- Today’s feature is the recently retired former third overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft, taken before the rookie of the year and two all stars, likely to be named hall of famers somewhere down the road. He played 10 years in the NBA for 5 different teams, and has never averaged at least 15ppg and no all star appearances. His career was plagued with injuries, only playing 70 games 4 times and 80 just once, still in 2017 he signed one of the more favorable contracts in the history of the NBA when the Wizards matched an offer from the Brooklyn Nets for 4 years 106+ million dollars. Or was it one of the worst in history seeing as less than 18 months later Otto Porter was no longer providing his services for the Wizards, traded to Chicago after a down year where the whole team underachieved? Depending on who you ask either could be the case. Also depending who gives you their opinion Otto Porter Jr’s career in complete can go either way as well, with some feeling for the 3rd overall pick in the draft to never quite reach to the star potential everyone said he had leaving college, or even the point you’d consider him a championship level third option like his ceiling suggest in hindsight. What side are you on? Is Otto Porter a bust being he was the 3rd overall pick, or did he do what he was supposed to, securing the bag at 30 and able to enjoy it while he's still young?
considering what standards being 3rd overall pick means he's a bust people like MJ, Harden Melo, McHale were 3rd overall picks he underachieved which makes him a bust regardless of securing a bag.. these days most NBA players get big checks imagine helping a team win the title and then the next 2 years you're struggling to get PT, traded, then waived. happy for him but he's a bust
30 yrs old, got the bag🎒, retired..... sounds like O.P. good
It’s crazy when people call a player a BUST when they have ZERO say in where they are drafted lol. BLAME THE SCOUTING AND PRESIDENTS AND GMS
Bust
@@seanmorris6033 damn homie
A ring, over $100 million earned, pension, and only 30. Dude won at life.
100m is like maybe 60 after taxes breh. Yea they get taxed too
But still 60m but it ain’t 100 that’s fashooo
He was absolutely a disappointment. But I wouldn't call him a bust. His career was plagued with injuries and yet he played for 10 seasons. He had a serviceable career, just not one you would expect from a third overall pick
then he was a bust we have to get away from seperating injuries as being a bust taking care of your body is fully in your control i get it some guys are jsut dealt a bad hand but learning how to land how to play physical against other guys so you don't hurt yourself is all a skill it's not by coincidence that Steph doesn't get hurt anymore after having those early ankle injuries go look at footage he was doing more than his body could handle with dribbling and would get hurt injuries definitely play a part in being a bust
SMH, I was so excited when they got him
Idk if I’d call him absolute disappointment, but I agree with you. Mostly because of being a top 3 pick, he’s in that weird Kwame Brown zone of playing along time…but also not living up to potential.
He had no business being drafted there. Never showed any signs of being a star in college.
@@WaveChronicles0 He started and won Championship games in the nba
3rd Overall Pick , 10 Years Played Made Over 100 Million , Won A Championship, Still Young , And Gets His Pension …That’s A Success Story ‼️
Bingo
W
He never should've been in the NBA
Golden State Otto Porter was his peak
For real dude made every shot I swear lol
Nah he was better in Washington he was a legit starter level player for a contending team while in Washington
@@TerribleTakeWashington was never a contending team.
GSW fit Otto’s play style better. WAS was heliocentric with Wall.
I’ll always remember Otto for winning Shaqtin A Fool for being frozen on defense 😂
That was a good one. LeBron has some
That frozen moment shocked me…like bro you’ve been watching “ball and man” your whole life wtf lol
The main reason why those Wizards from 14-17 imploded was the fact this guy, Gortat and Beal thought they were on the same level as John Wall. But big ups to him.
😂😂Wall was the life of that team and watching Beal be the guy after was just depressing. Wall could have stayed after his injury but hey Washington looks like they know what they are doing future looks bright 😂😂😂
He should’ve never got picked where he did. That gm was the real bust
You forgot to mention that he’s the long lost son of Wilt Chamberlain
😂
When Golden State picked him up in 2022 i knew he was going to have his best season.
That 2013 draft was so bad teams should have traded picks that draft even number 1 pick Anthony Bennett wasn't hype to be a star. Only guy who had hype Victor and he couldn't go number 1 because Kyrie and Waiters were considered the future in Cleveland at the time.
He was a real good role player.. In that draft he’s not a bust though
That should tell how bad a draft class is when a guy ceiling is role player going top 3.
@@andrebryant5081 100%. The two best guys in that draft were projects that happened to plan out, crazy
Wilt... you... ARE THE FATHER!!!! -MAURY!!! LOL
💀💀🤣🤣
or grandfather
@@justtimes9257 maybe that 😂😂😂
You didn't have to start cooking em like that at 9:00 😂😂
Otto Porter, Jr. I remember him with the Wizards for sure. Great in Georgetown.
I’m a 94 baby. Hearing that someone a year older than me is retiring from the NBA makes me feel old af. 😂
It's fair to say he underachieved as far as being drafted #3 overall and what's expected at that value of a draft pick. He overachieved in terms is getting a bag and a ring out of his career. He made a solid contribution in winning that ring with GS. He somewhat finessed the Wizards..😂 As they say, you get what you negotiate. Ultimately, a win for him in life.
Respect
I’m just happy he got paid. Lord knows lesser men have made more in this country
he was one of those guys who every time he looked like reaching his potential he had an injury setback that lowered his potential. Finished as a reliable cool headed veteran role player on a warriors championship team. I think given the injuries he had made a pretty impressive career of it.
Might as well do one of these for that entire draft class
his jumper looks super smooth
Otto Porter had a successful career..he had NO BUSINESS being drafted 3rd overall. He was a 3rd option type guy even in College. Blame the GM for that. He was almost always solid and efficient on both sides of the ball when on the floor and made a lot of money.
Gotta admit that I SWORE he would STEP up when Wall went down!!!!! I remember telling my son that!!!!😉😆
This was a great video ! haven’t heard his name in a while
He Good in the Bay. He will never have to buy his own drink here.
10 seasons and a ring gets people in the bust discussion now, thats wild
if you picked in the top 3 you should be a superstar but he had a okay career for a role player
@@guapymg2815 do you have any idea how many top 5 picks, that play MAYBE 2-3 seasons and then just end up in the g league or overseas? Me neither but if we counted i bet we'd be shocked at how high the number is
One of the only children of wilt chamberlain that will make the NBA
You forgot John Wall😂
😂😂😂😂 he deadass looks just like wilt
@@tcity1278 mane he don’t look like that man really 🤣
@@thewhitedevilfromthebible5899 they said that man was going crazier then Al Greene. So many kids he don’t know about prob
It was a huge red flag when he choked big time in the NCAA tournament lol
That was the flag for me. I watched him a little before the tourney and kinda saw the potential. But I really didn’t get the hype after that
You cant be a bust if you got drafted 2013. Regardless of how high the pick was. No lottery team got anything from that draft.
I think the first 14 draft picks combined 1 total all star selection.
Silly to think that some teams actually tanked the previous season.
He should of stayed at Georgetown for another season.
I actually think Otto Porter was a really good player at his best. He was an elite catch and shoot guy and played solid defense. Never really got an opportunity to do more on offense with Wall and Beal, and had some injury issues later on, but he was a quite impactful player when it comes to winning.
@stuntedgrowth Do a video on courtney alexander or Chamique Holdsclaw.
4th vid of asking for a stunted growth vid on Justin Patton the 17th pick of the 2017 draft. Dude had potential but was not it. John wall also shaded him heavy.
Can you do a video for Gary Trent Sr.? He was the 11th pick (1st Round) back in 1995.
I suggested this one right after he retired, You must've missed it !!
Only here cuz of Cam and Mase "Shoutout to the porter Family 🤥" 😂
He's a bust if he was supposed to be a star. He isn't if you understand how hard it is to be NBA player for 10 plus seasons.
It is all about perspective the majority of players in most teams rotation were all mostly drafted in the lottery (picked from 1 through 14), I think if you’re the team that drafted them in the lottery then yeah they’re a bust but if you’re the team that’s profiting from said player playing his role perfectly on your team then you probably don’t look at that player as a bust. For example Kentavious Caldwell Pope was drafted 8th overall from the University of Georgia to the Detroit Pistons they might consider him a bust. To the Lakers and Denver he helped them win a championship as a 3 and D player on both teams sometimes as a starter and sometimes off the bench.
@@WatchingvideoslikeuI like the KCP example a lot. Before you said it, I forgot he was taken that early, and maybe that’s part of it. If you’re a dude who’s expected to be a star, then you’re labeled a bust if you’re anything less. But if you were considered to be a solid player who might become a star, as long as you’re at least a quality starter it’s good lol
If a 2nd round pick is supposed to be a star is he a bust?
@@DMalltheway No one has that goal for them which is Jokic is a rare breed NBA player
@@andrebryant5081 👌
Did you do Marcus Williams from uconn yet?
Think he's done Marcus Williams
The 2013 draft was weird. Everyone wiffed on their scouting except with Oladipo going second, since all the good players were picked outside of the top ten and being rounded out with Gobert at almost the last pick of the first round
I like see you do episode on David Lee
Otto Porter Jr. Was the Michael Jordan of Hollis Thompsons 😂
Honestly being from Toronto Canada 🇨🇦 👍, the raptors got the benefit of the doubt 🙋♂️ for real. The trade that sent Otto Porter, kira lewis & picks for Ochai, & Kelly, that's crazy, then he retires WHAT 🤣🤣🤣
Can we get a video on Rodney hood
This is dope for sure. Has anyone requested Stacey Augmon from UNLV? Man that would be dope!
Poor man’s Jayson Tatum basically . Otto bust Jr
I didn't read the title, I thought Steph went back in time to Wilt's days for a sec there 😂

Otto Porter was mids af at Georgetown
AS A FAN HES A BUST BUST. AS A PLAYER HE WON WITH THOSE CONTRACTS
He made it to the league sustained to keep getting checks lives his dream
So much of your career is based upon what team you're drafted by.
I saw Otto Porter at Atlantis. I'm 6'9" that dude was like 6'11". He's way taller than I thought he was.
He won in life and in the nba considering how much he was paid for the mid work he put in ! It’s sad to say it’s a ton of guys who where drafted lower or not drafted at all and contribute more to their teams that will never get the contracts Otto got smh .. but best of luck to Otto on his life off the court 🫡
Being a wizard's fan is so depressing lmao
I thought he was playing overseas I didn't knew he was still playing
Idk how the Warriors got a full season out of him. He was honestly great coming off the bench and contributed a lot to the team
OTTOMATIC!
Bro made it to the league, he cant be a bust. He cooking everyone in comments on his worst day
Do wade Baldwin iv
Pls do frank Jackson
Honestly the fact he was drafted to be the 3rd option and complimentary peace means they pretty much got what they wanted. 14 points per game with average (sometimes above average) defense and high 3 point efficiency is solid for that role. I do believe if he never had the injury bug he’d be a starting role player on any team. With all that being said as a 3rd overall he was basically a bust. They definitely could have just traded down and got someone else but hindsight is 20/20 I guess.
Could have drafted KCP for the same role by trading down and get a future first round pick
Otto Porter didn't really have either.
You can argue that the injuries got in the way of his peak but a 11 year career with 47/40/80 shooting splits and a good role player for a championship team when your ceiling is Nic Batum or Tayshaun Prince is totally solid.
Did Paul Pierce really sh*t himself or was that cap
As a DC native and Wizards fan. Otto Porter was a huge bust! We drafted him over Giannis, sources from the team were telling local radio that he was a Scottie Pippen/Kawhi Leonard type of player.
That’s what we thought at the time …
He was average on the court, but a legend at the bank!!
His dad is Wilt Chamberlain right ?
100 mil and a ring. He won.
Dude was a terrible bust. Was way overpaid in the end.
Now this is a legit cover.
Porter can be help contender last push playoff run
Hes was a nice 3/D guy
Danny Ferry next!
Duane Causewell from the Sacramento Kings
Far from a huge bust, and I do wonder if I would consider him a bust. If not making an all star would make you a bust, he is one then but as a 3rd pick just being serviceable it’s great. Otto was just a jack of all trades as a player.
He’s a bust … the best player in 2013 class is CJ McCollum close to that is Victor Oladipo
106 mil he won no matter what you say.
lol this caption is misleading ......he said it was injuries ..why yall tryna make it seem like he had a bad attitude
He'd still be a lottery pick in a redraft
i wasn’t following college at the time but i don’t get the hype lol if he was in such a weak draft how was he really a bust?
Otto didn’t have that dog in him. Somethin that all players need to be great. He had the talent, but not the dog. Gotta be a dog to make it in the NBA because all pups get exposed
Hes actually Wilt Chamberlain jr.
Wasn't they saying he was Wilt son
Grandson Wilt's grandson because the resemblance is uncanny
Otto was probably the correct pick by the Wizards at 3 that year (no chance Giannis was going that high, even late lottery seemed like a reach at the time), he was a part of a couple good playoff runs and was a solid starter in an era where 3 and D wings were at a premium.
The right player they should have drafted was KCP he is a better 3 and D guy little smaller but more athletic
@@andrebryant5081 That's fair, I agree KCP is the better player. The argument for Porter really depends on fit, WAS already had Wall and Beal so getting third guard in KCP might have presented some matchup issues against bigger opposing forwards.
I think Warriors got most out of Porter. He’s a good guy to have on your second unit
Looking like wilt and lionel richie
he would’ve been a bust if he didn’t contribute so much to the warriors team in 2022 .
Wilt wore number 13
Made a ton of money and won a championship. Sounds pretty good to me.
Wish warriors had him sooner instead of the bulls
An NBA bust that left early to save his money, hes a BUST! And now owners have another reason to shorten the season ans give players less and less money.
If I were him id stay playing if u can still hoop and collect checks why not keep going.
Can't call him a bust because that was a very bad draft
Drafted too high for his talent level. Mediocre career at best. Injury plagued in addition to a low motor style makes him forgettable.
