Hmmmm...not sure you would have been covered by insurance if you had had an accident as you weren't the intended loan drivers from the repair shop. You could've ended up in a bit of a fix.

@@Blackfatrat Volvos were and are complex, too. The early cars like 240s weren't too bad, but anything like an S60 or S80 is crazily complex to work on, same with the SUVs and wagons of the late 90s and 2000s. They're still turbocharged usually AWD European cars with their idiosyncrasies, but sharing some parts and design from Ford did help some things.

After a new battery, alternator, and starter it turned out to be a fuse that had been switched off. Thank God I had my 1996 Honda Odyssey to get me and the kids around, that beast always starts everytime and it is much easier for my husband to work on. The Cadillac we always have to take it to the mechanic. Like I said too many bells and whistles are just too much.

We have several of those CLA's in our Shenzhen apartment parking garage, but they, as well as similar BMW and Audi models, are now been replaced by the Tesla Model 3's. Since the last April when we moved here I have collected over 50 Tesla license plates, not all of the owners still live here, maybe 30 or so. What is a bit surprising is most of the Tesla drivers are women ( but there are some race-head guys too). I have asked around why they bought Teslas and one of the common reasons has been "My xxx had too many buttons. I just need a simple car I don't need to think about, and this is very fast too which is nice." Suddenly the German luxyry brands don't mean that much anymore, all of them are made in China too. There are now Xpeng, BYD, GAC and next year NIO ET7 sedan that will bring even more competition from the EVs.

So I bought a 2017 BMW M240i for just a little bit more - way better car! It shows in the reviews too. So I would add my agreement with you that it is worth spending a bit more to get a much better car. The CLA isn't a bad car but a bit underwhelming for a Mercedes.

Mercedes has made some really poor choices. This is good for business, but reputation wise not so much.

It's just like a Toyota, besides the reliability, maintenance cost and resale value.

You said it wont last long as a Toyota. Tou might be right, but due to the extensive tech, not the engine. As cars get older the tech causes issues but lots is 'locked in' to the manufacturer. When the car is 10yrs old the price they charge for a new steering switch cluster will more than the cars value.

For the same price you can get a Lexus or Acura And it’ll last probably a decade longer then this car and the repairs on the Lexus and Acura will be much much cheaper!
