    This hardware news episode talks about Newegg's new GPU trade-in program -- we're looking forward to the 'used GPU lots' -- and its moves to try and revitalize sales in the GPU market. We'll also cover the 14700KF rumors and leaks of 6GHz clocks, the Ryzen 8000 mobile sighting, Counter-Strike 2's launch and NVIDIA's Reflex integration, Meta Quest 3, and more. Like NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang working at Denny's -- again.

      @Lagahan Před 8 měsíci +1

      I'd just like to add on the CS2 framepacing issue, its not just the huge frametime spikes but the delivery of frames in general thats an issue for a lot of us. Most of the time 1 frame may be 2ms then the next 4ms or 5ms then 2ms again and so on (gap widens significantly at lower framerates). Very difficult to be consistent in the game now as it just doesn't feel smooth in general, and pretty ironic that Nvidia actually mentions consistent frametime delivery as being important in their guide.

      @@Alexdiaz727 Reflex/Boost will not cause issues. It's a very simple thing that applies at a driver level. The issues are people running uncapped FPS and maxing out their GPU usage. Some parts of maps are more CPU bound, the GPU is then dropped from 97% usage down to 80% which will create an inconsistent feeling.

    There's a lot of people that are terrified of used items without going through a store. And terrified of selling on eBay or marketplace. So the idea is great, but some of those policies + knowing Newegg, there's gonna be some "yoink" going on and then an apology tour.

    • @opinali
      @opinali Před 8 měsíci

      And there's good reason to be terrified, fraud is rampant with expensive HW. The first PC gear I sold on eBay, I was robbed blind. I was an inexperienced seller and didn't notice the red flags, shipping address was a forwarding mail service, buyer claimed the product (an RX580 8GB) didn't work. eBay allowed them to keep my money without returning the item, I just got screwed.
      Even with a honest buyer I had difficulties. More recently I sold an RX 6800 XT. Mint condition, recently repasted / cleaned, thoroughly stress-tested, shipped in full original packaging. Buyer claimed that it was causing Windows to crash often, requested a return/refund. I authorized it but helped the buyer, they eventually made it work and accepted it. Turns out some buyers are just clueless with hardware, but a return means the seller gets shafted at minimum with the shipping costs.

    The Newegg offer changing stuff is basically identical to what CEX does here in the UK. They have grades of product from A (complete in box) to C (device only) and even if your item is complete in its original box and undamaged they'll always tell you it doesn't qualify as A grade because of some minor thing like stickers missing. So the quote you get from their own website is never what you actually end up with after sending it in or dropping it off at a store.

    You raise an excellent point. The fact that they open the possibility of haggling down the price AFTER they already have your card, without any apparent ability to back out and ask for the card back sounds like it could be a huge gotcha if abused by Newegg. That price table is already well below what one could expect on ebay prices (sold listings, not just listing prices), and anything below that would just be robbery. Sure, some consumers might try something cheeky by sending in a broken card, but there should be the option for the consumer to back out if they are about to get ripped off.

    I think the trade-in program from Newegg is a great program if implemented correctly. Selling a GPU through eBay costs time and money. You would have to spend the time creating the auction, packing the GPU, and waiting for the time when the GPU to arrive before even getting the money to which eBay and PayPal will take 25 percent cut. It would be nice to be able to have the selling of the new GPU done in the same process of selling off your old one.

    Maybe Jensen wanted to extend Nvidias culture beyond silicon and A.I? The Denny's story helps give some humanity to this technology company.
    When I picture Jensen sitting at that booth back in 1993 with his (2) friends developing an idea of Nvidia, it gives me a glimmer of hope of the American dream. His story is truly inspirational.
    Watched some video on CZcams a while ago that told the story of Jensen. He helped create a company that created GPUs but gaming wasn't really a thing yet that could leverage the power of what they created.
    They created a product in an industry that was just getting started. They literally had to develop the software that game devs could use to create games that could leverage the products Nvidia was developing.
    I equate that to a company making monitors for computers but computers didn't fully exist yet. So the monitor makers end up helping others make computers just so they could sell monitors.
    Your insider response was HILARIOUS! "I think at one point it was 12 - 15. With cup reconstruction it's more." I do not laugh often but that had me rolling.

    I think the Newegg Trade in is a potentially dangerous rip off.
    Not only are you getting poor value but depending on their own definition of rejection they can scrap your functional card, don't give you the trade in money and you have to pay full price for the new GPU you bought which you then might not actually be able to afford or at least not without the trade in loss.
    So you pay full price for a new GPU and lose your old one.
    I would personally avoid it and sell your old card on the used market, ideally in person, cash in hand.
