    I don't really understand why the Series X has a higher average resolution than PS5 when it is dropping more frames than the PS5. It seems to me that the Xbox could benefit from a similar variable resolution as the PS5.

      This seems to be a recurring theme with SX versions. Devs should drop the resolution to maintain a stable frame rate

    • @idakev
      @idakev Před 2 lety +41

      This seems to happen a lot where PS5 ports prioritize framerate while Xbox ports prioritize resolution with frame drops which could be easily smoothed out (while probably still having a resolution advantage). I've wondered for a while if MS pushes for higher resolutions but it's probably something simpler than that.
      As a PS5 player it doesn't affect me, but it's interesting. I doubt it has anything to do with VRR as it still has low adoption.

Air/wind simulation, dirty air is simulated. I mean once you start doing some reading on how balls deep they went with simulation you start to appreciate what they did there. They only have access to 5.5 gigs of ram the ps4 pro has when they release any next gen patch only and not a native version. When it's only a patch you'll still be running the ps4 code but with faster clocks but the same ps4 pro ram. I'm anticipating the xbox series x version will have a higher resolution because they have at the very least 9 gigs of ram to work with while running in backwards compatibility due to the One x.... maybe more because they have a different set up for backwards compatibility

    There's something to be said for 'bespoke' racing game engines like Turn 10's ForzaTech and Polyphony's GTS. Can't wait to see them used in native new gen games, when cross-gen is abandoned.
    Granted, Unreal Engine 4 - used in Assetto - is no slouch for racing games and (on paper) is fully equipped to handle the genre, but it lacks the raw focus of the aforementioned proprietary tech.
    Unreal Engine 5, on the other hand, has some specific features that could be *outstanding* for future racing games developed with it. Ultra Nanite LoD control, etc. seems ideal for performance savings in track racers, among other features.

    As someone with years of Racing experience, in real life and also Sim racing, i have to say the biggest issue of ACC is the steering via Gamepad, to be precise, the steering customization!
    Before a "noob" comes up and says "you need to drive with wheel" hold on. I'am playing sim racers for over 20 years now, started with a 80 bucks plastic wheel all the way up to a custom build DD wheel. And i also played with gamepad, some people (including me) are completely fine driving sim racers like AC (1), rFactor (1-2), iRacing, netKarPro ... via gamepad without any aids (no TC, ABS etc..).
    For me, AC 1 was a dream. You could essentially map the controls in a way that the stick would work like a wheel. If you "steered" your stick, lets say, 23% to the left, the in game wheel would also steer 23% to the left. If you rapidly hit the stick from left to right, the ingame wheel would near instantly jump from left to right (thats where many casual players struggle). You could essentially have raw inputs without any „filter“ on top which makes the steering sluggish. You can easily see that in these games, steer quickly from left to right and you will see that the steering will be delayed. Anyways, you could customize it however you like, there are even people out there who are playing with mice/mouse.
    In ACC it unfortunately changed. You can't freely customize your inputs anymore and you are forced to use their hilariously bad Gamepad Presets. The same complaint can be made for various newer released titles including Gran Turismo 7. Your game won't be "too heavy on the Sim side" when you offer input customization, in fact, it will make it more accessible for a wider base of players.

    • @LogainAblar
      @LogainAblar Před 2 lety +1

      It's the deadzone. In AC1 you could effectively remove the dead zone so that steering is 1-to-1. Too many developers are just lazy in thinking a dual analog preset with no option to kill the dead zone is the end all be all of, well, any control scheme on a console. The dead zone is a big reason why so many dual analog control schemes are total shite no matter which genre being played but especially for FPS and sim driving games. It makes everything feel slow and clumsy no matter what adjustments are made. Precise controls are essential or the gameplay just becomes a joke of an experience.

    This is one case that even VRR don't save the performance issues, as a racing games demand responsiveness and accuracy and you can only have this when running a constant framerate.
    Because it's impossible to control your car when the reaction time is 3ms in one turn, 80ms in the second turn, 20ms in the third turn, 35ms in the fourth turn... and so on.

    1.8 console update. 29/9/2022. Many of us are waiting patiently with building excitement. We all have only 9 days left till the major release what will change ACC gameplay a lot.
    I’m from London UK and have been racing AC and ACC on PS4 and PS5. I’ve raced over 1000+ hours on AC and over 1000+hrs on ACC PS4 version. Now building up big time on PS5. Joined a league, fantastic! True addict, aren’t you? Since release of ACC I had many serious problems with the game. And with every new update, with release of PS5 console, with new ACC console version I have felt a lot of new optimistic expectations followed by disappointment and a letdown from game developers. I’ve been lucky to always have a good FFB on my T300 Ferrari Alcantara edition and now DD1, but there were other problems what took a lot of nerve and patience. It’s hard to remember all the issues but there are few what stand out to me. For example not able to join multiplayer and the proposed fix was to delete my carefully selected 300 racing friends from AC and ACC. Of course I refused to do that and kept waiting till issue was fixed. That was a big wait but I used time to practice my racing in single player. Another problem is crashing Career. It crashed on three occasions trying to complete career endurance race of 3hours non stop racing. It crashed twice somewhere in last leg. Other day I completed the race, crossed finish line and while checking lap times game crashed not saving my career endurance progress. I was fuming! Another issue we all experienced was game simply crashing midrace, it happened a lot. So annoying and was makings me really angry when I had a good race. Then replay save crash needs to be looked at. Even now after all possible updates on PS5 software and ACC PS5 version updates I am experiencing game crashes, some DD1 disconnects, poor visuals as shading under cars, cars flickering. Other minor game bugs - Pit entrance notice issue, not able to use mapped buttons to look left/right as I can on AC version, no in cockpit turn indicators and headlighs LED’s. Sound issues after watching replay and rejoining track. One occation I had cockpit view flickering in career race, there was no flickering from outside view. Many gamers have poor FFB and other issues with game. The most major is game crashing and disconnects while racing leagues Championships. Over 2 years time since ACC console release game is not in a perfect state yet, but it’s playable and enjoyable. I wish there was more communication and a HELPING HAND between Kunos and UntoldGames who develops console version now. I wish thee was more communication from 505games what is distributor’s of console ACC. And I believe we console players deserve an APOLOGY from 505 games and Kunos for a big letdown because I believe game is not completed, it’s got many problems and is like in a beta version. We PS5 players are lucky to have both versions available to play side by side on PS5. I switch between PS5 and PS4 version because PS5 lobbies has small attendance numbers.
    With 1.8 version PS5 and Xbox UntoldGames has to nail it. No excuses, it has to be perfection. Watching official Kunos ytube channel I learned Marcos, Aris and team still have that passion, they put a lot of effort developing PC 1.8 version what is a massive overhaul of ACC what changed already great game to something fascinating and they are proud of it. Would be shame if UntoldGames would do a poor job with console 1.8 version and drop all that KUNOS effort down in a mud. We don’t know what to expect precisely, announcement stated upgraded tyre model and 400hz + different liveries? We will see. Researching PC 1.8 update, numerous patch notes and reviews I learned about UPDATED rain visuals, rain tyre handling, rain track limits, cars BOP’s, reworked replay camera angles, mist and dew conditions, car night lights, bmw fuel consumption,there is so much more. PC 1.8 version is always updated. So which 1.8 version + latest update we console gamers will receive is not known yet. But it will change the game for sure.

      Because Xbox teams are attempting to fool buyers and prove their console is more powerful. Which the GPU technically is. They tell the dev teams to go as high resolution as possible to make Playstation look bad, but the truth is, Sony simply has a better all around console and API integration.
      They try to stick with this "worlds most powerful console" BS... when in reality, like you said, they need to just be matched in resolution.

      @Sean Yeah, "The Touryst" on PS5 is Native 8K 60fps. Only 6K 60fps on the SX. The 2.23ghz higher GPU clocks on the PS5 help push pixels as well.
      Also the 8K label on the box doesn't specify games in particular, more so that it natively supports the resolution for future video playback as well.
