It wasn't even like that in the '80's and '90's. No idea when it started, but, it was definitely after that. And, I'm not so sure it was LeBron fans who started the Jordan's-competition-was-weak talk. If anything, I think it was the other way 'round. Jordan fans and fanboys just straight-up have a problem with James and are always moving the goalposts whenever he gains ground in "the debate". They beat the 3rd, 2nd and 1st team in the West by wins which was also by the league in general and after on, they swept the 1st seed of the East. It literally doesn’t get better than that. Not to mention Hakeem’s individual challanges. Karl Malone in round 1. He wasn’t guarded by him but he did guard Barkley a lot in that 2nd round and it came to the point where Barkley was not comfortable going to the paint which is his whole scoring. He humiliated MVP David Robinson 1 on 1 and after on, he battled with Shaq and was clearly the best player on that court.

Eventhough Tim Duncan was still a great player in that Finals but anyone who has eyes and watch him play knew he wasn't the same player and no longer in his prime. It just goes to show how great Duncan was. Duncan was no longer the focus of the offense. He passed the baton to Tony Parker and the offense run through Parker. Likewise, several years later when Parker was old and no longer in his prime, he passed the baton to Leonard who was emerging as a superstar. The Spurs offense then ran through Leonard. Nick Wright is really good at using those things to support his argument but it is very disingenuous on his part. It is very deceptive. It is like if you look at the Stats of Two QBs without watching them play or look at the team they play for and you see one QB with a much better stats you immediately assume that QB is superior. With the 2016 Cavs, great come back but I don't get that? The 2016 Cavs on paper were as good as the Warriors, imo they should not have been down 1-3 in the first place! This Heat team beat a Bucks team that was more occupied with the BLM than playing, and a Celtics team that barely got by a superstarless Raptors squad. 1) 1994 Rockets
    2) 2011 Mavs
    3) 2003 Spurs
Funny enough they were all Texas teams.
People tend to forget the 2003 Spurs but at that point, it was really just Duncan with a VERY young Parker and Ginobili, and an ancient Robinson backing him up. It wasn't really a team that was meant to win a title. But they somehow beat a young talented Suns squad in the first round, then they beat the Shaq-Kobe Lakers. Then they went against the 60-win Mavs with Nash and Dirk. Then they went against a super underrated Nets team with J-Kidd, K Martin, Jefferson. To me, that's a tough matchup almost every round in relation to the talent the Spurs had.

2016 was one of the hardest, 2020 definitely wasn't. Two reasons: 1) all the weird things about the bubble (no home court, out of routine, not seeing your family, etc) make it an unusual championship but they don't count as real disadvantages because EVERYONE had those same disadvantages. His opponents were handicapped in the same ways he was. And 2) Not only were the Heat not one of the best finals teams even before Dragic and Bam got injured, but the other teams the Lakers faced in the playoffs (Blazers, Rockets and Nuggets) were also not strong contenders and not at 100%, all had key players injured or coming back from injury. So I'm sorry, love Bron but that's a ridiculous claim to me.

When Love and Irving made full healthy comebacks for the 2016 finals, Cavs were the heavy favorites by all measures. And, the Heat in Disneyland bubble? The 5th seed Heat who were down two starters in four out of the six games, gimme a dam break.
