    Have a similar noise pipe on my mk5 GTI and also removal. One option was removing the noise pipe section and using an expansion plug to seal off the throttle body pipe. Worked perfect.. should be able to do the same here

    I recommend putting a couple of small sheet metal screws thru the hose where you cut the factory coupling off. The elbow is really short and the hose clamp isn’t quite enough to hold it on the pipe under boost.

    • @Earlysport
      @Earlysport Před 5 měsíci

      This. The pipe with no rib and such short overlap with the hose will be a huge risk of blowing off under boost. Doing dodgy mods like this will only give you and the next owners something you have to fix correctly down the track. Would have been better blocking the smaller hose and keeping the plastic factory section, or get the right aluminium intercooler piping with beads on both ends.

    Dude I have been watching your videos, and really enjoy the crap out of them. I just picked up a 2009 mini cooper s clubman, really like the car, but I am getting a burning oil smell from it. I had a shop put dye in it and they said it was the valve cover I replaced that, still smells but it is less. I noticed that the previous owner welded the oil feed line to the turbo, most likely was leaking and they didn't want to replace it. not sure if you have a video on how to replace the oil line?? but I would like to see something on it, since there are not any on youtube now.

    • @malp6280
      @malp6280 Před 6 lety

      have you tried replacing the cabin filter? if your getting a burning/oil smell check your valve cover gasket, oil filler cap & make sure the turbo oil feed line isn't leaking oil as it could easily be oil dripping onto the exhaust 'burning' hence the smell.. in short check for oil leaks.. "welding an oil line onto the turbo.. wtf why would anyone do that......"
      you could also check underneath the car as apparently these cars suffer from power steering leaking from the high pressure line & the power steering pumps... not sure if later model mini's are effected as bad.. but it doesn't pay to check it out

    Why didn't you put the clamp behind the bit you cut off instead? If you wish to revert back to stock then you could have. Also, did you actually take anything out of the car a part from the pipe intersection? What happens with the pipe that was attatched to the intersection, the bit that goes to the noise maker. Cheers

    Hey mate, so I just did the same mod using a 2'' intercooler pipe that I cut. After a few "spirited" driving sessions the hose blew off from one end of the pipe. The other end was bulged to keep the hose secure, but the end that I cut was smooth so the hose is only held by the clamp. did you have any issues with hose blowing off?

    • @BimmerDude
      @BimmerDude  Před 6 lety +1

      Oh man thats not good. I personally dont have any issues with hoses blowing off. If youll look back @ 9:25 youll see i scuffed up the pipping where the metal would meet the rubber. Also you could #1 create a bead of JB weld on the edge to give the rubber hose something to hang onto #2 old fashion trick is use hair spray on the edges of the pip to help it stick. Chances are have a fair amount of oil blow by passing through your intake track making thins slippery. Be sure to clean all surfaces before reinstalling. I may do a video soo on how to make sure your piping doesnt come off under load. GL!

    • @malp6280
      @malp6280 Před 6 lety +1

      just put some beading around the tube or get a purpose made pipe with beading already on.. this gives much les chance of the hose popping off underload

    Would it be possible to to remove the big black pipe, cut the small hose inlet off for the "noise maker" and plug that hole with a piece of plastic and plastic weld? that way you dont have to cut the pipe, but you delete the thing you want to? Just an idea from watching this. Or, you can add a piece of rubber hose around the big black pipe, and clamp it down around the inlet hole you would cut off. That would seal the hole that is there and no more noise maker.

I did not remove the plastic section that you replaced by cutting a pipe, instead I inserted a smaller diameter pipe and plug the hole with a hole plug that I found from the auto parts store. Why didn't you just pop off the hose that goes to the interior at the pipe you are working on and just cap the T off, plug maker hose cost about $4 and leave the noise maker hose, in case you go to sell it .

      @@BimmerDude You are lucky because there is almost no play between engine and chassis at that point. A simple line with the MIG at the ends of the tube would suffice and would be a better design in the long run.
      Had to do the same on mine in the turbo to intercooler muffler. It pops and leaks when making more than 1.8-2.0 bar

    I know it's convenient to hit up auto zone or what ever auto store is nearby, but these guys here www.siliconeintakes.com/ have an unlimited amount of usable stuff for all air intake and turbo needs that you can make work. The down side is you're waiting for shipping, up side it'll appear more professional.

    • @christophersands6042
      @christophersands6042 Před 3 lety

      That just defeats the purpose of removing the noise maker in the first place. Just capping that outlet will still leave a pocket that air will push into and cause turbulence (you don't want that) what you do want is a smooth path for the air to move through. Because of the turbulence created by "capping" your not making anything better and might as well leave it as is.
