- Today’s feature is the story of a guy that was top 15 in his high school class, McDonald’s all American, and thought to be one of the next great hybrid bigs of the 2010s leading into the new decade. In high school Brandon McCoy couldn’t find much games he didn’t dominate, being 6’8 as a freshman when he led his team to a state championship. Thereafter that picture became a bit more cloudy as the years went by, and like the game for Brandon McCoy, they went by fast. It took him one year after high school before he thought he was ready to take the next step and enter the NBA draft, only to realize in hindsight the pro game is much more different than he thought. And he wasn’t the only one. Yes there was some scouts that felt he needed a bit more development, but some evaluating his talent believed with some time he could possibly be a sleep in the 2018 draft, pointing to games like the one he had against the eventual #1 overall pick Deandre Ayton, scoring 33 points and finishing with 10 rebounds. That game was a decisive one, that taught Brandon McCoy and hopefully players after him that the journey to the NBA isn’t promised. All American Brandon McCoy Was a Sure Fire NBA Draft Pick! I know this is primarily a channel dedicated to basketball but I would love hearing your insights on Boxing athletes that didn’t quite maximized their potential.

I think we could all learn from their Triumphs and Follies.
Sometimes guys can start playing in high school and make it, but a lot of times the first stunt is starting playing basketball too late. The shot is not there, the defensive reflexes are not there, the deep understanding of the game is lacking. I think bottom line here is he should have been playing basketball before ninth grade.

The NBA should leave the draft to an invite for kids still in college. They could simply have the teams honestly admit that they are interested and if so then offer an invite to be drafted

This guy was labeled the "next Michael Jordan" and he believed it. Built with a 6'6" 215 pound frame, he was a part of the Flyin' Illini Squadron along with Kenny Battle and Marcus Liberty. A 1990 first round lottery pick of the Charlotte Hornets, this guy was so cocksure that he once told the media "Fuck Charlotte!" while playing for the Nets and was traded back there anyway. Don't get me wrong, he had a good career but he was never the hyped talent he believed he was. Next on Stunted Growth: Kendall "Cold World" Gill.

I can clearly remember that when Kendall Gill played for the Supersonics, it was rumored that he battled with mental health issues. I don't know if that was true or not, but I could clearly remember that He wasn't the same Kendall Gill that played at Illinois or for the Charlotte Hornets.
