Hello everybody! I know many of you LOVE fast food! But I have a question: Is American fast food BETTER in Japan??? I've heard this from many of my foreign friends and even tourists! So today, I decided to try Japan-only items from three of the biggest American fast food restaurants in Japan: McDonalds, Starbucks, and Domino's Pizza! Let's see if these classic American fast food places are EVEN BETTER in Japan!

Which American fast food restaurant do YOU want to try in Japan??
Oh dear!!! 1 of Japanâs CZcamsrs made a video about working at McDonaldâs and it was hilarious but probably more too the truth it Shun Chan heâs made a few CZcams videos so it was funny that you made mention of McDonaldâs thereâs nothing wrong with the fast food chains and their not too bad in the States either i would say watch out for the salt (sodium) content in the food itâs really high
Watching this again to please the pesky youtube algorithm đđ»
Dont you know all english speaking japanese youtubers make a whole long video about the sleeping train, and it always gets a million views? :) You went on it and it only was on the screen for 3 seconds! :)

Just a heads-up, I received a reply on my comment below from a scammer pretending to be Mrs.Eats claiming I won a prize. The scammer has cloned Mrs.Eats icon to look like her. So be careful people.
I do not eat fast food, in America, ever.
McDonald's: Started in America.
Also McDonald's: Gives WAY better menu items to foreign locations.
When I went to McDonald in America, I felt like the worker wanted me to get out haha!
@@MrsEats happened the same to me but with KFC :(
@@MrsEats (watch YT, "karens"- karens on both sides of the counter)
@@MrsEats ăăźç”éšă«é©ăăŸăă. American fast food workers know whatâs up. There are also a lot of secrets managers keep from employees and/or customers from knowingâŠ
at McDonaldâs, Taco Hell eer Taco Bell, çç
We in America rule fast food, but we don't have the best fast food. We do everything purely for profit and even our fast food is beyond bland.
My favorite fast food in America was Popeys!!! It was so good especially the biscuit!! I couldn't stop eating them! I think if Popey come to Japan they will be the KING of fried chicken!!
@@MrsEats I just wish KFC in Japan would get real KFC biscuits and mashed potatoes & gravy. SOOOO GOOOD. But yes, Popeyeâs is so good too!
The fast food corporations know that if they try pulling the same shit in Japan as they do in U.S by selling the same slop. They would get kicked and laughed out of the Japanese market. Most Americans after eating ultra prossesed food our entire lives especially the crap we were served in our school lunches as kids. Americans dont really know what good food is anymore. No joke they other day in the supermarket i saw this fat lady with like 20 frozen large pizza boxes and a bag of frozen chicken nuggets in her cart. Talk about sad.
Try different branches of burgers like In-N-Out, Farmer Boys. You will think differently. McDonalds and the rest are not as good as they were 30 years ago.
@@DisgruntledPigumon KFC in America sucks actually.. I don't recall having tried their biscuits there. In my country they're good af but we don't get the gravy :(
Mrs eats always just rains joy down on the viewer. Idk what type of magic this is. But I'm here for it!
Okinii!!
@@MrsEats very based
@@MrsEats Can I order a smile from you sometime ? lol
I almost want to ask if she has a sister that I could marry, just to be able to hang around with Mrs. Eats!
She's absolutely a ray of sunshine. XD
Tsundere pizza with extra baka sauce...wow. i have no words
I like how Japan has seasonal flavors. It really mixes things up & keeps the menu interesting
I refuse to believe that was actually real XD
the dominos section where you dipped the pizza in the bacon milk shake was the level of insanity I expect from this channel. THANKS MRS. EATS âĄâĄ
I was developing bronchitis when I was leaving Japan (~2015ish), and I got to Narita way too early, and I walked around, and a lot of places weren't open, but McDonalds was, and when it was my turn, the cashier suggested the shrimp burger (because I probably looked half dead/out of it/dumb), and I got it, and it was delicious, and that's the story of the time I nearly cried in the Narita McDonalds.
Local pizza/burger places tend to be a lot better than any chain pizza/burger places overall. But it is interesting to see the kind of localized options those franchises add to the menu nonthelessđ
As someone that very much enjoys shrimp, I wish McDonald's over here in the US had shrimp burgers, it would definitely be something I'd order every time I went.
Dominos in japan is REALLY EXPENSIVE, I love it here nowâŠ
Loving all of this new Mrs. Eats content in 2023! When I went to Japan, it was hard not to keep going to fast food. The service was so fantastic and the restaurants are so clean - such a big difference from the US. I don't think I would ever eat Japanese pizza though
American McDonald's, a few years ago, had some international options from European McDonald's for a limited time. I was ADDICTED to the burger from Spain. I can't remember the name of it, unfortunately. Time to do Asia, American McDonald's! I want that soysauce burger from Japan and the chicken big Mac from India (my cousin gets it every time he goes out there for work)!
Then they promptly discontinued them forever. Just a taste of what you could have had for corporate to taunt you with.
Big Mac's with Sriracha sauce. đ
Yes, đ
I'm really glad I decided to try the traditional American fast food brands in Japan. That shrimp burger was definitely super good and I definitely hate having to wait to try it again! đâ€
mcdonalds has the double shrimp burger after 5pm. Had one the other night. love em
"Smells like...your pillowcase." Absolutely savage takedown, Mrs. Eats.
I was curious about the black pepper garlic sauce, but then you said it smelled like Mr Eatsâ pillow. Iâm kind of relieved that it wasnât good because I donât think Iâd be able to try it with that imagery lol
You should try anyway hehe!! Many Japanese people say it's so good! So I have to hide Mr. Eats from them!
depends on how cultured are you. Some might be looking for that Mr Eatsâ pillow flavor..
@@ShaferHart taste profile isn't based on whether or not someone is "cultured."
Now I'm jealous of these options! I definitely want to try Fakkin around when I go to Japan someday. Also Domino's and KFC look so good.
Yes! Please try when you're in Japan!
Domino's has such unique choices, and their English website works well! I liked that I could order online delivery easily.
@@MrsEats Can you get the none pizza with left beef at Japanese Dominos? I was dying when Sora the Troll got one from Japanese Pizza Hut.
ââ@@MrsEatsalready ahead of you, I'm learning Japanese đ too bad that I am poor đ oh well I will be in Australia for the meantime
I love her bubbly attitude. It's so infectious đ„°đ„°
I am so super jelly of Mr Eats, married to a Japanese princess who can wax esoteric in both languages, and can analyze cross continental fast food in real time?
Bro, guard her with your life!
We get shrimp wraps around Christmas, which is the only time I defs go to McDonalds because I'm secretly addicted. I'd be all over that shrimp burger
I love the fact that in Japan and other asian countries, they have lots of limited time things. Yeah sure they're weird sometimes and sure some of them are going to taste awful, but you get a lot of great hits too, and its just the fact there is ALWAYS something different and unique to try
I was just in Japan in December. I don't eat fast food in America but had to try some in Japan out of curiosity. I noticed the hamburger patties in all of the burger places I went to with the exception of Carl's Jr. were different than the American versions. I couldn't figure it out, it tasted like hamburger but had the texture of a pork breakfast patty. Almost a little more chewy I guess. I was also surprised to see stuff like double big macs and double meat breakfast sandwiches which aren't available in the states (that I know of). The shrimp burger was pretty good!
I cannot really speak to how things are today but when I lived in Tokyo in the 80âs and 90âs the beef in the hamburgers at American fast food places tasted exactly the same as it did back home in the USA. I am guessing that they use Australian beef because itâs cheaper than either Japanese beef or beef from the USA but I do not know for sure. Either way this should not be a problem because Australian beef taste pretty much the same as American beef to me. Unfortunately the beef here in Thailand where I currently live does not taste at all that same however. I recently made a big pot of tomato beef stew here and it tasted very different from when I make it back home due to the fact that I used Thai beef rather than the more expensive Australian beef.
@@SLOBeachboy Interesting. I do think the CJ's was advertising Australian beef, which I couldn't tell the difference. It had been a years since I had eaten fast food in the states, so it's possible that my tastes had changed. :)
We in HK occasionally have shrimp burgers. It's like a seasonal limited thing.
I missed you guys so much Mrs Eats! I look forward to your videos every month ikuzooo
Thank you!!
That's funny about ordering smiles in Japan. There was a Nintendo game back in the mid 80s called River City Ransom (ăăŠăłăżăŠăłç±èĄç©èȘ in Japan) where you could go to restaurants and order a smile.
Good observations about the food differences. I howerver find that the service in Japan's fast food restaurants make the big difference. Japan service is ichiban
. They're fast, efficient, and polite!
I'd love it if you guys did an international food video, where you try various foods from around the globe. I'm in Scotland and would love to hear what you think of our food. Unfortunately, it'd be pretty expensive trying to get a hold of all that food đą
I love seeing all the different menu options, and the very helpful reviews!đđ
Wish you guys would make more videos! I love your videos!
Loved this video! Not just for the content but for your commentary! Keep up the excellent work!
Japan for number of options, taste AND visual pleasure
Mr Eats said his old roommate from America LOVE the shrimp burger at Japanese McDonalds! You should try when you come to Japan!
My wife dips chicken nuggets in Milkshakes or Wendyâs Frosty, and I thought that was weird but Bacon Shake sounds even worse hahahaha!
I'm glad to see you again, it's been awhile
Great video!
Welcome back!
oooh that shrimp burger looks really tasty.. i hope i can try it!
Nice testing and tasting ! IÂŽd like to try the Tsundere pizza, hehehe â„
the original mcdonald's menu had 11 items, 8 of which were drinks. the 3 food items were: hamburger, cheeseburger and fries
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS...ACTUALLY I LEARN ENGLISH FROM YOUR VIDEOS KEEP GONING
For the most part, the big American fast food chains are "last resort" food. Fortunately, there are smaller chains that compare much more favorably to Japanese options: Five Guys, Burgerville, Shake Shack, etc.
Except five guys sucks. Very overpriced for what you get. The other two I've never even heard of.
@@SonOfTheDawn515 Yeah, Five Guys costs too much, but the quality is miles above the big chains (a low bar, I realize...). Shake Shack is nationwide:started in NYC, but the one I've eaten at is in LA. Burgerville is Pacific Northwest.
Yeah anything local is better
@@DavidKAnderson I'm from the SE and have lived in Colorado, Arizona, and Kansas.
Smash burger belongs there too. These higher quality places are called fast casual
That matcha donut from starbucks makes me want to hop on a plane just for that lol
Being able to literally order a smile from a McDonalds employee has to be one of the creepiest thing in Japan.
lol How is that creepy? The employees already seem happy to deal with the public. I'm just missing the creepy part I guess.
@Subi Yeah, you may be right. I don't know, maybe some people find joy in work.
Smiling at the customer is how you get good tips. đđ”đž
It's just a joke isn't it?
It would really be interesting to see a video about vegan food in Japan. One of my worries about potentially traveling there someday is that I won't learn enough Japanese to find out about what's in my food or where I can go to eat. The food sounds delicious, but I am very passionate about my diet choices and wouldn't want to cause any nuisance with my lack of knowledge.
Vegan diet is not healthy. As an ex vegan now omnivore I beg you đąit's not going to help your nutrition in the long run.
@Mr1611 Well, I'm the healthiest I've ever been in my life now and eating a plant based diet made diabetes disappear for me. So, I think I'm good. No animals need to suffer for me to eat. Do whatever you want. I'm not trying to convert anyone or push anything. I'll do my thing and you do yours.
4:24 Back at ya! đ€
Wow đđ ! Thisâs my first time seeing a happy Japanese đđ. Youâre very beautiful person đđœđđœđđœđđœđđœ
went to japan recently and tried the Shrimp burger, and con confirm was amazing :)
Mrs. Eats, eating. Truth in advertising! ;)
Yes! I love to eat!
Thanks!
Hi Richard!! Thank you so much for your SUPER THANKS!! I'm sorry I missed this one! But thank you for your kind support!!
I love McDonald's here in the US but I would love a shrimp burger!!! Looks so good. I am jealous that we don't have those dishes here in our fast food places...
this video made me think of shunchan's video on what it was like working at japanese mcdonalds
I loved Carl's Jr opening in Tokyo! I'd eat there every week!
Thank you.
She's actually really cute doing food review đ
I definitely have to try these when I next visit Japan this year or next. Please consider putting the addresses of these locations in the information section so we can visit them!
You should be able to easily finding anything on Google maps these days just from knowing the names of these establishments. And if this were the old days before smart phones, an address would probably not do you much good anyway because addresses in Japan are not based on street numbers and names like they are in the USA (very few streets even have names). In fact, the address system can be so confusing that even most Japanese people would probably have difficulty finding a place by address alone without a smart phone.
P.S. I think back to your Costco video and want to check out the food court!
Great video
I LOVE the Ebi burger in Japan! It is my favorite!
You had me at me at shrimp burger
I wish we had the shrimp burger in the US. I don't eat meat very often but do eat seafood and fish, sadly most fast food places either have no seafood options, or only fish. Shrimp would be a nice change!
As far as fast-food chains in the US go, for burgers:
Wendy's>>>>>>>McDonald's>>>Burger King
For southwestern food / tacos+burritos:
Moe's >>>>>>>Chipotle >>>>>>>>>>Taco Bell
For chicken:
Chick-Fil-A and Popeye's are different, but both serve excellent food. Boston Market used to be a really excellent competitor to Popeye's, but they have fallen off hard in recent years and it's unfortunate.
For subs/sandwiches:
Jersey Mike's >>>>> Subway >>>> Quiznos
For pizza.... don't go with a chain. Go to a legitimate pizza place owned and ran by Italians / New Yorkers. The quality difference is immense. Though I guess if you have no other choice, Domino's is certainly much better than Pizza Hut.
There are also some burger chains that cover smaller areas but are WAY better than the Big 3 (McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's). In-N-Out is famous for its quality, and Fuddrucker's is extremely good and very very underrated.
in singapore, during chinese new year we get absolutely delicious curly fries đđ
Youâre enthusiasm is priceless mrs. Eats! đ
I had the whopper in Toyko. I found the texture of the beef patty tasted different. I liked the greasy in American patty. In Tokyo The Kobe hamburger was good. Not a normal item you see on fast food menu in America. I think the chain was called Lottery đ€·đ». It was a few years ago
I love that you use merengue music on your sponsorships. Itâs like taking a trip around the world đ am I in Japan? Or in the Caribbean?
Thank you! Let's taste the world!!
I love fun videos like this! Thank you ! Arigato!
Looks good
I had the Samuari mac on my last day in Osaka at the Kix airport. Other great places imo Freshness burger and Kua 'Aina by Rinkutown and joyful restaurant also by Rinkutown.
A good quality Neapolitan pizza still rules over all those fancy designer pizzas.
All a good pizza needs is a rich, slightly sweet tomato paste.
As an American food service worker, if Mrs. Eats herself were to request a smile, I would gladly oblige. If anyone else were to do so, they would receive a stare of disapproval and condemnation. Much like respect, if you don't earn courtesy or exude it, don't ask for it.
Another great video! Please do more of these types just like the Japanese Denny's. I feel full after watching this haha
Any country: "See our food treasures!" Japan: "Can I have this in AWESOME? Nah, it's ok, I make it by myself."
Hi, Mrs. Eats my son, and I will be traveling to Tokyo, Japan. Is there a place for all the nerdy guys and girls who would like to visit? I love your channel.
They also have Starbucks Reserve which is a higher end version here in the states.
They are!!!!!
Ugh bacon shake sounds so good... want
Whoever is narrating Your voice is very cute đđ
You two have a great channel, it's entertaining, sometimes funny, and informative. From Seattle.
that jalapena pizza seems so tasty, i think i'm getting hungry i need to order something.
I would never try an American restaurant while on a vacation in another country. But now I might need to try McDonalds in Japan.
I wish we had japanese Macdonald's in Canada; all we have is Tim Hortons and the Mcpoutine.
I can vouch for Shrimp Burger. It's my go-to burger. It's epic.
I think itâs more about the service and cleanliness. Thereâs no competitionâŠ..it is way better over seas in terms of service and cleanliness.
great food review... i need to try the shrimp burger from mcdonalds đ€€
Thank you! Yeah!! So good!
Starbucks buffet??
intriguing
Whoa I wanna order a smile too so cute!
Yes please try when you come to Japan!
6:54 RIP
7:23 This pizza does fit with a small demographic here in the states that certain men are literally obsessed with anime. There are even anime conventions, weebs with body pillows of anime girls, etc. Even my hero academia have what is called Shipping, which is in very excessive amounts.
I would love the tsundere pizza, because thats pretty much how I always have my pizza, loaded with chile. certainly not because I have a thing for tsundere... baka...
"You can order smiles in McDonald's!"
Finally me playing Yakuza 0 has prepared me for this and put to good use
The ordering a smile thing is interesting. If that was in America I can see a lot of people quiting on the spot.
YOU NEED to try deep fried Oreo, I almost wish I could send you one so you can react to it in a video. đ„ș
i never eat mcdonalds in australia but when in japan i will eat it occasionally
I love American burger joints but freshness burger is such a fantastic deal for such a high quality sando. Mos burger is also tasty. Shogun is a nice place also. If you're even in Utah valley go to any of the Chubby's locations. It's also hard to beat mexican fast food in Utah
This reminds me that once I tried to recreate McDonalds Japan's Chicken Tatsuta Sandwich. It was because it was being used in a promotion for Shin Ultraman and was as close as I could get to eating Ultraman food. What? I really like Ultraman!
I like to use a barbecue sauce brand called Bacchan's.
Look so impressive!
Shrimp burger?!?!?!?!
Bacon shakes are so mid 2000's America
I want Edamame at my MC Donalds too in Germy!!! D:
Why do we not have theese
oh, at least i know what i will eat today! :D
How you added the subtitles with word by word highlight effect in start of video?
Thanks
You may have a Starbucks addiction problem if you travel all the way to Tokyo to try it... ;) But yes! the Domino's burger pizza was so good!đ
Most of my friends quit fast food because average per person meal price is $13! Often the food is dry, overcooked, and slapped together without care.
