One of my favorite ideologies I've seen is the idea that, trust gives freedom and leniency, If the parents give a curfew to come home from a party at say 11, and you keep it most of the time and you make sure they know when you have to break said curfew, they will usually allow it since you usually keep it. Eventually the parents can trust you enough to basically not have a curfew.

Funny thing is, women having power wasn't as big a deal in many states west of the Mississippi River. Argonia, Kansas actually elected a female mayor, Susanna Salter, in 1887 and other western localities even elected all-female town councils partially because they were fed up with blatant corruption or crime and thought women as the "fairer and more virtuous" sex would surely bring more honesty and order. Iowa also allowed women to become lawyers from the 1870s onward!

There's one story I like regarding Carrie Nation. A saloon owner in Oklahoma invited Carrie to speak at his business, but she had to promise not to break his bottles. She broke them anyway. After this rampage the saloon owner then made a sign, "All Nations Welcome Except Carrie." It became a slogan, and saloons started to buy them and hang them in their taverns as a reminder to their patrons to be thankful that Carrie isn't here and that they can enjoy their drinks in peace. lol

My paternal grandparents made beer and wine in their basement. Well, actually, my grandmother made the beer and wine from recipes passed down through her family. My grandfather owned a produce store so he could supply my grandmother whatever she needed. The local ice cream truck driver supplied the empty root beer bottles for my grandmother to bottle the beer and wine in. My dad recalled hearing “pop-pop-pop” noises at 1 AM from the beer bottles that were over-carbonated.
It was a great business model. My grand father could write off whatever produce was used as spoilage, the ice cream man sold adult root beer as well as kids root beer so everything was listed as root beer. No doubt they supplied some local speakeasies. My grandmother even had a potato beer recipe.
The Irish would kill for that potato beer recipe.

It's worth noting exactly how Capone got caught- they passed a policy saying that even illegally-acquired income (i.e. Illegal booze money) still had to be reported to the IRS and taxed. This poses an obvious self-incrimination problem, so officially the IRS isn't allowed to tell any other law enforcement agency about illegally-acquired income, but most criminals nowadays choose to launder their money to make their income both legitimate and taxable.
My grandmother was a maid at alcapons house, supposedly he treated her very well and treated her to a few nights on the town, she even referred to him as uncle al whenever she spoke about him, I never met her but she seemed pretty cool

What I learned from this video.

3. The first step to create a paradise, is to get people who would want to live in one.
I did a project on Carrie Nation, she had husband probems because of alchohol and went out smashing saloons like crazy- she would even sell axes as a sort of tourist souvenir, where the money made would go to paying to get carrie out of jail whenever she was arrested XD
A fact about the moonshine stuff: during prohibition, many moonshine runners had tuned up cars to outrun the police. After prohibition, they had no need to run from the police to sell it, so they started racing each other for money and respect. In 1948, a group of men got together in a hotel at Daytona Beach to establish a sanctioning body for these early stock car racing events. That sanctioning body became what we call NASCAR

In *slight* defense of Remus, his wife *had* previously hired a hitman to kill him; the only reason he wasn't killed is because the hitman thought he'd be double-crossed, and instead told Remus about the plan.

I loved watching the humorous and lighthearted animations, and it was great to see how the complicated political and social environment of the 1920s was presented in such an accessible manner. I especially enjoyed the comedic delivery and creative use of imagery to illustrate the various aspects of Prohibition. This video is a great way to learn more about a significant and often overlooked period in American history.

Fun Fact: Remus confided in a fellow inmate that his wife had responsibility over all his money. This inmate was actually an undercover Prohibition agent. Instead of reporting this to the agency, he ran away with Remus’s wife.

You forgot about one thing, Al Capone was done in by his own lawyer, a certain EJ O’Hare, Who inspired his son, Edward Butch O’Hare, to become a fighter pilot during WWII, Butch then managed to stop an entire Japanese task force of 8 Betty bombers from hitting his aircraft carrier, The USS Lexington. He shot down three bombers, and spooked the rest of the pilots so much that they all missed the carrier! And that’s how we got O’Hare airport.

In NJ, Ocean City is a "dry island". It's illegal to sell/serve alcohol on the island but there's no law against consuming it. Needless to say right before getting to the bridges that lead onto the island there's liquor stores.
In my home town, Cincinnati Ohio, there is a bar named after Carrie Nation called "Nations" (the door handles into the bar/grill are hatchets). It describes her movement and what she stood for. But the best thing i can say is what she said when arriving there. She said, "I would have dropped from exhaustion before I had gone a block." due to the amount of saloons on one of the streets, and not being able to hatchet everything. It's ironic of her fighting against alcohol and then having a bar named after many years later. And those wondering, yes the food and drinks were delicious there.
So, some old lady was going around tearing shit up with no one stopping her.... bars full of drunk men and no one was capable of knocking that bitch out... how fcking weak or small or stupid were those 'men' that a little old lady can go from bar to bar with a hatched. No body had a gun?
