- In an interview, the Memphis Grizzly star Ja Morant revealed he wished he would have played in the era in Michael Jordan, as he would have loved a chance to take on the NBA legend one-on-one. He goes on to tell the interviewer that he would have 'cooked' MJ, and while Chris Broussard is a fan of Ja, he breaks down why he's not buying that the young star would have beat Jordan in his prime. Watch as he explains to Nick why Ja would be the one getting 'cooked' in this one-on-one scenario.

When Kobe won MVP he was average 28 points Jordan average that as a rookie
NIck turn in that Basketball Card.. Cant devils advocate Ja's comment. That man made a CrackHead Comment and you trying to support it.. Full Stop NICK.. Ja is not even the best Guard in the League right now, not even close.. Stop it.. He is modern day Steve Frances rn..
Facts
I think JA would win
I love Ja and like Broussard said I love the"Mentality," but I"m not sure he could beat Derrick Rose 1 on 1 when he was in his prime and certainly not in his MVP Season. No way would he have any chance against Jordan...
Now THAT would be the 1 on 1 I wanna see though 🤔

Let him first beat Westbrook then we can even start discussing

MJ in his 3rd season (same as Ja now) averaged 37.1 ppg. Let that sink in.

When fouls were like NFL tackles.
Casuals and bron pole lickers just doesn't understand,
And that was back when Defense was real
Hand checking was made illegal in 1979, zone defense was illegal and you couldn’t double team a player without the ball in Jordans’s era lmao. Nostalgia is crazy man.
Forgive JA; What he meant was: He would be GRILLING HAMBURGERS at half court to serve Michael Jordan after MJ finished serving him a 100 piece to Ja's 10 fries.
Compared to Jordan,Ja couldn't find the kitchen!
That's it!
😆
The only person that Jordan can’t beat one on one is The Lakers Legendary Kobe Bryant. Even Jordan admitted he can’t beat Kobe one on one😆😂😆☝️💪😎🤙👍
Not a chance in the world
Poor Nick Wrong, he has no idea about '84 - '93 MJ (athletic prime). The agility, hangtime, body contortions in the air are still unmatched. There are two great compilations called Michael Jordan "Jelly" that are full of hangtime layups (dunks in traffic are a whole other chapter)
If Jordan sees Ja doing the griddy on him he’ll score 60
At least
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
MJ fans always sound like out of touch teenagers. Ya MJ would score 80,90
That’s hilarious 😂😂😂 very true tho
@@jsgr5382 you sound like you don’t know how good MJ was lol
Ignorance is bliss
Nick just don't know lol
Jordan had extreme leaping ability. The things he did in the air was unbelievable. If Nick would do a little digging, he would clearly see with his own eyes that Jordan clearly could leap higher than VC.
If you didn't get to see MJ play you will never quite understand how great he really was he would literally take over game single handedly and yes this is coming from a Magic Johnson fan Michael Jordan 🐐
FACTS!!!
imagine what Jordan would do in today's world ... we saw how after the Pistons and others beat on him physically his first season or 2 - he hit the weights and checked that - imagine him in today's training environment - nutrition totally in check - with his mentality - downright scary that he could be 20% or more better than he was back then
Exactly. Most of these clowns saying ja would cook jordan only saw Jordan on CZcams.they also forget Jordan was a 9 time nba all defensive team.
Lol aging against major scrubs who you can't name. Yall act like every dude was a legend
I still can’t forgive Jordan for what he did to my SuperSonics 😧😭
It’s not an athlete on the planet that could’ve cooked Jordan at both their primes.
Jordan was like a young Ali - he backed up his game.
I've watched MJ live and in-person against the Knicks and Orlando Magic... he was so much faster than everyone else on the court including a young Penny Hardaway...
That was even MJ's second coming so to speak. Imagine his physical prime in 87-93...
My boy Ja gotta humble himself and get in the weight room. Saying you’d cook the greatest to everyone do it is wild. He couldn’t even cook GP2. Gritty on tho
He gave the Warriors like 40 a night and GP2 was barely playing....that's some good home cooking right there
Nah he didnt say anything bout cooking Bron
Ja do gotta humble himself a lil, bro is bold tho which is good. He really needs to hit the weight room, idk how long he will be able to last at this level only relying on basically god given ability
Nah let the man talk his talk. Only young Kobe was crazy enough to talk ish to MJ and get away with it. But real hoopers respect it. U gotta believe you the best.🤷🏽♂️
Mj wouldn’t be able to guard jah 1on1 , but he could absolutely do nothing with Mj 1 on1, 2, or 3
Part 1: MJ 9 Time All Defense FIRST TEAM
Part 2: MJ backs Ja down to the block, little shimmy, shoulder into his 155 pound frame, fadeaway, easy work.
Part 3: We all Love Ja but c'mon...Stop this convo immediately
In a 1v1 MJ can literally back morant down the entire time and win by merely getting great post looks off. Let alone using the rest of his offensive bag. It's a mismatch in a 5v5 and it's a mismatch in a 1v1.
Amen.
Is iphone 13 better than iphone 6? Amigo, atheletes get better as time goes by. Todays atheltes are far superior to those who played 20 years ago. It is what it is. Ja is iphone 13 and Mike is iphone 6.
Calling ja 155 is crazy
@@elchacal535 No, that’s not necessarily true at all. Stop hating Jordan is goat 🐐 for reason
It's really pretty simple here, Jordan had one of the most unstoppable shots in NBA history, Morant is not defending that shot, also Jordan was one of the best defensive players in NBA history, you do the math

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I remember hearing about some kid named “Mike” Jordan out of North Carolina with astonishing leaping ability. Initial thoughts on MJ was he was a great athlete but had an unclear path to the NBA because he wasn’t a shooter or passer like Magic and Bird. Not long after there was the famous report from the great Bobby Knight that MJ was the best basketball player he’d ever seen. His vertical of 48 inches was well known back then and doubted by many even though fellow team mates said his vert was actually closer to 50 inches. It wasn’t until the dunk contest and MJ’s iconic spread eagle dunk that people believed the guy could fly hence “air Jordan”. Air had a double meaning back then for Nike Air and Air as in Mike could fly.
So his vertical was 49" instead of 48"?
And his team mates were able to notice this 1" difference...amazing.
Jordan had a recorded vertical in college at 48”. In the NBA he was between 46”-48”.
Mike is literally one of the top 10 on ball defenders of all time🤦🏽♂️ i think people forget the man is in the class of few guards to win DPOY
He won a DPOY award. I mean....
Yeah best defender at guard position period 1.5 blocks and 2.5 steals a game didn’t win him defensive player of yr next year he had to go get 1.6 blocks 3.2 steals a game to win it. Imagine Lebron cried about not getting it putting up .8 blocks and 1.9 steals just hilarious the level MJ had to take it to win that award
@@DNiceAtl You obviously don't watch basketball. If you really think steals and blocks should win defensive player of the year why not give steph curry. He had seasons averaging 2.1 steals per game on the best defensive team in the league. Oh wait the eye test says curry's defense isn't even comparable. Not to mention mjs defence is one of the most overated aspects everyone in the 80s and 90s complained about players hand checking. You do realise mj hand check to make defending easier. Mj tryna guard james harden in 2022. He would have foul out after 1st half, he would adapt obviously but its a different era. You can't guard anyone like jordan use to guard them
@@DNiceAtl self admitted horrible defender, magic Johnson had 3.4 steals per game in a season and averaged 1.9 per game on his career compared to a career high 2.9 steals per game and 1.8 steals per game for his career from Gary Payton, but I don’t think anyone who has even heard these guys talked about in basketball circles would ever say magic is a better defender than Gary Payton.
@@jhacebuckley5204 Jordan's game was mental. He would've made ja cry. And you're not implying that ja's defense is just as good as jordan's?
Not even sure he can cook Anthony Edwards but he thinks he can cook Michael Jordan. I love the delusion.
I’m pretty sure that Ja hit a game winning layup on Edwards in the playoffs when he tried to go for the steal so bad commentary bruh lol!
Mj can’t guard older guards, he wasn’t quick enough
We'll see how confident he is this season when the grizzlies go from 2nd last year to 4th or lower this year and continue to fail.
they’ll be whooping that trick in cancun next year getting knocked out by GSW again
You really said a very young effectively rookie team with virtually no vets dripping to the 4th seed is a bad thing?
@@P0k3D0nd3M4cG Well they were the 2nd seed the year be4. So dropping below the 2nd seed the following year, would be considered regression. Especially if they get bounced out the playoffs, be4 reaching the western conf. Finals.

Shannon stan for LeBron, but even he knew better.
Nick Wright is so far up Lebron’s a$$ he would not be able supply us with an unbiased answer
Can you imagine if Ja Morant was in the era of Michael Jordan and he made a challenge like that.
Jordan probably would have scored 60 points and 5 steals on Morant
70 and 10
Fr, Jordan's greatness comes from mental strength
🤣
I dont think Ja could play in the MJ era. That was some physical basketball and Ja is small. If MJ played now, he would average 50.
for sure, ja will be the next dross with those piston bad boys ufc fouls hahahha
There is a great difference between being confident and being cocky. I think I know which one Ja fall under
Yeah disrespecting curry then getting cooked by the chef.
Nick really said, he watched Jordan...on the internet lol. Man's a clown when he taking about MJ
I love how Broussard nearly concedes the vertical point when Nick says “so you’re telling me he was 5 inches higher than Vince?” He follows it up with “I’m just reporting what was reported.” 😂😂😂
I mean Zach Lavine's vertical is 3 inches higher than Vince. And there's some debate on if Jordan's vertical was 46 or 48.
@@im_an_alien196 was that supposed to be a response to what my comment was addressing?

I don’t think that wasn’t his main point. That was the last point he made and it has some truth in it. 5 inches better then Vince Carter is a little out there cause I seen Vince play and boy that man can get up there. Some reports over exaggerate the truth. Especially back then.

Definitely the right attitude for Ja Morant to have, but no he would not have "cooked" MJ.
Outside of that, I think Ja has the right mentality, a little more old-school than some of his contemporaries.
Not a Grizzlies fan by any means, but I am an NBA fan, and I appreciate the heart that Ja plays with.
He hasn’t done anything. It’s not old school to run your mouth when you have zero MVPs, zero 1st team all NBAs, zero titles, zero nothing…and say you can beat the GOAT.
He just comes across as a little dog nipping at the heals of the big dogs.
Being delusional isn't the "right mentality" though. Even Kobe wouldn't have said "I'd cook Jordan", even though he's the player most likely to have been able to beat him in a 1 on 1.
@@Kyptonite As a player in the NBA in 2022 Ja has the right mentality (closer to MJ's than other players in this era). Thinking he can "cook" MJ is not the right mentality. Not sure how folks don't get that is implied in my comments.
@@jacobgordon7998 Because it's disrespectful. To say he's going to cook one of the top 3 players in the history of the game? That's not confidence, that's ego. His basketball skills are top notch and he should show those off. His mouth should stay out of it.

Ja is a small guy who is notoriously bad at defense and MJ is the best scorer of all time, so you can see how that's gonna play out.
Na. He not scoring on mj period.
@@friscogiant4153 I mean in an actual game of course Ja scoring, but MJ dropping 60 on Ja head and Ja gon shoot like 34% for the game and lose 😂
Nick, how many nba players can dunk from the free throw line?
Nick claiming Jordan’s vertical was fake is hilarious
These new players see the highlights while we saw the real thing.they see the clip of Iverson crossing him over and thinking they can do it too.but what they are missing is that MJ went on to win another Ring the same season
For Nick Wright basketball started in 04 when Lebron was drafted
And for MJ and old school
Fans it ended in 1999 lol
“The First Few Dances”…😂
Why is Nick so touched about the 48 inch vert thing it’s not a big deal
Let the kid be confident. I like Chris’s take.
Confidence mixed with delusion
Bro there’s a thin line between confidence and foolishness, ja saying he would cook Jordan is just foolish.
Just the eye test alone should be enough that Jordan could out jump Carter… Carter never dunked from the free throw line and was mainly a 2 foot jumper while Jordan had the athleticism to do both at elite levels
No one can outjumped Carter in his prime not even Jordan.Just give it to Vince and admit the obvious.Jordan was the GOAT already and cant have everything.
@@ubeman1690 read my comment again
Shout out to Wildes for the Rik Smits name drop. Well played sir👍🏽
It's great that he's got that confidence...everyone has a dream...
lol they love it when this kid says it, but if kyrie were to say it it would be viewed as blasphemy and kyrie would be criticized for being delusional
Kyrie barely plays basketball stop caping for millionaires who don't care about you lmao
They don’t love that Ja said it though
Where did you guys get Nick Wright from? He's always on the wrong side of everything.😥😥
Agreed completely with opening arguments
Jordon: Ja is guarding me?
shiiiiii 60 🤣🤣
Ja knew what he was doing cuz ain't no way he truly believes he'd own a MJ
but I love the energy/attitude
Yeah I'm not gonna crush him because he knows exactly what he's doing and I love it. The pathetic thing is how people actually think he would smoke MJ. LIke guys....Ja was joking. MJ is his idol.
@@martyg2333 facts!! some ppl just run with things too much
Realistically I think we all obviously agree that prime Jordan would ruin Ja’s day. But I mean come on. What else was Ja supposed to say? Do people want him to be like “Man Jordan would’ve cooked the mess outta me”. To be one of the best in the league I think you gotta have that kind of confidence in yourself
Same way you’re saying “what’s Ja supposed to say” what are we supposed to say when a player who clearly would get put in a pressure cooker says he’d cook the goat?
No, you could just say “I think it’d be a great matchup and I would have loved the opportunity to do so” or “that would have been a lot of fun, I wish we could make that happen. He is the greatest of all time!”
Ja shouldn't have said that and the question "what else was Ja supposed to say?" is just making excuses for a ridiculous comment. Ja making that claim is like Will Smith saying he thinks he could beat Mike Tyson. Come talk to me when Ja leads his team to a few rings, wins a few MVPs, Finals MVPs and actually can defend.
@@LogainAblar not even close to being a good comparison because Will Smith isn’t an actual boxer. Ja is an actual professional basketball player. It’s not like they asked fake Klay if he could cook Mike. Or even Klay Thompson himself 😂😂😂😂 you’re taking all of this entirely too seriously, trying to turn it into an accomplishments conversation when Ja’s only 22 years old (a month or so away from being 23) and yet you also couldn’t even make a decent analogy for this conversation in the process
@@ThisThatTheThird again, anyone with a brain knows Mike would win a one on one game. My only point was about how confidence in himself. That’s a confidence I feel like a lot of people need. Who cares how it sounds? It’s likely never gonna happen anyways.
Jordan's 59 years old and I'm fairly certain he'd STILL absolutely SMOKE Ja if they played 1 on 1 tomorrow.
“Im not a count the rings guy”.. because he needs to make sure he protects you know who’s legacy.
Today's NBA player are so fragile, one little touch and they get injured for 2 months. JA would get thrown around like a little rag doll going up against MJ.
Jordan's vertical leap is recorded in Guiness and has been for decades. I guess he thinks you can dunk from the foul like with a 30 inch.
MJ doesn't have a 48 vertical keon Johnson has the record for the highest vertical and he did that in 2021 the record before that was 45.5
@@Jaygroova You just don't have your information correct. The NBA does not do an NFL style combine where these things can/have been recorded for decades. The widely known 48 inch from MJ that people have literally known for over 30 years is from the 84 olympics where the players there were measured. Jordan himself said his jump was 48 and other people there verified this. This is the only time we know he was actually recorded.
0:17 that Rob Parker influence from the odd couple rubbing off on chris broussard
And ain’t no way dude got a 5 inch vert advantage or Vince Carter 😂😂😂
Let’s see what would happen if Ja got knocked around physically like the players got knocked around in Jordan’s era.
They would break Ja Jordan pulled his leg and he was done for the season SofT
Or post season that is
Name the legendary rim protectors that Ja is dunking on?
Name the legendary rim protectors that Jordan dunked on?
I actually like Ja's confidence, but he would not "cook" Jordan at the same age. He could definitely cook 60 yr old Jordan but not 22 yr old Jordan.
Yh one, mutombo that’s it!!
@@michaelarmbrister2678 You might want to do some more research then come back when you're better prepared for this conversation.
NICK!!!! THAT'S WHY YOU'RE MY GUY!!!! Dropped a shout out to my favorite player of all time-- Kevin Johnson!!!
Jordan, Duncan, Magic, Kobe, Bird, Olajuwon, Shaq, Kareem, I Thomas, IVERSON, Durant, Pippen, Wade, Dirk, MANU, Curry, and T Mac! My top players ever off the top of my head!
Lebron
The myth that Jordan had a 48 inch vertical is crazy. Y'all will never let these Jordan fairytale stories go anywhere.😂😂😂
It was recorded at the combine
both wrong, his only official measurements are in a scan of a UNC stat sheet where he tested at UNC. Which year and the exact number i can't recall as i didn't save the pdf, but i'm almost certain it was 46.5" max vert and i suppose people assume he increased that with the early Bulls years.
They always exaggerate for mj im used to it ..
@@HailKingCeezer you don't think Michael got stronger once he grew up and went to the NBA? Stupid.
Can you list all of Jordan's accomplishments, off the top of your head?
I always fast forward when nick talking
This guy Nick Wright is trying to show that he is more knowledgeable to those who lived and watched the Jordan era as well as this era. That era is so tough that sometimes manhandling an opponent is not even foul. He should have listen to those Hall of Famers like Chuck, Shaq, Tracy, and others All NBA stars who watched and have played MJ.
