MKG always played big. You can see it with what little offensive repertoire he has (offensive rebounding, short mid baby hooks, close range jumpers). He should've always been an undersized 4 but Charlotte drafted PFs three drafts in a row. The jumper was always going to be a work in progress and everyone knew it at the time. Charlotte really just drafted him because he was a workhorse and they thought he could start a culture shift, not looking into what his personality coming out of college was (and because they thought they were getting AD after probably the worst season in NBA history). Oh and Mark Price kind of left him for dead midway through promising to fix his jumper so take that how you will. There was improvement in the area right before Price left and then he got hurt. He reverted to the janky inward elbow again after coming back. Clifford is probably the only coach who ever believed in his strengths, letting him crash the glass with reckless abandon and letting him post up a bit when opposing teams hide small guards on him. The moment Clifford left, Borrego just put him in the doghouse, never used him and then he got waived.
The one thing I can say for sure is his defense was and still would have been the main reason he got to make it to the nba, because man that jumpshot is telling of his offensive game. I could not in anyway understand how that jumpshot was never fully fixed.

He got picked high because some teams have the hubris to think they can fix any flaw, which isn’t true. MKG was in tenth grade then, and I had no clue who he was, and after a while, I stopped watching Dexter, (who was not all that impressive) and just focused on him, because I just couldn't believe how hard this kid played. His motor truly never stopped, and I remember after the game, I looked online and saw that he was the second ranked player in the class of 2011, and I thought "Ah, this makes sense now." I always LOVED his motor...not necessarily his overall game because of that awful hitch in his shot, but I always believed that he'd at least be a good NBA player for the simple fact that he played so unbelievably hard all the time. While that motor always burned hot, and still does, that offensive game never developed, and he never could get that shot together, which really lead to his downfall in the league. But, shoutout to him for getting as far as he did with a pretty limited skill set.
The question- I Would look at a school if they are stacked. Then I’m looking at stats and what he did. If he’s by himself. Then I’m looking at what he could do on the floor. What matters in high school I don’t care unless your Darius garland and got injured early in the season
I think that shoulder tear did it to him. He fixed his form and shot 40 percent from 3 for like 7 games which would've went down of course. Then he tore that shoulder and his form reverted, he could've been a respectable role player had he fixed that. He played very good D in fact when he showed that chart you see it right there. He could've been like a 12ppg scorer with some rebounding and defense
If he chose FL St or Villanova, I think this story ends much better. It was clear his game needed a ton of work to play the wing. How the hell do you ignore that funky form on that jumpshot??
A lot of kids can fit into this after Paul George and K.Leonard developed from long defenders into scorers teams started looking for that. It’s why Justice Winslow was so coveted.
I grew up with him, He’s from Somerdale New Jersey I’m from the next town over in Magnolia New Jersey. Were about 10 to 15 minutes away from Philadelphia and we weren’t best friends or anything but I knew him and from a young age everyone knew he was going to go to the NBA I really thought he was going to be better than Anthony Davis
I’m a huge Kentucky fan for life and I know the cats wouldn’t have won the championship without MKG but he was definitely a bust at #2. If he had stayed another season he would’ve been drafted in the second round for sure.
honestly he truly wasn't a stunted growth he low key over exceeded.. we seen way better stay way less in the nba.. idk if this shows how much coaches love defensive wings.. him and Andre Roberson started and played in the nba for a long time for very poor jump shooters because of their defense
So did I. And it wasn't even just about the stat. He was a little fat around the midsection and he didn't really have much of a handle. But you never can tell who has the great work ethic and who doesn't.
His only major stunt was lack of shooting. If he had a solid 3 point shot he would be a more athletic mikael bridges. Solid versatile defender, good motor, great athlete. Wouldn’t have 2 run any plays 4 him. Prototypical 3&D guy. As far as his place in the drafts…all drafts aren’t created equal. I’m sure most teams back then would have drafted him if they could have based on his size, athletic ability, an youth. Can’t play the hindsight game.
that shot could have and should have been corrected. if you let the guy shoot the ball like that in practice you should be fired. he shouldnt have even been allowed to touch the basketball until they completely corrected his mechanics. starting w/ his footwork. he's sideways to the basket before he even starts to shoot the ball. everything after that is compensation. if you turn his body to face the basket all the insane arm positioning naturally will change as a result. any professional basketball player that has poor shooting mechanics can be easily corrected w/ effort. no matter what it is, you have to start at the beginning. getting your feet in proper alignment EVERY time. for this not to happen I cant help but think the coaches had no intention of helping him become a better player.
Do you think If MKG was picked later he would've turned out different?

I always LOVED his motor...not necessarily his overall game because of that awful hitch in his shot, but I always believed that he'd at least be a good NBA player for the simple fact that he played so unbelievably hard all the time. While that motor always burned hot, and still does, that offensive game never developed, and he never could get that shot together, which really lead to his downfall in the league. But, shoutout to him for getting as far as he did with a pretty limited skill set.
have you ever thought about doing a series on low draft picks who unexpectedly had All Star or HOF careers? just asking
Yup ultimate growth stunts
I’d love to see one on Tony Parker and Manu Ginobilli
He has some videos that are called growth spurts check them out on his page
He did this a little bit during his early videos but he's been stopped. He should go back to it.
He was nice at Kentucky though lets be real very unique talent
Damn that draft class was deep and recruiting class mkg came out was so deep
The question- I Would look at a school if they are stacked. Then I’m looking at stats and what he did. If he’s by himself. Then I’m looking at what he could do on the floor. What matters in high school I don’t care unless your Darius garland and got injured early in the season
Biggest finesse in basketball history
I think that shoulder tear did it to him. He fixed his form and shot 40 percent from 3 for like 7 games which would've went down of course. Then he tore that shoulder and his form reverted, he could've been a respectable role player had he fixed that. He played very good D in fact when he showed that chart you see it right there. He could've been like a 12ppg scorer with some rebounding and defense
Been preaching this, his shoulder Injury really sapped him of his athletic finishing, complete changed his game
If he chose FL St or Villanova, I think this story ends much better. It was clear his game needed a ton of work to play the wing. How the hell do you ignore that funky form on that jumpshot??
He didn't have to shoot in college because they had players to fill that role
True that , but at some point his form was revealed and a scout should have had concerns, imo
Had high hopes for him coming to Charlotte, then the injury it went all downhill from there
He’s from Sommerdale NJ and always played at the Youth center
I like your take on certain situations, you have a very good insight on things, maybe you should be on tv
I remember him in high school and college. He was tough.
Stunted Growth MJ reaching picking him 2nd overall when he clearly wasn’t a 2nd overall talent
Villanova should of been the school he should have went to being that jay wright is great coach and how that program develops players for the Nba
we need vin baker and marcus liberty would be good for this stunted growth
I concur on Vin Baker. He had a nice career overall
Vin Baker is an Olympic Gold Medalist and multiple all star, though.
Please do Desmond Mason and Fred Jones. Forgotten slam dunk winners!
Even as a high school sophomore I remember watching kentucky and said he's only going top 5 because of A.D and the blue brand 🔵.
Did you do Chris Douglas-Roberts yet?
Yes
Ain’t NO FINESSE! The HOUSE ALWAYS WINS!
A lot of kids can fit into this after Paul George and K.Leonard developed from long defenders into scorers teams started looking for that.
It’s why Justice Winslow was so coveted.
Prayer for a perfect season was an unreal documentary I wish I could find it online
He had a long career. Salute to the finesse. 😂😂😂
When you said how do you even have a form like this, with the slowmo i cried and died😂💀
i played against this guy , gave my squad COMPLETE HELL!! for 48 whole minutes with a smile on .
And please do a Nick Young vid thought he was going to he a star when he came into the league he showed alot of flashes
I thought the same...
I died when u said "what is this bro??"💀💀
I grew up with him, He’s from Somerdale New Jersey I’m from the next town over in Magnolia New Jersey. Were about 10 to 15 minutes away from Philadelphia and we weren’t best friends or anything but I knew him and from a young age everyone knew he was going to go to the NBA I really thought he was going to be better than Anthony Davis
Never forget MKG got chosen over:
Beal
Lillard
Barnes
Davis
Drummond
Davis went first but you also forgot Draymond
I’m a huge Kentucky fan for life and I know the cats wouldn’t have won the championship without MKG but he was definitely a bust at #2. If he had stayed another season he would’ve been drafted in the second round for sure.
Dope channel bro!! I subbed after one video
honestly he truly wasn't a stunted growth he low key over exceeded.. we seen way better stay way less in the nba.. idk if this shows how much coaches love defensive wings.. him and Andre Roberson started and played in the nba for a long time for very poor jump shooters because of their defense
I thought he couldve been another Iggy but I think the shoulder injury destroyed his confidence too
Im so glad other people see what I saw, his shoulder injury really affected his game
Jarvis Hayes next please
Ooh good one!
The beginning of the vid was too funny!
Devin Booker is the prime reason I don't look at college stats I underestimated him
So did I. And it wasn't even just about the stat. He was a little fat around the midsection and he didn't really have much of a handle. But you never can tell who has the great work ethic and who doesn't.
🗣Anthony Randolph next!!
James Harden is a greatly unrated tweener because he play either guard position effectively.
Like Jordan once said “NBA players today are paid on their potential not their body of work”
His only major stunt was lack of shooting.
His shot always confused me. Like it hurts to even try to shoot like that.
Your videos never disappoint my man 💯 🏀
