That's the goal LOL. Thanks, the storm barely affected us (we were right on the edge). I feel for those who were in its path. Hope they have a speedy recovery. I know that feeling, having gone through Hurricane Michael in 2018 which destroyed nearly the entire city.

Really satisfying to see if fixed. Don't worry about the high side caps Mike, those caps are constructed differently than the leaky ones and will be just fine to keep in there.

Thanks. I'm so glad there weren't any additional faults. Repair is the only option for this PSU as replacements and pinouts seem impossible to find. Now that I have a pinout there's a chance to put together a modern replacement without reverse-engineering this thing. Those caps looked brand-new!

Before OBD/OBD2/canbus was a thing, all car manufacturers built their own diagnostics protocol. I briefly worked for Snap-on around 2003 and wrote some of the software to interface with Renault and Peugeot. We used lots of laptops like these with diagnostics software like the one you show in the video, I actually still have one of the old 486s with a few tools on it (like comwatch), very cool stuff indeed, I would definitely keep that disc for archival purposes. But fortunately for all home-mechanics we can now use a generic tool to read out all recent cars, error codes and what not, makes life so much easier.

Something to check while you have that working is to see if there's any capacitors up in the lid that need changed, given there is likely a backlight circuit up there plus everything for brightness/contrast. I have a feeling because it's the early 90s there might be surface mount caps up there that need tended to just like the Powerbook 100 series. Can't hurt to check and you'll feel a lot better about it afterwards. I'd also doublecheck the motherboard itself for any dodgy caps, if the PSU is leaking caps, the board may be too.
as far as the hard drive is concerned... if it's a JVC interface, you want to go in and recap that drive too as nearly all JVC drives have surface mount caps on them that WILL leak and WILL go bad. preemptive replacement is recommended. I did it on my one Zenith laptop's drive and it not only helped it spin up better but gave it a substantial increase in throughput performance, probably back to wherever it was when new.

That strange sound that some old hard disk makes, are because the head is returning to the first position to start again. In the old time before you shutdown a computer, you needed to park the head, that was with the command “park”. Otherwise the head stays on the “reading” position on last time it was left, with it, the head being down pressing the platter and if you move it, sure it will scratch the that platter. Sometimes if it was a laptop, can go to some really nasty scratches that you can feel them even with the finger, marking the drive totally unusable.

The 44 pin to m.2 adapters are a life saver.
I was able to bring back many old laptops that needed drives. I even replaced my rtc batteries.
And they run really fast using the m.2 drives.
Does this have a serial port ?
I was able to install Windows 95 on my 286 laptop despite Microsoft telling me it wouldn't work.
    Really cool
But the reason I have these old laptops is for the hardware serial port and DOS to run the Motorola and Kenwood Radios programming software
These old radios can't be read or programmed without a hardware old style serial port and pure DOS
