Deron Williams Career Tanked Way Too Soon! Stunted Growth

  • Today’s feature is one of my favorite point guards of all time. When Deron Williams was in his prime, he was once a top two point guard in the league along with Chris Paul battling for who was actually #1 this week. What I liked most about Williams was in the history of the NBA game I’ve literally never seen anyone with his dribbling package, footwork and mechanics. Yes Steve Francis and Allen Iverson performed crossover moves, but the way they did them and how it affected the defender was much different, thus like fingerprints, basketball players, the ones who are elite at what they do, have very distinctive games, and Deron Williams was most certainly a one of one. He would attack in a sharp edge kinda way so to speak, meaning he was the only guy I’ve seen that can start one way full speed, then literally on a dime change direction on you and have you leaning as a result. He wasn’t ranked highly leaving high school, but he caught on fast and played the right way. He stayed in college until he developed, became the #3 pick in the draft, made 3 all star teams, 2 all NBA second teams before a drastic fall off happened, leading to him being traded multiple times from franchises he was the face of. Instead questions about what happened to Deron Williams that tanked his career way too soon.

D Will was my favorite point guard all throughout high school. I was convinced that he was an overall better player than Chris Paul. I never would have thought his decline would come as early as it did. The clear face of the jazz and a top 3 point guard in his early prime. Wish he had bought in to Sloans philosophy whole sale. I think Sloan knew talent wise he had a truly special talent and that D-Will was way more gifted than John Stockton. I believe with one more key roster addition could've taken the Jazz places Stock & Malone couldn't. Or at least got the jazz back to the finals had he stayed in Utah. But Injuries really did slow him down and zap him of his quick twitch movements. Though I was glad to hear he reconciled with Sloan right before his death. Regardless Williams will always be one of my all-time favorite players to watch. Side-note he was a beast to play with on NBA 2k8.

D-Will was my favorite PG while in the league. I always thought he was snubbed of 2 or 3 more all star appearances. He should’ve had at least 6 All Star Awards. I knew since he was in Utah he wouldn’t get the recognition like players in the big market his early years. I always wanted Utah to go out and get Amar’e Stoudemire. That Utah system was always great for a PG & PF to thrive together. Those 2 could’ve competed in the western conference for at least 6-8 years if things would’ve played out right. It’s no way they wouldn’t have won at least 1 championship in both of their primes. I hated that D-Will didn’t get a ring but he’ll always be regarded as one of the best PG’s to have ever laced them up in my book.

I am a UNC (bsba) and U of I (mba) alum.
I have watched that UNC - U of I National Championship Game so many times and can’t help comparing both schools against each other.
At that time, for the sake of your video, it was Dee Brown who was the face of the Illini. And, I think Luther Head was the top scorer. It was not necessarily obvious that Deron Williams was the best player on the team.
I also felt that Ray Felton cooked the Illini backcourt in that National Championship Game.
You say that D Will’s growth was stunted, but he had the best pro career out of everybody in that game: Sean May (MVP), McCants, Marvin Williams, Felton, Head, Dee Brown.
I also think that Dee Brown should have declared for the draft when his stock was the highest, instead of trying to hold things down by himself in Urbana - Champaign.

@@swiftmillie9677 It’s not stunted growth one bit, he got a big contract almost no 2nd rounder gets compared to 1st round draft picks and overall reached a higher peak than expected, more like a spurted growth.

This might be a dumb q But on his crossover Hes leaving a lot of ground uncovered notice hes doing this on two dribbles is it possible to do it with three? Like one in the middle? Sorry not a basketball player so i dont know just seems like it would give the move greater control

AI palmed the ball a lot, Francis just used a whole lot of body and head movements to freeze you..
