You didn't say that if you can do it I can do it. Now I have no confidence. I'm just going to give up and buy a new car
Old joke: "The ashtrays are full; time for a new car"
Or a new windshield
I guess he figured we all can do it... and I think that is the case.
Maybe he couldn’t do it, maybe he tricked us all by filming someone else doing it 😲 then when it come time to do his sign off he was overrun with guilt and couldn’t bring himself to lie to us twice in one day 😂😂
This is proof, I'll watch anything on SMA.
"On this episode of SMA, Eric. O sweeps the floor and takes the garbage out while wisecracking, and Josh finds a quarter under a car seat." Gets 200,000 likes. :)
I stuck it on the outside of the windshield. Is there a way I can still attach the mirror?
Drill two holes through the glass and zip tie it.
just turn the glass over
yes, and the person ahead of you will see themselves! Genius. :D
Excellent shitpost Mr. Dotcom, have an up boat.
instructions unclear, mirror attached to tailpipe.
Should've let the full minute play out in real-time. After all, we're here to watch paint (or rear view mirror adhesive, whatever) dry with ya! Lol..
Would've worked better with a shot of brake cleaner. :)
"If a little is good, more is even better, and too much is just right."

The bigger the gob, the better the job.
I didn't know Eric worked for the Verge...
How many of us are old enough to remember when new cars had rearview mirrors attached by a metal bracket to the metal car body?
Yeah, and unscrew it and replace, easy as. And don't forget you didn't need to unhook sensors or manuever it to fit around a e-tag.
My 94 Integra is like that. Still don’t understand why it was changed.
@@wonniewarrior And you didn't have to have the new mirror programmed to the vehicle for $700 at the slealership.
@@InsideOfMyOwnMind Programmed ? Mirrors need programming now ? What next, program our bloody tail lights.
Pepperidge Farm remembers!
Oh, you missed such an opportunity!!! "And remember viewers, if I can glue it, you can glue it!!"
There he goes again, shotgunning parts. Just assumed it was the glue. Didn't even check the theory of operation. ;-)
nice one!
Well as far as mirrors go, hindsight is ..........well looking in the mirror.
Panhead, why don't you go check the theory of operations on the blinker fluid system; that'll keep ya busy for awhile. :)
What was the Pxxxx code for a rear view mirror detachment? Did you have to reprogram the mirror after reinstalling? Check identifix for direction? Any TSBs?
Hahahah.........
@@markh.6687 ohh dont forget the piston return springs as well
You forgot to spray the attachment/mating surfaces with brake clean! FAIL!
So it’s 5AM in Chicago, and I’m watching Eric O installing a mirror. Today will be a good day.
Same in Kenosha!
"It's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.....Hit it!"
Nice to see I'm not the only one up early drinking coffee and watching Eric O!
Or going to bed.
Always a great day when an Eric O video pops up! There are so many reasons to love SMA. Best wishes from London.
Love this type of videos! I love watching and learning how to do the bigger mechanical work as well, but stuff like this hits closer to home, when you don't have car jacks, jack stands, torque wrenches etc., to undertake bigger repairs by yourself. It's nice seeing how to fix the smaller things properly as well.
All the best! :)
"i just had to push it in all the way" Great idea for a t shirt
I've done a few of those in the past.
The shop I had worked in, once you did one, you did them all! Good job Mr. O!
“Using a microfiber towel, not a sponsor”. Lmao.
The very best automotive channel on the web. I’ve been following SMA auto since the beginning and I wake up each and every day looking for a new upload! Love the channel brother
Eric, you could make a video of watching grass grow and it will get a bunch of hits. It doesn't matter what the content is, it's the commentary that has you such a loyal following. You keep it real and down to earth with a little sarcastic humor thrown in. CZcams gold!
Eric, I always enjoy your videos. I've been a parts guy for over 30 years and helped a few customers with reinstalling their mirror. My advice has been to clean the button while on the mirror, better control and safer. Down here in South Georgia, the heat is the culprit. I, also, recommend to scratch or scuff up the button as well. Thanks again.
Ahh yes. Good ole muggy South Georgia weather. Idk why I like it here. Mine popped off earlier as I was working on trying to get my AC to work again. Slammed the door and the mirror came off as a good reminder to “keep my cool”. 😭
I have a 2014 Honda Civic where the entire mirror fell off. This was the perfect video. I was even able to find the same repair kit. Thanks so much!
I used my fair share of Permatex® products in my [junk driving] youth. Gas tank patching... radiator tank patching... epoxies... exhaust repair kits... but never their rearview mirror adhesive (probably only because I've never had one fall off). Thanks for sharing.
Is that a whole box of brake clean I can see????
More economical to buy the barrel, and use a sureshot sprayer, works great!
Beat me to it,,darn darn double darn!
Daily allotment to cover up to lunch break or brake....
Thomas D you’ve got to have it in can and sprayer form you get a better blast of it off the aerosols for certain tasks.
It is strange to see brake cleaner bought in the can for us West Australian, we buy it in bulk here, 20L or more and we use a pump up spray bottle.
YOUR instruction was exactly what I needed 😊 you explained it very well 🙂 I am so grateful! Thank you!
I was literally glued to the screen! 👍 😲
I used blue masking tape. Made a copy of the button and stuck it on the outside glass as a guide of where to put it. It worked great! Done peel the tape off outside glass!
I thoroughly enjoyed this hondu rear mirror reattachment video.
First time I ever did this was on my moms 93 Beretta. I wasn't even a teenager yet lol. Quite simple, key is cleaning everything properly, letting the glue cure, and also doing it in the proper teperature range!
A nice Saturday SMA interlude! Nice job.
A great mechanic always leaves a great impression or in this case a great reflection!!!
As soon as I saw that box of brake clean on top of that cabinet it reminded me to order some! Thx Eric!
Wow, who ever thought gluing a mirror could be so entertaining! 🤣 Nice job Eric, I've been up watching a boiler and chiller run all night, you fired me up, got to work on my Dodge Ram when I get home!
Great video that will be useful to the everyday person and the tech as well. You'd be surprised how many senior techs i've run into that can do major engine work, but are stumped by simple things such as reattaching a rearview mirror properly.
Watched a mechanic spend about 20 minutes trying to fit a tiny festoon bulb into the interior light socket one. Hilarious.
Hey, now the customer can view rears again. Good job Eric!
WOW! The boss really is taking the gravy jobs! I told you many times people would watch you taking a dump and give it a thumbs up!
I enjoy the hell out of your videos! Being a good ole car guy myself your videos are just a perfect blend of informative and goofy.
You had this totally under control
It was neat the way the scan tool detected the rear mirror module .
SMA#1
God bless
Paul (in MA)
Some scan tools can even read the blinker fluid system codes.
Like Derek says: "That's way too much, perfect"
Have a good weekend Eric!
Had to click like. Best Rearview Mirror adhesive video on CZcams. Really good.
Just awesome! Good morning all the way from Houston...
Videos like this really help us home gamers.
eric you’re out of shape can’t hold the tab myself good job as usual!!!!
I like the short video's as well as the long ones. Sometimes my attention span is short. Keep up the good work.
Terrific .Never severed a digit or cut an artery .Always like enjoy stuff !
Yup, lookin' good. Thanks Dr. O!
Eric O: you provided two steps normal people have difficulty with. 1. Finding dead center of the spot and 2. Holding anything dead still. And if you can do it, we can do it...half as good, but can do it.
That tremor you were feeling is you coming down off the Activator high! Nice job and way to add some suspense with an element of danger.... I mean we almost saw arterial blood
Great job and video like always
Perfect timing! Mine just fell off. Thanks
watching SMA watching paint dry was the best video ever!
nice job as always
This happens more than it should. Thanks for the help.
Love it! Keep up the good work and I'll keep on giving positive comments and giving thumbs up 👍 👍 👍
I hope those who live in RHD countries remember to get the right kit. Don't want any mirror images.
In Australia we would have to turn that little stick on bracket upside down..
And they have to turn any mounting screw anti-clockwise also. Except in Australia, where the problem is cancelled out because they're upside down. SCIENCE.
So, where’s the video where we get to watch you watching grass grow? And maybe the theory of operation of chlorophyll day AND night cycle operation!
You’re the best man! Keep on keeping on!!
I DONT KNOW WHAT ELSE TO SAY OR COMMENT TO GET A REPLY FROM ERIC OR A LIKE I GUESS THEY ARE ONLY FOR A CHOSEN FEW...SCANNER AND PINE HOLLOW AND FEW OTHER IVE GOTTEN REPLIES BUT NO HARD FEELINGS BEEN WATCHING YOUR FOR A FEW YEARS STILL A FAN AND LIKE I ALWAYS SAY TO YOU YOUR THE MAN...GREAT WEEKEND TO ALL
I performed the same repair so long ago I don't remember which car it was and I still watched this video. I need a life.
Another awesome video! I can't help but wonder how many geniuses expected to see their reflection in the mirror when he turned it towards the camera?
I have done loads of these, with extreme cleanliness and care, and have never had one last more than a year before it fell off again, there may be one of the types of kit that works better than the rest, I’ve never found it !
How about bolting it to the roof, like wiser heads figured out about a century ago?
i've watch this 3 times already this morning, well it is raining out!
Watching paint dry has been considered art for years. Your detailed step by step process of glue drying is working art and thanks to CZcams we all get to see it in action. Oh and get a laugh.
I worked at my family's NAPA store for better than 10 years and I probably sold hundreds of those mirror adhesive kits. Till this day, I've never had to use one.
Haven't laughed this much in a long time! 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks Eric!!!
You're not getting it off, until it falls off the windshield again while driving! (Had that happen myself; the SECOND try regluing it was the charm! :)).
You durn mirror polisher you!
I can see the reflection of a job well done.
My heart jump out the first time you put it on and slide it off. Thought the whole dame thing came off lol
Good teaching👍👍👍👍👍👍🙏✌👋
LoL "Hey there viewers, your watching this video cause you said you'd watch me watch paint dry!" I dont know if you were laughing as you said that but I sure did. Great video keepem comin.
I really like your videos. I would love to find a shop in my area that has your ethics and ability. Great videos
When Dad bought a new Tundra, he sold me his old 74 Chevy. I remember the day I went to get it legal. I pulled up to the police station to get a VIN inspection, got out and slammed the door (had to, bad hinge bushings) and a big chunk of rust falls off the door. Went to the insurance agent, got out and slammed the door and the mirror falls off. Went and bought some of that Permatex and glued the mirror back on and had lunch while waiting for it to cure.
One hour later the mirror is back on, so I go to the court house for my plates, got out and slammed the door and the mirror falls off again. I thought I had done something wrong because it looked like there was some clear goo still stuck to the windshield. Nope. The Permatex bonded perfectly to the glass. The glue didn't fail, the glass did. That spot where I thought there was goo stuck to the windshield? Not glue. That was a divot, a half inch crater in the glass. Permatex 1, Chevy 0.
I'd be like, "Gosh, Dad, thanks for the truck. I'll be out back shooting it to put it out of its misery!"
Did you just throw the mirror behind the seat at that point
Loving the homage to brake clean through the window. But, somehow just not the same!😂🤣
I tried to attach a mirror on an 80 Ford van about 10 years ago. The kit was permatex and it failed the next day. I tried another brand and it failed. Took it to a glass shop and they did it right!
What' that song...."I can see clearly now, my mirror's on..."
"I can see everything behind me..."
I can see all obstacles in my wake.
We're all glad that you survived that ordeal.
I was sure I'd see a die grinder with a fine Roloc disc. Sprayed off with brake clean. Wiped with the microfiber towel ( the razor blade is to quiet)
But it is nice to see that the green ooze or rust wasn't the problem
After enjoying the video I see we're I've messed up on my try.
Great video..
This is better than Saturday morning cartoons!! "Hi i'm the activator!" Maybe you could have added "Activator Super Hero!!!"
God Bless you Man Too Funny and Yet very informative and you should have made us watch the whole minute for the Adhesive to dry lol
Nice seeing a case of brake clean in the background.
So funny, what an entertaining channel to follow, ha ha ha.
There is a saying over here in the UK that I think applies to you: "You're off your trolley"
In the south we have many Elevators or many other items. I will go with “a few bricks short of a load”.
Yeah Eric, you could be off yer trolley guvnr!...lol😃

Done that one a couple times. Apparently I have a pet gorilla around here that that I was unaware of that especially likes to yank on that rear view mirror until it cries "uncle".
Hey Eric, would you please consider doing a piece on the TPMS, how it works, how to do a relearn, symptoms of failing tire sensors, and how changes in outside fahrenheit temps from warmer to colder temps, especially, affects the tire pressure and TPMS. Oh! Your special entry of a little Brakleen is always welcome, too. (I never knew a brake job could be so entertaining prior to you.) Anyway, every vehicle I own is pre-TPMS and the same gorilla asked me immediately prior to taking a road trip why the TPMS showed 24 psi in the tire and two cheap tire pressure gauges agreed there was actually 30 psi of air in that tire. I'm going with the cheap gauges on this one. 😉.
Thanks again for taking the time to give us the great education and fine humor. It's very much appreciated during this unusual time and consider swag is on its way.
I'm sure glad Eric that Mrs O has nothing to worry about if she pops out to the shop with you talking like that, be a worry if the hands was doing something like rubbing that mirror down and she hears you screaming ' OH BABY!' LIFE TO THE FULL WITH A RAZOR BLADE. Great to see some basic videos for the anybody can do jobs on their vehicles.
When he put 2 drops, I swore I heard Derrick from VGG saying "That's way too much....Perfect" :) LOL
This was my first DIY repair, long before I became a pro mechanic. Did it before I did my first oil change, even...
Am I detecting some AvE influence here? Several instances of the word “schmoo” is making me think yes.
Keep you stick on the ice!
👍for the case of brake cleaner in the background
Short or Long SMA Videos, I'm watching! I work at an Auto Parts retailer. We sell the exact Permatex adhesive kit.
I can tell you stories about the DIY customers and their attempts with this. They say the cleaned both surfaces razor clean, They don't . They attempt to glue it right over old adhesive, the OEM plastic adhesive decal, over duct tape, dirt, etc.
If they do follow the instructions, they clean the surface before marking the exact spot where the metal tab attaches; then it is
so off-sided,the sunvisor comes down and hit's it. They glue it upside down, or glue the mirror side of the tab to the windshield.
The funniest one I have seen,I walk out to the customers car in the lot, HE had attached the tab to the outside of the windshield.
It's amazing how helpless some people are. If you're the least bit mechanically inclined, you've got it over 80% of the population. How do they find their way home?
Eric you're all right tell Mrs o we said hello
The hi point of my day watching Eric put a mirror on a car WOW.
I am so glad the mirror in my car is attached to the roof, the good old-fashioned way.
I think I have not had to do this in around 20 years. Back in the 90's, I kept a blister pack of the mirror glue in each car, and had to use a few of them. After I scraped the surfaces clean, I would also wipe the area with rubbing alcohol. If you kept an 80's car for a long time (like I did), you could have to do this repair 2 or 3 times on the same car. I do miss when the mirrors were screwed on to the body above the windshield.
I got a tip from a winshield guy once that told me to just use clear silicone to reinstall those rearview mirrors. I was getting a new windshield and it came up about having one that used to fall off all the time and that's when he told me to do it that way and have ever since. I've never had one I did that to fall off so I guess it is a good way.

"Don't mind if I do!"
My m'ere has been broke off for quite some time. But, being a Ford from an abusive past, I can understand why it didn't want to have the rear view.
Happy it was not twenty minutes, but some solid advice as always
The things Mr. Eric O forgot to say during ths video.
1st. Say what type of car this was . We know it was a Honda but what model etc.
2nd The brand of Rear view mirror adhesive ( Permatec) was not a sponsor.
3rd Here is your problem mame.
4th No mention of what type of Razor he was using.
5th If I can do it you can do it.
6th Tell us to hit the like button and leave a comment, criticism, etc.
With all th being said another good video by one heck of a mechanic and I truly fully enjoy watching his video
Another well detailed video by a good mechanic Eric O.
Two different vehicles Ive had here in Canada, and bought several kits from the auto store and they lasted only a few months so someone told me about our local auto glass store, went in there it was done in just a few minutes at no cost, both times..lasted forever.I wont mention apple auto glasses name.
