screwfix
Not sure if this helps- fave.co/3tURmow
Very helpful video. Thanks
You are welcome
Thanks for the comment 👍
Should have used the gasket as the template
It's a bit late now. That door is being replaced soon ;-)
Thanks for the comment
Thanks you.
Hi my husband is installing a letter plate the same as the one you are working on,
The difference is he is installing it through the porch wall which is two brick thick with a cavity between the two bricks…..I was wondering what we can use between the two letter plates to stop mail falling down the cavity?
Thanks
Sheila
Hi Sheila,
You might be able to get a sleeve/liner, but after doing a quick search I could not find one.
I think most people buy a dedicated kit, which includes a metal liner.
Thanks for the comment 👍
I have an identical letterbox letterplate, our storms and wind rattle the hell out of it. Draught proof it certainly is not!
You can get some that close and have a magnetic flap at the back
Thanks for the comment 👍
You missed one critical piece of information. The internal sleeves come in 2 depths. Usually 20-40mm and 40-80mm. You need to get the right depth depending on the thickness of your door. Aparr from that a very useful video. Thanks
