There are up to 16 simultaneous guitar tracks here and I chose a few takes to show!
This video was made by starting removing the other instruments from the remastered instrumental version of Soma using "Drums Extractor" for iPhone then re-recording the music myself. A few sound effects bleed through but otherwise I re-created the rest of it. I hope you like it!
Original song is Soma by The Smashing Pumpkins off of Siamese Dream

Lyrics:
Nothing left to say
And all I’ve left to do
Is run away from you
And she led me on, down
With secrets I can’t keep
Close your eyes and sleep
Don’t wait up for me
Hush now, don’t you speak
To me
Wrapped my hurt in you
And took my shelter in that pain
The opiate of blame
Is your broken heart, heart, your heart
So I’m all by myself
As I’ve always felt
And I’ll betray my tears
To anyone caught
In our ruse of fools
One last kiss for me, yeah
One last kiss good night
Didn’t want to lose you once again
Didn’t want to be your friend
Fulfilled a promise made of tin
And crawled back to you
I’m all by myself
(Close your eyes and sleep)
As I’ve always felt
(Don't wait up for me)
I’ll betray myself
(Hush now, don't you speak)
To anyone, lost, anyone but you
So let the sadness come again
On that you can depend on me, yeah
Until the bitter, bitter end of the world, yeah
When god sleeps in bliss - Hudba
Thanks for watching! What song is next?
That was epic!!!!
@@cocajazz if it's not the next one, it's on the short list. I love that song.
Mayonaise could be your next choice. Or Thirty Three
Please do Mayonnaise next!
Starla?
As a big Pumpkin head who's searched for these tones for ages (and have even been in the studio with these dudes), this is the most accurate setup of tones I've ever heard. Bravo.
Appreciated! Would love to hear how you ended up in the studio with them!
Holy forking shirt, you nailed the solo.. amazing tone
Listened to more of your stuff today... When I was in my teens I made it my mission to learn SD and MC guitar parts, but man you kill it! Also I couldn't comment on the Quiet w/ vocals video but it was really good too, keep singing mate
Had to watch you channel your inner CORGAN a few times now. It's really special. Never seen anyone nail soma like that
hahah, still watching this and getting inspired, 3yrs later! (also remembering the basement sessions so many years ago. fond memories!)
Then play some drums when I get back home! I would love to do some of these covers with real drums! You've got the chops! Best damn drummer I know!
Wow! This needs more views. Awesome job overdubbing all the separate guitar parts. LOL at the “Channeling Inner Corgan” counter!
Song makes me fly awayyy
This is the greatest thing I've ever seen.
Haven't commented "this" yet, despite leaving at least ½ dozen comments on your channel now... Buti simply CANNOT BELIEVE or actually im amazed more haven't...
How you so perfecly emulate all the guitar tones and effects on the songs you cover .
Like, Billy practically spells it out with all the intel about what equipment and gear and pedals he's used so I'm surprised not to see more pumpkinheads going down the 'pitch-perfect route' here that you have been.
Very admirable
Superbly commendable
And if ever in new york, PLEASE let me at least buy you a beer.
I don't smoke weed, but if that's what youre into or whatever, you know, let me smoke you up/get you some pot or whatever it is you'd enjoy.
I'm pretty sure these are the best SP covers ive ever heard (seen) and I've seen/heard A LOT over the years
Holy wow. My favorite Pumpkins song, and you did it wonderfully. Thanks for that!
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it 👍
wow. i never even tried to attempt to play this song in full. and you did the solo. gotta listen to this album again. it's one of my favourite records of all time. thank you for the tone tips.
It's awesome to watch these because they are so accurate from a playing and tone perspective!
Even Mr. Bean is on board with this.

Wow! Amazing, amazing cover! This should have thousands of likes. Well done
My favorit song of all time!
Hot damn. I really love what you're doing. You have captured the essence of the Pumpkins.
Thank you!
Man you really showed how amazing this song is with all the guitar parts separate. Such a amazing intro in this song before the big solo rips in!
Thank you!
Excellent performance! My favorite song on the SD album
Thank you very much 👍
Freaking gorgeous, totally nailed the tone (no surprise here 😀) and the playing. Your solo literally made me fly away, just like the original one.
Another cover sometime soon pretty please? I'm borrowing a lot of subtleties from your videos (I play in a SP cover band), please keep them coming
I am just sitting here nodding my head back and forth, awesome!
Nailed it
awesome! loved it!
Awesome!
I have problems lining up just two guitar tracks. Respect. I'm sure vocalists out there will appreciate this to have to play around with.
Hell Yeah Dude Amazing!
Awesome. One of the best covers I've watched/listen to. Well done sir.
phenomenal job man, what a perfect cover
incredible
Amazing!
Thank you!
Awesome! Love it! I like how you did the first quiet solo an octave up it cuts through the rhythm nicely.
Great job!! Love this!!
Thanks!
Ey man!! Awesome job!!
Thanks!
Well done again!
Thank you 🙏
I love it, they always describe this album as a wall of layers, and you did just that at the end
A sonic orchestra! Great job!
amazing man! you nailed the solo
Thanks!
Great stuff here! I can't stop watching this one! Impressive!!
Wow! Wonderful job. I got chills and almost tears in my eyes, not common seeing other SP covers. A lot lot of work in here. Chapeau ;)
so fucking good to listen, congratulations!
Wow yea yea, rather excellent!
🙏my favorite song of my favorite album. Awesone Job.
Thank you!
This is just perfect🤘
Is that a big muff into jcm800?
I used a Marshall Origin for this cover. Its a GREAT substitute for a JCM 800 style clean amp.
I just uploaded a video that shows the difference between the two here
czcams.com/video/S-WyWh_EqZg/video.html
Perfect
Thank you!
Wow... amazing. Completely transfixed on the “inner Corgan” solo. Loved it
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Your editing skills are excellent. You overlaid this very well.
Thanks! Overlaid?
Eddie Clark layered the parts on top of each other well.
Alex Latta ah thank you 🙏I used logic to mix it. The goal was to have my guitar sound as close to the Siamese Dream sounds as possible 👍
Hell Yes! This is what happens when you can't get any friends to come over and jam. hahahhahaaha Man you nailed it! I just LOVE this!!!! My man!
SLUNK
🔥
Standing ovation!
You fucking nailed this. Good fucking job
The attention to detail on tone and effects on this video is awesome - great job :) Would you be able to share the settings your using for the Eventide for the clean intro part? I'm trying to recreate with a 4 voice multi tap delay with chorus modulation but struggling to get it to sound right!
I think it's time for me to demo that. It's one of the most common requests on this channel and I owe everyone a video. 👍
@@EddieClark That would be fantastic! I’ve learnt some much from the other videos you did on recreating the Pumpkins sound.
Which H9 preset did you use for the verse? Siamese Dream is my favorite record these videos are very useful and well structured, you are the best
Thanks! I have a video coming out later today that will answer this question in full 👍
😍🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽
Incredible man! I have to know how your got that lead tone!
I'm working on a video right now to show how I record the Siamese Dream sound
Thanks for watching 👍

God that tone is so perfect. I've been trying to capture it, but unfortunately, I dont have enough (or the right) equipment.
Also, could you please do a cover of Jellybelly if you haven't already?
Thank you! Appreciated!
Jellybelly is on my list of must covers. I'm not really sure why I haven't done it yet. I play it every time i touch a guitar in dropped D 👍👍
Excellent cover! What year is your Strat? It Looks Great! Love the era correct Lase Sensors!
Thank you! 🙏
That’s a 2019 American Professional with the current generation of red/silver/blue lace sensors. I’ve had both original 90’s sensors and the current ones and the sound identical 👍
Dude.
You're fucking rad.
That's all.
Thanks dude 👊
Dude this is so amazing especially the solo! I’m gonna be that guy… do you remember your guitar practice routine!? I’ve been trying to learn this solo a while and can’t get my fingers to move fast enough 😂
Thanks! I play songs slow first. Soma I played at 75% speed until it felt easy, then I moved on to 85%. Do that until you can play it at 110% speed. Also, when I’m learning something harder, I try to practice it for at least an hour a day. Preferably two.
@@EddieClarkwould love to see a break down tutorial of that solo. A lot of people have tried and failed at attempting (IMHO) the greatest solo ever written. Would love to see what you can come up with. Love the tone and all the hard work you do!
fucking blown away...
Thank you!
love it,you have the pedals settings?
Thanks! I go through the settings in this video: czcams.com/video/dp5K8u3EsKA/video.html
I use a Marshall Origin 20 on Soma instead of the 20 watt 800 but I use the same settings between them.
If that video doesn't cover something you're wondering about, let me know 👍👍
what is your process for learning all the different parts of such complex songs?
I listen to the left and right separately. If the parts are too fast, I slow down the playback so I can hear which notes are being played. Then I fill in the blanks by watching any live videos of them playing.
Thanks for watching!
more
What post processing did you do for the distortion rhythm part? I've been layering a bunch of tracks from a big muff pi (with different tonal sweet spots) and it just sounds off... cheers!
Not much really. If the core sound is right, I just shelf the highs and lows. My earlier videos I was scooping some mids but that was more because of the 10" speakers I was using.
Thanks for watching!
@@EddieClark thanks so much! love your content by the way
Woah I found this way too late!!! Do you mind if I record some vocals to some of these?
Go for it! Just please link back to this video!
Can you do a cover of snail
How were you utilizing the H9? Was that for the delays?
The harmonized delays in the intro, i mean, not the solo.
You nailed it. It was for the clean delays. The H9 effects I used are the “Resonator” and “Band Delays”
Is the dist+ a good substitute for the dist2? For this song specifically I mean
It's not bad. It's what I used. That said, if you don't own either a Dist+ or a vintage Distortion II and the Soma lead sound is your goal, get the Made by Mike Dist II instead. There's not really a big price difference between the MXR Dist+ and the Made by Mike Dist II.
Hey thanks man! You’re doing gods work haha
fucking hell
Effects used in solo?
Guitar -> Phase 90 -> MXR Distortion + -> Reissue OpAmp Big Muff Pi -> MXR Carbon Copy with the mix knob set at 11 o’clock -> Marshall Origin 20
Eddie Clark what phase 90 setting works good for that one?
Has @billycorgan seen this?
