- This apartment started out as a small place, but someone added a 2nd floor, private deck and a really cool staircase which might make this the coolest NYC Apartment of all time hands down. The view from the roof is insane as you can see the Empire State Building with no obstruction. Would you rent this super cool new york city apartment? Check it out and let me know.

This is actually a Great Deal-------------for the landlord who collects the renter`s money.
They keep cutting up great spaces to make crappy cash grab apartments. That room with the water hookup was actually the kitchen , that's why they shoe horned in that tiny claustrophobic kitchen (saved by the windows)
The Architect who helped design this should switch careers maybe demolition since he destroyed this apartment.
Great advice and hilarious 😂
Yep Burt, you are so right. 🤣👍
yep bad interior design for sure
I bet it was a one bedroom loft apartment and they eliminated the living room, dining room, and most of the kitchen to make believe it's a 3 bedroom and triple the rent.
Musta been high.
Easily the worst priced & laid out unit we've seen yet! Great video Jordan
Agreed, this is the first of his videos in a long time when I watched and then rushed over to the comments to see what other people thought about the space 🤣
Only one bathroom?! Pass.
I didn't know this apt. was on the 6th floor until Cash said it. It's gonna be a workout if you carry groceries or luggage up those stairs. And it would be perfect if a half bath is in this apt. 3 bedrooms with only 1 bathroom seems a bit lacking.
If you can afford exorbitant rent like that you can have food delivered, groceries , what not..all delivery.
@@Adzes if you can afford exorbitant rent like that, why would you choose a place on the 6th floor without an elevator?
@@kunzilla Supply and demand. You think an apartment lasts long even with these prices? Nah. Within a day or two it's already being rented. People don't have time to wait for the apartment with an elevator in the building
you call them "bedrooms" !? LMFAO
not for those sizes
Yeah, you'll have to make sure you're really friendly with your roommates.
It’s almost hard to believe that the landlord put a kitchen in a hallway and then wants to charge $7,000 for the place. Between the super tight kitchen and one bathroom that doesn’t look safe, its not a shocker that this place isn’t rented.
7000 dollars... yeah it's NYC!!
It WILL rent out for that. It's not really a shocker lol people will pay anything just to live in NYC.
Not hard to believe at all...it's NYC, it'll rent for sure.
How on Earth did this pass a safety inspection? This is worse than some of the super tiny ones. I know it's all about money but I would feel guilty as an agent renting this one out.
No way can the stacking washer and dryer partially blocking the bathroom door way be code compliant. but, what do I know. I'm not in New York state. I'm in Maryland and I know that would not pass building code nor fire code.
I love landlords that are like “this is New York City, you don’t need a living area, you should be out partying when you’re not at work or asleep!“ 😱🤦♀️
And yeah there’s more of a story there than it appears. None of these apartments were originally built to have no living area. Everything’s been moved around to cram as much into this little space and charge maximum rent for it.
Correct. I'd love to see the original floor plan and layout. It was probably a two bedroom tops.
I know the area pretty well, Forbidden planet is one of my fav comic book shops in NY (alongside Midtown Comics), it’s a pretty nice neighborhood but that apartment is….well, 3 bedrooms, one toilet, cramped spaces, all for $7250? 😆🙄 I know it’s NY, but come on people, that’s insane.
Love your content, you really do these landlords a good service, hope they’re paying you what you deserve (half of those $7000! Haha). Cheers!
I think the same thing. I mean, 7250 is like a 1.5M mortgage. It's crazy.
If anything , the _tenants_ are paying the broker fee.
BTW, the broker fee is 15% of the yearly rent.
My mind is always blown by how expensive such small little apartments are in NYC. The payment on this one was almost 8x my house payment for 2 stories, 3/3, with acreage. Granted I’m in rural Georgia so it’s like a different world lol
Exactly. It is 7x my house payment for 3 stories, 3/1.5 and 2 car garage plus yard in Rochester New York. Even in New York, the big apple is a different world.
It's all about location and demand for it. An awful lot of people want to live in the East Village.
Rural Georgia may be scarier
Bleh Georgia. A very poor state. Not to mention it's a blue state. Gross.
Awesome 😊 whenever I visit GA I cry when it's time to return home
I would make the common area the room that has deck access. The living room could be the eating area, then the 2 bedrooms. It would be impossible to get real bedroom furniture up those stairs and through that tiny door.
Yes I agree.
Was thinking the same 👍
Fits like a glove! Once you've hiked up there, you don't wanna have to go out again.
That’s why you buy furniture that you build. A lot of modern furniture is sold in pieces.
A walk up with a fancy staircase for $7250 a month!!!!! A RIP OFF FOR THAT TINY HOVEL!!! RIDICULOUS AS USUAL!!!
That’s so dam expensive for a three bedroom apartment like that and even if you split it three ways, still costs more than my mortgage payment lol!
I live in NYC & if I didn’t have rent stabilized housing I don’t know how I would afford to live in this city. I have 2 bdrms, living room & bathroom paying $2,200/ monthly. It’s in a pretty decent neighborhood in Brooklyn. Have a Great Weekend & Happy 4th of July Cash & to everyone else❤️!!!
The apartments maybe getting worse but your content is always excellent .
You took the words.....
Agreed! No way in the world would I rent that, and I've had some pretty awful apartments.
Agree with this statement. Screw this amount a month. Now a days in NY none can live by themselves you need like 5 people to two bedrooms
He can only present what he’s given by rental agencies.
Use the room with roof access as your living room. Put a desk by the front door or a chair and floor lamp for reading nook. Or armoire for storage.
The "water access" in that closet is so you can shut the water off in the bathroom if you need to (plumbing emergency, etc.)
Again I ask, are there really people in NYC foolish enough to rent these go cart apartments at these ridiculous prices? Sheesh!
Yes. This will be taken quickly by three grad students or graduates. They will spend little to no time in the apartment given where it is and everything to do. NYC is NOT for everyone.
@@richardbarth918 you’re so right
Yes!! Some people will offer more $$ to beat others
Out of towners that have just moved here, sure
@@mariee.5912 👍
I sometimes wander how these owners obtained licenses for occupancy. To me that one is a fire hazard. Another opinion how does tenants get furniture into these locations.
They probably drop the furniture in thru a window from a helicopter or maybe thru a skylight which they would have to create by first dropping a piano thru the roof. That sounds about right.
You can't plant me in your penthouse I'm going back to my plow hunting the old owl in the woods, thank you Mr Dwight.
NEXT!!
Everything from Ikea - assemble it yourself. Inflatable mattress.
@@Bobrogers99 That’s 2 / 3 flights of steps . In old days we used pulleys . But there is no room in that location for a pulley . IKEA , I only buy USA .
Good point about the fire hazard. I've heard that the highest a firetruck ladder goes is five stories and I believe the apartment here is on the sixth floor. Not for me. I don't want to live higher than the second or third floor.
@@andrewbrendan1579 You're so right. The folks on the 43rd floor will have a great view......... until the inferno begins.
Omg… I thought apartments were expensive where I lived in England, but NY takes the cake 😆
So the area is cool but on that same block to have poor people paying like $250 in rent.
In an idéal world, I would like the landlord to premsent this appart. himself, while Cash is filming. ....and to see how he describe this "Marvolous and spacious appart in the heat of the city?!!!!!😄
Cash: We can make this work, just get a triangle shaped bed.
Also Cash:There's a great view out this window although there's nothing to look at.
😁
Not to mention the “decent hallway” outside the apartment 😂
@@maureenb.8517 Good one Maureen! 😁 That one too, definitely.
I love Cash's videos but he should be hosting the Tonight Show.
I like what Don Rickles said when asked if he watched Fallon. He said, "No I don't really care for ping pong."
I could see Jordan hosting with Nick Johnson as his side kick. To provide some goofy songs when playing stump the band. Am I right?
Yes...when he said triangle shaped bed I laughed 😅
@@gina9684 Who needs a bid? Just grab a blanket and pillow and sleep on the floor in a corner. How much room does a person needs anyway when they asleep? Oh yeah, don't forget your teddy bear.
The only viable way I could say this layout working is you just make the upstairs room the common area with the TV and couch while keeping “the common area” downstairs as the kitchen but for that price forget it.
Last week we tried to order from that Pizzeria. Their website lets you order for pick up at 12pm. We paid walked over all excited for our work party only to be told they open at 5pm. What a let down!
okay? no one cares
@@DanRustle 14 people do!
Aaaah sorry to hear. I hope you all managed to have a good day anyway.
How does anybody afford these places? But I do enjoy looking round with you. Thankyou.
great videos each time, and I always find they distract me from the world gone mad! Thank you.
With the average salary at about $70k, who can really afford this without roommates? (i.e. a single family)
Turn the bedroom with roof access into an office/hobby room and then it is still part of the "living space" and not awkward to walk through to get to the deck. That being said I always love how you say a queen bed will fit in the tiny rooms in all of these places LOL.....Yeah, the bed and nothing else so I guess it is accurate.... :)
$7,250 a month? 🤣
6:50 Thats all the cabinets for a 3 bedroom?
7:51 Those water taps means they chopped up the apartment to make it 3 rooms.
Good luck to everyone still on that "i must live in Manhattan to impress my friends" hype train 🤣
Terrible design and the price?! Get a life. NYC is not that great. The landlords are price gouges.
i love how quirky and unique apartments are in NYC. i live in glasgow scotland and they are cookie cutter here
But can you afford it here in NYC??
@@tonylarussa4046 irrelevant, im not moving countries
@Padraig Different world from what the commoners can afford? :)
@Padraig yea old tenements,.. all the same layout not quirky or unique
Yeah, that’s what I like about city apartments. All of them are kinda unique because they have been retrofitted into old buildings.
So each roommate would have to pay 2,500 give or take, with just one bathroom? No thanks.
The entertainment value of this channel is priceless...so therefore I love these crappy overpriced apartments lol
Makes San Francisco look affordable!
I’m sorry, this tiny place for 7k?!?!I don’t care where it’s located, that’s just ridiculous. Three bedrooms with ONE bath……at THAT price? That’s a big NOPE. Someone took a 1 BR and made it a 3 BR. Greedy.
Hope you and the Fam have a great 4th Cash!!! Thanks for the video.
You give such a warm feeling of home through your videos! Thank you for making my day
Welcome home cash! Love to see you tour NYC apartments!
Give me a break that is not worth 7000.00 a month, what a rip off.
"Can't cook with company in here....unless its a brand new relationship!" You are so good at what you do, Cash! I just love your videos!
This video is awesome!!! Your recording is excellent!! Oh yeah, the apt is interesting too. Overpriced and crazy layout.
A sixth floor walk-up? Another chop job? Only one bathroom? This time the common area was an afterthought. For over seven grand? No thanks!
Literally 6 times my mortgage payment. What jobs do people have to afford these places? I know people have roommates, but still…
I've been asking that for months. I simply cannot understand wtf kind of jobs ppl have to make that kind of money and if they make that kind of money, why they would live there. It's some kind of mass mind f-ck if you ask me. Something in the water perhaps...
Your music is always on point
Finally, a bookstore! I've been waiting forever to see one.
And that bookstore has been in NYC for almost 100 years!
@@juliegoldman411 I wonder if they have any of the original books.
@@653j521 could be....I know a preservation society wanted to Landmark the building, but the owners daughter did not wish to incur the expenses. Don't know the resolution.??. The Strand has been owned by the same family since the late 1920 s.
Hello. The sixth floor and no elevator for $7250.00, nope.
Hmmm ... SIXTH floor walk-up? (Plus an extra set of steep, narrow stairs to get to the "bedroom" that has access to what you are calling the "deck"?)
My niece's Yorkville apartment had the same kind of sliding glass door "deck" access arrangement but, for safety, she had to lock herself in at night with an iron security gate. Even that wasn't enough to keep out the burglars.
All of this for only $7,250? No, thanks.
“Tight” doesn’t even begin to describe this place! It’s only saving grace is that outside area.
Welcome to NYC - $7000 apartment, a bagel, graffiti and that's it!
You are back!
Wowzers! I'm a location>square footage kind of gal, but that took my breath away. I liked everything but the price!
the way you CHURN out these videos
What an adorable place and I love the outdoor area. Wonder what these apartments looked like back in the day. Far too much rent $ now.
Holy shit! You could buy a massive house somewhere else in the country and fly to NYC once a week for a whole year and still save money! Plus that place is TINY!
The water valves let you do plumbing in the bathroom without having to shut off water to the entire building. Not that unusual actually, especially in older OR chopped up apartments.
So funny to see you jump back into the apartment through a window!
I love to see you getting "back in the New York groove", man!
Absolutely insane price for an apartment like that
Love the neighborhood and the apartment. I knew what Forbidden Planet is before you because I am a big Nerd. It was interesting to me when you walked past Whole Foods because I work for them. If the apartment was more affordable I would transfer to that Whole Foods and live there. Despite the space and the rent I did like the apartment. It’s quirky in a good way. Great video.
Are NYC salaries commensurate with these high rents??
@@thesongbird2383 I was wondering that too.
I've literally given up on trying to find a decent affordable apartment in NY, it's just impossible. Landlords have gone insane with greed.
Everything has gone up. Not justifying that rent though. It's too much even for Union Square.
Are NYC salaries commensurate with the high rents??
@@thesongbird2383 NYC rent prices went parabolic as the pandemic restrictions eased compared to any increase in salary or wages that one might've been lucky enough to obtain, that is, from the private sector.
The most a company, by law, is required to pay an employee is $15 an hour in NYC. That was an increase in 2019. According to Nerd Wallet, to maintain a decent standard of living in NYC, you'll need a "salary", not wages, of around $100,000 a year. Landlords and real estate agents likely will no longer even entertain you if you show them your wages... Overtime isn't consistent.
Love the Strand!!!
Thanks , Cash .
NYC never ceases to amaze me with the strange configurations of older apartments! Prime area equals high rent but I'd expect a second bathroom or shower room for that money. Greedy landlords at it again! Would work much better as a two bedroom by making the upper bedroom a sitting room. Gaining access to the deck would then not be a problem as I certainly would not want all and sundry walking through my room and out of the window! Yes window, it's not a door which makes me think that the deck is not legal. It's also on the 6th floor so I'd never get there! C'est la vie Cash!
The joys of a free market. With so many people want to live in NYC they can get away with this crap.
@@wwaxwork you are so right. Its the same in London!
This is Gonna B so Good CJ🔥🔥🔥👍….
For that price you could rent an entire house in a really high end neighborhood where I live.
I live in a luxury building at South Lake Shore and Hawthorne in Chicago.
My apartment is 1050sqf with three bedrooms 2 1/2 bath a living room with floor to ceiling windows giving a unobstructed view of Lake Michigan a decent sized kitchen and a dining area.
I also have a parking space in the garage.
My building has a gym and a swimming pool.
I don't pay anywhere near that in rent.
My building also has a door man.
Wow..sounds nice😊
As a French fry expert, I would be in Heaven in that neighborhood 🍟🍟🍟
Wow! You just made my day! I used to go to forbidden planet as a kid in the 90s They have 2 floors of awesomeness!!
A bookstore, yes, yes!!!
I wanna go to that bookstore!
I'd like to see who really rents these apartments and what they do with them. I just keep thinking how often I'd be banging my elbows and hips on these tiny quarters.
9.1 from the Pres is huge. Go there to eat.
WOW the rents always amaze me in the worse way, but I guess that's NYC
Love your videos, Cash. They keep me current with popular delusions and madness of crowds.
Cute place! That upstairs room c a deck saves it. But the price! I know it's the location..but is there gold laced into the paint in that place? Wow!
Cash, Yess, I call first dibs on the bedroom downstairs, Becuz my “triangle”shape bed will def fit! 🔺🛌!
🤣
Besides the outside space, that'd be super tight for roommates. Maybe you're a power couple and use one of the bedrooms (upstairs) for the living room. Hopefully that couple is saving for a down payment on a house. Great content as always!
I had to rewind to make sure you said 3-bedroom 1-bath for $7250. Whoa! And the layout....no honey.
That last bedroom with the water taps in the closet was obviously designed to have a waterbed.
7,250 a month for a walk--up ?? Very entertaining video but I`ll pass on the very expensive apartment.
For the price of one months rent, I can pay my mortgage and assessments for almost a year. That rent is crazy for what you get. But that is NYC. I’ll just visit.
I remember how impressed my son and his friends were with the $1 pizza. He was in high school then.
Strand book store! How I loved going there.
OMG.....so tiny. Wow!!
Did you not see how you were tearing that book up putting it back? Disrespectful
Watching your vids has made me realize I miss my memories of living in NYC but don't want to live there again. Makes me kind of sad...
I feel like we saw this one already. Are they blending and becoming all the same? OH nooooo.
Lol. Some of them are very similar including the extremely high prices. 💰💰💰
With 18 miles of 📚 Who needs and apartment lol.I would just move in.😄😁. Another great video cash.
Those were water supply shut offs in the closet at the end. Just for future. Love the vids!
good one
Nice 😀
Are people truly happy living in these tight apartments? I would be bumping into everything
Is common space a new synonym for a hallway? Asking for a friend. Love Cash either way :)
If you put the bed in that corner, you're covering the heat radiator.
thanks
I wish one you could show something affordable where one person could live in and not have to have 4 roommates in order to afford.
You can close the door! Wow!
Cool apartment! The water access is the closet in that last room? I think that was an access point to shut the water off in the bathroom. You know, the kid sticks their ball/truck/dolly in the toilet so it can go to the beach and it clogs the toilet- the kid flushes and water is all over the floor and keeps pumping out and the realtor on the floor below you is going to kill you then RUN (don’t walk!) to that closet and turn the water off as your life is flashing before your eyes. You will become familiar with these scenarios in another year. In the meantime, give your wife an extra kiss when you get home for watching Violet like A HAWK when you are working. So says a woman who raised her kids on her own. The access was to shut the water off in the bathroom.
Happy Fourth, Cash!
Why do I love your videos? I know not the answer to that question. I don't even live in NYC! But love them I do, so I watch on and (surprise) get nothing accomplished. Oh well, there are worse sins in life.
How many times do you have to go up and down those stairs to get one sequence of you coming down the stairs? Do you use more than one camera?
Microscopic living room and teeny tiny kitchen plus six flights of stairs? For over $7000 a month? Tell the landlord to put down the crack pipe. That's straight up insanity going on there!!
Ah...to live by Strand! I couldn't afford such a thing because I would be too likely to spend by rent money on books.
I’ve been binge watching these videos since I stumbled across them and this one was so outrageous that it moved me to comment. Everything is ridiculous! I didn’t see anything about the apartment that was worth the rent being asked for it. Not one single thing. Cash is awesome as always, thank goodness.
Cool apartment. I like it. High price though. Enjoyed.
Cash $7,200 is insane for this small space. I get it that it's peak market. Wow, it seems way too expensive. I actually don't mind the layout. I'd want the bedroom with the patio!! 🙂
But what's driving the "peaked" market if they're chopping up apartments to get more money, Manhattan is mostly dead now (comparatively) and dangerous and people are leaving it in droves? It doesn't add up.
I'm starting to think it's just a marketing ploy
@@MissCane9 Maybe it isn't true people are leaving in droves at this point in the pandemic, it was never safe, and it is comparatively lively if you look at the past two years. People will watch a good scary story.
@@MissCane9 Yes with Manhattan not nearly as busy as it was pre-pandemic how can the rental market for apartment suites be at peak market - and so overly expensive? Great point C.M. I didn't even zoom on to that thinking!! In a slower market and with many areas still slow in the city - what justifies such a high price for rentals?
