    That's a one-bedroom for $2800. The window bars are a death trap in a fire. The basement is a party space for rodents and a flood risk. Some out-of-towner will rent it. New Yorkers know better.

    That is NOT a legal 2 bedroom apartment. You can't call the basement a bedroom because it has no windows. Even tho there is a door there's still no real egress that I could see. & the bars on the windows I don't think meet fire code since they're bolted into the wall. Yes the kitchen isn't terrible (even tho there's no sink sprayer) & actually has more cabinets & counter space than some of the higher priced places we've seen. Still I'd give it a pass

    • @653j521

    • @MamaCarola1
      @MamaCarola1 Před 2 lety +2

      @@653j521 the way in understanding the requirements I think the answer is no since it is becoming a habitable space of used as a living room or family room. It will still need a window (which is impossible since it's completely underground) or another way out. Even tho there's a door that leads into a hallway it doesn't look like there's any way out of the building

      I think someone decided to go together and have a separate apt, and used that door downstairs to go in and out. So, they kept that upstairs door locked. Not sure what they would do for a shower though, unless they just used one at the gym when they went to work out. All kinds of possibilities. You can always eat out when you are saving a lot of money, which they probably were. I'd do it.

    • @llggomezz
      @llggomezz Před 2 lety

      The landlord knew what he or she was doing. Since there are no doors for a second bedroom, it should not be listed as a 2 bedroom. They are getting away with using the basement as part of the apartment because there are 2 ways to enter and exit- even though there are no egress windows. That is also why there is only a toilet and a sink. If there was a shower or a kitchen sink or a stove, the basement would not pass inspection. My landlord has the same set up in one of his rental homes. The bedrooms are on the main floor and there is a space in the basement with a toilet and sink that is the "living room". It's also because this was part of the home for more than 40 years. Inspectors have been in that apartment and he has not been fined. I do not know the current rules. I believe they may have changed.

      I had a basement apartment and I had a deadbolt lock on it the same way because when they would go out somewhere day or night they would forget to lock their door, and if someone would ever break in upstairs I didn't want them to have access to coming downstairs where I lived. Another issue was if friends with little kids would stop over to visit upstairs, the little kids would open the doors and come downstairs. It much better to just put a lock on the inside of the door, then there are no hassles

But it has that enormous downstairs room that might be used for a home business, and seeing those locks on the connecting door, that might have been its previous use. The price is decent on this place. There are definitely options. The baths and kitchen are roomy and even though the upstairs living area is small you may want to use that for a kitchen table and office near the window. Then paint the basement a nice neutral color as the white walls are pretty stark. Some nice furniture and big screen tv and possibly second bedroom. Someone probably had a roommate and they wanted their privacy. Nothing creepy about that. Close to the train and shopping. Not bad. 👍😊

      We have the same thing going on out here in California. According to our fire code laws, there are only supposed to be so many people per square feet. But with illegals crowding in, 4-5 families in a 1000 SQ ft house, landlords are just ignoring it. It's mostly illegals that own the houses and code enforcement doesn't give a shit. Courts won't do shit either. Well, what should we expect from a state that just legalized infanticide up to a year old. Smh.

    These apartments are still for rent because of the outrages amounts of rent these landlords are asking for. Also alot of them have been cutting large bedrooms into two bedrooms. Smh

    Hi Cash! Watching from the Philippines. I'm a future USA-RN, planning to move to NYC someday, after I graduate college, probably start my nursing career at NYC.
    I don't think that's a 2 bedroom apartment, but I kinda like it. If ever I move to Newyork, this apartment is enough for me, though I wouldn't call it a 2 bedroom. The price is good enough, but it's not a 2 bedroom, so it's kinda, pricey.
    Chao. 👋🏻

      Not even a couple? Come on. Basement is a good hang out space. Put in an entertainment system or a ping pong table or a bar, or all of the above. And the couple could get away from each other if they had a fight, or they could have friends over. How many hours are most NYC couples at home, anyway? It seems as if they work long hours, eat out a lot, enjoy night life and running/jogging/walking/biking. Plenty of room.

    I bet either the basement was a office or someone rented that out, thus the locks. For $1425 a person, that's not bad if you turn the basement into a movie room/office. Get the landlord to put in some carpet there and a dishwasher. Great video as always Cash!
