    I found I have osteoporosis at 42 by signing up for a screening when my doctors wouldn’t order a dexa scan. The endocrinologist said it’s not currently called osteoporosis if you’re not 65 or older it’s “low bone density for age.” It’s infuriating that it’s not considered the same when now my risk for fractures has started early. Where would it be if left undiagnosed for 23 more years?? I would have been kept on the very low estrogen birth control, and I probably* wouldn’t have started my weight lifting routine. Be your own advocate!!

    Dhea also plays a role in bone health. Everyone's DHEA goes down as we age. DHEA converts into estrogen and testosterone. I learned that many practitioners don't prescribe it. They are trained to prescribe testosterone instead.

    We can't get bone scans to diagnose osteoporosis so we can prevent it. I started jump rope and carrying a weighted backpack. I am post menopausal and too young for a bone scan. I hope that increasing vitamin d and exrrcise will help.

      I had my NP order it right at menopause ( age 50 ) and said I would pay for it. It came back osteopenia so the insurance paid for it at that point.

    How heavy or light can we go with the weighted vests? 20 lbs? 12 lbs? Would love to see a video going into a bit more detail. I’m going to look up vibratory training! What’s that?! 😺😸 Is it where you stand on those machines that shake 🫨 all the goodies? 😹

      Please be assured you have normal heart function. My mother died last month a day after taking her second Evenity injection. She felt ‘weird’ after taking the first one the month before. She was found to have 30 percent heart blockage last year but was cleared to take it. It’s a black box drug.

    My mum shattered her femur at 69. Some years later she broke her ankle. She’s 83 now & has fractures in her spine. She’s lost 6 inches in height & is in chronic pain.

  • @erikabusser

    I was diagnosed with osteopenia in my early 40’s when I was a runner who lifted heavily. I am 55 now and am TERRIFIED of the result I’m going to get with my DEXA that’s scheduled this week. I’m a tiny girl(4’11” 105lbs) which is already an issue in and of itself. After a blown ACL, my running ceased and I only walk, hike and lift moderately heavy weights. I also have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Is there anything else I can do?? I’m taking calcium, vitamins D&K, compounded estradiol, micronized progesterone, creatine HCL, HMB and collagen supplement. I’m trying to get about a gram of protein per pound of bodyweight as well. Am I missing anything?? I do not want to die of a hip fracture!!

      Dr. Eric Berg has a CZcams video that outlines foods and supplements to take, he suggests NOT taking calcium orally as it raises your blood serum level, which is not good, and that it doesn’t go to your bones.
      Just passing this along, you might find it helpful.

    • @aislinnmurphy8551
      @aislinnmurphy8551 Před 2 měsíci +1

      I think Eric Berg is a chiropractor, isn’t he? I don’t think he’s a very reliable source (in my opinion). Dr Haver has spoken about the type of calcium she recommends in other videos. Personally I think she’s a better source of information.

      You deserve a conversation with a menopause educated doctor. It shouldn't be a one size fits all kind of answer but one that considers your personal health benefits versus any health risks you might. have. We have a free Empowerment Guide that can help you advocate for yourself with your doctor. It also includes resources to find a menopause educated doctor including Telehealth options. Would you cover HRT/TRT for those with osteoporosis starting hormones after transition (postmenopausal more than 5 years)? You often talk about things as "menopausal transition" but no mention of after that. What is your opinion about how long to stay on it? If have low BMD, good to stay on it indefinitely, or should stop at some point, how to avoid bone loss if stop... Thanks!
