From filmmaker Steven Spielberg comes the action adventure “Ready Player One,” based on Ernest Cline’s bestseller of the same name, which has become a worldwide phenomenon.
The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.
Spielberg directed the film from a screenplay by Zak Penn and Ernest Cline. The film was produced by Donald De Line, Spielberg, Kristie Macosko Krieger and Dan Farah; with Adam Somner, Daniel Lupi, Chris deFaria and Bruce Berman serving as executive producers.

My senior year English teacher watched this movie back in 2018 and told our class he hated it while others in his family loved it. He said it took him a few days to figure out why he hated it and then it hit him: This movie is about our generation.

They were wrong in the movie about the last bit of trivia so wade could get the egg, they kept saying invisible dot. and when I found the invisible key, first I knew something was up when the room flashed with one or more items in it, I knew a trick to get to the "invisible key" I put everything not nailed down inside a neutral castle, used the magnet and the bridge inside the black castle to walk thru walls until I found the key, I was stumped till I came to the black line barrier and it started flashing. I went thru and I found the programmers name myself, this was in 1980. I was only a teenager. I knew I had found something cool. My sister witnessed it.

For everyone that might not be educated on this. Ready Player One is a book that is completely filled pop culture references. When you say they're "banking off nostalgia" you might be right to an extent. But if you strip away everything from the movie, it's not even the book anymore and it'll just be a loosely based film..
i enjoyed the book well enough, but lets be honest, when you "borrow" every plot device, character, and setting from every other popular franchise, thats kinda cheating. Its completely unoriginal and is just lazy at the end of the day. Why create a brand new sci-fi universe when you can "borrow" from all the other successful ones?

John Stowell Ken Scar I just finished book! Now I'm concerned about the film... I feel like 70% of this was Not in the book. I get leaving stuff out, but what the heck is this race scene that seems to make up half this film? And what's "the rebellion"?!?!
I know i haven't actually read a physical copy but i've listened to the book at least 12 times on audible and the book is written so well. i think they're going to focus on the wrong parts of the book and miss the whole point of the book which is the egg.

For all who want to go watch this movie, I must say it's worth it. It really wasn't that cheesy or "cringy". It's filled with references and nostalgia.
I felt it was the best movie I've seen this year, so far. Sure, sure, some critics will whine about it not being Speilberg's best, that it was too heavy on the pop-culture or that by some objective standard it isn't a 'good movie', meh. I only know I was on the edge of my seat with a stupid grin on my face most f the movie and letting out the occassional uncontrolled laugh of delight at something that surprised me. I ENJOYED it, pretty much every minute of it and that's all that matters to me.
I complete agree this is one of the best movies I've seen in the last 5 years.

This is by far THE greatest movie about Gaming, VR, Pop Culture, Movies, Anime... the list goes on and on! Absolutely one of my favorite movies in the genre and possibly of all time! I mean if this doesn't put a smile on your face than I don't know what will! It's full of action, fantasy, easter eggs, a great story and I think the casting is perfect! The real hero of this movie is the visuals, the graphics... I mean I've seen this movie like a hundred times and every time I catch myself seeing something new in the corner of my eye. It's like the movie of my life and your lives with a ton load of stuff that we grew up with. It just gives me personally that warm and fuzzy feeling in my tum tum! 😉 It most definently deserves its spot in my "Gamerverse", movies about video games and dedicated to gaming itself!

I was really excited for this movie, and I wanted it to be better than Infinity War, but it was decent for me, and wasn’t as good as Infinity War for me. I enjoyed this movie. It was fun. The visuals were stunning. Some of them were better than Infinity War in my opinion. It was a decent, and very fun movie for me.
