Having been to Gettysburg, I come to the conclusion that Sickle chose the peach orchard because it had a better field of fire than the segment of the line he was originally supposed to defend, which was uneven and would have allowed the Confederates to advance fairly closely before they could target them with a significant amount of small arms fire.
That being said, Sickles deprived himself of artillery support from Little Rountop and quick access to reserves by moving so far away from the main line. By isolating himself, he became the perfect target for a Confederate assault.

Maybe, but putting himself in the Peach orchard gave the Confederate artillery the ability to ass pound his corps with zero counter battery fire from Big and Little Round top. The Union had an absolutely bananas artillery advantage at Gettysburg and Sickles pissed that away because he hated Meade, and a lot of Union men died in a hail of cannon fire for no other reason than "fuck you boss I'ma do what I want".

I'm glad Dan Sickles gets some attention, the guy was character. In March 1864 he wrote an anonymous letter to the Newspaper under the name "Historicus" and defended his actions at Gettysburg. He referred to himself in 3rd person and its hilarious, everyone should read it. People like General Meade and General Barnes responded it to with their own letters and Sickles responded to those. The dude even made it to the 50th reunion of the Battle in 1913. At Chancellorsville, 2 months prior, the Confederates took high ground put their artillery up there and badly hurt his Corps. Its still unknown if he was instructed to be on Little Round Top or not. The area he was given originally (north of little round top) was not good for Artillery. The peach orchard offered a little higher terrain for his guns, he was afraid the Confederates would use it to bombarded his troops again. That was one of his reasons for moving forward. General Longstreet would later credit him for doing this, I'm sure that inflated his ego even more, haha.

Here is a great story from Sickles later in life. He returned to Congress and was influential in passing bills through Congress that would help preserve the Gettysburg battlefield. At this point people began to start putting moments on the battlefield and the third corps monument was supposed to have a bust of Sickles in it but the money that was raised for it was stolen (some people think that he actually took it). The third corps monument to this day still has no bust of him in it. When a reporter asked him if he was upset about not getting a moment on the battlefield he responded with "son this whole damn battlefield is my monument".

      Land on Normandy
Finds a truck with Nazi cyphers codes
Ditches UK's commander and gives it to Canadian commander instead.
After that, he works as a scout. Meet the SS.
Kill four of them, One of those four throw a white phosphorus grenade before his death, blinding Major's left eye
Medic: "Yeah you can go home"
Major: "About 'bout Nah calice. I just need one eye lol"
After he comes back to his unit, is tasked to find a unit of zombies. (Low-motivated, fresh, French-Canadian recruit)
Instead finds almost 100 Wehrmacht soldiers.
Capture them by himself, kills 3 Germans who tries to escape to make a point.
Almost dies by SS troops that fires back at him and the prisoners
Deliver 93 Germans soldiers to his commander
Ditch the DCM because he though Montgomery was an idiot
Later, during a patrol, his truck strikes a mine and kill everyone on board, expect Leo.
His back, 4 ribs and his ankles broke.
Leo: "Nah i can still fight"
Him and best bud Willy Arsenaud infiltrate Zwolle for a scout mission.
      German kill Leo's best friend.
      Leo Major drop the politeness
      SINGLE HANDELY capture the town.
His plan was to confuse the enemy by making as much noise as possible, using his Sten Gun, few MP-42 and Willy's grenade bag.
He capture couple of Germans soldiers and make them prisoners by bringing them back to the Allies Camp.
He do that 10 Times, by groups of 8-10 soldiers.
Kill four SS Officer and burn down the Gestapo HQ in Zwolle, as well of the SS HQ in Town.
FINALLY accomplish one of his orders. Was to link up with the local resistance.
He finally recover the body of his best friend and bring it back to his HQ, who still havent advanced yet.
Later that morning, Canadian soldiers arrives in town, sparing the town of a massive attack.
      Got the DCM.
Finally leave the army after the war.
He did, ALL THAT, at 23 years old, within a year, after his father told him he was a worthless piece of shit that couldnt do anything in life.
ANd that skipping his later time in during the Korean army. Where he got another DCM by basically requesting an Artillery Barage on his position, his man surviving and winning an important battle.

Then, in an act that history didnt record, but im sure happened, Bismarck slid his sunglasses down, did finger guns at his wannabe assassin, and said, with a cheeky grin, "Iron Chancellor, baby." as he slowly backed away.
