I disagree with Nathan a little about the Willys being a set of tires away from being nearly a Mojave. People always seem to discount the cast iron front suspension and steering components as well as the reinforced frame. Those are a big deal if you're doing the things the Mojave was made for - bouncing and jumping at high speeds. And that's the key: what are you planning to do with it? The Willys is maybe the best bang for the buck but it won't do Mojave stuff well.

Rick Péwé! That man really helped to inspire my love of off-roading. Back when I was a 9th grader (2003-04), we had to sell magazine subscriptions (for what, I do not remember) and to bolster my own sales, I subscribed myself to two magazines that really supercharged my love of all things auto: Petersen's 4Wheel & Off-Road (to which Rick was the Editor in Chief of at the time), and Hot Rod magazine. I would read every issue of both cover to cover. I really loved the builds and when 4WOR would build rigs for the Ultimate Adventure. That magazine is why I know what a locker is, why a NP205 tcase is cool, why a Dana 60 is stronger than a 44, and so much more. Very instrumental in shaping who I am today. I read those magazines for years, and I still have every issue that I received. Thanks guys!

    Gladiator Rubicon: MSRP $65k (-$10k Discount)=$55k

Agree. I got 26% off MSRP. 58K MSRP down to 42K. MacHaik Houston on I-10 had a bunch of left-over '23 year model Rubicons and Mojaves in February. I understand the '24 was updated with power seats, rear side curtain air bags, larger Uconnect screen and new grill. Mechanically has same powertrain, suspension, HD axles, etc. So the discount made me grab a '23.

You can actually buy a Jeep, choose your favorite trim and color right on the lot, and you won't pay full MSRP if you know how to negotiate (i.e. a minimum of $6K reduction on top trims).
Ford has always limited the supply of Raptors, so IF you find a Ranger Raptor, you'll take whatever color Ford allocated to the dealer, and you'll pay full MSRP at minimum. Most dealers will add Additional Dealer Markup, so a black Ranger Raptor will cost the same as a your favorite Rubicon X and Mojave X.
I must say why Jeep chose to go for 'best in class' rear legroom at the expense of front legroom in the Gladiator is a head scratcher.

Does the 24 Mojave still have steel front knuckles compared to aluminum in the Rubi and others? Also, besides the orange stitching, aren't the seats more bolstered? Is the hood still steel and heavier in the Mojave? Besides the Fox suspension, those are the other reasons I was aware of for getting a Mojave over the Rubi.

I live in Oxfordshire and a neighbour has a Ranger Raptor, so a Gladiator is not out of the question. I do see F150s and Dodge Rams around. They're not common, but I see them reasonably regularly. The Gladiator is ULEZ compliant for London too Nathan. You would have to pay the congestion charge, but not the additional ULEZ charge. So it would cost you about 20 bucks to go into the city.

A fully loaded Ranger Raptor is $14k less than a fully loaded Gladiator Mojave. I like convertibles and the ability to take the doors off, but that is a huge price gap to get a vehicle that is less equipped with known quality issues.

It rides better than any jeep out there due to the suspension for every day driving. I put mine on 37" with terraflex suspension and added apex sway bar disconnect. It will go anywhere except body damaging trails.

If you test drive, you'll notice the windshield frame is much lower than usual vehicles. At 6'2", 240lbs the Mojave works alright for me. You may find yourself stopping a bit before you usually would at intersections, so you can see the light change. Our 4yr & 2yr old are both in front facing car seats. One siting behind me with drivers seat all the way back. I've owned a '15 Ram 2500 crewcab since new. When we hop back into the Ram it feels cavernous. But this is more of a weekend trip/errand vehicle for us. Edit: Rear facing car seats are probably not possible unless you have only one rear seat passenger.

The issue with crawling Mojave’s and sometimes feeling like they need more power is not the engine, but their low range gearing. They have about a 53 to 1 crawl ratio vs about a 77 to 1 for a Rubicon. This means more throttle use and less throttle control in low speed crawling. It also means, however, that they can go faster in low range vs a Rubicon. Each can of course crossover and do what the other one was really more designed to do, but yeah, they are designed to do different things. Buy the one that fits the offroading you most intend to do. Besides, much of the differences can also be added aftermarket- for example a front locker on a Mojave, nicer suspension and cast iron knuckles on a Rubicon etc. (I guess with the exception being the stronger frame on the Mojave). If I were going to lift it and replace suspension though, I don’t think I’d spend for a Mojave, as that is really the biggest part of what you are paying for, so why spend for it and then immediately take it off. Anyway, great vid. Makes me wish I wasn’t going into work at the office. Ugh.

Last year, I wanted to buy a JT. But the strike was looming, and I had a trip planned that would involve towing some kind of Jeep behind our pickup and camper. Ordering, would have given me the equipment I wanted, for a more reasonable price. But I ended up buying a JLU Sport S Altitude for $49k. No point paying for options that I will remove later.

I know they are both midsize trucks but i feel like a Gladiator and Raptor are going to appeal to different groups. I think of Raptor and i think going fast in the desert and sand dunes. I think Jeep i think of it as a modern classic due to it's long history and going slow off road without doors or the top on.

on crazy europe stuff.... in the netherlands there is a tax based on environmental footprint, a 70k EUR genadier will skyrocket to 180k EUR for a natural person buying it. Believe the grenadier isn't even sold with rear seats (only front seats it might be possible to have it as 'commercial'), but also a (non 4xe) wrangler will skyrocket to about 160k EUR. (~176k $)

Meanwhile, here in Canada, Dealers are marking up 2024 Gladiators in the $70K CAD range, to the point where they're only a difference of 1000-2000 dollars between Sport, Willys, Mojave and Rubicon (none of which are specced with the new power seats). So currently, its better to get a 2023, as they're sitting on lots with discounts, starting at about $50K CAD for a Sport S with maybe 1 option.

The downside to the wrangler and gladiator is the factory axle locker in the Mojave and Rubicons. The sensor fails frequently and the only way to replace it is a full axle replacement. Until Jeep makes the sensor available, don't let your warranty run out.

Still agree it’s overpriced for a midsize truck. I’d rather buy a half ton truck for the money of the Gladiator.

Honestly if you care about value you should just buy an earlier year version with low mileage for 20-30k off of what you’d pay for a brand new one…
You’re pretty much paying $20,000 for a slightly “better” touch screen.
ESPECIALLY if you plan on off-roading.
