      The trope of the snake oil salesman comes from the 1800s. Fake medicine sold as miracle cures got very common as technology made them easy to make but regulation did not yet exist.
      The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) stopped most of that for a while, but the courts ruled that 'dietary supplements' were neither foods nor drugs, which opened up the snake oil market once again.

    Just as a note about the menstruation point. It's always so funny to me when people talk about how "unhealthy" it is. I haven't had a period in 5 years due to medical intervention as I struggled badly with the pain an because it interfered with my daily life due to my ADHD and Autism. So when I tell them "Oh I don't menstruate" they always want to know what my diet is and all that. And then refuse to speak to me when I say I eat meat...

      I haven't had a period in the last 3 years or so. I was on an implant but had it took out as I was no longer with my partner. I already expected it would take maybe a few months for the cycle to begin again. Months passed and I was so confused as to what was happening. Had a collapse which sent me to hospital and found out I have a range of things going on, including PCOS. had a blood test done to check my FSH levels and they've come back fine so no early menopause but still no period. My doctor told me it's quite normal for no period with PCOS and shouldn't cause any issues. I'm also autistic by the way 😊. But it is strange not having them but at the same time I'm kind of glad because when they happened it would be really painful, extremely heavy and I felt really faint every time. I especially had to be picked up from school every other month because it was so bad. One time my grandparents came to pick me up and I was feeling so unwell with my period. My grandma stood there for a good 10 minutes talking to a teacher who taught one of my aunts who went there. That 10 minutes sure felt like 1 hour 😅.

    Fun fact: Alkaline vegans and "fruitarians" don't menstruate because they're horrendously malnourished and these women often don't realize until it's too late. Ei they try to have kids, go to a specialist when it's not working and then get told point blank that their reproductive system has shutdown. Also "my African ancestors never menstruated", ma'am, just about every single African culture has fertility Goddesses and ancient folktales, mythology and rituals surrounding menstruation and childbirth. • @midnightwritrix
      @midnightwritrix Před 6 měsíci +19

      I had an idea recently, one that I think would do nearly exactly what Click would hope to accomplish with a parenting license. "Mandatory parenting classes" may be completed before or after birth, but the hospital will not relinquish the child into full unsupervised care of the parents until x number of hours have been completed.
      One may think "home births are a way to get around this" and yes kind of, but you must provide proof of parenting courses to enroll your child in school, if you haven't completed them your child is rehomed until said classes have been completed. And tbh we should probably make homeschooling illegal so they can't loophole.

    • @denkisupremacy
      @denkisupremacy Před 6 měsíci +9

      @@midnightwritrix I dont think homeschooling should be made illegal, because what about kids struggling in school, whether it be due to bullying, learning difficulties or health issues (mental or physical)? I understand in your example it could be a loophole, but I'm sure it is also a helpful way for some kids to learn... (but idk, i wasnt homeschooled and idk any1 who was either, lol)

    • @midnightwritrix
      @midnightwritrix Před 6 měsíci +11

      @denkisupremacy it's outlawed in Germany, and honestly I think they're so smart for that. A lot of the time parents who homeschool are either pushing extreme religious beliefs and/or conspiracy theories on their kids, or they're severely under qualified and thus aren't teaching their kids effectively, or worse yet they're "unschooling" their kids and you have 13 year olds who can't read because they never wanted to learn. And even if none of those are true, the sad reality is that many homeschooled kids don't get to properly socialize with their peer groups and end up with poor social skills/intelligence.
      I guess my point is, while it can be useful for a vast minority, more often than not it actually hurts the kid, indirectly or otherwise.

    Fun fact: Chromosomes are not at all an accurate way to measure men OR women! They more often correlate with the natural hormone production of the stereotypical person involved (XY more often male hormone production, XX often female), but a large percentage of either category are also an anomaly in that sense. A not insignificant percentage of Cis Women or Cis Men could do a check of their chromosomes and find that they have the 'other' kind.
    Hormones are a lot more volatile and extremely varied than they are simplistic, and even the slightest environmental change before you are born can create an entire different effect leading you to be Who You Are.
    Suffice to say Sexual Characteristics within hormones and genotypes are more of a bell curve with two main variable camps, as opposed to "one or the other".

      From what i understand is that the Y chromosome normally starts a switch in development that starts the production for hormones for being male, If only one X and one Y are there but that doesn't always work or there are other factors that interfere with that, which are at the moment poorly understood. So from my understanding it is one part of determining if something should become male but isn't the only factor and there are other factors involved, that can result in different outcomes.

      Bomberman is... interesting. I don't know what the true reason for the Dyna Blaster name was but for a little context, that game released during the final decade of the Troubles. The IRA tried to mortar Downing Street in '91 and hit both the London Docklands and Manchester in '96. The Lockerbie bombing was in '88 too. So I can certainly see why a game named bomberman might be considered problematic here back in '90-93. Didn't stay that name long though.

      Yeah people who say vaccines and other crap like that cause SIDS infuriate me. My mom is a nurse and my older sister, my parents first child, died to SIDS and it crushed my mom for Years. It was not the f-ing vaccines. She was luckily able to have my brother the year after and me 6 years later but all that depression from it stuck with her for a long time(We are fully vaccinated). She got therapy to help deal with it and raised my brother and I both having no clue just how depressed she could get sometimes because of it and how hard she had to try sometimes to not be overly protective of us. Her and my dad were apparently close to considering divorce at one point when she was at her worst with the depression because of how much my dad struggled to grasp that mental health couldn't simply be cured or dealt with through faith and prayer. He understands it now and I honestly never knew they even had that pert in their relationship till probably about a year ago and I only found out about it because of something my mom and I were talking about. It will never not upset me how these people prey upon desperate and scared parents who are afraid of experiencing or have experienced something so tragic. There are so So many painful and deadly diseases things you can save and protect your child from through vaccinating them as directed by doctors.

    So, on the candle-gazing pineal gland bit, they did a very good job of combining their bs with real science. The pineal gland does react to the amount of light entering your eyes, because it's main role is to regulate your sleep cycle by releasing melatonin when it's dark. Additionally, in some animals (monitor lizards, not humans) the pineal gland has actually evolved into a "third eye" of sorts, in that it has migrated to the top of the head where it can detect light directly, rather than relying on signals from the eyes.

    3:25 there is this superstition in my culture and people throw away/don't store food during eclipse. Later people tried to explain this by saying that food ferments/spoils faster during eclipse . There is also a superstition that eclipse affects digestion (again not backed by science). I think that's what sadhguru (the guy in the video) is trying to say . Even if it was true that food spoils faster during eclipse we have refrigerators nowadays to store the food so no need to waste it!

      I've always been fascinated by the engineering and mechanics that go into firearm design and so it was what I ended up specializing in. I have my license as a gunsmith specializing in modification and repair.
      I was having a conversation with a few other people regarding iconic firearms used in fantasy settings and the kind of engineering that would make them work or if they were even physically possible and one of the things that came up was the main weapon used by Alucard in the anime/Manga Hellsing.
      While I was talking with these other two people a third person chimed in to tell me I was wrong when I was discussing how the original creator designed and modeled the weapons used by the main character.
      I think the thing about the situation that bothered me the most was the smug way I was "corrected". It kind of went a little something like this:
      Me: "-his other pistol is the Hellsing Arms 454 Casull Auto which is chambered in 454 casull, usually a round that is used in big game hunting, and is modeled after the Colt M1905”
      Third person: "Umm, I think you *actually* meant to say 'the 1911', try again. . ."
      To which I pulled up three photos side by side to show the pistol in question, the Colt m1905, and a Colt M1911.

      When I was about to have my 15th party (like... something really big at my country... I was taught it was like "sweet 16" in the US, but it's been ages I have seen this expression, so I'm not sure it's true), my period was late (as it always is... and no, there's not an usual quantity of days it is late, always a surprise) and I was so so so nervous I would be on my period at my party.
      I was afraid I would stain my dress somehow (even though I would be using a short beneath it (I'm sorry if it sounded funny, English is not my first language)) and I become the laziest person ever when I'm at my period. I don't like to move. My sister said that one time she checked on me and I was laying on the couch in a not so common position, and then, when she went to the living room again - three hours later - I was in the very same position (I hadn't slept).
      My party was at 14th and I think I got my period at 8th or 9th, so I was pretty sure it would be over (it usually ends in 3/4 days) when the time for my party came... Never been so happy to have a period (I always hated it with a passion - kinda still do).

    They clearly have no idea how vaccines are made or why (or are so thoroughly indoctrinated into anti-gay conspiracies that they believe anything could be in them for the most ridiculous purposes). (33:50) The idea that zero having no value but having the special attribute of multiplying numbers with 10 don't know how positional numbering works. A few points:
    - It's that the number is in the 10s column that multiplies it with 10, not the zero doing it. We can use zeros to show the position of it, but zeros don't determine it's position. 0010 is a valid way to write 10 with fixed 4 digits.
    - Showing the position of a digit isn't exclusive to 0. Every number does it ... 11, 12, ... 19. All of these show that it's 10 + the value of the 1s place.
    - Zeros before non-zeros don't make it decimals.

    The Click had waaaaay too much fun in this vid. I love it.
    My favorite post in this vid, which was towards the end of the vid was the flat earth map that showed beyond the ice wall. That map looked cool as heck and would be perfect for a fictional series that wants to delve into the flat earth conspiracy for it's lore. I've begun to use the flat earth as inspiration for a book series I want to write cause I've always wanted to do one where it took place on a flat earth.

    The word for "having awareness" is sapient, derived from latin _sapere_ (to know, to be conscious of something).Sentient means "the one who feels" as in perceiving through the senses. Both words exist in spanish as 'sapiente' and 'sintiente' and sapiente also exists translinguistically as _sapiens,_ the species name of modern humans

    34:26 this entire "men are 1 and women are 0" analogy makes even less sense for what they are trying to convey if you take it further. If a woman standing behind a man turns them from a value of 1 to a 10, then doesn't a man standing behind a man turn them from 2 into 11? This basically means that a (I'm guessing they meant) straight marriage with the man controlling everything is equal to two men marrying. This analogy is anti-lesbian though, as 00 is still 0. So the meaning is that gay marriage between men is as good as a straight marriage with a strong man and a weak woman, but a lesbian marriage is worthless(while straight strong woman+weak man is worth slightly more than nothing). It also kind of means that polyamorous gay men are the ideal(I also don't think they intended that). What happens if you add another 1 to the 11? You get 111(this of course is theoretically infinitely repeatable. The ideal(while still keeping it even slightly possible) would probably be that every man searches for 5 boyfriends).

      Someone else suggested that for lesbian relationships, you could simply write the two 0s so close that they touch, effectively turning it into infinity.
