The Real Ben McLemore NBA BUST Story! Stunted Growth

- In an ESPN article Ben Mclemore imagined a different circumstance to begin his NBA career, where a different franchise drafted him. One more stable, one that didn’t have 3 coaches in his first 4 seasons, saying he’s thought about it everyday, that maybe in better situations he could’ve been a more successful NBA player. He added that so much is about being in the right place at the right time and to that he couldn’t be more spot on. It’s like that in all walks of life, but specifically in basketball that sentiment could make or break a player and alter his legacy. In professional sport it’s what you give up when you decide to sign up for being in a system of drafting players to teams without the player having any say in where they initially end up. Yes Ben Mclemore had it tough having to see a coach in Mike Malone who he loved leave after just his second year, and yes the franchise brought in other players at his position when he began to under perform, but this was a guy given a 7th overall pick opportunity. How many players in the history of the world can say they were drafted top 7 overall into one of the most coveted leagues in the world? With that opportunity Ben Mclemore failed to live up to the hype he had leaving Kansas, compared to hall of famer Ray Allen, and thought to be the saving piece for DeMarcus Cousins and the Sacramento Kings. SOme had him a lock future star in the league, but for these reasons that never happened. What did? The Real Ben McLemore NBA BUST Story! Stunted Growth

Always felt the hype was too much to match the talent with McLemore. Sacramento reached on him way too high and his career suffered in that circumstance.
Do more players Do Pierre Jackson from Baylor or Keifer skyes Wisconsin Green Bay
Paul McPherson who was all-state in Lake Shore high School in Chicago, went to DePaul with Quinton Richardson, went to Denver and Phoenix Sun's, Won Magic Johnson 1-on-1 MTV Tounamment, READ WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM NOW 😮😮😮
I agree it was a reach at 7. He could have been a solid rotation guy if he went later or waited another season
Whoever scouted him fucked up they said he was a shooter and I knew Ben we played on the same HS team he never was a shooter
Cam Reddish gives me big Ben Mclemore vibes.
I was literally about to type this. They’re one in the same. Both athletic, with good shooting mechanics, similar builds and even hair styles now 😂🤣😂. Both also have been scouted as having low motors and bad work ethics
Cam is way better in defense though
Spot on
Good comparison
@@arpeeh21and can actually dribble
McLemore was a bucket on 2k though
😂😂 if only he could get a max contract from NBA 2K
Nahh frrr bro was gettin me hella assists
Definitely a 2k 13-16 scoring machine
Him, Gerald Green, igoudala. Those dudes with the perfect height, right amount of athleticism, and best jump shot that you could time perfectly .
@@youngblood4127 bruh I can’t remember what 2k it was but the one with igoudola on the nuggets bruh was godly constant 50pt games in play now
Idk why I deadass was thinking bout Ben McLemore yesterday and here we are 😭
Ben McLemore came to my mind few days ago and then this video appeared on my YT algorithm today.
Loool pause but he’s one of those dudes idk why, he’s popped in my head randomly too. He was underrated.
I remember they labeled him the next "Ray Allen" coming out of Kansas. That was unfair expectations to put on him..
Been waiting on this one. That one season at KU he had was special. I remember people saying he was Ray Allen with bunnies
Ray had bunnies though..
@@themovements6189facts they forget you ray could put u on a poster
So...just ray Allen then?
Ask T-Mac about Ray Allen's...bunnies 😂😂😂
Just say you didn’t start watching hoop until 2010 😂
Anthony Edwards is what McLemore should've been. I almost think they're exactly the same player, but one is a superstar and other one just has never had any consistency in anything.
Facts 😂
ant more athletic
@@gohansawyer3907 Ben McBucket had a slightly higher vert
@@gohansawyer3907 i know athleticism doesnt = only vert btw
Edwards has better handle and good enough weights to punish his opponent in the post. McLemore did not have the same level of ball handling and he was rather slender though muscular
I saw him play in person in high school several times in St.Louis. He and Bradley Beal were in the same graduating class. He made ESPN top 10 with a dunk in a summer league game before his Senior year.
I thought this dude was going to be what Anthony Edwards has become.
Please do Lamont Murray next, had hops, perfect size for a SG, had decent handles, can shoot, played for bad teams like the clippers and cavs, was solid in the 90s to the early 00s.
"Lamond Murray" 👌🏿
Crazy I forgot this man existed.....wow
Great video,Sir. Now, let's discuss that Sherman Douglas video 😊😊😊😊
Damn Ben was a bucket back inna day on 2k, Mike Malone a real one too
Do Kevin Martin as a Growth Spurt !!((Sacramento Kings)) next !!
Kevin Martin didn't have a growth stunt. Drafted in the late 1st round, he really overachieved his draft slot. His skinny frame made it difficult for him on the defensive end and his court vision and passing skills were sub par. But he was a gifted scorer who was extremely efficient from inside and beyond the arc. Along with his ability to draw fouls and shooting nearly 90% at the stripe, he was a borderline all star player during his prime. Unfortunately his skinny frame couldn't withstand the grind and bumps of the NBA, which is why he was injury prone
Kevin martin drafted late first round, had plenty of season where he avg 20+ ppg that doesnt scream bust career to me
@@royalace2271he was also 1 dimensional he did nothing but score he will get u 25 but give up 30
Out of all the Kings picks, you ask for the one actually over performed?
He did good 👍🏼 made hella 💸 😂😂😂
Welcome back dawg 👊🏽
Man, thanks so much for this. ☮️🙏🏽
Diddy, usher, meek mill smh we got to talk my boy
Lol @@AirMcCants11s
Ngl, Bill Self can get guys to the league(Embiid, Wiggins) but some of those guys at KU unfortunately didn’t succeed due to their own faults, injuries or development by teams not having guys understand that every play won’t be a home run. The Kings during the late 2000s-early 2020s(pre-2022/23) were some dogshit teams. Management fucked some of those guys over
I was wondering if you ever got around to him.
I remember this brother man. Amazing. He had stupid hops and a really nice jumper.
It boggles the mind how he and other guys from Kansas during this time never had a successful career in the league.
Do you think you could do Perry Ellis sometime?
This shows the importance of coaches! A coach is like a team psychologist. You can be talented but coaches are the ones who can see things that players can't see and believe!
Without the benefit of knowing how things turned out, I thought Ben McLemore and Bradley Beal were similar players coming out of college. Both 6'3"/6'4". Both were off the ball guards known for their shooting. The irony is both are from St Louis. Both are the same age. But Ben had to sit out a year because of his high school transcript so Bradley got drafted out of college a year before Ben. Bradley got drafted to a team where he could develop and have the green light(Washington). Ben going to the Kings over the course of the years he was there didn't have such freedom. What a difference a year can make on the landscape of the league and who a player gets drafted to. Great video @stuntedgrowth !
Beal learned to create his own shot and kept his jumper. Ben always needed another guy to create the shot or lay up for him
One of the best SG’s you’ve ever done - detailed on why he didn’t make it both on/off the court. Would love to see one on Ricky Price, Duke SF 1994-1998. Looked like the next great Duke wing after Grant Hill only to end his career in Coach K’s doghouse. Why?
JT, have done vids on Frank Mason III and Quin Cook? If so could you re-post them? If not could you produce them?
You should do videos on Jay Edwards and James Blackmon. Both were stars from the same high school as Zach Randolph in Marion, IN and both played in the NBA for a second. Love these videos man
I clicked on this video so fast.
I was a freshman at KU when McLemore played. he was cold there for that season
Bro had potential didn’t really show it in the nba sadly
Had a solid stint as a spot up shooter with the rockets and that was about it
@@bpswank429 yes
@@bpswank429 yea sadly
@@edwardkimakaballislifekim_578 his new legal name is Ben Mclebust
You should do one about Austin Daye. Dude had a unique game that never seem to pan out...
Honestly, that's probably what happened - he looked unique but wasn't really NBA ready
Watching him in college he was definitely over drafted
Trey Lyles for example was a similar type of unique but he actually did more than just look unique
Stanley Johnson too
Had he come back for his sophomore year, they'd have him, A. wiggins and Embiid. He came back to Lawrence during the playoffs his rookie season and he was at the same bar I was. NBA was on tv and it was the game where Dame ended the Rockets' season. I asked him if he thought Dame was that dude. He gave me this look like "how dare you ask me that." Some other stuff happened that night too, but I'm not tryna be a chatty patty. But it was a weird exchange. I could see he was already kinda upset about how his career was going
Do one on Randy Foye
This was a good profile bruh...i definitely remember his college yrs
Do Pokuševski, the white Durant.
Ja, Kaiser Franz. I want it too
bro is NOT the white Durant
Def one guy I was 100% sure was gonna be a all-star. Like for sure. My biggest miss ever lol
Yo JT, we need one on John Wallace and Chris Lykes.
This hurt my heart to watch, def thought he was a ray allen prototype
One-and-done stories like Ben's are why I always wonder if some guys should stay longer at school. Situation matters, and maybe he could have been a bit better had he stayed longer at Kansas and taken a bit more time to develop. But I guess when you're a lottery pick with immediate millions and (usually) four years to prove yourself, that doesn't exactly matter to most on that level🤷🏾♂️
He was a 2 and done he didn't play his freshman year at Kansas
@@andrebryant5081 he was a redshirt freshman. That's all that matters to the NCAA and the pros
With millions of dollars on the line...living in poverty, with so many people depending on you...would you?
Kansas HARDLY develops players
You have Chalmers, Wiggins and Embiid...everyone else just doesn't do anything
as a Kansas fan who watched him play several times, one thing that stood out to me was that he didnt have great handles....he wasnt gonna break guys down off the dribble and get to the rim very often..his scoring came from 3s, oops and other set plays
I have been waiting one on Omari Spellman. The man is made for Stunted Growth. Had crazy potential and even was picked above Jalen Brunson. It turned out that the only season he played well was his second year at Villanova, which also happened to be the only season he was able to maintain his weights. Even in Korea, where he won one Championship, his weight issue led him to getting cut very next year
Been peeping your channel for a few years bro!! Weekly staple. Don’t know you’ve done Samardo Samuels yet. Big Louisville fan, been trash trash 😂.
This kid had soo much game I loved watching him play at KU
Man, I wanted him so bad in that draft. I remember the young Ray Allen comparison and I was enamored.
I feel like this is somebody who still could play with Denver in particular
Do Justin Reed From Jackson Mississippi. Played at Ole Miss. Was all SEC all 4 years.
Can you do a growth spurt video on Giannis or Jokic
He did Jokic own already
Remember Jalen Rose compared him to Brandon Roy pre injury. Smh
Steve Logan🗣️let’s get it maaaaan!
Arrested this morning 😮
How went to wellston high school first before it closed down
Dfox really came into his own in his fourth year. Mclemore had some solid games but the Kings haven't shown him the same patience.
True but De’Aaron Fox showed signs of stardom in those first three years. Ben McLemore’s career never really got off the ground.
Fox's sophomore year was the justification sac needed to have that patience with him.
Mclemore never had a season close to that to deserve that patience.
You gotta make a video on Jared Harper, 5’ 10 guard was a beast in auburn but never got a shit in the nba even though he kinda looked decent in stints
Do Jodi Meeks
5:06 Can anyone identify these shoes please? I’d love a pair.
Do one on Robert Sacre.
Do Micheal Carter Williams next
I forgot about Ben that quick. Damn.
Do Johnnie Flynn
How 'bout a couple from back in the day? Fennis Dembo and Derrick Chievous!
Third video requesting a stunted growth vid on Justin Patton.
You should do Josh Howard.
Jeremy Richmond who played for Waukegan High School and played one year for Illinois before going undrafted
Hooped with Ben damn near everyday his redshirt year. I got all my off-ball movement from him #RockChalk #KUCMB4L
The Kings really had a lot of stunted growth candidates
Historically
Don't get that franchise, never developed anyone until very recently
Mclemore seems like he's been around forever.
Naw, that white R&B singer blew up from that Microsoft commercial.
6'3" they listed him at 6'6"🤯🤯🤯
Man. This headline speaks to me. I thought he would be the biggest stud from that draft and he ended up being nothing.
It never the media saying he could be the ray allen of his class because of his shooting and athleticism. Dude looked, walked & moved like a star nba okayer
Tony Massenburg……. first player to win a NBA title (2005 Spurs) after playing for twelve different NBA Franchises from the early 90s to mid 00s…..
It's crazy how many ppl jist ignore fundamentals and make it to the league based off talent
Eric Paschall
DeAndre Jordan went to Christian Life Center when I was in HS and we’re in our division. Our first matchup he was academically ineligible to play and we won. A few years later on my little brothers team they play Ben at CLC and Ben was ineligible and we won 😂
Going from Coach Malone to Coach Karl is da definition of goin backwards. Idk how Karl kept getting jobs when he was notoriously bad w players
Nahhh I ain’t letting y’all call fam a bust; after his younger brother passed he wasn’t the same on the court.
Can you do a video on Markquis Nowell?
Getting drafted by the kings is the biggest growth stunt any player could have
How can you man it to the NBA and not understand off ball defense? 9:57
Do Jonny flynn😂
I can imagine had B-Mac been more closer to 6'5 than 6'2, the Kings would've invested in him being their guy.
Honestly whoever scouted Ben should be fired that was the first mistake. When did he become a shooter? Thats ridiculous
Do Isaiah hicks next
He was Andrew Wiggins before Andrew Wiggins
cam reddish
Ray Allen
Every bucks player after 2008 Micheal redd oj mayo jabari Parker Larry sanders really until Giannis flourished it’s nothing but content
I Remember Kawhi Took The Ball From Him On Back To Back Plays 🤣🤣😩
Do Sherwood Brown.
Kings during that time were such a terrible organization. Malone is now a champion coach and it was clear then that he should’ve stuck around
Now do BEN SIMMONS next…
Frank Ntilikina
Kevin Knox
Dragan Bender
He ain't last cuz he 1 dimensional. What else can he do besides score. That's y he overseas Js
While it’s understandable that he prefers development-friendly coaches, he needed to understand the NBA is a business and that defense is just as important as offense. What good is scoring on folks if they all score back on you all the time?
Really thought he was gonna be the Next Ray Allen.
What happened to Nik stauskas
Couldn’t shoot
And when that’s pretty much your best trait…. Yeah not much time in the league
Ben is 6’5
Joe Forte !
Him Evans and cousins would have been 🔥
On myplayer we won Ships
I thought he was Ray Allen 2.0 coming out of Kansas 💯
Another player that didn't live up to everyone's expectation. I kind of compare him to Michael Beasley who had a lot of talk going around the draft but never really showed up that anyone talked about.
If he had a high motor and defense. He would be a perennial 6 man of the year
Once I saw who he married, I knew he wasn’t one of those ones. IYKYK…
Remind me of cam reddish.. have ever did Johnny Flynn
the question is: If Khawi Leonard was drafted by the Kings and not the Spurs? would have been the same player?
Yes as long as Khawi invest in his jump shot
Yes you can’t teach dawg
Nope.
