I will forever miss when trucks were trucks and affordable.
There was a time back in the 80s and 90s when you could buy a truck for less than a comparable car. The truck was built better and would last longer than the cars at the time.
@@holdenc3082 I always upgraded radios due to liking to add more sound, now if you consider it there is so much more you'd need to do because of how much they integrate into the unit. simpler times
Entry level trims are just as expensive with inflation as they were 30 years ago. People complaining that a truck with every single option isn't affordable are dumb
@@Mills117 I always could pick up a cheap truck. $1000 for example. Now try finding a great truck for that.
@Jacob Short are you telling me you could bye a nice truck 30 years ago for $1000?
Nothing says off-roading, like a super giant heavy truck, with luxury interior!
And an additional Honda Civics worth in cost. I’m not seeing it. I don’t think people actually go off road in these, they just want to look like they do.
@@phild9813 This is actually very very TRUE! The ONLY off-roading I see here in Western Canada is the slipping and sliding I see on the Coquihalla Highway or the Whistler/Blackcomb Sea-to-Sky Highway on the two inches of plowed-down snow cover as people drive to their Whistler Ski cottage or Lake Okanagan weekend house and the requisite Ice Wine wine-tasting festivals!
I have never seen so many shiny brand new GMC Sierra Denali's and F450 Superduty Duallies with barely a spec of ice or dirt on them as when I drive to Kelowna or Whistler! Around here in much of Western Canada, the old-money vehicles of Cadillac Escalade, Mercedes GL-series and Porsche Cayenne have been REPLACED almost entirely by New-Money Luxo-Barge GMC Sierra Denalis and Ford F350/F450 Platinum and Limited Edition Duallies!
They MIGHT be used to pull the odd Horse Trailer and haul the new Subzero Fridge or Inflatable Hot Tub but that's about it for the "work" they do! I would say 85% are bought for interior luxury features rather than actual work and off-roading!
If I drive to Calgary, only then do I see the "plebe's" F350 King Ranch editions doing actual work and even those are mostly pulling a goosneck witth 10 tonnes of hay for their show horses! Big trucks are the NEW versions of old-money Rolls Royce and Bentley!

@@phild9813 Most don't but some do. I take my 2022 F-350 Platinum Tremor off road every weekend! Getting desert pinstriping sucks but it is what it is.

Uhhhh...last time I checked I didn't win the $2.0 billion lottery to afford this truck. Soooo no.
But it has cool mirrors. Seriously that was the first thing he mentioned after 91k$
@@stinkyelk986 manufacturers are pricing these trucks out of the reach of the average buyer. They expect everyone to do 84 months financing as standard anymore.
@@davidyackell yes they are. The issue is they make more money catering to the rich.
@@stinkyelk986 it’s not even the rich buying these. It’s mainly middle class joes who play keeping up with the jones. Which is some what fine if you have discipline and only make a few big purchases but most have no control over expenses so yeah.

Don’t forget the $600 oil changes 💪🏻

Here’s a tip. If you have driver 1 and 2 memory presets in your Bighorn ram truck, set your mirrors down in the normal driving position and the seat to your comfort level then set memory preset 1. Next, flip up the mirrors to the towing position and adjust them accordingly for when you have a trailer connected then set driver 2 preset. Now all you need to do is press memory 1 or 2 depending on whether the mirrors are down or up. Problem solved. This is what has worked for me.
2022 and Uconnect 5 it switches driver profile with second seat position. PITA!
I have it set up like this I named the tow profile”moose mode” haha it does work great
Good tip . Never thought of that
In 2020 I purchased my ram 2500 power wagon with level 2 interior for 53k OTD.. so yes!
You lucky SOB! I want one so bad…all black level 3 but that 80k is insane
Prices are jackass insane! Regular working people can’t afford these new trucks. A lot of them are getting repo right now since we are paying out the ass for everything else now a days.
My wife and I make just shy of $400k a year and while I could buy one of these trucks, I can’t say that I could truly afford it. They can keep it.
@@holdenc3082 Crazy thing is, the majority of people who "finance" these are making a 1/4 of you and your wife's income.
The only way I see these being reasonable is if it's used for commercial work.
Maybe you can pick up a good deal on your favorite repo 🤔
I make above average money and a new truck is simply not in the cards at these prices. I’m not sure how I see so many people still buying these things - they must have no savings for retirement.
Ten year (or longer) loans
@Trevor Huisman Yep. My wife and I are in the top 5% of household incomes. But by the time we max out our retirement accounts we are far from rich. No way could we truly afford one of these trucks even though technically we could buy one cash. Most of the people driving around in these things are up to their eyeballs in debt. Imagine a $1k+ monthly car payment.
Hmm going to lean towards the lower trim. Just put options on the Tradesman and go from there. Plus having a split bench seat is better for space.
You'd be surprised an optioned up tradesmen cost more than a lower spec bighorn. It's not necessarily about the trim anymore. It's about the options to the cost.
@@Rommer2258 true, depends what packages you want to add so you have to play around and see what comes out ahead. Still even a moderately equipped Tradesman has more features than an SLT from the the 3rd gen. Whether that’s good or bad depends on the buyer’s needs and their budget
@@vr4787 The price is also over doubled for a tradesman compared to a third gen SLT. It's just getting out of hand. Plus RAM should not have increased their prices within the same model year
That's what I did
@@Rommer2258 I know, my pop got an 07 Ram 2500 5.9 Cummins SLT Mega Cab for $35k new, which would be $49k with inflation. Truck prices are just way out there.
As much as they want for trucks nowadays I might as well start living in them. Think about all the money you could save on rent or a mortgage.
$1,600 a month truck payment
Pick up trucks are luxury vehicles these days, when back in the day 20 years ago they were about being rugged and used for work etc. Some of these trucks cost nearly what I paid for my home!
If that’s bad just imagine home prices 😂
Unbelievable what trucks cost now and days. I'm a huge Ram, Mopar guy but their prices are dumb! unfortunate. 80 Grand the thing should pretty much drive it self. thank you guys for the comparison 👍
Same here. I was the only one of my friends or family that started driving Rams about 13 years ago because of what you got for the money. Now they are no different, and while I still really like them they are still using the 4th gen cab on their HD trucks. Smaller back seat and the big hump in the floor. When you have kids and a large dog that back seat is a no go. I will likely go back to Ram once they finally remedy that.
About the only thing you mentioned for off roading was the locker and tires. You can put electronic locker installed for 1500 bucks. Tire up grade another 2000. Sounds a lot better than 25,000
Great comparison. i have the 2022 Ram Echo-diesel Rebel. I shuddered at 79 thousand. i got excited when you introduced the 2500 Rebel a couple of months ago but the price difference would probably cause me to wave off f i needed a new truck. not to mention the skyrocketing price of diesel right now. thanks for the comparison
Just a fan wanting to say thanks for all the content 🔥
The answer to the question posed in your title is YES.
Options def not worth 23k more
The Rebel is more Limited based - full top grain leather seating, directional projector LED headlamps, etc. much like the 75th Anniversary PowerWagon. The Limited trim (was) $8K more than a Laramie. The Rebel is also a "Night Edition" (+$1,600). MSRP prices have gone up across the board 15-20%. It also has a rear locker. The 2500 Rebel is targeted at potential PowerWagon owners that want a diesel and higher payload and towing. Lastly, that pornstache is priceless.
The only “rebellious” aspect of this truck is the rich kid whose somehow going to get it.
This has gone beyond insanity- the only way these prices stop is for consumers to stop paying them and for banks to stop loaning stupid money (84+ month mortgages for rapidly depreciating assets). Hopefully with sky high interest rates purchasing will trend towards lower cost vehicles and force a shift from the mfgs. Don’t get me wrong, these are incredibly impressive vehicles, but are just impractical for most. I’ve always swapped my trucks every 3 years due to high yearly mileage and maximizing resale- Ill be keeping my current truck until it rots to the ground!
The next thing that they're doing is banning fossil fuel vehicles, so the EV prices will skyrocket along with used vehicle prices
Great comparison video! I really wanted the New Ram Rebel HD but for the outrageous price I'm gonna have to past.
The cost of trucks has become obscene! The MSRP on my 2020 Ram 2500 Limited MegaCab with the 6.4 Hemi, 4.10 rear end, Air suspension, sun roof and a bunch of other goodies (basically loaded), was roughly 77k. I can not even configure the same truck anymore as they have reduced content due to the chip shortage. And it seems they are no longer offering the 6.4 Hemi in the Limited and Longhorn trim levels for 2023. But when configuring a 2022, a loaded Limited (but with less than what I have) is roughly 12k more. And this is only two model years later. Who the heck can afford this anymore. Yes there is still some pent up demand. But it's only a matter of time before demand is met and the market changes. Ram is poorly positioned for when this happens. The HDs are crying for.a true 5th gen cab. The Cummins needs a trans with more gears behind it to be competitive. And the Hemi (which is a great engine, love mine) is not as competitive when compared to something like Ford's Godzilla engine. What will Rams response be? Probably to put in that Hurricane turbo straight 6 (should have invested in a modern Hemi V8), more cosmetic changes for more "Special Editions". Sad!
Everyone in the comment section can talk about how overpriced they are (which they are), but the reality is that auto makers sell them faster than they make them. There is no better real world example of the boiling frog analogy..the masses are falling behind
91k gets you a body from 2009. The good ole 6 speed. 1800 amazing lbs of payload And it’s made in Mexico. Seems like a bargain to me. 🤷🏻♂️
What you mean get you a body?
@@SuperDuty250 cab body
The price of trucks these days is ridiculous.
I’ve always loved the Power Wagons! When I first heard about the new HD rebel with the diesel I was ecstatic!! But for 90-100K….there’s just no way. You’d have to be nuts to spend that kind of money on a toy truck! Ngl I’m happy with my 21’ Ecodiesel Limited. More truck than I’ll ever need!
Might need that $23,000 for extra cost of diesel fuel??
...and more expensive oil changes, spark plug changes and cost assuming this is a work truck (typically run higher because of the thought a "business" can afford it).
@@Arabian1967Knight doesn’t have spark plugs. Doesn’t cost much more to

My heart breaks for what trucks have become. Idk what I’m going to do when I can’t find real trucks on Craigslist anymore
How is this not a real truck
@@johnmeeboer6044 they ain’t no 90s work trucks who take a beating and don’t give a shit
There is nothing on the HD Rebel that justifies a 23K price increase, and with only 15K towing, it's barely better than a light duty truck.
When will the HD Rebel vs HD Tremor comparison video be coming guys?!?! Off-road and Ike towing.
Love the $23000 mirror option on the 2023!!!
A mirror swap a grill swap and slightly larger screen both have leather both have most of the same functionality maybe the rebel has different rims ... all this shit is beautiful but I don't need anything more than a basic truck ,
I'm still waiting on the 2021 trucks
That's a lot of money for a truck. And as nice & luxurious as that 23 truck is, i don't see the 24k more price difference.
You get a 370hp Cummins and a grill. What a deal! 🤣🤣🤣
The cummins cost is 25k alone.
At this point if your going to charge 90k , can you at least give us the HO engine ? And a winch ? Sad how expensive shit has gotten for majority of people.
I love the tech they're coming out with, but I wish they'd leave the analog gauge cluster alone. We've done this before, and displays go out. What's your backup if your driver display goes to crap?
Ram lost their place in the market. The 2022 trucks went up about 7,500 bucks during the model year. Which is absurd, the price difference between a big horn and a Laramie.
I think they priced themselves out of their market personally. The diesel rebel is a cool concept but it just costs way too much money. Especially for the fact that it still has the six speed, the low output diesel and the 4th gen cab.
Gotta say, I actually do not like the all digital EVIC display in a HD towing vehicle. I feel like ram with their previous limited 7” EVIC was the best on the market. I’d be interested to know if the new one can display 12 gauges at once like the previous one did.
He is right Ford is pushing RAM and I’ll tell you price them I have a 2020 Laramie and wanted a 2500 now so I ordered a 23 Ford Lariat because better equipped and almost 4K less
It always comes down to what you want or need a truck for. For most people, these trucks probably make no sense. All they need is a half ton for decent payload and towing. But in the commercial world, things are different. We use these trucks on our ranch in Montana. Out here, you need a truck that can haul hay and equipment anywhere you need to go, which is usually a steep muddy or snow covered road, or a wet sloppy pasture. We’ve been using a Power Wagon, which always gets the job done, and now we’ll probably get a Rebel, because that truck is a beast. When the trucks are that capable, they pay for themselves.
The 3d comparison will be the TFL cheap truck choice. Looking forward to the TFL hunt for a more affordable truck.
Nice review guys, thank you. I only have one question, who can afford/justify a cost of 90K? Love the truck but say one could afford a significant down payment of 40K....then finance 50K @3.9% over 72 months...still $780 monthly payment. I wonder how much will be to much?
Great stuff. Im just waiting for the HD Off-road Shootout! IKE 15k, off-road @ Tumbleweed, and road trip miles per tank. Tremor vs Rebel vs AT4
Would the premium LED lights swap easily into the big horn? Have you looked into upgrading? I would be interested to see. Thanks!
When I checked into it. They said that I could but I would need to get an adapter harness for the halo lights
I picked up a 2019' 1500 rebel with 11k miles almost 2yrs ago 2021 for $49k. I personally think I got a steal of a deal! I love my truck!!!
In 2019 a local dealer had a 1500 quad cab 4x4 Hemi for 36k. I should have bought the truck then .... the prices are 100% insane now !
You know what’s crazy is even the cheap one is very expensive, and the expensive one is very expensive.
And I know I’ll see them EVERYWHERE. I’ll see 20 a day in addition to 20 of every other type of truck and suv that gets close to the 100k. How’s everyone got all this money????
Why has NO ONE talked about the 10k price hike in the MIDDLE of 2022
NONE of those "sure to fail" accessories are worth that obscene price. My first 3/4 ton GMC Sierra pickup, New, was $3500.00 Those were the days.
I know not all can do this, but I set my memory seat profiles the same but adjusted the mirrors. so when towing I hit seat profile 2 and the mirrors adjust and nothing else.
I had a 2020 Ram Rebel and never really had an interest for the 2500 Ram truck(mainly because the vin number start by a 3). But wow! This 2500 Diesel Rebel is a really nice truck!!!
Guys as always it was amazing video! I’m a huge fan of your Chanel!! If it is possible say hello to Brazil for me duddes 🤙🏻🇧🇷🇺🇸👊🏻
22,000 more than my first home in 2000!
I'm guessing the mirror is $1000+ to replace like prices of headlights.
I personally like the grey truck much better! Cloth, much less tech means less to go wrong. The tech is super nice but for the “average” person that tows a few times a year but needs a 3/4 ton truck I much prefer the grey one and the civic price difference would have me sold!!
Keep up the incredible work guys!!
All that money and a 68RFE "Trash Pump" Transmission. That trans was originally designed for a gasoline engine and it will not hold up to high torque long term. Why Fiat / Chrysler does not go to the Asian or better yet Allison across the line is all about money and for what they charge for these trucks thats crazy. Both Ford and GM use a 10 speed yet here we are with the RAM. These guys will never talk about these issues.
Wow those are some new improved fancy mirrors ( like the ones GM has had).
Hey guys, thanks for the videos. Does adding weight in the back of the truck help with traction in the snow?
Yes it does, I put sand bags in my bed directly over the rear axle
Good set of all season snowflaked tires or even better winter tires I find does the trick for winter driving. No need to put weight in the box. Turn four wheel drive on when taking off and put her back in two wheel drive when at speed. That is unless it's a bad snow storm then four wheel drive does the job. I like BF Goodrich KO2 tires. Quiet, excellent ride, tackle rain, snow, sand, mud and asphalt with ease.
For real value save another 10K and just get the 6.4L Hemi for the Big Horn. Payload will go up to near 3,000lbs and towing only drops to like 16K pounds. In the Cummins if you want to tow 19K pounds the tongue weight is gonna be well over that 2,000lb payload anyway. Long term maintenance and repairs should be cheaper on the Hemi and gas is still more affordable at the pump per gallon.
Knowing you guys, your truck is the cheapest variant possibly lol, BUT $25k is a HUGE difference.
Edi: I was right🤣. Great video, as usual!
Bighorn isn't the cheapest
Just got 2019 warlock fully loaded hemi. minus moon roof 30,000 miles paid 35,000... I feel like it was an absolute steal very happy
It's completely stupid to have a non functional hood scoop. Basically it's just a component to add air drag resistance.
It would be nice to see you pick some of the "normal" spec trucks for review.
Maybe a Best Value shutout
The base price on your truck has gone up by several thousand dollars on the 2023 model year.
It’s about time that RAM put a Cummins in the Rebel /power wagon
Great video!
Surprised ram did the bi LED lights on that trim. Only the 75th and trim 3 get those in power wagon, the Laramie has reflector led. Duracraps are noisy tires and only good in snow.
I like the new mirrors. Wonder if they will fit on a 4th Gen
You got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk away, know when to run.....
On your Ram, set one memory seated position with mirrors down and the other seated position with them up.
If I extend the mirrors or go moose mode I have to adjust my mirrors. It's cool you can go to towing mirrors without getting out but otherwise eh?
I am sure that soon enough we get a 6 wheel, 6 wheel driven, luxury work truck that can pull 50k with ease, do 180MPH, Has a luxury leather interior and that only for the small price of $200k
A steal!
At 200K, it better wipe my azz for me.
Lol
I’d say TAKE MY MONEY to that one 😂
TOP, Very Good my friend 🙏✋👍
I got a 2023 tradesmen 2500 cummins 4x4 6000 miles so far she has been amazing
I have a truck just like yours but in patriot blue. I tow a fifth wheel and rather have more payload and towing. I like cloth better than leather because leather is hot in summer and feels cold in cold weather. What is going on with these high price trucks! I paid overpaid for mine $74 and now they cost almost $100K. I stick with the Bighorn! It does a good job so far! Value! Value!
Nice, now that you guys bought the truck. It’s now a used vehicle, minus ten thousand price tag! Haha
When the hell will Ram come out with the same cab configuration as the 1500?!?! That's what I'm waiting for
Ty for not always doing the super loaded one 😊
Can you do a new 23 ram rebel Cummings vs 23 power wagon vs a normal 23 ram 2500 Cummings, and a 23 ford 250 tremor powerstroke? Thanks
$25k buys a LOT of tire and suspension mods. I’d go for the Bighorn, invest the change in off road/towing customization.
LOL Yes Roman, “premium smell” is a nice feature to have. Much more preferable to “2 years ownership driver’s seat bottom smell”. 😅
j/k
Shows how much you know your trucks but they both have mirror memory now so whichever way flipped up or down the mirrors will change when you hit the memory button with the seat position.
Fast forward to year end 2023- Prices have dropped almost 20K on many Rebels. I just picked up a fully loaded gasser Rebel (88k MSRP) for 72K. Still not cheap by any means, bu a helluva lot better than 90K. Also, there is a glut of the diesel Rebels, as people have apparently done the math on “bang for the buck”. For me personally, I like the Rebel looks, and the 6.4 Hemi is a good overall motor that will last me many years. I have a 3500 with a Cummins for the heavy lifting, so this pickup is for the occasional tow and general duty ranch work…in style.

The prices are a shocker until you do the math. On average over the last 20 years heavy duty truck prices have doubled. That is only a 3.5% increase a year over that time.
I think I would take those mirrors off and put the older style one
Is either self driving? All the others stuff does not count if it is not. (And get rid of the shift lever. if the transmission is not mechanically linked. Buttons leave more room for food and phone holders.)

I think active led lights should be mandatory. It's crazy how much they will charge for all the safety features that should be standard. The leather and other stuff i understand. But if people keep paying they will keep raising prices.
All trucks are too expensive. Base model all the way up to fully loaded. Its stupid
