    I had a repair shop remove the resonator and the muffler and install a flowmaster series 10 muffler with a Borla exhaust tip. Sounds great. Cost me $125.

      was that for the parts and labour or just the labour?

    What size was the pipe you ended up using? I'm also looking for some light wheels that won't break the bank if and has suggestions. Thanks

    hey man i see you aren't soft limited when you rev it, i have one set to 4k rpm on my 2013 n18 cooper s. was your limited removed with a tune or does it even come with one at all? pretty annoying being limited to only 4k

      unitgj Thanks! One thing I loved about this car was the fitment I had on it!

    Love the video! Unbiased review and good production quality. I have a 2012 MCS Bayswater edition (beautiful!). I was wondering if you had any tips on cheap easy DIY mods. I've done a resonator delete and just put in a drop in filter. Looking for more simple mods if you care to share. Thanks bro!

      Danwool Quite honestly, not too many easy DIY mods for this car that I know of..! If you haven’t already, I’m a real big fan of a compound, polish, and wax of the whole car as well as a good interior detail. This is especially nice on a new-to-you car. I always find myself enjoying the drive when I can see a crystal clear reflection off the hood! Plus with summer here (at least in California) any reason to be outside with cool water is great!

    Hello,You never did state what size pipe I need to buy??

    • @TylerKun
      @TylerKun  Před 6 lety +1

      Jimmy Lea Sorry! It’s 2 inch diameter pipe!

  • @CathodeRayNipplez
    @CathodeRayNipplez Před 4 lety

    What is inside the OEM resonator/muffler? Why not just push a big hole saw through it?

    • @TylerKun
      @TylerKun  Před 4 lety +1

      Cathode Ray Nipplez The resonator / muffler is a straight through design with a packing material around a canister. If you use a hole saw on it, you’d effectively be making a boost leak / vacuum leak. You would loose all power, be sucking in unfiltered air, and throw engine codes.
      I suppose you could pull out the OEM resonator / muffler and try to break the inside housing to remove the packing material, but I didn’t really notice a substantial difference in sound or performance so it wouldn’t be worth it in my opinion... The piping was just a couple bucks and it would probably be easer in the long run to do that instead of trying to modify the OEM resonator / muffler.

    keep up the videos they great, i got the same 08 r56 here in the UK, you should try dechromeing, could look a lil bit mad yaknow

    • @TylerKun
      @TylerKun  Před 6 lety +1

      That’s awesome man! I’m still not sure if I want to de-chrome it. I love the way it’s sitting right now, so I might play around with plasti dip before I commit to actually painting it!

    • @MrAssassinash
      @MrAssassinash Před 6 lety

      I plasti dipped. I've removed the same muffler. I have AEM induction kit (functional hood scoop). Min logo under the door (puddle lights), Changed the daytime running lights to LED. I changed HPFPump as my idle was dropping, I also have Milltek sportcat/down pipe in garage to fit on Bank holiday weekend. JCW 2009. P.s I use "BimmerDude" for reference and ideas. Thats his youtube name. Im in U.k too Luton.

    • @TylerKun
      @TylerKun  Před 6 lety

      MrAssassinash It seems like you have a pretty similar setup to mine! K&N intake, blow off valve, catless downpipe, secondary cat delete, resonator delete, and muffler replaced with a straight through unit. I’ve also just picked up an Alta Accessport to tune. I’ll probably end up going with a stage 2 California 91 octane tune on it and we’ll just keep going from there!

    • @MrAssassinash
      @MrAssassinash Před 6 lety

      TylerKun Straight through, be interesting to hear. I stil have JCW Muffler and resonator. Only thing changed is to the Sports cat for more air flow pops and bangs and meets emmissions tests. The turbo/intercooler muffler has no place on the car. No idea why it was put there.

  • @DoktrDub
    @DoktrDub Před 4 lety +1

    The thing that made my intake noise and wastegate blow off sound loud is a higher flowing intake l, even a drop in panel filter will be quite loud but a full cold air system even more so, you won’t here it as much just revving at idle, it will be most prominent when under harder acceleration while driving.. I’m guessing the turbo muffler makes it a bit louder but the main purpose is .. by removing that boost pipe resonator your will get a bit less restricted air going to the intercooler from the turbo compressor :)
    This does sound a little underwhelming to be fair, I’ve got an N18 engine and just with a drop in high flow panel filter alone you can really hear it spooling up and blowing off through the wastegate and it sounds awesome, I’m not why yours with a full CAI and a res delete doesn’t sound like this, I’m curious now! Maybe some slight differences with the N14... have you checked your wastegate in your turbo or for boost leaks in general by any chance?

  • @paspitale
    @paspitale Před 6 lety

    That’s a bummer that it didn’t have the impact that you wanted. You saved me from having to do it. I didn’t know about that mod and if it was more of a dramatic sound difference then I would’ve had to do it to my MINI. Have you tried ramps? It might save you from having to jack the car up each time.

    • @TylerKun
      @TylerKun  Před 6 lety

      Paul Spitale I wad pretty dissatisfied. So many others took this mod as if it were the best thing ever..! I have big metal ramps, but both my cars are too low to use them..! But I did build little wooden risers. I drive up on them so I can easily get a jack under now!

    Was thinking of doing this to my R56s but after watching this I’ll probably pass. I already have a few engine bolt-ons and I doubt it will be very noticeable in terms of sound

    • @TylerKun
      @TylerKun  Před 5 lety

      HeathenPhil Even with catless downpipe, Accessport, exhaust, and intake this intercooler muffler delete did not make any difference from what I remember. I’d say it’s best forgotten and left alone!

  •  Před 5 lety

    Great video 👍🏻! What are the other mods on your Mini?

    • @TylerKun
      @TylerKun  Před 5 lety

      Matevž Jenko As of right now, the car is completely stock again. It’s sadly being sold. But at one point it had a catless downpipe, Alta Accessport, K&N intake, custom exhaust, Alta blow off valve, cross competition Coilovers, and the BBS LM wheels. It was a fun and quick little setup!

  • @dralore9
    @dralore9 Před 6 lety

    does he have an aftermarket diverter or is that just more turbo noise from the muffler delete?

    • @TylerKun
      @TylerKun  Před 6 lety

      jake , In this video the car had a turbo intercooler muffler delete, the exhaust muffler was replaced with a straight through unit, and it had a K&N Typoon Intake.
      Most of the “diverter valve” and the turbo noise sound was the intake.

  • @BriggsGuy54
    @BriggsGuy54 Před 5 lety +1

    Sounds like you have a boost leak.

    • @TylerKun
      @TylerKun  Před 5 lety +2

      Briggs Guy There was no boost leaks on this car. You might be hearing the blow off valve? It was venting to atmosphere, so that might be the sound you hear.
      Also, intakes typically raise the induction noise. The K&N Filter I had on it was known for being louder.
