    A quick fix for a ripped rear view mirror. As you can see in the video, the base came off with a piece of glass from the windshield, so the glue has to be strong enough to fill the groove and harden well to be able to handle the stress when adjusting the mirror.

    • @YvonSmart

    So i have the same problem. Do i keep the glass on the metal piece and place into the hole w/ epoxy or do i fill the hole up w/ epoxy, scrape the glass off the metal and then reattach the metal to the expoxy and then of course the mirror???

    • @YvonSmart
      @YvonSmart  Před 2 měsíci

      scrape the glass off the metal piece first, then fill the hole in the windshield with epoxy. If you are using the same glue I'm using, be swift with it when applying the glue, it hardens quickly. Also have the metal piece orientation in mind so you don't accidentally place upside down

    hey thank you so much, but there is one question, do you fill the hole entirely with the epoxy glue?

    • @YvonSmart
      @YvonSmart  Před rokem

      Yes, fill in the hole with the epoxy. I found it a little tricky to do especially due to the upside down situation and how quickly the glue can start hardening before you get to fix it up.

    • @arkalanin
      @arkalanin Před rokem

      @@YvonSmart Thanks! Oh, and also. Should you apply the glue on the metal piece aswell?

    • @YvonSmart
      @YvonSmart  Před rokem +2

      @@arkalanin No need to, this is a permanent bond between the metal piece and the windshield. You might, but the glue only goes between the metal piece and glass. You need to be able to slide the mirror off in the future.

  • @don7680
    @don7680 Před 4 měsíci

    They make a glue specific for this job, it's called Rearview Mirror Adhesive.

    • @YvonSmart
      @YvonSmart  Před 4 měsíci +1

      That wouldn't work here due to the dent in the glass. Something more viscous is required to fill in the dent (it will keep dripping down if it's too fluid), plus Rearview Mirror Adhesive is either liquid (too little) or double sided tape(not applicable here. They mostly used to reinstall accessories after replacing windshield

  • @crunchintro3358

    Did you put the epoxy on the metal piece as well and applied it to the glass?

    • @YvonSmart
      @YvonSmart  Před 3 měsíci

      I only put the glue on the glass. When it starts to harden, it dries quickly so I don't recommend applying on the metal button even though you can if you are swift enough. Use masking tape around the application area to avoid epoxy dripping onto windshield and double check the orientation of the metal button, placing it upside down is a nightmare since epoxy on glass is permanent

    Ordered some of the epoxy, can I ask if it dripped a lot when applying it? Also do I have to mix it first or can I use the syringe to apply it straight on and press the mirror tab into it? If I do mix it first can you tell me the ratio roughly? Sorry for the questions just really want to fix it properly, thanks!

    • @YvonSmart
      @YvonSmart  Před měsícem

      Hi, for the ratio, it's 50/50. It's a double syringe system so both will drip equally. It does flow down while applying, so definitely mask tape the windshield around the area. You have to mix it. Once you mix it, it can start to hardened quite quickly so be fast. Try not to mix for too long, there is also a strong smell to it. I would also place a towel over my dashboard because any droplet will be permanent
