I gotta tell you guys something. I homeschool a couple of ADHD kids and this channel is exactly the right kind of sarcastic, snarky, random humor that grabs their attention and they will hyper focus and binge watch your channel for hours and learn more history than they do any other way I've found yet. They can quote whole chunks of these videos verbatim. You've got something here guys. Can you please do a video on the Mayflower and Pilgrim story? Also can you point me in the direction of any similar channels that do other subjects in a similar manner like science?
Overly Sarcastic Productions is another great channel. They cover Mythology and History
Extra History is a channel with a similar art style and they have videos on many different topics
Overly Sarcastic Productions is great for this stuff. A TV show for common misconceptions that also covers history that might work is Adam Ruins Everything, which is more on the adult side of things
I have ADHD and I also really like this channel because I don’t feel the need to do multiple things at once, I can just watch the video
History matters does good content
"Your majesty what should we do about the children down in the coal mines" " *NOTHING* "
True story about this, when the government started considering intervening on the side of the Confederacy, workers in the UK started rioting and literally smashed their equipment rather than buy it from the south as a sign of worker solidarity. They've apparently built a statue of Lincoln in the following decades as a result.

Fun fact, Grant wasn’t as much of an alcoholic as history makes him out to be. He struggled with it in his early years in the army when he was stationed on the northwest coast, but after that he was rarely drunk. His biggest addiction was actually cigars, which he smoked 3-5 a day, and that is what eventually killed him.
So he was kinda an alcoholic in his youth but eventually gave it up.
Basically. He was depressed and away from his family for a while which lead to him getting HELLA drunk for a WHILE, but through the rest of his life he rarely drank (though the extremely rare times he did drink, he went super overboard and would have 1-3 day binges until he got himself under control), but most of the times we hear of him drunk are lies from officers who didn’t like him, like his CO in St. Louis who was terrible at his job and Grant called him on it creating an enemy for life. But the Grant we always hear about constantly drinking is mostly just attacks on his character from military (on his side) and political rivals.

Thanks for covering Lincoln's lesser known negative traits. He was quite 'melancholic', a term used back then to describe what we would call depression now.
When Lincoln and Mary Todd's engagement was "apparently" called off, several close associates of Lincoln feared his suicide.
The loss of his children left mental scars along with the huge emotional burden of not only limiting the amount of American deaths but having the fate of every slave in America in his hands. It's remarkable that Lincoln was able to make it through all of that. I remember reading a book where a character gave a fake quote "I do not know if great times make great men but they can most certainly break them."
He was also a big jokester and also just kinda silly, and that probably helped a great deal in the last incredibly streessful years of his life. One of my favorite stories is about an officer running into Lincoln in the War Department and then begged him a thousand pardons. Abe told him one was enough and wished that his generals would change like that.
But one of my favorite tender stories about him during the war was when he was visiting an army camp where he came across three kittens who he asked where their mother was and learned she had died. He then told the kittens he was happy that they weren't able to comprehend how terrible the Civil War was. It's then said he ordered that they were fed and taken care of and then he sat and pet them and listened to them purring 😭
......Interesting pfp.
How is being depressed a negative trait? You try being the leader during the most stressful time and I nations history and see if you don’t get depression
@@collincomer7038 Seeing as how he was depressed before the outbreak of the Civil War and before he even ascended to the presidency, I wouldn't blame the times on his depression.
I'm not going to even address depression being a negative trait. It clearly is but that doesn't mean your value as a person is lessened because of it.
Pretty sure that quote is actually from world War z.
It’s hilarious and scary how many people genuinely argue that “it had nothing to do with slavery.” Usually people here in the south that feel like the Confederacy got a raw deal.
They got way more than they should have which is why so many Confederate sympathizers still hold power
No one until 1995 believed that the Civil war had anything to do with slavery
@@glennbalkin8247right… so what part of the reasons for succession literally shown in the video was unclear?
"IT'S STATE'S RIGHTS"
Rights to do what?
@@justaguycalledjoshBy no means am I an expert. But the South felt like the North were capable of unfairly dictating what they could do. Which includes things like tariffs, and slavery laws. Thats what people mean by state rights. It is also important to remember that, culturally, the North and South saw themselves as distinct.
I am colombian. And I really dont mean to offend anyone, but man Lincoln was amazing, what a man and what a historic figure, no wonder why here there are schools, hospitals, streets, neighborhoods, etc under his name. He was an incredible man and my favorite president of the US.

28:26 it's a "blank and you miss it" moment, but you can actually see Jackson's capture of Harpers Ferry on the 14th.
Here's some more info: when Lee split his army during the Maryland campaign, Stonewall Jackson was sent to capture the town of Harpers Ferry, which was defended by a Union garrison under one Colonel Dixon Miles, who would end up dying while riding to the Rebel lines to surrender. Aside from the initial fighting along the Maryland Heights overlooking the town, Jackson was able to win without much loss of life on either side.

Except because the ironclads where so strong a battle against two of them took quite a while. And sometimes even ended in both ships just leaving because neither could breach the other's hull.
BTW... First Manassas was the very first battle for new West Point graduate and commissioned Lieutenant George Armstrong Custer. While the battle was a rout for the Union troops, Lt. Custer was able to stop some of the Union troops from fleeing willy-nilly, to conduct an ordered, fighting retreat. Custer would go on to fight in nearly all the major battles in the Eastern theater, courageously leading his cavalry from the front in charge after charge, and becoming a major factor in many Union victories. Becoming one of the youngest brigadier generals in the history of the US Army just days before the pivotal Battle of Gettysburg, on the third day of the battle he led his volunteer Michigan cavalry in repeated charges against a larger force of Jeb Stuart's Invincibles, handing them their first-ever combat defeat, preventing the possibility of Stuart's cavalry attacking Meade's troops from the rear during Pickett's Charge. While Stuart didn't have orders to do so, it's entirely possible that he would have, knowing Jeb, had the opportunity presented itself. In a later battle, it was Custer's troops who would be responsible for Stuart's death, removing one of Lee's best generals from the war. At Appomattox, General Phil Sheridan would purchase the table Lee signed the surrender papers on and present it to Libbie Custer, telling her that no one person had done more to bring about the Union's victory than her gallant husband...although I think Julia Dent Grant would've had a persuasive argument making that claim for her husband! George Armstrong Custer was a legitimate Civil War hero.
And then he was a total dumbass at Little Bighorn.

Im learning about this in history this year so I'm watching this video also as a Texan I find our depiction absolutely hilarious and accurate lol
I think Lincoln’s head was a bright full moon of knowledge!🤣🤣
“Hey, it’s war baby. What are you gonna do.” may be the best quote I’ve heard in years.
Ethan Sexton *”YOU’RE ABOUT TO GET A ROUNDHOUSE TO THE FACE.”*
It’d be better if he said “what’re you gonna do? Shoot me?”

McClellan: Dies*
Also McClellan: I didn't die, I merely failed to live!
Lmao
That’s a good one😂
McClellan: *is alone*
Also McClellan: I’m not alone, I merely failed to get married!
McClellan also lost the presidential election in 1864. He be like: “I didn’t lose the election. I merely failed to get elected.”
This needs more likes
already 4 years ago, crazy how he just keeps uploading with more and more quality
Appreciate in 8:27 how he points out the underlying fact of people not being free
“Also, he’s a loony drunk.”
“Well, what does he like to drink?”
“I believe whiskey, sir.
“Then send. Him. MORE.”

That’s how you reward one of the 3 good generals that you had. The others were general Sherman (Grant’s good friend), and general Meade (Who defeated General Lee at Gettysburg).
If only McClellan was an alcoholic, huh?
WarlordofBritannia
He still would have failed to win. (HE LOST)
@@maxrichards3881 Sheridan was a pretty good cavalry commander, so that's four.

This enraged his father who punished him severely
An Italian Hoagie WOW!
More economic downturn
Imagine living in the south
@Ultimate Ake Sherman*
An Italian Hoagie 😂😂
We just got confirmation of a remastered
I love this video so much! All facts accurate and humor in full force! lol
As much as I love the jokes in the series, I do appreciate the serious tone that was taken as you discussed the torturous conditions they underwent
hunter davis
He was also very respectful when talking about the victims of WW2.
I appreciate it, as a grandkid to Holocaust survivors
Yeah man
So true. I know a ww2 veteran and this was real respectful but funny at the same time.
The tone in the phrase “for 4 million people...” was everything
“Your majesty, what should we do about all of the starving children working in the coal mines?”
“NOTHING!”
Industrial Revolution oversimplified?
Edit: so a lot of people want an Industrial Revolution oversimplified. Nice
That's called foreshadowing
Nah, Karl Marx will take over, right? Right? RIGHT? I mean its not like the they will go into a global war, right? Right? RIGHT?
Yes Yes Yes!

Queen Of England: "Oh My God America is so awful for slavery"
General: "Your Majesty! The Irish people dont think they should be forced into servitude"
Queen: "Well go beat hem up and burn their property."
The speed at which Missouri declares it wants to be a slave state never fails to make me laugh
This was one of oversimplified’s best videos
I greatly appreciate how you took the time to talk about the realities for the slaves in the middle of this. Also explain why many Northerners were against slavery, it not always being morally or ethically motivated.
He doesn't pull any punches and I love it
Here in West Virginia, I was actually taught how the North wasn't morally motivated.
Northerners were fine to build their textile industries and their urban cities on the proceeds of slave labour. Funny how all those rich fellas get to keep all their slave wrought wealth. Classic Americana
Cracks me up how schools teach North good South bad hahaha. Hilarious. Many northerners could have cared less and certainly were not willing to die in the battlefield to free slaves. Many in the South didn't not even own a slave and didn't belief in it. They did not want the union to separate because the country needed the economy from the south. The south simply did not want to be told what they would and wouldn't do and felt they were being invaded.
"didn't want to be told what they would and wouldn't do" in regards to slavery you mean.

the depiction of british people is amazingly accurate
love the content man great to prep before a lesson so you can have it in context a bit
*four month hiatus*
Fans: You quit!
Oversimplified: I didn’t quit! I merely failed to upload.
Coney Island Av It’s a 50 minute video, basically a movie, I’m surprised 4 months is all it took to make this

@Toori Baba so is trump but I don't remember asking
Toori Baba No-instead of keeping black people as slaves he orders muslims to be kept out of the country, encourages systematic racism and makes life for immigrants who are fleeing from wars as hard as possible-persecuting them for trying to save their families. He encourages homophobic attacks, tacitly supports alt-right groups and explicitly supports two separate dictatorships with appealing human rights records. Slavery was an abomination and Trump is leagues worse because he has become so normalised that we are no longer outraged at his policies-at least during the slave trade people knew what was happening was horrific and evil.
this is proof that people enjoy being educated but school isn’t doing it right

I'm from Far North CA (forever Merle Haggard country). Guess that makes me a yank. But I met too dang many southern boys in the military during that Vietnam thing to have anything but brotherly respect for 99% of them. Civil war was a very sad time in US history. Damn glad it's over and 99% of the wounds are healed. May God Bless the USA; north, south, east and west...
We’ll never forget that Confederates are traitors and white supremacists 🇺🇸
