Any suggestions for more extinct countries? Also you may notice my voice is somewhat off in the past couple of videos, I'm just getting over a cold so that's why!

Uhm nazi Germany?
I have a 1 pound bill from the unrecognized nation of Biafra, existed from 1967 - 1970 & resulted in civil war. could be worth a mention in another video.
Galicia wasn't a country, it was a province but they were called kingdoms until 1833.

As a fellow Yucatecan, I agree with your statement, lately there has been a surge in pride and a bit of a independence movement. It's quit small and not well known but now days if you go downtown you will see a lot of Yucatecan flags all over the place, something that 5 or 10 years ago was very rare.
Anyhow, we actually became a independent nation twice, not once. Thank you for sharing my state flag and history not a lot of people know about Yucatan, which is sad, because it is a very beautiful and safe part of Mexico. Also I have my own Yucatecan flag. ❤️
@@chiapasmexico9749 a ver...
Didn't the Mayans apsolutely obliterate the Yucatan Republic in 1847 and 1848 with later help from Britain around 1850?

I am from Galicia! My dissapointment is non-existing and my day is great!
You are right, though the 7 crosses of the new flag represent the old 7 provincies that Galicia was divided into, nowadays it's divided only into 4.
But there is no such thing as an independent Galicia incorporated in Spain as late as 1833
@@Ciscogrande None has spoken about an independent Galicia until s XIX. The Kingdom of Galicia was a kingdom in possession of the Crown of Castilla. The kingdom was officially dissolved in 1833 with de division of Spain in provinces, but the actual king of Spain Felipe IV still posses the title of King of Galicia.

@@A-O161interesting. So he is an important person. Who's this man? Had he not been featured in the flag, Sardinia's flag would just be a red cross in a white background.
@@VladislavDrac well there was 4 Saracen kings (for the legends) that looted the islands for centuries (until France has taken Tunis the pirates continued to loot the island), we don't really know a lot of things about the saracen pirates in Sardinia, and all we know is from the legends of the people who lived there

Re. the flag of Bolivia-Peru: Someone once said that a flag should be simple enough that a child could draw it from memory.
@Daeighve Geoughnns yeah but a lot of good flags don't follow that. Iran and Saudi Arabia have text, and one can call the US stars a bit too complex. Others like Bhutan have symbols that are very hard to draw from memory.
There's also a rule not to include any seals on the flag. Which is violated by most small European countries.

Number 2 could be filled with US state flags. A lot of them just take the state seal and put it into a shape like a square or a buffalo.

That head comes from Iberian heraldry that was developed at the time of the Reconquista, it's supposed to depict a decapitaded moor.
I thought moors were Arabs?
@@GAZAMAN93X Yes, but it was roughly used for anyone muslim
@@viniciusvyller9458 ah ok. But didn't the Arabs drove back most of the indigenous people out of North Africa?
@@GAZAMAN93X Well yes, but no. A minority migrated further south or turned into pirates, the majority were converted, willingly or by force. Indigenous North Africans were not black, but many West Africans were brought to the north by the arabian slave trade.
@@GAZAMAN93X Notably, the Almohads and Almoravids from Morocco were keen on using black slaves as disposable units during the later stages of the Reconquista. A well known battle, the battle of Las Navas de Tolosa, saw usage of these West African slave soldiers.

Quick correction: the kingdom of Galicia was founded in 409 and it was consumed by Leon in 585.
Doing a Google search, León was founded in 910, and Galicia does show as being a divided territory until the date mentioned in the video (1833)
0:27 This is the flag of Yucatan, you can know in the history of Mexico.
Yes, obviously. He literally says that in this video, that’s why it’s even shown...
On Galicia: the gold object in the old flag is a pyx, for holding the communion wafers in. Pyxes have lids; on the new flag it's a wafer behind a chalice, so both bread & wine.
Fun fact: the head on the flag of Corsica is also depicted on the logo of AC Ajaccio, easily the biggest football association on Corsica

Хорошая работа, узнал много чего нового, в том же духе )))
Every time I see your title “Fun with Flags,” I keep thinking about Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory. If you’ve watched the show, you’ll know what I’m talking about.
About Galicia: The "cup" in the flag bears no relation to the Holy Grail. It is a "copon" or ciborium, representing the Eucharist. Since time immemorial the city of Lugo, in Galicia, had the Eucharist exposed every day 24 hours. Also, Galicia, as a kingdom was incorporated into Leon about the time of El Cid (around 1100), and never again separated.
1:40 Now the sign isn't empty anymore =D
Fun Fact: Ryukyu and Ulm fought against each other for millenia, not only in this planet, but, across the whole galaxy.
During the early 19th century France under a personal union with Ryuku dismanteled the HRE. This was one of the darkest hours in Ulm's history. But it didn't take long for them to become stronk again.
The Tavolaran Flag was really beautiful in my opinion!

Big respect for galicia and their people and history, coming from your Celtic brothers in ireland
Actually, more than half of Spain (and Europe) has the same Celtic roots as Galicians. The idea that Galicia or Asturias are somehow "Celtic nations" comes from the romantic period and the popularity of the modern Celtic music, but it is historically wrong when put into context. Remember that Celts came from central Europe (nowadays Austria and south Germany) and extended across Europe including most of Spain. No Celtic language survives in Galicia, like in any other part of Spain, and the only connection to its Celtic roots are popular traditions and celebrations, like in many other regions of Spain: Cantabria, Castilla y León, etc. It is true though that there have been migrations between the north of Spain (including Galicia) and Ireland, which makes their people genetically closer, although not in a special "Celtic way". In any case, I also have great respect not only for Galicia, but the people and history of Ireland (where Celtic languages do survive).
There is a very cool flag from "Los Altos", It was the sixth state of the Federal Republic of Central America, and a short-lived independent republic. Guatemala reincorpored its territories but the flag is still used today as the symbol of the region.
Couldnt hold myself after seeing my prideful Yucatan's Flag! Cheers!
Yes, I am here, feeling proud of being YUCATECAN. Great video!
If you haven't already done a show on the following, it could be interesting. Flags of countries that are yet to be. Several areas have contemplated severing ties with their country and becoming their own nation. As an example, there has been a longterm movement to separate the area of the former Kingdom of Naples/Two Sicilies and re-establish it as a separate nation. The organized movement has several options for flags - 4 I think the last time I checked. Each combines different elements from previous flags depending on the form of the new government - if the House of Borboni is restored the flag will have their familial Arms; if a confederation it may be a combination of the flag of Sicily (which, with the triskeles, is similar to that of the Isle of Man) and the flag of Naples, etc. Probably could do a whole show just on that one topic since the centuries of flags used by the kingdoms involved are plenty.
The "cup" from the Galician flag is called a ceborium. It is a golden vessel used to house the consecrated Eucharist after Mass.
That symbol above the three black and red lines on the Ryukyu Kingdom flag kinda reminds me of OBS' logo.
The Ryukyu flag's emblem is the 3 mountains, a doctrine and mentality of their people that one day they will control and invade the whole world
That’s hilariously arrogant and delusional lol

Just a note from Croatia. Dubrovnik generally isn't considered to be in Dalmatia. The entire exclave area is considered to be a separate distinct historical region.
*Cries in Central American* I though we were gonna see the Confederación Centroamericana, it was so important to our history that most of the Central American flags are clearly inspired by the one of the Confederación Centroamericana, that's why Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua flags are SO similar... Galicia as an independent kingdom existed only shortly during the Middle Ages. It existed until 1833 but as an administrative division of the Kingdom of Spain (or Castille only), when the title "kingdom" was retired from all regions.
Surely the "cup" in the Galician flag is a ciborium?
It’s 100% the thing they put communion in after it’s sanctified for adoration
