- This was the first real art store I had ever been in and they couldn't have been kinder! It was a great first art store tour!
Before this, all my art supplies were bought online; I started watercolor in 2021.
Blick Art Materials in DC was easy to navigate with a wheelchair.
There's a wheelchair lift right inside the front door.
Everyone in there was so kind; Mom and I had a grand old time looking around the entire store,
specifically at every single watercolor paint and paper. :)

The tab at the top for your color, and then look for the column to the right for the A, B, or C code so you know if your paint pigments are safe. My paints are all rated A for safety.
As someone who drinks water while she paints, I choose not to have cadmium, cobalt, or nickel in my paints since I can't get up and wash my hands before taking medicines.

You have access to such a beautiful and large selection of art supplies in the US. In South Africa, our shops are not this big, with an obviously small selection of what they do have. I am thankful for what I can get, but as nothing is made in South Africa, it is really really expensive too. Even so, when I do enter the art shop, I get giddy, with excitement.
Loved this vlog, liked the fact that you have shown everything very patiently without running the camera or speeding up the video. I like watching these kind of art store walk through where we shouldn't have to pause at every product.. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this tour! ❤ Also, so nice to see you enjoying this.. Forgot to mention my most favourite part is the paper section 😍 they have great variety of papers available in every format and sizes!! Wish I could find & be able to visit a store like this some day 💕
Oh, thank you! I’m always wanting people to slow down and take their time filming when I watch art store tours.
So when I made this that was the goal, slow down and make sure people feel like they’re there in the store with me.
I shot it in 60fps on my iphone and slowed it down to like 50-75% speed depending on how fast the footage was, and separated out the audio and manually edited it all.
In the store I was not filming slowly, I was like, ooh, pretty, ooh, and it’s hard to slow down when you’re so excited. 😆
I would love to do more art store tours, they are all travel distance away, but when I’m near one again I’ll have go see it and film. ☺️
Oh the paper section! It was quite the isle, Mom and I went down it twice. I was so surprised at the size of the really big paper.
I hope you are able to visit an art store someday soon, and that it’s filled with kind people like this one was. It was a great first art store tour. ☺️

Yeah Blick (I will forever call it by Utrecht) has been around for decades. I love going there and first went there back in the late 90s. The staff is really friendly and you really can find any medium or brand.
Ooh interesting. So it used to be a Utrecht before Blick bought them out. Everyone was so kind there when I went too. Love to go back sometime ☺️

Oh what a good idea! Like those movies where they camp out in a store and explore it once everyone leaves! Wasn't there an old Disney movie about that? There'd be plenty of art things to keep us busy for days...we just might need to bring food and tea. 😂
The closest Blick to me is almost an hour away (longer in heavy traffic) and I rarely get to go because I don’t drive. They aren’t this large, but I really love going. Thanks for this tour. I get to live vicariously through you! 😂

Yes, I was there recently--pure heaven. When in DC, go to Blick, but also Jenni Bick on Connecticut Avenue for marvelous journals and fountain pens.
